I had a strange dream last night. I was sitting in a coffee shop listening to a lamia tell me about all the problems she had to deal with in everyday life. Things like automatic doors, stairs, narrow hallways. She said she couldn't ride in most cars let alone drive them, and even crowded rooms were difficult to move around.

She seemed really depressed by it, I don't know. It was weird. Just felt like sharing that /tg/.

Sir, you have inspired writefaggotry. I shall commence thusly.

We'd been dating for a month now. I was still surprised. Made me realize how most of my previous dates had been about getting into a vagina. This time, though, we'd just burn hours talking about everything our minds settled on.

You have to be open-minded to date a lamia in the first place, after all.

Today we met at a coffee shop, twelve sharp. Not Starbucks, even though one was only a ten minute drive from my apartment - Maureen liked the cozier, littler cafes run by smiling women with a few lines on their faces, the kind with an interior that looked like a wood cabin, or at least, someone trying to imitate one. Wanted to support the local efforts, she claimed. Pretentious bullshit, but she was my girl so I let it slide. She didn't bitch when I played World of Warcraft while chatting with her on Skype, so it was fair, I thought.

Today she had a problem with moving around.

"You don't get what it's like to slither," she said, leaning on the table with her elbows. A table near the window like she told me to get. "You have to drag your whole body everywhere. It's like making a scene everywhere I go. At least that fish guy at the counter doesn't take up an entire room whenever he's moving from point A to point B."

"I don't have a problem with you slithering," I said.

"Most of the time I don't either, but you know me. I keep to myself. It's bad enough I get stares." Absentmindedly, she ran a hand down her scaly side. "It's just that...sometimes it feels like this world wasn't built for me. You know?"

I rested my hand over her other hand lying on the table. Her skin was always cold - guess that was the reptile part of her acting up. But it was the thought I cared about. "I kind of do, believe it or not. Humans can feel left out even though we're all basically the same. Then again...most of us don't have to deal with what you have to go through."

"I just think something's wrong when I have to wait for my coworker to keep the door open for me when I get to work," Maureen said, picking up her cappuccino. "And I really hate bumming rides from you just to get there. You know I'd drive there myself, but I don't have any feet, they don't have any cars for people with snake legs." She took a slurp that was too noisy for my tastes. "I hate riding in the back of the truck. It's too cold."

Maureen was doing a fantastic job making me feel like an asshole. "I'm sorry. If I had known we'd be hooking up, I would've bought a normal car."

She sighed. "No, don't apologize. It's not your fault. I need to quit whining and just deal with it." Her gaze trailed to the window. Outside, cars streaked down the road like bullets of shiny color. "This is my home now. I just...have to make do with what I've got."

I squeezed her hand. "Hey...I know it sucks. But you'll make it. And you got me now. If you're stuck here, at least I'm gonna do everything I can to make it suck less. All right?"

Maureen smiled. "Thanks. I shouldn't be complaining when I've got someone like you."

"Hey, come on. In this world, you're expected to complain a little bit. That's just how it works."

"Okay," she said. Her hand escaped mine and she poked me square in a soft part of my chest. "I'll start complaining about your dirty underwear."

I chuckled. "Hey, I wash those."

"When it's most convienent for you, you mean."

She had a point, but I inexplicably decided to concede the issue. We both smiled and tipped our cups against each other, our hands meeting again while we sat there and listened to the light, local jazz.

I had a dream that there were zombies everywhere and one broke into my house. I reached for my sword but I left it in another room. I reached for my shotgun, but it was in another room. I reached for my WASR, and shot the zombie. Shot went right through it, no damage. Exhausted the entire magazine. So I rushed the zombie, intent on bashing it in the face. While bashing it, suddenly my WASR transformed into an AR15, and pig disgusting synthetic stock began warping. I finally curbstomped its head, and tossed away the AR. I look to my left, and my father is there, sitting in an armchair. He says, "See...shoulda used a Remington."

And then I woke up. The end.

I had a dream that I was a red spy on CP_Well, in the blue base on the third story of that little foyer area between their second and first points, and I look down from there and I see a loli Cultist-chan looking up at me. Jumping down casually the scenery turns suddenly to night time on the side of a major highway, while she suddenly turns into a cat, begins walking away, turns around to hiss at me and then bolts off. I begin chasing after her, before a black bear cub runs out of some near by brush and I think "Oh shit, a bear!", before leaping over it as it goes by, before it turns around and I cannot remember anything else.

