Hey /tg/. I guess I'm doing another Pokemon: Tabletop Adventures update thread.

I am entirely done with class features. That leaves the bestiary to finish, and the rules to type up in a sensible manner. Then, Beta is good to go.

I'll post the list of Classes and Advanced Classes if anyone wants more information about any of them in a second.

Like always, any questions about anything are welcome and if there are any things you want to see in this game do not hesitate to say so.

Legendaries are completely catchable when handled correctly, but their loyalty is virtually unbendable.

As soon as you send out a captured god, they'll likely about face and kill you.

Allying with legendaries is possible, but summoning them to the field of battle for your sake is not easy. It's unlikely that during play you'd even meet a legendary pokemon unless your GM hates you or it is the BBEG, or major world ending threat.

Indeed. Fucker makes the best BBEG ever. Have him catch other legendaries for a truly epic story.

    >>7379446
That seems a bit unfair to me, especially since legendary power levels are diverse (how good they are competitively notwithstanding).

It's been implied at times that a trainer could catch and raise, say, Articuno the same it could any other particularly rare pokemon.

Battles play very differently. Since a party will have 2 to 5 trainers, they'll each have a pokemon out. Wild encounters look like this:

    x5 Pidgey
    x2 Pidgeotto
    x1 Pidgeot

and during a round of combat, fastest pokemon go first, move around on the field and attack. Each Move from the games has been translated to tabletop format. Request any move and I'll post it here.

Trainers, during wild encounters, also get involved by supporting their pokemon or if you are a Psychic or Martial Artist, attacking the wild yourself.

That brings up an interesting question!

Are the legendary gerbils and golems unique in this or not? The background behind the gerbils would make me lean towards them being so, but it's a possibility. Likewise, the golems show up in two regions but why would they make copies of the keys to Regigigas and just leave them laying around?

If it's restricted to first gen, yes, but...The show continuity and maybe the comic continuity has said that there are multiples of the legendary birds and 4th gen has them show up in Sinnoh--which would lead to the question of why they fly all that way if there is only one of each.

Many pokemon are used as mounts for land, sea and sky.
If a pokemon can be used for any of these, it says so in their pokedex entry. You do NOT need to know the Move Fly.

Fly is a special maneuver during battle, flying is something many pokemon can do.
For example, Metagross can fly, but it can't use Fly.

There are rules related to mounts, but generally you are not on them during battle. Riders, a Ranger Advanced Class, can do battle while mounted and specialize in mounted tricks.

    >>7379567
    >>7379557
Rules like that are up to your GM. I'm not going to say you can't play with the system I'm making a certain way. I'm making gameplay rules, not settings rule - only suggestions.

    >>7379582
Pokemon will not gain exp unless they are learning something. Switching out mid battle will give exp but will not promote their confidence. For example, if you keep switching out that Magikarp just to gain exp, it will be sad that you have no faith in and be unable to evolve.

Gym matches require 3 vs 3 in the basic world rules.
Though if your GM allows it, trucking through with only 1 pokemon is plausible, but boring.

    >>7379643
That's a bit of a misconception. Few pokemon truly and honestly suck when fully evolved. From the perspective of OU IS THE BESTEST TIER AND THE ONLY ONE EVER then yes, but it's called overused for a reason. The pokes there are above average, yet are for some reason considered the average.

A lot of NUs work in UU too.

Maybe the pokeball beams the information into their brain, and all the exp. share just makes it so the pokeball doesn't have to "take a picture" of the fight first by sending it out?

To those arguing tiers - they don't really exist in the tabletop just to let you know. The trainer's abilities can augment pokemon to make many different things out of a single pokemon.

If you feel like your laughably small brained fans will explode at the idea of making their own character however they like than toss a bunch of prebuilt packages in there,

Doctor, is there any mechanic or some sort of bonus/synergy for having your team follow a theme?

Also, have your alpha battles been taking a while? With multiple players that have teams of 6 pokes each, it seems like it could take some time.

There are several Advanced Classes where you can get Type bonuses.

As for combat, the battles don't take any longer then any other battle in another game. Usually players will use one pokemon for an encounter and let them rest until the next center since they'll be damaged. Players will need to use the rest of their team to get through the miles between rest points. However, short rests can help pokemon stand another battle. Staying in forests overnight is a bad idea though. Pic related.

No one is forcing you to play or even look at it. If someone wants to play a game, let them play. I'm not forcing it on anyone. Generally there is no need for aiming at a specific spot on pokemon but if you aimed for a specific part, a higher Accuracy Check would be needed.

    However, this Feat is related:
Aim For the Horn!: Trainer Feature
    Prerequisites: Pokemon Trainer, WIS 13
Daily – Every 4 levels gained, you may perform this Feature another time per day.
Target: Your pokemon targeting with a Move.
Effect: On a roll of 19 or 20 during Accuracy Check, your pokemon’s attack will deal Neutral damage regardless of immunities or resistances.

