Exactly 1 week ago I unleashed the Monostat(tm) system upon the world with ASPERGERS: The Misfittening.World of Retards.

    Dare you face...
    SCHIZO: The Maddening?

    original game thread:

    SCHIZO: The Maddening
    =====================

The Random Medicating is based on my idiotic Monostat(tm) system, as seen in ASPERGERS:The Misfittening. The monostat in this system is General Stability(GS).

This RPG also introduces The Bag of Madness(Bag) - it is used as a more visceral randomizer than simply rolling against a table, although you can make a table if you prefer.

You play a person with an Schizophrenia. This could range from Slightly Odd(10) to Not Allowed Near Sharp Spoons(1)

DISCLAIMER: This RPG is ridiculous. It also does not cover all aspects of schizotypal disorders - because it only has one core stat. You are expected to fill in the gaps yourself.

All skillchecks are of a roll-under type, and will be made using your base General Stability - Madness and/or situational modifiers using 3d6. This can apply to potentially everything you do. Failing these checks will cause you to Freak Out, or at least have a Moment of Madness.
Situational modifiers are applied by the storyteller/referee as they see fit.

    CHARACTER GENERATION:
Generating your Monostat: roll 1d10 and record your General Stability(GC) rating.

    A rough guide to how screwed you are;
1-2 You can't get there from here, alice.
7-9 I wish the government would stop spying on me.
10: Undiagnosed. 50% normal, 50% fighting invisible dildos.

You must now generate your Linked Madness Modifier(LMM). LMM = 10-GS.

    This value has two functions.
it will be the general rating of your medication strength, and it will also be a general skill modifier.

    SKILL CATEGORIES:
These serve as both a tally which resets every in-game day and a general skill modifier.

    These skills have 2 ratings:
the first is fixed at your LMM, the second starts at zero and increases by one every time you Freak Out in that category.

If you need a better definition, look it up. I particularly recommend googling "Magical Thinking" if you don't know exactly what it is.

Constriction & Withdrawal(CW): How you deal with the world

General Oddness(GO): abnormal behavior, like not wearing pants.
Magical Thinking(MT): the link between cause and effect.
Paranoia & Obsession(PO): Ronald McDonald is out to get you.
    Perception(Delusions)(PE): Things only you see,hear,smell,taste...
    >> hurr !sRWmX4fA1c 12/14/10(Tue)10:59 No.13149384
    GENERAL STABILITY CHECKS:
Whenever you wish to do something unusual, or even if you just feel like it, you must make a General Stability check. This can include (but is not limited to) talking to a

stranger, going somewhere strange or doing something that you have never done before, or reading a newspaper. Doing normal, everyday things does not demand a check - not

because you do things in a normal way, but because it's normal to you, and your friends are sort-of used to it by now.

Roll 3d6, and you must get under your general stability - any appropriate skill modifier(s) + situational modifiers. Lets call this value a DC(Difficulty Class) as in recent

D&D versions. If the roll equals the DC, you have an Moment of Madness (how this plays out is up to the player and referee, and should just be slightly silly) but get to roll

again. Your applicable "skills" can be positive or negative modifiers depending on circumstance, although they shall probably generally be a hinderance to everyday life.

A success....is a success! But if you fail you Freak Out.
    >> Anonymous 12/14/10(Tue)11:00 No.13149400
this cannot be as awesome as A:tM, but I'm up for reading another one.
    >> hurr !sRWmX4fA1c 12/14/10(Tue)11:01 No.13149413
    FREAK OUTS:
The nature of the Freak Out is governed by the Bag of Madness.
prior to play each player should prepare 5 slips with a different skill listed on one side and a very general category of item or people on the other. Examples would include

Women, Dogs, Candy, Strangers, and Coins. You may also include one specific choice, for example The Illuminati, or Leonardo di Caprio. These should not be discussed with other

players, and should be handed to the referee, who will inspect them. If they are acceptable, they will be placed in the communal Bag.

When a player Freaks Out, they simply draw 2 items from the bag. the first is the skill it affects, and the second is the basic nature of the abnormal thought.

The strength of the freak out is govererned by the level of failure.

