    Hey does anyone remember this;

    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/13056308/

Basically in which, in the group there was a female paladin acting up the whole chivalrous knight routine, and when the guy became her husband she started beating him? That is, she viewed and treated him as precious and in need of defending, and could never leave the house.

We went on to discuss how, this was simply unacceptable and something needed to be done about her and her crazy ideals. In the end, the general consensus was to intervene in a big damn hero moment and save the day thereby proving his usefulness.

    Anyone remember that?

    Yeah well you know what?

I love you, that was the best advice ever.

    People said they wanted an update? Here's the update;

My character tried and trained to become his best, got the help and favors of old friends, and saved the day like a big damn hero. Then when that didn't work, and he was chained and locked away in a tower and tortured, he snapped asunder and broke the paladin's heart.

So yeah, the guy that said become the hero and win her over can go to heaven. The plan worked too well.

(hint: it starts with a k and ends with "itchen")

    ...

I jest, of course, but seriously - that kind of chivalrous bullshit rarely works if the character is MALE, much less if it's a female. Has nobody gotten annoyed by her view of men? Overdone chivalrous men get reminded that some women are actually strong and self-reliant all the time, why does that not happen here?

I guess I'll just post using images I can find on this computer. Some of them are relevant, but allot of them aren't.

    ---

Anyway so the last time there was a thread, I detailed how my character was shotgunned wedding-d with the groups paladin, who was done up like a chivalrous knight, but in reverse. That is, she treated men as the fairer sex and acted chivalrously towards them and believed they needed protecting.

Well during the adventuring our characters were in love to the point where the paladin more or less discarded her beliefs, and they did everything together.

However when they were forced married due to a mistake, she suddenly went 180 and staunchly returned to her beliefs, and had my character confined to the home and not allowed to leave or do anything dangerous.

Well in this scenario, her character actually is very strong, the strongest in the group, so she can more or less get away with it.

    >>13254650

Anyway so, with my character out of the limelight afforded the rest of the group, it basically meant character death, as he'd no longer be part of the story. However I really liked him, and wanted ways to work out of the predicament. /tg/ suggested a myriad of neat ways to break free, ranging from running away forever, to sleeping with the party bard. In general though, the overall consensus was to train in my characters free time, and to stage an intervention.

I approached the DM like people suggested (out of all the advice given I believe this was the best, really, talking to the DM about it helped everything), and tried to figure out how to work around the problem.

At first I got my guy to try actual training for things like strength, without the other servants in the house knowing (lest the tell the lady of the house). The problem was, that as much as my guy could or wanted to train, it wasn't nearly enough to compare to the amount the others (namely the paladin) gained/leveled by actual leveling. So that was that plan kaput nor even a significant amount of time after it began.

Another option that was much more viable was to contact old allies and hire mercenaries to assist in saving the day for the party when and if they got overwhelmed. This proved to be much better and manageable, and before long I got something of a small army of capable bodies.

Not everyone I wanted mind you, the two at the top of the list were busy or taken by the party, but most everyone was available at requesting the DM.

So after lots of careful planning and organizing which was still quite difficult (the fucking head maid is a real bitch), my guy had everything ready, so now it was just to keep the paladin in the dark and out of my pants, and play the waiting game. Which didn't take too long thanks to the DM, and the reckless actions of the party bard.

So when it looked to be about the right time, me and my own little NPC party rode out. Sure I was going to be in big trouble with my wife, probably a beating, but hey... I was going to save the day!

So with the DM's help our little group basically tracked the party for a few days waiting for trouble to overtake them. Luckily it took less time than for word to reach the paladin that my guy had left the house, and thanks to the bard they were knee deep in likely TPK.

And then boom, over the hill on horses and carts and shit, we rode like the Light Brigade, except successful.

We shit kicked them orkoids like a collection of ugly asses. And there my dude is standing on top of a big pile with the sun behind him and looking like an awesome Tager lookin' motherfucker. But... that just made him more of a target.

Despite the DM being a huge help, I have a feeling that his sort of orchestrated but anyway so the guy's looking like the hero and the group is all sparkle-eyed at seeing their bro again. Maybe even the paladin, but it was short-lived.

The orkoid leader decided to show up and was pissed all his army was being decimated, and attacked the person he deemed most responsible, IE the guy looking like he saved the day.

He charged up the pile of KO'd/dead shlubs, and crit-ed my guy in the back. And then the fight started.

My character could hold his own, but it was a losing battle (a boss enemy appropriate for the group, who had been leveling while I hadn't), and if it weren't for the intervention of the paladin (most apt to drop her fight and storm through, because she had the most to lose), my guy would be dead.

Thankfully though he just got unconscious-made.

    >>13255539

The battle was won though, and after my guy got taken care of, he woke up to the celebrations of the party (it was pretty much the battle to wrap up the quest/arc). Oddly enough the paladin was absent, so it was actually nice and great-like. It was later that night though that she decided to make an appearance, and it wasn't pleasant.

While most everyone took it as a good sign, she used it as the prime example of why my character shouldn't be out. If it weren't for her then I'd be dead.

While I had done everything right and effectively saved the day, and helped everyone and shit, it had more or less the reverse intended effect on the paladin which was all that was supposed to matter.

She couldn't take out her anger on my guy because of his state, but she made clear that if she couldn't keep him safe as it was and he wouldn't obey her, then she was going to remove the danger from the equation altogether, and he was going to be locked in a tower for the rest of his days.

Needless to say I was worried. I would have preferred a savage beating.

So once things quieted down, she took him back home, and quite literally chained him up and locked him in the attic till she could figure out what to do with him, having the maids feed him and stuff so she wouldn't have any interaction.

At this point, despite all the cool stuff he'd done and the events to transpire, I figured this was it, my characters ending was him chained away in the attic of the family estate out of sight, out of mind, and I'd be stuck playing the fagballs new character.

But no, she maintained that because my level of action had been so great, a necessary reaction was required. My character might have met his end, but not yet.

It didn't happen until about a week later, but when it did it was violent and abrupt. I was able to ascertain that some guests had arrived, given the hurried nature of the servants. Just who though, wasn't clear.

About that same day I believe, in come several knights heavily armored head to toe in thick plate. They drag my guy down to the basement (where one of the old cells had been cleared out, probably beforehand). I figure something bad's about to go down, and though it did but not in the way I imagined.

My guy is sat at a table in the dim light, with the knights standing about, and one of them begins the conversation. Her voice gives it away, and I realize these are all knights of the order. Either my guy's wife summoned them, or they decided to intervene when they found out what happened, but either way here they were now, and they were scary ass hell.

    So began the interrogation.

If anyone's read 1984, where they try to convince the guy that 1+1=3 through torture and brainwashing, it was basically like that, with my guy and these knights. Like I said, I believe that the DM had orchestrated this early on, to have the scenario pan out like this for the most drama.

    ---

So they talked about the stuff he had done, how it was unacceptable, and how harsher punishments should have been doled.

I said that was bullshit and that I wasn't some girly-boy to be chained beneath a bunch of women and my wife, while the majority of society went on normal-like.

They compared how much more capable my wife was, and made clear that in marrying her, I married into the Order as well. My life and It were one and the same now.

So it pretty much just degraded from there, because of my constant denials and refusals, they eventually became less and less civil, and resorted to more aggressive interrogation, torture even.

I later learned that my wife had been just outside the door huddled over crying, trying her best to keep herself from breaking in and killing them all for treating me poorly. Not sure if that counts for anything.

I believe I should mention, that despite all the other threads and the images posted to related, I've never really made the degree of appearance the knights of the order have. Like there have been pics of armored women and stuff, but it's allot more like pic related. They're mostly hardened soldiers, and covered in thick solid armor, you can't tell by looking that they're women. That's sort of the whole point I guess. Much the same with the paladin, as with the rest of them, you can't tell their gender until they speak.

