Lawful persecution of rules is something I deeply approve of. Janitor has my support on that.

But today, Touhoufag got banned from /tg/ for posting a thread about D&D that kept on being deleted by the janitor for no reason.

Personal vendettas and "LOL ZO RANDUMS" deletes and ban aren't lawful persecution of the rules. It oppressive abuse of power and it should be denounced as it is.

Please, do not delete this thread. This affects /tg/ and is very related. You may not be aware, but these relentless purges are unhealthy for /tg/. I'm not entering in content. Its worth is arguable and it has their detractors and supporters. /tg/ crawls during those purges. Quality content slows down, the threads becomes unstable and derailed.

It also sets a really bad precedent.

If we start deleting and banning people because of our personal views and vendettas, what is preventing us to do it again? What is preventing it from deleting character images threads, because they're just non-/tg/ images with little to no content. Or every single 40k thread. Or just those from some users.

That is a bad path. A true highway to hell paved with the bones of the righteous dead.

They came first for the trolls,
    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a troll.

Then they came for the Touhoufags,
    and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Touhoufag.

Then they came for the related content,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a fan of related content

    Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

    >> Anonymous 12/16/10(Thu)09:33 No.13172562
I'm almost always on the pro-Janitor side of these debates.

But today, I am with the OP. The instant you say "posting tohou should be a bannable offense because I don't like tohou", you pave the way for the banning of personal preferences rather than actual rules violations. And Tohoufag violated no rules. So where do we draw the line? Non-Tohou anime images become banned, then non-anime Japanese artwork becomes banned, then Japanese-themed characters like samurai and monks become banned, then a Western-themed character gets banned because it was loosely inspired by a Japanese character, etc.

Moderation should be there to keep out porn and /b/-shit, not the mod's personal pet peeves.

Effectively, it was one (or two) threads up at all times. One thread up for ten minutes, as opposed to a thread that was only there for a few moments. More people got the link, more people read the post.

It's no different from the way any real world authority works, really. Doesn't matter if you didn't do anything wrong originally. The cops will move along on their own. The LAST thing you do is start being utterly obnoxious to them. Then they'll MAKE SURE there is a problem. The way you handle it is letting the cop feel they're in control by letting them bark a few useless words at you. Then start back up once they're gone.

Causing trouble is just giving them the excuse they need to stuff you into the paddy wagon. They can't do anything otherwise.

Touhou WOULD have had a good case if he hadn't decided to throw a fit. He could have appealed to the HIGHEST AUTHORITY and asked for the mods to back off the zealousness. However, spamming material in defiance IS against the rules.

As someone else said. These guys are essentially all powerful. You have to get change through more subtly than throwing your alphabet blocks around in anger.

If that were the case he'd have shut down /rs/ a long time ago.

moots name is Christopher Poole, spend some time on google to get details on where he lives and go there. punch him until he tells you the passwords and shit, you are now the god of 4chan.

Confirmed for newfag that was only here for the fall.
    >> Anonymous 12/16/10(Thu)09:56 No.13172750
Then why didn't they delete the other thread?

WHat? Isn't half of /tg/ about sharing copyrighted materials?

Agree. Any overzealous actions are overshadowed by the massive improvement to /tg/ after it got cleaned up.

Exactly. Do you want to make a fuss and satisfy your own sense of entitlement, or do you want to do things properly?

This is not about the ban, this is about the Janitor's deletion of /tg/ content based on personal vendetta.

Still quest only final destination. Picture related.
But they allow loli and cub porn now so Touhou fits right in.

Then email moot already. That's the proper way to do things, not get in a huff and making a scene.

    >massive improvement to /tg/

Asserting things doesn't make them fact. I'd say there was a sharp decline in the state of the board after the janitors showed up.

The Janitor have the right to ban anyone he please.

If you don't like it, don't post, or get out. Because right now, thanks to your ''crusade'' we other ''law abiding citizens'' are getting shit for your spamming.
    >> Anonymous 12/16/10(Thu)09:59 No.13172784
Wow, it went worse than I expected.

That's how /tg/ got rid of the last few Janitors.
    >> Anonymous 12/16/10(Thu)09:59 No.13172786
Oh, there's pirated shit everywhere, sure. But that doesn't mean it's legal. Touhoufag's post actually breaks global rule 1. I don't think mods are going to go out of their way to make 4chan a piracy free zone but they might make a token effort to get rid of threads with pirated Wizards content. Especially if Wizards have threatened moot about it and considering the history of Touhoufag and the 4E leaks, it wouldn't surprise me if they had.
    >> Anonymous 12/16/10(Thu)09:59 No.13172787

People ARE emailing him. But you don't just write to pollies if you have a policy issue, you talk to others and give the cause momentum, and get the fence sitters and the convinced but apathetic motivation.

    Just back from work...

Here, here. As much as I don't like Touhou shite, Touhoufag still - almost ALWAYS - presents constructive content to the threads he posts in. As much as I hate 4e (no flaming), as much as I dislike chara build threads, he's still a productive and regularly contributive member of this board.

Sorry if I missed the rest of the thread, just read first post and went from there.

    Janitors can request bans.
    Mods execute them.
A non-board specific mod won't bother checking if content is appropriate and will most likely trust the janitor on his word.
Result is the same as if the Janitor had banned him himself.