I don't even fucking like Cultist. Or bears.

I'd imagine that a Lamia-adjusted car wouldn't have a driver's seat proper- more of a bucket area to curl up in. Rather than regular seatbelts, there would be two loops that you place the body between and crossing each other in an X-pattern, then buckling on either side of the bucket. Acceleration/brakes/etc. are the easiest- just use the adjustments we make for paraplegics nowadays. A lamiacar would have to be larger- no compacts for them.

Ranting at this point, bouncing ideas off of myself. Love thinking up pointless shit like this.

/tg/ had a modern mythic creatures setting going a while back.

Basically when we first split the atom with the original nuclear test back during WWII, it broke the barrier between our world and theirs. The war ended as people were forced to adjust to having orcs, elves, lamias, centaurs, etc showing up in their respective countries.

They adjusted, and campaigned for civil rights along with Martin Luther King Jr and company in the 60s and 70s, dwarves had beard-mohawks in the 80s punk scene, and so on and so forth.

Fast forward to the present, and we have Lamia pizza delivery girls.

Since snakes don't have any external genitalia, is there any point to Lamias wearing any kind of below-the-waist covering? Since they don't have legs, are skirts fashionable for lamias of both genders? Perhaps in addition to traditional jewelery, bands around the lower waist are popular. Half-bands of a sort so they don't get ruined when slithering.

"Around noon." At least Jane had the sense to chew quietly. Though, the way her face and nose scrunched, I wouldn't be surprised if she was secretly half-pig. "Don't tell her I told you, though. She'll try to constrict me again."

After I took Maureen back to the apartment, I cooked dinner - a medium rare ribeye in one pan and a seared ribeye in the other. She liked raw meat but, thankfully, she was trying new ways to eat that didn't involve killing a deer and eating it right there in the woods. Until I met her, I thought I was the biggest fan of whipped cream on the entire planet, but you'd give Maureen a few tubs of Cool Whip and she was the happiest girl you'd ever see.

Maureen sat curled up in front of the patio door, hands folded, warming herself in the sunlight. I also had the heater on - sun wouldn't help her much in a cold apartment. It was just a habit, she claimed - in the cold months back in her world, she'd normally just find a warm rock and rest on it and shut her body down. But this was Chicago. Slowing down wasn't an option anymore.

    "How was work?" I ventured.

"It was okay," she said. She didn't turn her head to look at me but she didn't sound like something was on her mind. "All the houses I went to today had more than one dog. That usually doesn't happen."

Might as well bring it out into the open. "Something else happened today, didn't it?"

Maureen whirled around. "Who told you?"

    "Jane."

"I knew she wouldn't be able to keep her mouth shut."

I'd imagine that they evolved from the ancestors of snakes, losing their hindlimbs but keeping their forelimbs. They eventually began to prey on humans, developing a front of the body that looks like a human above the torso, hiding in the bushes, then constricting the bastard when they got close. They developed speech capabilities and human-level intelligence just around when humans did. Their existence was part of the reason for the domestication of dogs- dogs could immediately smell the difference between a lamia hiding their lower body in a bush pretending to be hurt, and an actual injured human.

Anatomically, their lungs and heart are at the bottom of the human part of the body- where our intestines are. All the digestive shit and those other organs are in the snake part. They're reptiles, so they're cold-blooded.

In modern days they've stopped the whole "eating humans" thing, and instead go for monkeys, dogs, or goats. Like pythons, they have a slow metabolism, not needing to eat anywhere from a week to months between meals. Yes their jaws detach. It's considered very rude for a lamia to eat in public.

Maureen sighed and rose. Her body uncoiled, and when it hit my carpet, it shifted back and forth, pushing her upper body up until she was about eye-level. "Okay. Here's what happened." She slid across the floor and leaned her arms on the counter. "I go up the stairs and ring the doorbell. The family who lives there opens the door, and when the father sees me, he just flips. He comes up and starts yelling about how freaks like me shouldn't be walking around on his driveway and touching his food. I told him I was sorry, but he said that if he knew they would be sending someone like me over, they wouldn't have bothered to get pizza."

