I got nothing, but we could always use more Eversor threads.

They're my favorite part of 40k, I just wish they'd make a game where you play one and cut the fuck out of people.

Or an Officio Assassinorum game, where you play all 4 major assassins. Vindicare would be like Sniper Elite, Callidus would be Splinter Cell w/ shapeshifting abilities, Eversor would be a gory hack and slash, and Culexus...well I dunno what they do exactly.

Ah well, a man can dream.

I don't doubt it. However, it will move the industry's attentions to space marines for a while, and you can't really hope for an Assassin game while the Marines get all the spotlights. Look at /tg/, everyone wants a 40k game that's not marine-focused.

Oh man, can you imagine the Vindicare missions?

Like that fluff story about a Vindicare assassin dropping out of a plane a few kilometer up, with parachute, fighterplanes detect him, and ruin his parachute, he snipes the fighterplanes dead, takes aim with a failing parachute, takes the shot on the planetary governor who needed a shot in the head, and he scores.

Forgot how he survived the fall, but he did survive.

    Multiplayer would be easy too.

Since XP and Leveling is all the rage now-a-days, assign points to 4 schools of play.

The Multiplayer (competitive) would be Temple training, aka fighting to the death. Co-op would be several assassins working together in their own campaign (or just the SP with Co-op)

Oh, and you get a quirky Magos who upgrades your gear throughout the game, and unlocks the secrets of the machine spirits you already have as you progress.

Exactly, each class would have different abilities.

Eversor can obviously absorb the most damage, and can break shit.

Vindicare has OMGWTFHAX sniping skills, and can climb up to higher ground.

Culexus can have fun with the physics engine and one-shot psykers. (Who should be a huge threat)

Callidus can disguise themselves as the enemy and do covert assassinations.

    >everyone wants a 40k that's not marine-focused.

It's sad because the setting has so much potential, and so much room to create some really interesting ideas, and yet all I ever see out of it is HURR GIANT MUSCLEDUDES WEARING HALF A TRUCK, SO AWESOME AND MANLY.

The power-armored space marine concept hasn't been unique to 40k for a long time. Halo has it. Gears of War has it. Doom has it. Starcraft has it. And while 40k may arguably have been the "original", it's simply not interesting anymore. 40k has so many characters that are much more interesting and much less overused, yet we never get to see them. I say, leave the powerarmored space marine to the newcomers like Halo and Gears of War, and let 40k give us things that only 40k can give. Things like psychotic religious fanatic warrior-women who set everything on fire yet are seen by the rest of humanity as beacons of light and hope. Things like shapeshifting assassins. Things like Terminator-ish robots except they were once living beings and still retain a fraction of their former souls. Things like space pirates that actually behave like pirates--hit, steal, and run--rather than the organized military pirates-in-name-only that we see in Metroid.

40k does not need Space Marines; in fact, they are arguably the LEAST interesting things in the setting.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:00 No.13215821
They could also have a "Final Stand" mode or something a la Horde mode on Gears.

1 Assassin per player. Enemies come in waves. To prevent the Callidus from trolling the players and not doing anything and just hiding, some waves have psykers which will fuck the Callidus over and are immune to stealth trickery, making every other opponent know she's an assassin. It balances out since she can take on the big guys in 1 kill (preferably an animation so the others can get kills)

But anon! You ask. How do you balance the killing power of an Eversor with the rest? Simple. Everyone can bleed out and get picked back up, except the Eversor. When he hits 0, he explodes, no chance of pick up.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:01 No.13215829

An assasins game would be fuckyear awesome.

I'm manually thinking of a L4D map (the one where you get to the tank) but instead of regular dudes and zombies we have assassins and chaos up this bitch.

But that game would be easy to break with 4 evesors running around at full speed going "LOLWTFKEKEKEKEK" and just urinationg on everything.
Or 4 culexus assassins since they are blanks and as such scare the living fuck out of anything with psychic abilities and can even cause daemons to destabilize (not to mention that they are invisible to daemons)
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:02 No.13215832
Spy Mask: HUD which can see through walls and what not, as well as display whether the target has a forcefield etc. Which ties in with his special ammo.

Special Ammo: Shieldbreaker busts a target's forcefield, Turbo-penetrator can punch through cover and nail targets, Hellfire does heaps of damage.

Stealth Suit: Some kind of cloaking device? Codex Witchhunters doesn't really explain what it is exactly.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:02 No.13215833
So Eversor is the best at killing mooks and breaking shit, but Callidus can incapaciate enemies with her neural shredder and use the C'tan Phase Sword to line up Shadow of the Colossus style kills on wave bosses? I can dig it.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:04 No.13215844
It's not a cloaking device, more like an adaptive camo suit that doesn't ping on enemy sensors. You don't literally turn invisible, it's just a massive asset to stealth.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:05 No.13215858
That's the impression I got, but for gameplay purposes it might be easier to just make it a cloaking device.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:06 No.13215862
Indeed. Vindicare sits back and BOOM HEADSHOTS all day, which can be fun, then freak out when they get close.