So yeah, it's not so much a chick in armor that fits more to her form, so much as walking tanks of metal, and deep down somewhere underneath is a woman.

    >>13255985

Anyway so yeah, my guy was going against the order, it's ways, my wife, their rules, all sorts of other shit, and by effect the will of God.

In most if not all other cases, such a case would be deemed as simple heresy or demonic possession or whatever (something that the Order genuinely deals with regularly, actual demons and shit like that). Though because of my wife's status, they were to take a lighter hand. It was made clear though, that I was not the first to be like this, and there were many other cases such as mine for them to deal with, and it was usually the same way.

So they eventually resorted to torturing and violent interrogation and such, to get clear the message and me to accept it. In this case it wasn't so much my stubborn refusal of their rules, so much as my opposition to God that they were punishing.

Nothing to inflict serious body harm, but it wasn't all sunshine and lollipops and rainbows.

Just to point out, they're not as evil looking or anything, but around or above that level of armor, is the idea.

    ---

As an aside, I'd like to note that I had at least considered something like this, and so had more or less a working plan for any such situations. As some people suggested, breaking down would have a desired effect in the long run.

I suppose the DM had something of a similar idea too though, because the further and further things got, I had to make rolls and saves for "sanity damage" or fortitude or whatever. So while I had intended to play along with things for story and drama, it was turning out that my character himself was actually breaking down as a result.

And so by the end my guy was brought to a diminished heap of murmuring about compliance to the Order and deliriously crying for his wife. He had already been stripped by now, and it was about at this time they branded him.

On the left side of the chest, the symbol of the order superimposed over a big cross. To demonstrate, I belonged to (or more actually was property of, I believe) the Order. So at last I had been broken down, like a horse. Now my guy needed to be broken in.

And that was where my wife came in.

And so, they summoned my wife, who tried her hardest possible not to keep crying at the sight of her husband a broken crying mess, delirious and crawling towards her for help.

They made clear what needed to be done, although I assume they had beforehand, but just to reassure her. And so they left, and my guy was holding onto her leg like a scared child. By now he couldn't tell which way was up, and barely in his right mind. He was just broken down and bleeding, a world of pain and his wife was the only familiar thing to offer safety from it all.

She maintained a stoic demeanor throughout though and simply went through the motions. Which were, to throw him off her and remove any leftover tatters of clothing on my guy and hold him down. She was wearing a formal robe but did not need to take anything off, she could do what she needed in what she was wearing.

And so to my horror, she proceeded to make love to my character, holding down his broken shaking form against his pleading to stop. All the while she just kept a straight face, and only replied that "It's for your own good." and "Don't fight."

And so that was how their love was expressed, their marriage consummated. Forcibly, after torture in a filthy dungeon, with as little love as possible, if any.

Apparently this was the response deemed necessary by the Order representatives, after my guy had been broken down and convinced of his inferiority and dependence. And it worked. By the end, my character took enough sanity damage and was basically a vegetable, just lying there shaking till she felt she had done what was required, and even after that, when she left and convened with the others waiting outside.

Normally no such measures would be taken, and my wife only contacted them about seeking assistance on what to do. But because mine was a persistent problem, and the wife was an important member, they sent the inquisition without my wife's knowledge.

She thought it was just some friends, or even other men, to help her convince me, but one day the knights showed up, and she couldn't really do anything after that, they just took over the situation and told her what to do. She knew things were bad the moment they arrived, but it was out of her control by then.

    >>13256259

Yes, if it's any coincidence, the Bard wrote a poem/song to commemorate the event, which she learned the details of from the paladins squire.

She calls it "Recompense for the Rebel" and likes to sing and dance it when the paladin isn't around.

At this point, my reaction as a player- assuming that I wanted to stick it out- would be to say that the sanity damage has split my character's personality.

He now has a "protector" personality which emerges whenever anyone in the order- or even resembling them- is nearby and acting in an official-ish capacity. It is extremely subservient in its actions and just takes it whenever abuse is heaped upon him until the people who hurt go away.

The other is the person who married the paladin originally and could never have believed that she'd do that to him, and has no memory of it. It's out most of the time, except of course that whenever there's any indication that he's in danger the other personality will grab it by the neck and lock it inside his head to keep it safe and and happy and still loving the paladin.

Most excellent, OP. At first, your opening statements made me worry about what had transpired, but now that you've thoroughly explained what has transpired thus far, it seems to me that the DM is setting up the Order to be the BBEG with this moral event horizon. I was a big supporter of that idea in the last thread.

Unfortunately, what happens from here is pretty much entirely out of your hands and in the Paladin's with outcomes varying greatly. At worse, with a seemingly high probably of occuring, she remains overall unchanged by the ordeal and lets the status quo continue, bringing the plot to a halt and making your character entirely hopeless. What I'm hoping for, though, is that your torture becomes the turning point for the Paladin to finally oppose the Order, which can work in two main ways. On one hand, she can take you and flee, undoubtedly triggering a relentless hunt by the Order when one of their own goes rogue. This would eventually lead to the other path where the Paladin takes the fight to the Order itself. Along the way, she can find some way to make you better, if possible.

Do continue pestering your DM on this matter, as it's pretty much the only thing you can do, at this point. He, in turn, will manipulate the scenario and guide the Paladin toward making the right decision that will lead toward awesomeness for everyone involved. This story shall not go to waste!

Also, the Bard needs to be punched in the ovaries extra hard now.

Well like I said, things were never supposed to go this far.

It just ended up that the actual legit evil members of the Order got involved. Evil members who still serve God, but do horrible things and are usually tasked with things like burning heretics and combating demons.

They showed up when the paladin expected priests or friends, and at that moment she knew things were fucked. If she didn't obey them, they'd just kill everyone in the household and claim demon taint, or whatever reason they pleased.

It is of course important to note, that these individuals are few in number, and kept largely separate from the dealings and locations of the Order. They're the ugly head that comes rearing when ugly work needs doing.

As a side note, up until that point, my character and the paladin hadn't actually had sex, despite being in love for a time before, and being married for a time until.

My guy's reasoning was that he didn't want her to get pregnant, lest he be then made to stay home and raise the kids, aka total permanent character death.

Her reasoning, made clear in passing, was that she didn't want to injure my guy in the act, due to the significant strength differences. Which as it turned out was a valid concern, because during that first time she fractured his spine. I'm not sure if it was because he was between her and stone floor (perhaps a bed would wield different?), but though he received medical attention after, it left a lasting impression.

    ---

So with that, my guy had been broken down by the inquisitors, broken in by his wife, branded and made subservient property of the Order.

For them at least, job well done. After my guy's wife finished up with him, she left to convene with the others, I image to discuss the situation from there and assure her it was the right course of action, as well as congratulate her and hoping for a successful conception, all that stuff.

Meanwhile my guy was left used and lying broken physically, emotionally, and mentally by the love of his life in the dungeon of his own house.

It wasn't his wife that took care of him after, rather the maids that cleaned him up and got him medical attention, taking care of him till he was capable of moving about.

Not that it made a difference though, he just laid in bed all day not moving or responding to anyone, or eating or drinking. It was at the orders of the lady of the house, his wife, that they force feed/drink him when they went to her informing her of the situation and that he would die if not seen to.

Unfortunately, a few days later the paladin left to return to the party and continue on. And the whole time she had not seen or visited my character once. Although, that was probably for the best.

During that time and after, it was just that maids that kept him company and tried to help him however they could. Dressing him or taking him for walks, etc...

