Was wondering, Lego Quest op (or anyone who asked before or found it in an archive) other then having a bottomless supply of minifigs and bits, What is the secret to lego close-up 'action' shots?

    >well of course, but that just goes without saying.

    >What is the secret to lego close-up 'action' shots?

The 'digital macro' mode is essential for taking really close-up shots; any other mode is too blurry from three inches away.

Even then, it takes a lot of focusing and re-focusing, since the camera is sooooo picky about what miniscule area it brings into focus: "No, goddammit, stop focusing on his shoulder, focus on the faaaaaace!"

Some people in another quest thread told me I should be using these other settings too. Something about ISO. Pretty sure I switched to what they said.

Some of the photos, like the chase seen and that last blast the bad guy did, have a blurriness to them that is completely appropriate and dynamic, almost like motion blur but not quite. Did you do that on purpose?

Also, all these photos have a yellowish tint to them. It looks kinda cool, but it also looks like your white balance might be off. Is that also on purpose? Just curious about your methods.

And thanks for the quest. Amazing story, man.

    And because
asked about it, here's the cheap and easy way to take shots of airborne objects.

Here we see Tratot floating mysteriously in mid-air...

As much as I'd like to take credit for setting it up like that, it's just lucky shots that occasionally end up looking cool.

    >all these photos have a yellowish tint to them. It looks kinda cool, but it also looks like your white balance might be off.

Yeahhhhh.... I tried tweaking it, but between my terrible light situation (now more terrible because I broke a lamp last night ><) and my general ineptness for all things photographical, I can't get rid of it. Sometimes I can get rid of it in Photoshop, but I'm usually in a hurry to get pictures up asap.

    >> Lego Quest !rtcFUbR5dY 12/19/10(Sun)17:25 No.13218778
Oh, uh... I thought the first version's file size was a lot bigger because of all the extra data my camera puts on pictures... but then I see that it's only a couple of kb smaller...

These are the kinds of bad decisions I make when I've only had four hours' sleep.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)17:39 No.13218950
Perhaps you should not sleep at all and instead Lego Quest 24/7.

More seriously, how do you take your pictures and upload them? You do a lot of them, and the channels I'm used to using take forever to get pictures up. Is it just camera -> wire -> upload over and over?

If it is, you upload commendably fast.
    >> Lego Quest !rtcFUbR5dY 12/19/10(Sun)21:05 No.13220969
    >Perhaps you should not sleep at all and instead Lego Quest 24/7.

That would be pretty sweet. I'm probably going to be semi-unemployed for the next few months, so expect more weekend LQs.

    >Is it just camera -> wire -> upload over and over?

Yeah, pretty much. Sometimes I use Photoshop to make possible some things that I can't do with just the camera. For instance, LQ pics are usually 800x600, but I take them all in 1600x1200, then shrink them. Sometimes, though, when I want an extreme close-up of something, I'll copy-paste the 1600x1200 image onto a blank 800x600 canvas (i.e. the big image is cropped to a canvas that only fits the middle one-fourth of it). This lets me have an extreme closeup and keep the level of detail that I want.

This picture, for example, was made using that technique.