    -PSYCHOTIC BREAK
This occurs if the player missed their check by only 1 point. This would mean the most possible extreme reaction to the sudden mental abberation. It lasts the entire day, until

they get a full night's sleep. For example, if someone has a DC of 8 and rolls 9, then draws Paranoia & Obsession : Women they will most likely severely harm a woman at the

very next opportunity, and keep doing so until they come and take you away (or get some much-needed rest.) In this particular example, you could still make a conscious choice

to avoid the object of your madness, but this is not always possible.
This adds 3 to your tally for that skill.
    >> hurr !sRWmX4fA1c 12/14/10(Tue)11:02 No.13149422
    -FLIP YOUR LID
This happens when when the failure is more than 1, but less than or equal to your LMM. The feeling or idea you have is nearly overwhelming, and it will show it what you say

and/or do, but you still retain some rational control of yourself. No naked murders for you. You may, however, give birth to King Arthur in the form of a really large shit.
This adds 2 to your tally for that skill.

    -ECCENTRICITY
if your margin of failure is more than your LMM, you just become slightly odder. How that plays out is up to you. This is a roleplaying game, remember?
This result adds 1 to your tally for that skill.
    >> hurr !sRWmX4fA1c 12/14/10(Tue)11:03 No.13149433
    MEDICATION CHECKS:
At the start of each in-game day, you must make a Medication Check to see if you think those pills are poison or not.

The DC for this check is LMM+(number of days you have skipped)+2. If you pass, you decide to take your antipsychotics. All tallies are reset to zero.

If you fail, they stay the same.

But if you fail by more than your LMM, you have are on a antipsychotics comedown. Add your LMM to each tally.
That's right, you just got worse.

    EXAMPLE OF PLAY:
Dave(GS7) is hanging out with his weird cousin Timothy, who just keeps going on about trains. He's having a relatively normal day, and after a couple of hours Dave suggests

they get Pizza as he's starting to get hungry. Timothy's too busy suffering from autism to object, so Dave calls the local pizzeria for a delivery. he makes a GS check (7) and

has only racked up 2 Constriction & Withdrawal points today, and the referee gives him a +10 for this being a pretty damn easy task.
    (GS)3-(CW)2+(situational)10 =(DC)11

    ROLLED 5, 5, 3 = 13 FAILURE BY 2
Well, at least it's not a psychotic break.
    The Bag reveals:
General Oddness/Jalapeno Peppers. That's +2 to that skill from now on, and time for some spicy hijinks.

Dave orders 4 deep-pan pizzas, with extra double Jalapenos. He complains to the delivery boy that they've skimped on the peppers and doesn't give a tip.

Shortly afterwards, Timothy throws a Tantrum.
Serves him right for bringing an Aspergers:The Misfittening character to a game of Schizo.
    >> hurr !sRWmX4fA1c 12/14/10(Tue)11:06 No.13149459
    EXAMPLE ADVENTURE HOOKS:
Staging a jailbreak from Shady Acres Sanitarium.
Going out to a bar with your college buddies.
Hell, any everyday task will be nearly impossible. take your pick.

    THE END.
anyone have feedback, or need clarifications? The rules system for this one is a bit more counter-intuitive, but I feel that's appropriate for a game about going bat-shit insane. Next project(if I can be bothered) is "Vampire: The Masquerade" Players: The Self-Indulgent Nonsensing

Thanks, I nearly didn't post this, despite a whole 40 minutes of work - Despite /tg/ being full of schizotypal personalities, I think there's probably not enough self-diagnosed ones for this to really hit home.

Seriously, /tg/ players are often chock-full of Magical Thinking.

I promise. Timothy will feature in every edition.

Incidentally, despite the system being called Monostat, it's modular and can be used in a mix-and-match fashion to run as many of them as you want at the same time. If I actually make enough of these, I might actually make a physical challenges module.

I'd probably call it something like Wheezy:The Fattening.

Oh yes, definitely. the maximum of 3 is not the skill modifier, it's how much you ADD to that skill from now on. that tally just keeps on climing.

Example: you have a Magical Thinking rating of 1, and have a psychotic break in that category. MT is now 4, and any more freak-outs in that category just keep adding to that modifier.

Until it (potentially) resets at the start of the next game-day anyway.