Add in daemons in several waves and include aforementioned psykers, and Culexus shines during those, ripping through those tough enemies like tissue paper, and is able to slowly drain the life of groups of enemies that aren't psychically adept. (Aka groups of traitor guard or something)
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:06 No.13215864

I don't know about the Eversor exploding, because one stupid mistake and you're out for potentially a very long time, but there I think are other ways to balance it. Eversor should be the slowest and least agile, Vindicare could use explosive shot, etc.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:08 No.13215873
Nah, Eversors are freaking ninjas, all the assassins are.

Balance it out by allowing respawns each wave, again like Gears. It allows the Eversor to go batshit, but still have to be careful not to die.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:09 No.13215886
Culexus and Vindicare both have good damage single shot weapons as well, i.e. the Exitus Pistol and the Culexus' nega-blasts. Vindicare wants to line up massive damage rifle shots though, whereas the Culexus gets huge damage bonuses to psykers and daemons. The life drain thing sounds good, he could also have a push type power where he forces everything back by unleashing his antipsychic aura.

Eversor has the only real rapidfire weapon with his bolt pistol, and he can poison with the needler too as an alt-fire mode. Maybe the Culexus could get a boost to firing speed when near psykers.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:10 No.13215893

The Callidus would be the fastest, even amoung the assasins. Unfortunelty she can't do squat beyond flamer range ad is the most fragile.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:12 No.13215906
But she should make up for it with "Holy-crap-how-did-she-do-that-oh-shit-she's-killing-Steve" acrobatics.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:12 No.13215908
In TT the evesor is the fastest.
Even in fluff it's the fastest due to massive implants and drugs.

Speed range is: Vindicare > Culexus > Callidus > Evesor
Strenght (melee): Vindicare > Culexus > Callidus > Evesor

But then the evesor only has a lousy gun where vindicare has a fuckawesome sniper.
They are made for different stuff but the evesor is the one best equiped for high speed and kool aiding through walls
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:12 No.13215916
Eversor also has the only real "frontline combat" melee ability.

It would be pretty reasonable to give him lots of very fast medium damage attacks from the powerweapon, and a slow attack that does tons of damage to everything from the neuro-gauntlet. Could just make the latter a charge attack from holding down the melee button, like he lines up a heavy punch.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:19 No.13215956
Well, I mean that in the sense of he's going to be hacking through hordes like they were made of bubbles, but the big bads would take a little more, as opposed to say a Callidus Assassin's one hit kill animation, were she to get behind the foe.
    >> Alpharius 12/19/10(Sun)11:19 No.13215958
This... this is actually a really good idea. I mean, shit, you get some money behind this game and it'd be gold.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:20 No.13215961
    That'd work.

Culexus would be something like .. A shotgun, I guess, with his brain blasts. Or like a space anti-wizard demoman.

Callidus.. Midranger? Strong but slow-to-charge melee, solid pistol skills-- can contribute to horde killing at range but best at gutting big ones.

    Vindicare already discussed.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:23 No.13215975
Yeah, make the Culexus crowd control with a fear effect, ability to 'push' normal souls out of his aura and a shotgun like speculum blast that can hit more than one target.

Callidus has the Neural Shredder which can stun or kill in a flame radius, and can one-hit stuff she can get behind. Regular melee attack is fast and weak, but ignores armour. Probably needs a button to allow special dodges.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:25 No.13215992
Well they're all Assassins with Temple Training, the dodge button could be a standard feature for all characters.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:25 No.13215993
    That actually works really well.

So Callidus and Vindicare would both be great at eliminating big things while Eversor and Culexus handle crowds in different ways.

I like it. Each would handle things sufficiently differently to be interesting and still contribute to the whole. Culexus Fearing a pack for the Eversor to mulch, for example, while the Vindicare distracts the Giant Mutant and/or mows down its controllers so the Callidus can backstab it.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:26 No.13215999
    So... Levels?
How do you feel about this?

We kill dudes worth x points and every level we get one(or a few) talent points to spend on agility, strenght, hp and mana(? (for shit like mindblasts, charges, special attacks)
And every few levels you can upgrade at your local tech priest. Things like more ammo in gun, more special ammo, longer range, faster reload and so forth.

or just go the old couterstrike, battlefield, halflife and what have you?
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:27 No.13216003
Eversor should have a berserk charge attack.

