Its been a long time since we´ve played this game, /tg/. Judging by the archives, the last few rounds were dissapointing, but I think we can buck that trend.

Our ancestors may have been natural, non-sentient animals who were given sapience along with cybernetics. Or they might have been bio-engineered from the ground up to fit the machine components. Whatever the case, we owe our existence to a creator, and today our biological and mechanical parts fit together seamlessly.

Before delving further into our history, its time to get into our physical appearance. What do we look like, starting with broad categories.

The lower intelligences have a form to fit their functions with few of the biological parts showing. The sapients however reverse this trend and appear mostly biological with most the the synthetic parts being items to increase intelligience and memory recall. The shaped of the sapients are roughly humanoid, with articulated treads replacing legs. They are capable of sight, but have no biological optical organs.

    Let´s throw these together.

Our original form was something like an earth cephelapod, but nowadays are limbs and sense organs have been replaced with cybernetics, with two limbs for locomotion and others for manipulation. We also have a bunch of other gadgets that burst out of hidden cavities in our bodies. Embryos are cybertized in utero.

Here´s a question: we´ve already established that there are different castes with different levels of intellect. Do they look different as well?

We can produce embroys with varying levels of intelligence. The smart ones get the pattern of cybernetics from the last post, keeping them versatile. Dumber ones are put in robotic shells that are geared toward specific functions. One popular design for heavy labor and combat is a shrimplike biomech with a nonsentient octopus creature bonded to the interior.

How large is the baseline octopus? Let´s use DnD categories for ease of communication.

    >Tiny (cat sized)
    >Small (dog sized)
    >Medium (human sized)
    >Large (bear sized)
    >Huge (elephant sized)
    >Gargantuan (whale sized)

The octopus itself is Small, but after its initial cybernetic upgrades it can be up to Huge. Since the central biomass is cephalopodic and thus without a skeletal system, it would not evolve to be very large at all, especially on land.

The central body is about two feet in diameter. The limbs can be however long, since they are modular cybernetics. We can breath both air and water, and our respiratory implants allow us to survive in many other conditions besides.

How many limbs do we have? This will effect the design of our vehicles as well, since they are designed to sync with our nervous systems.

    Okay, going back to: >>13144154

We´re largely a pacifistic species, fighting only when there´s no other option. In general, our pursuits are scientific, philosophical, and artistic (though our brand of art probably involves a lot of gene splicing). Our culture is homogenous, and strongly unified.

Next question: why were we created?

    >To work
    >To fight
    >For fun
    >As an experiment
    >Other (please specify)

Also, we´re big on trade and material resources.

It's a mystery to us, but our creators originally planned for us to be like a vermin to spread amongst their enemies in preparation for war. To antagonize and soften them with our quick breading. We'd swiftly become a major nuisance and make things more difficult when they were eventually invaded.

Maybe this particular brand of this species was dropped on a planet and forgotten about.

We were one of many attempts at a perfect cyborg species. After our creation, the ones who made us took off. We haven´t found them since.

While we're generally peaceful, we have a score to settle with those fuckers. They fucked with us. It's helped us in the long run, but they had no right to meddle in our affairs. When we find them, we mean to do them harm.

There presence in our world was obvious; though it is not immediately apparent that they created us, we can tell they were highly advanced. Indeed, some of the artifacts left behind by them are what we owe our current level of technology to. We are curious of our origins for sure.

Though its been discussed, we aren´t sure, by and large, if our creators actually created us; our early records are sparce. However, we know that they were on our homeworld early on, and their tech has taught us much. Most of all, we´re curious about them, but a minority of conspiracy theorists are fearful and resentful.

Now. What is our standing in the galaxy? We´ll do this part a little differently. Everyone post a few ideas about how we live, how much space we control, how we interact with other species, and the like. After ten minutes, I will reconcile the three highest posts.

    GO!

We've just had a breakthrough in our technology, and are still making our first steps in a larger cosmos. We've been sending out probes for centuries and now we're sending out colony ships to other solar systems. We're spreading fast, but resources are thin, almost as if someone has been this way before

We recently became FTL capable, and resources around our homeworld are suspiciously low. So we set out in different directions to wander the galaxy, searching for both material wealth, and clues about our origins.

Last question: what are we called?