Even the head maid seemed sympathetic to his situation.

During the time the paladin was away, the maids did a fairly good job of helping my guy (his characterization was more or less out of my control, his sanity was destroyed and wasn't recovering).

That is, he didn't remain in bed like in a coma. He still needed to be fed and dressed and taken to the bathroom, but they didn't need to lead him around by the hand all the time anymore. After seeing that he was alright, they could just let him go and he'd wander around while they could work.

They might need to let him out if he was stuck at a door, or take a break to find him when he got lost or fell down stairs or something, but in general it was life as usual in the estate, with the addition of a somewhat needy yet docile housecat, if you will.

He still didn't respond to anyone though, and they often found him rocking or crying in corners. All in all it was deliciously tragic to witness, the paladin had left thinking things would be alright and back to normal.

She regretted it to no end, spending the whole time adventuring only halfheartedly and grieving, barely leaving her room/tent. Still though she assumed that this was a bump in the road so to speak, and once she got back she'd find a Stepford Husband, as the various members of the Order had told her.

When she got another downtime break from adventuring, she returned and it was beautiful.

Basically the maids had to "reintroduce" my character to the paladin like he was a puppy or something getting to know a stranger. She returned one day, and without wait ran looking for him happily, finding him pressing keys on a piano, and ran up and hugged him. He didn't notice until it happened, and immediately he started shrieking and crying, fighting his hardest to get away till he fell from her arms and crawled backwards away shaking till he hit the wall and curled up in a ball.

After that she took a little more care, and so would be at one end of a room or garden and have the maids bring my guy in. He'd be trying to run or pull away though, whining and crying, but made to be there or interact with the paladin.

After about a week, it was at the point at least where he could be left with her and not run away. Though he still tried to avoid such situations and had to be forced there in the first place. And in general, he started shaking violently when she was around, and whined and drew away from touching.

At first arriving she was high-spirited and happy to see him. But when she began to realize overtime that he wasn't playing a game or pretending, that he was really like this, it progressively had an effect on her.

In trying to confide with the head maid, even she made clear to the paladin that it was a mistake to go this far as she had done.

Eventually the two were left to dinner one night, and talking of things that had happened in the world or adventuring (more or less talking to herself, my guy neither said nor responded to her at all, just looking at a patch on the floor or something) though of note she would talk or ask questions or laugh to herself at something funny but at no response she would sigh or get a pained look (with the despair increasingly showing on her face), she felt things had gotten to the point where she could try to move further along once more. After all, they had been past that specific point before.

So after dinner and her talking was done, she carried him to the bedroom, carefully undressed him and tried to make love again. She approached it entirely differently, trying to take things slowly so he was comfortable, as well as try to make it passionate/pleasurable. Still though the response was the same, she could put her all into it as much as she wanted, but my guy just lay there with a dead look in his eyes, crying silently and shaking. And of course right there was the great big brand mark on his chest staring her in the face, still not fully healed and an endless reminder of what she had done.

She did what she wanted then put him to bed with her, doing everything she could for the past few weeks to shower him with love and compassion, culminating at this moment as she held him in her arms and drifted to sleep. Plagued by nightmares she was though.

From that moment on she made it a point to take care of him herself, dressing him, feeding him, washing him and taking him to the bathroom, walking him and carrying him down stairs. She may have even made love to him once more while washing with him, but that scene was vague so I can't be sure.

Not that it mattered though, I wasn't even really playing the character anymore. As stated, his sanity was destroyed.

Despite her best attempts, nothing was changing, and now even more than before she was losing heart and hope. She prayed more often, spoke and slept less, regarded things with lessened interest, other than her extreme focus on her husband and trying to fix together his pieces.

Eventually it came to fruition during a walk through the gardens one day. She took him to sit with her beneath oak where they first kissed. She laid him down on her lap, stroking his hair and looking across the rows of pretty plants, talking about this and that. Eventually it just came to silence, which after several minutes she broke.

She had become too desperate, and broke down asking me what could still be wrong, begging me to respond or tell her, pleading that she would do anything and everything she could just to make things the way they once were. She drew my guy close to her and begged.

That fucking DM, right then and there, he made my guy regain a point or so of sanity, enough that I could have some effect on what he did. But I already knew my answer.

No, no one is that naive. Unless she's got a Wisdom score of around six, she can't possibly be that stupid, either. She knew what she was doing, knew that it wouldn't help, and did it anyway.

It had been the same dream for nearly a year.

It was always the same location. A pristine hall of court, as if carved from marble, some strange, alien light shining down, blurring her vision. Always the same group of men and women dressed in white, expressions blank, seated behind her in many rows, to both sides. Always the same speech and the same movements.

    Always the same trial.

"You are on trial for the following crimes," the presiding judge droned, reading off a curl of parchment.

"Guilty," Elizabeth whispered under her breath, because it always ended the same way.

"Wrongful imprisonment, physical and mental torture, rape..."

    "Guilty," she whispered again.

"...assault, wrongful use of authority...my, this is quite the list."

    "Guilty."

The judge rolled up the parchment, handed it to a servant with sharp shoulders and clouded glasses. "Now...will the victim's lawyer present his argument?"

She was leaned over, clutching what was left of the love of her life to herself begging for some response or sign that I was still there. Without moving or looking or doing anything I answered.

"Why did you marry me? Why are we still married?"

Those were the first words out of my mouth in a few months I believe. And she knew it. Understandably it took her a moment to respond from the shock.

"Because I love you! I married a man I loved more than anything in the world, I want to know if he still exists!"

Again my response was as dead and monotone as before.

"There was once a man who loved you with all his heart, with every fiber of his being. But you chipped away at him bit by bit, and the more he tried, the more he gave, the more you fought, till there was nothing left. Because you were so much stronger than him."

She took it like an icy dagger through the heart, her breathing becoming shaky as she fought back the tears.

"N-no! It's not true! Everything I did, I did because I care, to protect our love!"

"As did I. I have given all I am, and I am no more."

With that she drew in sharply, pulling him closer and tighter, before letting go and running off crying. And my guy just remained there till the maids came to collect him.

    ---

Forgive me if any of that reads poorly, it's how I recollect the conversation went.

After that, the wife didn't leave her room for a good few days. I could control my character a little bit now, but I didn't really change the behavior, it kept driving home the effect when she asked of me.

I spent more time with the head maid, whom always hated me, but turned out to be pretty cool girl. Really just to pass the time, but it came as an added bonus.

Also out of the blue the stupid ooze mage came to visit (replying to the summons I sent requesting her aid in the big damn heroes moment), a few months late. Humorously enough, our mental/emotional levels were about the same, so she was the one so far after the initial "breaking in" by my wife, that my character most related to. It was only for half a day though before she left again, not being needed.

In this way it was kind of funny that despite my mental ineptitude, my character more or less acted as the house representative along with the head maid, while the wife was in seclusion.

And so it continued like this for another week or so, until it was holding the party up. In response the paladins squire came to the estate to see what the situation was. She always regarded my character with disdain, essentially "corrupting" her master in her eyes. So right away she greeted my guy with hostility till the head maid intervened.

Then she met with the paladin and didn't come out for quite awhile and much shouting was heard. My guy started crying as a result, the some of the maids present holding him and trying to comfort him.

It ended with the squire storming out, and making a beeline for my guy. She threw the maids aside and started beating him, yelling about how this was all his fault, he was a weak piece of shit (and other swears), and how he should just die and she'd like it to be by her hand.

In response (after being thrown into a corner and being beaten) my character just curled up shaking again, bawling all the more and at the tipping point of losing sanity again, actually called out for help from his wife just like the time he was being tortured, although to be fair he was in delirium again.