Stop for a few seconds, charge a button, and then OH YEAH, tearing across enemies, walls and anything else in the Eversor's way.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:28 No.13216010
It could, be the Callidus' dodge should be special somehow to make up for the fragility and the need to get into melee to use their sneak attack special. Fluffwise, their polymorphine allows them to shape their bodies, explaining this preternatural agility even among assassins.

On that note, the Callidus would obviously have to have their 'blend in' ability which might make a special dodge redunant if it could be used instantly.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:31 No.13216024

    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:32 No.13216027
Well for single player, it'd be an objective-based "level ups." Do better on a mission, you unlock more shit.

For Competitive multi, do it like Call of Duty. Get tiny snips of XP from kills, combos, and shit like that. Like have achievements, but give them a grimdark name like "Assassin Protocols" or some shit.

Co-op (Final Stand and Regular) would be done at the end of the match, depending on how well you did. (FS would be numbers killed, what wave you were on, etc; and Co-op would be time completed the mission)

Single player upgrades are just that, upgrades and new weapons, nothing too spectacular.

Multi would be mainly abilities and wargear (Think Last Stand on DoW2) and customizable armour and weapons (No pot leaves, just more skulls, purity seals, cowls, shit like that)
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:32 No.13216031
Definitely, I believe he's also the only assassin of the four to carry melta bombs.

That sounds reasonable. I'd say make the tech upgrades be the ones to give raw stat/damage/accuracy boosts, and let the level up upgrades be mainly about abilities, their effects and their charge times.

Some missions could be geared more towards certain assassins (for example, killing a rogue psyker would be easiest with a Culexus), but you could choose a different assassin if you wanted (for fun and/or extra challenge).

Can OH YEAH through most walls.
    Genestealers in the walls man.

    Final destination.

Oh and I would like to have the assassins die at the end of their chapters.
Especially the evesor since this dude doesn't acutally get trained. They just pump him full of drugs, strap some weapons and a bomb on him and point him in a general direction of where they need something killed.
IIRC they only live for so long before the drugs (who are poisonus) kills the poor guy and the bomb goes off

I think you're wrong. While their deathrate probably is high, they aren't one-time use only. They only explode upon death or if something goes wrong - there isn't a pre-determined timer for that.

Hmm, that might work, or how about have it divided into more chapters?

Aka Chapters 1-4 are the Tutorials, where you play each assassin to get a feel for them, and Chapters 5-? are the actual story, where you pick your assassin. (Picking the same assassin will make some missions hard as hell, but you'll have more upgrade points to spend on that assassin, unlocking more abilities.)

Yeah I read up on them on lexicanum. Seems I was wrong.

The Eversor Temple makes use of a number of combat drugs that make the assassin psychotically insane and push his bio-engineered body to the limit in order to better his performance on the battlefield. As such, these assassins possess a hyperactive immune system to counteract the toxins in the drugs they use.

    An Eversor Assassin in action.

The large amount of drugs and modification used to make the Eversor into an unstoppable killing machine are highly addictive and without them the assassin will surely die. This means that the assassins are completely addicted to death itself and the only way they can survive is by being placed in cryo-suspension

Eversors are trained, and they don't die every mission.

That mission would be a nice tongue in cheek jab at SPACESHIP HORROR games (Like Dead Space).

Aliens coming out of the walls! GO THROUGH THE WALLS!!!

An otherwise scary area turned to a comical death-playground for the player.

Vindicare Assasin looking through walls at Genestealers sneaking about.

Evasor BURSTS thorugh the walls screaming and firing.

Genestealers freak out and the broodlord is suddenly stabbed with a C'tan Phase Sword.

Would be a great cutscene to use as a joke about all those horror games. You are the horror.

Incredibly no. They have no bombs in them. They *are*, however, dependent on levels of drugs and toxins that'd kill almost anyone else, have biology tuned to the extreme, and remain intact only thanks to their superhuman bioengineering. When you kill one, they can no longer control their biology and they essentially burst showering people nearby with drugs, acidic blood and whatnot- that's why they explode on death.

They don't have limited lifespans as such (and probably technically live for longer than many others), it's simply that after a relatively short amount of time they're severely affected by the various drugs they're on and become addicted to combat, so they get put in Cryo or some other storage between missions to prevent them flipping out on 3-month warp journeys.

Eversor Driving the truck, Vindicare Sniping from on top.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)12:27 No.13216403
You mean Eversor driving the truck, ramming everything including the Vindicare at 300 mph?
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)12:39 No.13216482

Yes. The Vindicare is hanging on with one hand and being forced to shoot without the use of his sight.

    He still hasn't missed yet.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)12:41 No.13216493
That'd be a most excellent picture. Eversor driving a Taurus and the Vindicare hanging off with one hand and shooting with the other.