"He sounds like a flaming jackass." I used the pause to flip the steaks.

"Well, yeah," Maureen said. "But I still had to give him the pizza. I tried to do that, but he just pushed it away and slammed the door, so I left it on the step."

"So you gave an asshole free pizza for being an asshole, basically," I said.

"Well, what was I supposed to do?" Maureen asked. "He looked like he was going to call the cops or get a shotgun. I'll take it out of my check. It's not worth dying over."

The trachea (4) connects the larynx to the lungs. It is the dragon’s conduit for respiration and also for its breath weapon.
A dragon’s vast lungs (5) fill much of its chest cavity. The lung structure resembles that of an avian, which can extract oxygen both on inhalation and exhalation. In addition to being the organs for respiration, a dragon’s breath weapon is generated in its lungs from secretions produced by the draconis fundamentum (see below).
The draconis fundamentum (7) is a gland possessed only by true dragons. Attached to the heart, it is the centre of elemental activity inside the dragon’s body. All blood flowing from the heart passes through this organ before going to the body. The draconis fundamentum charges the lungs with power for a dragon’s breath weapon and also plays a major role in the dragon’s highly efficient metabolism, which converts
the vast majority of whatever the creature consumes into usable energy. Blood vessels, nerves, and ducts run directly from the draconis fundamentum to the dragon’s flight muscles, charging them with enormous energy, and also to the lungs and the gizzard. A dragon digests its food through a combination of powerful muscular action and elemental force. The interior of the gizzard(8) is lined with bony plates that grind up chunks of food, and the entire organ is charged with the same elemental energy that the dragon uses for its breath weapon.

That's not an avian lung. Avian lungs have air sacs that capture air to ensure constant airflow in a single direction, such that no oxygen-poor air can remain in the lungs or mix with fresh, fully-oxygenated air. That there's just a regular lung.

Hemipenes, not true penises. A penis has a fully-enclosed urethra. Hemipenes are not fully-enclosed, instead having a seminal groove down which semen flows.

Also, they don't look very nice, but if you can get over the whole snake thing then you can probably get over the snake genitalia thing just as easily.

When June rolled around, I took Maureen to the beach. About thirty minutes out. At least now it was warm and she could have fun riding in the back of the truck instead of like in December when she was freezing her scales off. She'd been to the beach a few times before and it didn't hold her interest much, but she always wanted to spend time with me, so when I decided to get some surfing done, she borrowed half of a two-piece from Jane and saddled up.

I parked the truck in a lot near a waterfront restaurant, and helped Maureen out the back. "Can you swim?"

"Not that well," Maureen said. "I was just going to stay on shore anyway." She coiled down from the hot bed and slinked onto the pavement. "Ow." She wiggled the hand she laid on the truck to keep balance - the hot metal must've singed it.

"Sorry about that," I said. "I'll put a blanket back here before we leave."

We walked towards the shoreline. Maureen drew a path in the sand behind her as she slithered, shallow and curved. When I took her hand in mine, I noticed the yellow sash wrapped around her hips. "Why are you wearing that?"

    "Wearing what?"

"The sash. You've got nothing to hide."

What's so unrealistic about that? There's a species of fungi called slime molds that are basically slimes until they turn into mushroom to release spores they make.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkVhLJLG7ug&feature=related

Slime molds have also been known to solve labyrinths!

Finally, fungi are genetically more like animals than plants, as seen on the wiki:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fungus

"even though genetic studies have shown that fungi are more closely related to animals than to plants."

"It looks good on my hips," Maureen said.

"You don't have hips," I said.

"I do too!" She ran her hands over her waist and down the sash. "Look, what are these?"

"They're not hips," I said. "Not the kind of hips I'm thinking of. I just think it's weird you should be wearing that when you don't even have a complete two-piece on."

"Well, I think it fits everything else," Maureen said. And I guess the colors matched or something. "And I like how it looks on me. That's good enough."

I shrugged. "It's your clothing. Just don't call them hips. Call them your sides or something."

"Does it matter what they're called?. Hips, sides, waist, lower body, tail, rattle..."

I checked the end of her body. If she was a rattlesnake, I would've been a lot more careful around her. "You don't have a rattle."

Maureen shot me a squinted glare. "Shouldn't you be worrying about your perfect wave or something?"