The head maid was about to splatter the squire across the walls, but out comes the wife charging down the stairs with a sword and shield, smashing the squire away and sending her flying.

After the initial encounter, we've met her on and off, and remained friends to the degree that we can call on her for help or info.

    Yes! Now THAT'S a MINDFUCK!

OP you beautiful bastard you are required to keep fucking going with this son of a bitch character. You are to soldier on, with the help of the Paladin he will be better, he will be fixed, the two of them will be stronger together when they both realise what brought them together wasn't some dickhead assassin, it wasn't some laws of the order, it was each other.

And then, the next time he arrives at the head of the fucking cavalry that saves the party, she will not berate him for leaving the house, she will cheer with the rest of them.

She stands in the way to protect me, and OOC I am informed that the head maid is smiling.

The squire retorts with more shouting, what the wife is doing, can't she see she's been blinded by my guy, it's all a ruse, etc... even if it is true, she has her obligations to the order, the state of her husband is unimportant, so long as he can serve as breeding stock.

The wife simply thanks the squire for her service and dismisses her from her service.

The squire is speechless, infuriated, and all manner of other feelings. She promptly challenges the wife to a duel then, as it's customary or something. The wife obliges though OOC I'm worried because the squire is one tough cookie and fully armed and armored, while the wife is just in a robe with a sword and shield.

NPC to the last though I suppose, as I see firsthand just how strong the wife has become during adventuring since our separation. She quite simply decimates the squire, actually destroying much of her armor, which was a gift from the wife. Now it makes sense how she was able to seriously injure my character by accident from just sex, and if trying, could probably easily hug him to death alone.

While I'm not going to say she isn't strong, it'd be more fair to say that the whole party/game advanced while my character stayed still. So he's still like a normal guy while they're all pretty far ahead, with the paladin simply highest in strength as always.

    >>13257942

So the wife sends the squire scrambling on her way in a beaten mess, back to the order to find a new master (she couldn't perform well enough in the duel). Handing her weapons to the head maid and having the other maids clean up the mess from the duel, she returns to pick my whimpering guy up, and carry him to the parlor to get him bandaged and fixed up.

Once done, she gives him a kiss on the forehead before heading off in a hurry. My guy returns to the main hall eventually to see the others, the head maid laughing with another and the others looking pretty content despite what transpired.

Eventually the wife returns, fully decked out in her greatest suit of armor that had never been taken off of display before out of reverence (her old crusade armor, before she joined the Order), and the related weapons. She clears some things up with the head maid, gives the rest instructions, and has everything she needs brought to the front and ready for transport.

My guy the whole time was just sitting on the floor by the door watching everything quietly. Before heading out the wife stops to put a hand on my shoulder.

"Don't worry Martin, I'll be back soon. I've got to take care of some things."

With that she heads out, and holding onto the door while peering out like a scared child (although of note my guy wasn't scared or anything, just a result of his low sanity), and calls after her with one thing.

    "Good luck."

The man sitting next to Martin stood. He looked clean and pleasant. Like everyone else, he wore white - even his skin shone like the skin of everyone else in the hall. "Good morning," he said with practiced drama, folding hands behind his back and walking out on the floor in a crisp, military strut. "Today I intend to prove that this...so-called paladin is guilty of the crime of abusing and destroying this innocent young man." He gestured to Martin, who would never look up and always keep his hands folded and eyes on the table. "This man, who simply wanted to experience the world and bring it some much needed hope. This man...whom the accused helped crush in mind, body, and spirit." He crushed his fingers into a fist.

The assembly spoke unintelligble, hushed words to each other. Elizabeth had never figured out what they were saying all the times she sat here.

The lawyer spread his hands in a shrug. "Of course...you've all heard the talk. Ever since the order was exposed from the inside, you've all become aware of their crimes, which is why I won't dwell on those. Instead, I'd like to jump straight to the testimony. If his honor doesn't mind."

The judge lazily waved a hand, cheek resting on old fist.

    Dude, easy answer.

She comes back and finds him practicing with his sword/weapon of choice. It would be easy to wrangle with the head maid, perhaps he just only really seems animated when he can see his old equipment. Normally he mopes around, mumbles any answers, winces when people approach him. However put his sword in his hand...

It's not acrobatics, it's not a dance, what it is is a practical demonstration of how to harm someone with sharpened steel. He practices every day. He goes outside and sits near the tree, swinging his sword. He comes when called for food, but he first chance he gets he practices again.

Then she returns. He winces away and drops the sword, as if worried she'll think it's an aggressive action.

How does she react? If she's anything like I'm reading, she'll be overjoyed that he was animated, if only for a moment, and then crushed when he returns to how he was.

Then she'll pick up his sword, and train him. She'll be so longing for that man she knew to return, that she would put a sword in his hand and train him.

Ignore the "lol kill everything" people OP. You've finally got the Paladin to see the error of her ways, don't throw it all away by RPing the easy way out and making your character go apeshit.

Hopefully she'll come back alive and you two can run away into the sunset together. Over time your character slowly begins to regain his sanity though he's never quite the same. He's quieter, sterner more taciturn than before. Eventually when he regains enough sanity points he cuts off/distorts the brand in a dramatic RP moment.

    I'm not going to defend her actions, but I will say that my guy isn't really in a state to be adventuring;

    - Severely mentally and emotionally disabled
    - Physically weak normally (relative to the others' level), currently emaciated more or less due to not eating
    - Currently just got beaten badly by the squire
    - Still recovering the initial torture/rape (he still can't walk fully well from his broken back)

I mean the whole dealio with the conversation in the garden and mustering the concentration to see her off with good luck, was a great deal of effort/a one time thing so far. He still needs to heal physically, and even then it will be probably many years before he gets back his mental capacities fully, perhaps never.

One step at a time I figure, at least get better physically, start eating again.

There's a spell specifically made to show you the most intense pain (or pleasure as the caster's choice) imaginable, the consequence of it being that after you recover from it (if you recover) your senses are all deadened permanently, since you can never feel anything even remotely close to what the spell simulated ever again.

There's another spell that traps you in a world where you're the only being to exist, while your true body will slowly rot and decay as if in a comatose state. You are aware of your surroundings but to you it's all phantoms that you cannot hear, nor interact with.

    Just to name a few.

    Yep.

Well plans never go as planned. OP has evolved a lot in his own decision making skills throughout the threads he has posted. Without that all of this would have fallen to the ground and died.

I really don't know where OP WANTS it to be taken. But I do know that he can take it wherever he pleases if he does it right. The paladin seems to be breaking down in another way not unlike OPs character. And is most likely going to do something really bad that will make her on the run from the order. OP can literally steer the Paladin towards any goal from then on if he does right by himself.

It all depends where OP wants it to go.

Like always, her gaze unmercifully pulled towards him to meet his back as he hunched over, attended by the servants. She could speak, she could gape, but the dream never allowed her any other form of control. If this was the dream walking shamans had spoken about...this wasn't it.

Martin's lawyer walked in front of the stand and put on his believable, drooping sad face. "Now, Martin...I know this is hard for you." He spoke as if to a child. "But I would really like it if you helped me out today. All right?"

"Okay." Martin's reply was so faint, so drained.

"What happened after they took you to the tower?" the lawyer asked.

"They told me I was defying their god," Martin said. "They beat me and cursed me until I couldn't move or think properly. Then they branded me with the symbol of their order."

    "May we see it?"

Martin turned around, unbuttoning his long shirt. He never met Elizabeth's eyes, but hers met the symbol, scorched deep into his right pectoral. The dream never let her ignore it. The congregation's whispers continued as Martin faced the judge with shirt held open, and the judge bent over, chin rippling with fat as it pressed into his neck.