I think Ash's Pikachu just has high stats in its attacks and speed. I'm not sure if it can take a hit. You can raise specific stats in the tabletop and ignore other stats you don't care about to customize your pokemon.

Several starters are found in the wild. It's up to your GM to spawn them.

If you dex a pokemon, the pokedex can tell you the pokemon's habitat, but specific areas aren't just given to palyers. However, talking to NPCs about 'hey, what's in that forest outside of town?' can help here and there.

Yes. Commonly when I am using criminals against my players, their primary targets are the Players, not the pokemon.

Even wilds will target trainers more often then their pokemon.

Interception is common, trainers dodging a pokemon is less common.

Wilds will not wait for you to send out a pokemon either. When a wild Charizard sees you, it's not thinking "I'll wait for them to send out a pokemon so we can 'battle'" it's thinking "Oh look, breakfast"

Another thing about that is that wild pokemon must either be killed or captured. Felling a wild is not enough, they will keep coming at you or run away early. There is 'fainting' but if you pokemon is lowered too far into -HP%, you'll need to make a death savings throw. Pokemon die.

6 pokemon on your person. Sign up for a PC account for more. HM slaves don't exist. If your pokemon can swim and hold you up, you have water transportation. If your pokemon can climb with you on it's back, you can do that too.

Ragrding the evolution mechanic, it has gone from a rigid level/happiness/evolution-stone mechanic, to a far more lucid, play-it-by-ear method.

For example, a GM may rule that an eevee struck by a thunder attack that would otherwise kill it for good, instead re-actively evolved into a jolteon to save its own life. Or, that because a trainer never lets his caterpie finish a fight, and instead switches it out mid-battle for someone else to finish (and split the exp), that is has low self-esteem, and probably won't evolve for a while, even though its level is high enough to.

While purely cosmetic at the moment, shinnies make good Contest Competitors and sell very well.

The single shiny pokemon my Alpha team found, a Tauros, was immediately sold for cash.

I'll be making a template eventually. It's just not a top priority at the moment since they are so rare.

Money and means for your trainer to level up.

Game Mechanic wise, the Pokedex is a means to level up. Trainer gain levels not through EXP, but by events.
Badges, Ribbons and Medals gain a trainer a level. Every 25 pokedex scans gain you a level. Every 10 pokemon you record as owned in your dex gains you 1 level. If you do something really amazing and noteworthy, your GM can give you a level.

One of them got a broken arm.
They realized it was protecting its nest which is why it bothered to attack them.
Then they raided it's nest and got some Pidgey eggs.

wouldn't it be just like real life in that some places have deadlier shit than others? besides, I would assume you would only actively look for the high-level stuff when you can take it on anyway.

Think of this this way: you could live in a peaceful north america-like area, nothing put some mild pest problems (low level bugs, ratatta etc.) but head deep enough into the forest then you might run into wolves or a bear or something (ursaring, mightyenna, etc).

Similarly, you could live in a place like Australia, filled with Khangaskan and various poisonous motherfuckers. Sure, there'll only be weaker ones around the populated areas (mostly due to the people in said area catching/killing anything that's too much of a threat), but head deep enough into the wild and shit will fuck you up.

I know this is pretty trivial, but will the biologically and physically impossible aspects of the game be retconned out, or will they just be considered things that are possible in the Pokemon world but not in ours? Plants breeding with animals, Wailord's weight, endless supplies of water for moves like Water Gun, etc. Sorry if you've already answered this in a previous thread.

Also as far as the pokedex ordering goes, I had a bit of a hard time finding a place for Unown, Eevee's, and Hitmons. So I just stuck them where they are now, closest thing to a place where they fit in. Wasn't sure if you might want to fix that.

Impossible breeding - skitty wailord - retconned out.
Wailord weight is still canon. Sending out a Wailord indoors (not in an official stadium built for battle) is suicidal, it'll probably kill you, and illegal.
Water pokemon need to drink a lot of water to allow them to use their water attacks. They have organs that allow them to preform what is basically magic though.

    That's shit.

    I mean, that's really shit.

This'll probably get ignored, but I always figured: there's enough similar DNA for 'mon to interbreed. The offspring takes the form of the mother, which makes sense biologically. It's either live birth or eggs depending on the type of the species (so, say, growlithe and kangaskhan give birth to live cubs / joeys being mamallian and marsupial, and pidgeot and charmeleon lay eggs, being avian and reptile). I don't know what's going on with rock and steel-types that are obviously inorganic, as opposed to lucario and scizor and similar.

I suppose you could work out a map depending on breeding patterns, but that would look worse than a London Underground map with a game of Mornington Crescent traced on in rainbow markers.

There ARE male kangaskhan. That shit is bananas.

Most of the stuff in the games and anime is oversimplified or otherwise dumbed down for children so that their parents don't complain about talking about animals fucking, or whatever.

I can just imagine the damage it could do. We are talking about a pokemon that is literally the embodiment of the universe not working the way it is supposed to. Space might start to warp around it.