"Please note that this is the symbol of the order the paladin is assosciated with," the lawyer said, and the scribe's quill danced across his slip of paper. "They take to branding individuals and calling them their 'property'." The lawyer nodded to Martin. "Thank you very much, Martin. You can close your shirt, if you'd like."

It's great to see that the story went in the direction I was hoping for after all, OP, but don't get the idea that the Paladin will have everything resolved in just one trip. If that's the case, then the DM is doing it wrong.

The way I see it, the squire has crawled back to the Order to snitch on the Paladin, who departed to defend her actions and you. Considering that she rejected her current Order-sanctified gear in preference of her older stuff, she's probably going to declare separation from the Order altogether.

This, I imagine, is when the real battle begins.

It won't simply be a matter of offing a few evil inquisitor-types. The entire Order will be against the Paladin since having one of their higher-ups go rogue is bad for business. As tough as she is, the Paladin will still not be able to take them on by herself and will have to return to the estate quickly, hopefully before the Order gets there first. Then you and the estate staff (who I assume fully support the Paladin) will have to be evacuated to some safe zone before planning any further actions.

Yeah, I agree it's not realistic. But fuck, I like happy endings. Anyways, Fictional relationships tend to be unrealistic due to the power of twue wuv. Yes mistakes were made, but now that the character has realized her mistakes she can begin to work towards fixing them. I'm not saying it'll be easy or hell, even possible but they should at least try to go for the happy ending.

1st off I envy your roleplaying and your groups roleplaying.
What happened that your character responded like that to his trama(canatonicly)? Massive failure of will save or just due to how you spoke to your GM about your plans. What has the party been doing while all of this is going on? How is your GM doing all this in game as it seems it's alot about just 2 characters and the other players would get bored.

    Let me restate my suggestion:

    1. With the DM's approval, start going crazy in a different way. Start fantasizing about killing. Start maiming/scarring yourself.
    2. Assuming you have Leadership: get in contact with some mercinaries, the crazier, the better.
    3. While the paladin is away, bring in the mercinaries. Slaughter the maids/staff, personally kill and behead the Head Maid.
    4. Burn the manor.
    5. LEAD A PATH OF DESTRUCTION AND DEATH.

Failing that, completely break the paladin. No forgiveness, no remorse.

You want her to feel dealing with her squire is not enough, you want her to feel that her order must suffer for the path it put her down and the path that put you down.
You want her to embrace the anger she has in her own actions against the order, and with that destroy it, tear it apart piece by piece until she can scatter its ashes to the four winds and never allow such a cruel thing to exist again.
And from there you are the key to her redemption or damnation.
Whether you recover enough to push her along the path to teach equality instead of one gender is stronger than the other, or you change not at all, forever cursing her with not knowing what she must do to bring back the man she loved, tearing the world asunder in hopes that something will work.

There is of course with you going into demonic pacts or some such after she takes out her order and using the new imbalance in the amount of paladins to let the forces of chaos and destruction take over, but that's somewhat lame unless it has a specific reason.

However with the options at hand, I'd say I would wish for her to suffer eternally, but that's more due to personal reasoning than the evidence you've shown.

Just keep in touch with your DM on ways this whole situation can be spiced up, bringing up the suggestions we're making here. I imagine that he should already have some things to throw at you, personally, while all of this is happening.

And for the love of God, DON'T go throwing yourself away to CE.

...aside from the whole 'wife being attached to a cult of misandrists and not being above the occasional bout of spousal abuse herself' part. For those parts it kind of sucks.

Well. I do remember advocating that you should do your best to turn your wife around. I think we can probably check that off the list. I think it's safe to say I never expected that bringing her around to seeing your side of things would involve reducing you to the kind of broken wreck that actually benefit from her old overprotective attitude.

What you need to do is focus on getting back in the saddle. This incident has left you levels behind everyone and dangerously low on mental stability. That's not something you are likely going to be able to correct in full, but you can start making some inroads on that. Still, you are playing a severely handicapped invalid, and that's going to limit your options.

On the one hand, you can probably get back into respecting her, but the whole broken back - torture - rape incident is unlikely to go away, even if your character really wants it to. That is likely to stick as a wedge between you for the rest of forever. Which might lead to all kinds of incidents where you're sitting in an otherwise normal situation with your girl and she tries to do something romantic, and then you come to missing the last five minutes, curled into a ball and screaming uncontrollably.

Time apart might just be the best option for this, if you get to the point where you can actually travel.

"Elizabeth entered the chamber and we had intercourse."

The lawyer pursed his lips. "The abovementioned rape, the court will notice, taking advantage of a tortured man in order for her to bear a child. No doubt, another body for the order to instill its twisted principles upon."

"That's not true," Elizabeth said aloud, even though she knew the dream would ignore her.

"And after that?" the lawyer asked.

"I was taken home and attended to by the servants," Martin said.

"But I realized my mistake!" Elizabeth slapped her hands against the table, which felt like pressing against a solid mist of smoke. "I realized it was wrong to impose my values on him! I realized it was wrong to torture him and break his spirit just because I was too stubborn to acknowledge his opinion!"

"While she went back to her adventuring party without you, I wager," the lawyer said.

    "Yes."

The lawyer's head bobbed, distilling the testimony like he had done countless times before. "Thank you, Martin. You may sit back down." He and Elizabeth watched the servants escort Martin back to his seat, where he resumed his morose task of staring down hardwood.

He then slowly and deliberately takes out his knife and cuts it off, all without uttering more than a grunt. Then he takes the marked flesh and throws it into the fire.

Of course going by his state now, that moment is probably a good distance away.

Actually, with the fact the wrath of the order will soon be coming down upon your house, what's to stop you from bringing up with the DM say... that oozemage you mentioned earlier in her own 'retardspeak' (for lack of better words) happens to alert some of the people who enjoyed working with your character of his current state, so they start trying to assemble again to get you out of this situation and ready for war if they need to be... and just happen to show up just as the first wave of order forces arrive to bring in the wife for interrogation.
Suddenly you have a declaration of war on your hands, assuming they can learn of what happened in time to say "fuck off" to the order.

I just got a brilliant idea.

Find a religion. A more balanced religion that doesn't look more favourably on either gender and ask them if you can be posessed with a celestial to help heal your mental instability. If that works then it has literally solved all your problems at once. Of course this means you might become something like a half-celestial or that something else happens to your character, but that's ok isn't it?

Could bring up one of the creatures from one of the 3e MMs that found weaker adventurers and would strike deals with them.
These spirits were totally benevolent and loved adventuring, but had no physical body of their own, so the deal would be that they would grant the would-be adventurer great abilities and power, and he puts up with a CG occasional back-seat driver living in his body who would share XP with him.
    Just a thought.

Sounds to me like the OP is going to go in the direction of developing a romance wherein the Paladin will try to atone for her sins against him, and he will slowly regain who he is.

The best thing that can happen in this situation is for the paladin to be in a position where she is about to be killed, and he's right there. Just as the one inflicting said mortal danger on the paladin is about to kill her, they'll gag for a second and look down to see a blade running through their stomach. They'll fall down, revealing the ragged husband panting, releasing his grip on the sword as the paladin just stares at him as if to ask "Why? How can you come to my aid, after all I've done to you? How can you ever forgive me?"

He'll just stand there, slightly hunched over, and an ironic grin creeps over his face as she begins to tear up. He walks over and hugs her, a tear rolling down the side of his face as well.

"I never did do what you expected me to. Let's go home."

She probably had heard about this sort of thing from the same brilliant minds at the Order who gave her the "how to break your husband" plan. In her mind, it was supposed to go "the first time after Room 101 is going to be bad, but by time two he'll start warming up and by time three it'll be like it was before, only with less backtalk".

And, you know, she probably didn't want to believe that she'd murdered her husband. Because she did; your character is pretty much an empty shell with just enough of himself left to remember what he's lost.

Don't keep playing this character, though. Start playing a character who's pretty much the pally's therapist, probably a cleric of whatever god would be most appropriate. Either a warforged or a changeling/doppleganger, so that the gender thing isn't an issue.

Alternatively, play a female relative of your now-insane character who joins the party either to force the pally to atone for torturing an innocent person until their mind snapped or to avenge the blood-debt now owed to your old character's family.

Find the most powerful and fearsome goodly divine force and let it help you. Invite it inside you and become whole again, but as something slightly different. The more your appearances and overall divine radiance you get the better.

    It's only right, Martin.

The judge's hairy brows crumpled, and his big looming mustache twitched. "Yes, yes, of course. And considering this testimony, as well as the examined evidence beforehand, I see no point in continuing any further."

They never assigned Elizabeth a lawyer. She always sat alone.

"Paladin. Stand before me and deliver your final words before sentencing."

She was crying now as she pushed herself up out of her seat. That had never happened before. Her being swam awash in sadness from the start of the dream to awakening, every single night, lingering through the daytime when she found herself re-enacting the terrible things she had done in her mind, unable to think otherwise. Elizabeth moved behind the testimony stand, her fingers curling around its edge. She felt the tears sting but tried to keep a firm look, as always. She had said different things and different passages every time she approached this stand, thinking the dream was just a random gathering of her guilty conscience. But, as time passed, the truth had dawned on her - this was a sign from her god, that she had committed grave sins and that she would continue to suffer if she didn't fully accept what she had done.

Who wanted to accept something they never wanted to experience again?

"I have no apologies to give because none can compensate for the pain and suffering I helped cause," Elizabeth said. "I know that I continue to experience this dream night after night in an attempt to show me the error of my ways. I fully agree. I have made a grave mistake in judgment...harmed the man I love for the sake of foolish beliefs."

She looked over at him, sitting there with a total lack of color. "I was wrong. I will never forget what I have done. And until the end of my days, I will never stop repenting for these sins. If it's a burden I must bear...I accept it willingly."

"She has accepted her fate," the lawyer said. "I trust the punishment will be fitting to the agreement she has entered."

    "It will," the judge said.

"Good. Now, I have one more question before your sentence."

I suppose from here, I'd like my character to recover obviously. Physically shouldn't be too hard, and once he gets in shape to where he used to be at least, the wife will probably take him with her. Mentally though is another issue though, as even leveling up doesn't effect the sanity level nor simple training or anything. It has to be slowly overtime, or in lump amounts because of certain events (the wife confessing her guilt, witnessing the squire being dismissed).

Further out though, I guess getting rid of the Order is a good plan. The only problem being, that there's only about 9 of us PC's, and Elizabeth herself, as strong as she is, is only about 90th-80th in terms of strength in the Order. Though their order numbers about 2000 or more in fighting numbers, so she's better than like 1900 of them, that's still too many to fight with just 9 of us.

As well, despite their odd social/cultural values, they do serve the church and do allot of good work, so they have allies in high places, not just the church itself.

However on our side, we have the King Elizabeth serves, the deposed kingdom of the Rogue, the band guild of the Bard, the followers and the cleric, some other places and kingdoms we've helped, and on top of that certain notorious individuals such as the ooze mage, and the revolutionary, etc...

If we sum up all our forces, we could probably combat the order and it's allies directly, but it would take much, much work to organize something like that for us, over something so seemingly trivial.

    >>13258510

Well I doubt anyone from before will work with me now, except for maybe the oozemage, although she would more than make up for the rest of them. She's just kind of hard to get ahold of/pin down.

    This.
Hell if you really want it to be a twist go all Book of Exalted Deeds on it by having the manifestation first appear as one of your character's hands becoming a flaming sword of judgment, the feathery wings and eyes of golden radiance showing up just before anyone can assuming demonic possession, however this can go in an interesting direction, whether you must permanently become one with the angel (and ultimately warping your mind to its view points, and memories), or if the union can be separated but if it is, that's permanent, and you're unsure of whether you'd return to your vegetative state or not.

Oh my god that IS brilliant. Religion would be a near-perfect stabilizing factor for what's left of his persona (and not that out the ordinary for what other victims of severe rape and spousal abuse do). Whenever the wold gets too terrifying for you to deal with, you can always take refuge in the fact that there's a god out there who's not a total dick and is going to look after you.

And he gave you some cleric levels to prove it.

    >>13258554
Yeah. No matter how much of a 'good end' this might come to, sex is likely ruined for him forever. Probably most forms of human intimacy too. This wasn't just his wife who implicitly sanctioned his torture and then raped him, this was someone who he had been adventuring with for an extended period of time and considered a very close and trusted friend in addition to a love interest. The levels of betrayal in what she did where truly staggering. All the more reason to distrust all people that try to get close to you an place all your trust in a divine source that's not about to betray you.

Maybe you should sneak off to a monastery or some such for your convalesce. Quiet abbeys are good for this kind of thing.

Yeah dude. It may sound a bit boring but I'd say go along for the ride. RP your character slowly regaining his sanity now that Pally has realized how wrong she's been. But still, he'll never be the same. Change his personality slightly once he gets better. Like he's more serious and shit and rarely laughs. Also, someone else suggested this but if he gets into any romantic situation he freaks out. He just curls up into the fetal position and wont budge. RPing the slow and painful healing process between your character and the pally should be hella fun.

    >implying the fact that the 80th or 90th strongest member of a 2,000 strong army seeing the order as badwrongevil and abandoning its ways isn't going to be a HUGE FUCKING DEAL to the order, especially if she has any social standing that would allow a lot of people to know of this departure.

In essence: while it seems trivial that it's only your character's issue starting it all, due to the power players involved, it can EASILY snowball into something huge, and in all likelihood will. This could, of course, be different if your DM doesn't like to think of things in those terms.

Total war, while should not be hoped for, should be planned for considering the circumstances.
As you'd rather go out with your soldiers and allies in a blaze of glory attempting to take out an oppressive force, instead of being killed in the night when the enforces of the church show up to make examples.

If you DO get possesed by an angel, make sure to go the "Destroyed Mind" route. Leave nothing of the old character.

Imagine it: The paladin goes to find her husband, hearing that he entered a cloister, intending to apologize for everything. She sees him, kneeling at an altar, praying. She rushes over to him, sweeps him into her arm, and blurts out how sorry she is, how it was all a mistake, and how she realizes that men and women are equal.
He looks at her, his eyes aflame, and says: "I'm sorry, who are you, again?"

    Add one twist.

The old character's mind and soul are gone. Forever. They died when they accepted the possession.

Make it clear that this choice was because the broken ruin that was once a man was no longer capable of thinking of any other way to help the woman he still loved.

Who needs sanity? Become berserker, turn your sanity into rage with a hellish shriek as you disembowel your enemies.

The paladin then becomes a chain to the last bits of your sanity. She desperately tries to hold on to you as your rage in battle becomes more and more vicious, leaving you a quivering husk after the clash. And in trying to hold on to the love you used to have, you manage to maintain your own little warped sliver of sanity.

I can't help but wonder how the rest of the party will react or have already reacted to what she's done to you, though. I can just see them berating her over it as she starts to get emotional, and then they're all silenced by the meek voice of a man who has been broken and tortured timidly standing up for her in his own little way.

"She regrets it. Isn't that enough for you?"

As hardcore as I imagine the head maid is, there's still probably plenty who could kick her ass. Those inquisitor-types, for example.

But the Paladin probably doesn't need to war against the Order up to their destruction. She just needs to beat them back enough for them to consider her not worth pursuing any longer. Some more potential allies you could probably find, though, are other former-members of the Order who have managed to find a way out, as well as existing members who may have doubts that the Paladin can influence.

Elizabeth's eyes widened. He had never said that before.

"The Lord always watches his children," the lawyer said, walking towards her, his steps now resounding. "When they do good...when they do evil." He balanced the two ideas like invisible weights with his hands. "And he never forgets. No matter how much good they do...he never forgets everything else."

"Wh-what are you talking about?" Elizabeth asked. "I exposed the order! I saved Martin from madness!"

"Yes," the lawyer said, flashing a big, patronizing smile. "You did! And you were cut down later, remember? Your order wasn't entirely innocent. Some of them didn't deserve to be paladins, especially considering their use of torture and poison and assassins."

Elizabeth's foot shuffled back. "Then I...I'm dead?"

The lawyer nodded. "For quite a while. The departed can't move on until they accept and pay for their sins. The Lord welcomes everyone by his side, but not until they've paid penance. That's just how it works, I'm afraid. Penance equivalent to the sins dealt in life."

"Then it's over. If you're ending this dream, then that means I've gone through penance."

"You have not," the lawyer said. "You've accepted your sins willingly. The dream was meant to show you that. Penance is next." He laid a cold hand on her shoulder. "The Lord never forgets, though. The atonement you've enacted out of your own will during life will count towards that. You will be by the Lord's side soon enough."

You do realize you're advocating total character death, the one thing the OP said he absolutely did NOT want to do, right?
On that note, if he changes his mind about not wanting to go that route, that's when through the help of a trusted other prior to the possession you have a heartfelt note written out, even if the language used is broken from not being used to making complete comprehensible thoughts.
Alternatively the angel-bonded character assures her that his soul has found the only happiness it could hope for by becoming a part of the greater gestalt and giving up its individuality and all the pain that came with it.

    This.

Also basing off of the slow recovery as well as angel possession, let's say he does discover religion through all of this?
What's to say the possession of a guardian angel of sorts isn't slow and partial, his mind slowly getting better as his wounds start to heal faster, the final signs before full recovery being the grand burning from his flesh in the kind of grayflames that only appear when wickedness is burned away, the mental form having returned (thought slightly altered in personality), and much stronger (on par if not stronger than the other characters), granting you a returned character.
Of course by slow return, I mean he's still going through the many hassles of everyday life as only someone who has been truly broken can go through, but he's slowly making progress as the paladin cares for him and tries to return him to who he once was, opening his heart and, as a side-effect, letting the angel in.

Again, not the best way to play it. Better he stick around and still not forgive the paladin for what she did. Every time they're in the same room he need still be there, body AND mind, not letting her move on from that emotionally or otherwise.

And they're still married. He's not walking away from that either, which would make thing a bit harder for her to move on even they DO come to an amicable end to their romantic relationship.

The judge banged his gavel. "Guilty."

A spark of flame danced on his skin, and it suddenly erupted into wildfire. It whisked down the judge's body, across the floor, and the judge and the congregation, the furniture hall, was engulfed in scarlet fire that shone against the light.

"Full punishment," the judge intoned, the fire blackening his flesh, dissolving it into a putrid mist.

The lawyer stepped in front of Elizabeth, framed her face in his hands. "You must remember," he said, the flame overtaking him, melting his skin, his clothing. "It's for the greater good."

So when he is confronted by the badong paladin order he becomes something else entirely in mind, possibly having this show out from his body and with a voice change.

If I were to go the "sell soul" route for healing, I think I'd want to do it like that guy from the other thread based on this did.

Where the character in his weakened state attracts the attention of a demoness. She consoles him and rehabilitates him, she promises to take care of him and never lies to him. In fact she's so kind and caring that he mistakes her for a guardian angel or his conscience. As such no one is suspicious when he responds as to how he got better or survived a sure-to-die situation, "It was my guardian angel!"

But through and through it all, the demoness is just working to corrupt his mind and body and as she gains power he decays more and more. Eventually his body is turned into a gate through which her and her friends can enter this plane, and he just serves as her pet from there on out. Maybe new wife, to pervert the relationship he had with Elizabeth.

And what more, it makes sense, if he's going to have a hand in putting down the Order and parts of the church, which would allow the demoness to thrive.

The biggest issue I can see with this is the fact that if demonic taint is found it may be twisted by the church to have her think that this possession was clearly much longer lasting than it actually was, and all the mental torment she went through was all some demon's ruse.
As well as put her own judgments in serious doubt as her slept with said demonic tainted person, multiple times. So my guess would be that it would cause her to either become much more resolved in her original faith than she was before the most recent events you mentioned in this thread, or warp her down the path of a church inquisitor determined to get rid of the taint and curse others like they cursed you.
By far this is the worst end one can ask for.

However if you prefer that over celestial possession, perhaps possession should not be considered at all.

Well, the important part is the whole "not mending" thing.

And frankly, the real reason for OP's character to die, or even be outright obliterated (well, his mind and soul anyway) is to make sure that the paladin can't fix this. Ever. No matter how much she might want to, she's never going to get the chance to atone to the husband she destroyed. She's never going to be able to ask him to forgive her, she's never going to hear his answer, she's never going to have closure for her sins.

What are you doing when you are not dealing with all of this character drama? As immersive as it is, I doubt the main plot of the campaign was get "one dude married and then have him deal with wife problems".

On the finding god front, what do you think of the cleric path idea, and are there any conveniently available faiths for that?

Doesn't really factor much into play, it's just a motivating/driving force in the setting and for people.

Quite similar to real life really, it's what people believe in and can motivate them.

    >>13259035

It was never months really, except until the recent bout of downtime.

So my guy made his big return, and ended the quest. Que downtime when the wife dragged me home, and got the inquisitors to order her to rape my guy. Back to adventuring right after.

Then they finish another quest, she gets home, gets to seeing what he's become, tries loving and sexing him back to normal. About this time they start adventuring but she stays behind, and around the time she goes to remain in her room they need her and send the squire.

The happenings between Martin and Elizabeth are separate games from the main campaign/game. In the main campaign game I play like the worst and most hated character ever, to get the other players to want my old guy back. Not intentionally do I play it like that, the character has just ended up being like that.

    ---

As for the whole angel possession thing, I'm not really interested in doing, partly because it turns religion/cosmic powers into something they haven't been in the game, it would be strange to do so, but also partly because I've never really played a character like that, so don't think it would turn out well.

Also some other reason but I forgot.

Yeah that's ok. No need to push you into things the setting (and you) aren't liable to feel comfortable with. If you got something like that to say just say it.

Just promise me you won't go "lol evil with demons rofl" more than you would go "lol good with celestials rofl". Because if there ARE demons in the world then there are most certainly also divine beings to help.

And even if you haven't roleplayed something before, the only way to find out how good you are at it would be to try.

I just really really REALLY dislike the idea of turning evil just because you have the chance now. This is the time to go full on good and try to make sure that evil people like the ones that broke you never stay in a place of power in the world any longer.

And going evil would prove the paladin order right in their ways. Do you want them to be right? No of course you don't.

Guy who suggested becoming the manipulator here.

This is why I think he should still love his wife, but go after the Order like the French goddamn resistance. She needs to understand that, though he's not going to pointlessly antagonize her, he has been wronged in every spiritual, emotional, and physical sense, and he is not going to stop fighting until the system that breeds complacency with such injustice feels exactly what he felt, with interest.

Sure, going HURR DURR AHM EVIL NOW isn't the right way to handle it, but nor is becoming a virtuous moral center of forgiveness and peace. That just reeks of MORE complacency.

    >In the main campaign game I play like the worst and most hated character ever
That is just not possible. What little you have told me about the bard has already reduced me to frothing rage with regards to his character. I'm not sure what would happen if you actaully told me about him in depth, but I'm sure it has to be worse than the other guy you are playing now.

Unfortunately, despite what you may think, the body can respond even when you don't want it to, and even when you would think it would have no reason to.
That's why a lot of rape fantasies involve the guy pointing out the girl is clearly enjoying it, because despite her mental state, there's only so much the body can take before it gives into its biological functions.
This is also part of why rape is so brutal to the psyche, as it shows you really have no control over what others do to you and even over your own bodily functions.

If he does get better, though, he can't reveal it too early. When and if he starts doing some real damage to the Order, he needs to have the deniability of being effectively comatose. Only once he's started to gain the upper hand can he drop the ruse and take responsibility.

The religion idea brings an interesting situation. This all started due to her devotion to her faith The Order. Perhaps he finds his own religion not just for his own sake but to UNDERSTAND her. Perhaps by diving into some form of faith he would be able to discover what motivated her to do what she did. Whether that ends up as good or bad thing depends on who he worships which is up to you. At best it could lead to him fully forgiving her and moving on with his life. At worst it could lead to the worship of a dark God that is fueled by his sorrow ultimately leading to him sacrificing his humanity for power but at the same time realizing that no matter how much he hated her he still loved her, and she loved him in her own way.

I figure just patience, and persistence. She's not short on endurance, so it's up to her really how long they take together. As in, does she have the patience and/or persistence to sit there and hump away until the necessary moment? A situation like this, I imagine she would, even if it took hours. It's fantasy after all.

As for how she actually did it, there was never really opposition to her. First time was alone in a basement after torture, second time was alone in a bedroom after dinner and attempt making out, third time well, if the descriptions are to be believed, she more or less just picked him up and kept him suspended pressed against her as necessary, as he didn't receive any injury from the third time.

Sometimes when I take a peek outside of my little cage,

And it kills my brain to think of all the time I wasted here
All the efforts, sweat, and broken hearts, the screaming and the tears
And I'm dreaming again . . . Floating in a pool of mud
Try to get back where I was and I don't really care
Got a little talking to, by the mirror in my room, and I don't really care . . .
Whispering voices from the dead, come from underneath my bed
    And I don't really care . . .
I like my stupid life just the way it is
And the chaos that surrounds me like a flock of screaming pigs
And it hurts my brain to think of all the stupid things I've said

No exact idea really, given that I don't know what the wife went off to do.

But assumedly, my guy will start trying to get better, eat more rest more, take more effective healing for his back, etc... so that at least physically he's at the same place he was before being forced into staying home.

After that is just mental recovery, which will happen overtime but not enough. To be more effective, I aim to have the wife take me with her next time, adventuring with the party. Even if my guy can't do any fighting or just watches (worst case, paladin just keeps him in a backpack), simply witnessing events and the main campaign again will invariably cause him to gain sanity again, even more if the wife is actually kind to him again.

Once a decent level of mental fortitude is reached, then my guy can start leveling like normal again. This way, all the healing desired is achieved without use of artifacts or celestial beings, or dark pacts or whatever, and allows for continued play in the main campaign as well as continued characterization and development between the wife, and other characters. The question is how to play that characterization, specifically with the wife. Things like her trying for sex again are obvious to respond to, but other things might prove difficult or interesting.

I would imagine by then, that if we haven't already rejected or taken to fighting the Order, that we would be in a good position to start doing so, or step it up.

I'll probably start a dedicated writefaggotry thread once I've written out the new story I've got in mind. I'll pad it out with La Serpiente as well.

Also before anyone asks, even if she gets all rapey again, or just coerces my non-responsive guy, there's no chance of her getting pregnant. Since the torture/rape, she's been taking potions or drugs or whatever to prevent it, without the knowledge of the Order.

To quote her, she's simply not ready for children, or to give up this life yet (ignoring or unaware of the fact that she could very easily saddle my guy with the kids and she could keep on adventuring).

So theoretically they could be sleeping together like rabbits, if for no other reason than combat bonuses, but as made abundantly clear already, even sex for procreation will likely never be something to arise between the two. If so then being a long and complicated process, marked with failure.

Once your character regains some sanity what are you planning on doing with the brand on his left pec? (How big is it btw? Like just his pec or the whole left side of his chest?)

Realistically it'd make sense to remove it, but I figure it might be more dramatic if it's just left there, rather than like skinning himself to remove it. Maybe see if the paladin ever is driven to remove it herself out of madness. Plus, at least initially, it acts as a nice guilt-tripper as well as deterrent if she tries to get frisky.

Size-wise about the size of an outstretched hand.

Yeah that's some good RP fodder. Judging by the chick playing the pally it'll make for an interesting story.
Well, it's midnight and I need to go to bed. Thanks for the update OP, can't wait for the next one.

No prob. People want to wait till something happens in the game before the next thread, don't know how long that will be, but I'll be sure to update.

To be blunt, Martin maybe goes back to adventuring. Mentally and physically gets to a point where he can function. But man...that marriage is over. The woman Martin loved doesn't exist. She was a mental figment he built around what he saw. So, yeah....once he gets mentally back on his feet, he really needs to let her know that, no, he doesn't want to make the marriage work, and he REALLY does not want to be in her life. Not as a friend, not as a fellow adventure. Not as a passing acquaintance.

Because that is what a SANE man, which you can hope to reach at some point, does. He does not stay with a woman who lets that happen to her husband she supposedly loves. That is bullshit, and there is no happy ending here. Just an ending, and a new beginning for Martin somewhere else...Or you can stay insane and just go with it.

And if he remains insane he can take the suicide route, fucking over everyone who has ever cared about him.

Ask your DM if there's any way to make up the exp gap between you and the others, an offscreen sidequest or something.

So will your character, once sane enough to actually make such decisions, ever forgive his wife? (It's not that unlikely, battered spouses crawl back all the time, and if she's taking care of him while he recovers mentally he might develop a psychological dependence on her) And if he does will he harbor hidden resentment?
    >> Anonymous 12/23/10(Thu)03:18 No.13261998
A small defense of the first rape: a lot of definitions of rape and sexual abuse do consider being forced to rape/abuse someone else under some sort of coercion to be a rape of both the victim and the person being coerced to rape them.

There's not really any defending the following two times though.

No, I would imagine he would never forgive her. However neither do I think he would be prompted to take revenge. She sought the help of strangers to come into their house and regulate their lives, when he didn't want to live how she was forcing him.

Is it something that can be healed? No, both of them will bear the scars their whole lives for her foolishness. But it is something they will have to deal with nonetheless. She may not suffer a lasting effect to the extent her husband has, but even if things go wonderfully for the two of them and all their hopes and dreams come true and they get over it and become a loving couple again, she will never be able to look at Martin again without being reminded of that hateful thing she committed. She could be woken up with a smile and breakfast in bed, she could see a scene of her husband and children playing in a park together, or see the pair of them as old people reading before a fire. As good as it could ever be, that time and mistake will loom overhead like the proverbial Damoclean sword.

Whether or not this means they stay together, or married or friends or lovers, remains to be seen.

Yes just as well, not defending anything but she was forced more or less into her actions. It's true she could perhaps have tried to fight it or resist, but she didn't want to risk their lives, for something she believed at the time to be generally correct.

Plus it would be a lie to say she didn't want it at least somewhat, and for things to be "better".

Is she a bear? Or better yet, is your guy made of rubber? How did he survive three times?