Your players run into Missingno and before they can attack, it disappears. Obviously, don't tell them exactly what it was just yet. Next time they send out their pokemon, they find that some of them have devolved, some show no signs of change but have had their stats radically altered (might not discover this until they realize that Water Gun is doing a hell of a lot less damage than it should be, or that Golem is fainting at a single Body Slam).

Or they run into it, battle, and it runs. They pursue it only to find themselves back in a town they know is miles away from where they were, and suddenly everyone but them speaks gibberish that only they don't understand.

For some reason the holder series comes to mind.

On a dark night with a new moon in january, an old man will ask if you'd like to see how to catch a pokemon. You must tell him yes. If you still have second thoughts, you may tell him no, though he may still haunt your dreams for 666 days.

You must watch the old man intently as he demonstrates this process, and you must not leave or look away until he is finished. As soon as he is done, you must fly away to a coastal city as quickly as possible. If you do not, the old man will knock you unconscious, where you will be taken into the woods, raped, and eaten.

Once you are there, quickly leave the city and travel the coast. A strange pokemon will appear. Do not move. It will reach into your bag and take an item out. Let it. If you display any fear or anger it in any way, your save data will become corrupted. When it is gone, leave as quickly as possible, and you will find that your bag is overflowing with the item the pokemon took... just be careful the next time you visit the hall of fame...

Now 'M on the other hand. He fucks shit up.

Then there is Charizard 'M, Any pokemon that looks at it imediatly turn's into a Charizard 'M. If there is one in your party, your entire party turn's into Charizard 'M. The important thing to remember is that, unlike Cthulu or other cosmic horrors, Missingno is not in and of itself evil. It is merely a manifestation of the universe not functioning properly. It is neither good nor evil. It simply is.

According to Bulbapedia, the ones that do evolve tend to either evolve into other glitch pokemon, or they evolve into real pokemon. 3TrainerPoké for example evolves into Kangaskhan at level 1, or Clefairy at level 128. There's another one that evolves into Charizard at level 209, and one that evolves into something or other at 255.

Which reminds me, that's another thing that needs to be taken into account. Glitches that are technically real Pokemon, but have impossible stats and levels. Lv 138 Golduck anyone?

So, what, entire forums that sit around all day, posting, trying to invoke the only purely digitized species/line of pokémon on their home computers?

    ...

So, 4chan, but with a purpose, then. Might work as an enemy leader. Succeeds as you walk into the room, during the battle hacks into an online database of information of energy patterns of specific moves and abilities, changing its attack patterns to suit the situation. Or maybe he harries you from some other continent digitally transmitting his porygon to whatever place you're in and transferring attacks to it over broadband/wireless.

Actually, there -is- a method that major size-difference breeding could occur.

That is, if Pokemon breed like amphibians rather than mammals. Considering they lay eggs, it's reasonable. That is, male sperm packet + female infertile laid eggs = fertilized pokemon egg, which'll hatch after X amount of time.

It's pretty darn obvious that they do, if you think about it.

Nobody sees Pokemon engaging in any kind of mating behaviour, per se. They don't give birth. You just find eggs when Pokemon are kept together, usually faster if they're friendly. They're even capable of cross-"species" progeny, especially Dittos.

Odds are what happens is that if an egg is fertilized, it proceeds to rapidly cannibalize the rest of the sperm packet for energy and materials to form a hard shell around the Pokemon ova, which leaves you with a hard-shelled egg that popped up seemingly out of nowhere...but would disintergrate quickly if there was nothing to fertilized/be fertilized by. Such speedy "creation" wouldn't be all that far-fetched, considering how much mass a Pokemon can put on going from one evolutionary stage to another.

You have the same problem that EVERY pokemon homebrew has.

NO ONE WANTS TO STAT THE POKEMON

which is exactly what should have been done first. How the hell can you expect your classes to be balanced when the thing they focus on was written afterward.

thats like if you wrote a spellcasting class, and then wrote the spells.

Hai gaiz. Beta tester here. You'll spend more time deciding on feats for your warrior in DnD than you will on writing down a pokemon's stats. It's simple. There's a base, and things like natures modify it. Moves are static unless there are existing egg moves, TMs (ie: if the pokemon was received in a trade), deciding the ability is simple enough and is predetermined via said pokemon, etc;etc.

tl;dr: sorry you have to write in tabletop games.

It's not that much work, and you become interested in the development of each of your individual pokemon akin to how you would a character in any other game. If you're lazy, shoot yourself.

    >>7382016

It's easy enough to do stats. If they're lazy, they can run balanced builds that take little to no thought.

'sides, if you fear that your players won't be assed, remind them that starting at lower levels lessens the work of rolling. Sound familiar, /tg/? It might be because it's the logical conclusion considering less levels to deal with obviously equals less allocation of character expansion points.

First one i tried to post. Had to move these around.

Also all of these are in the Megaup link posted in this thread.

All thats left are Hitecs Moemon, which are also included in the link, as well as an assload of awesome images.

yes they are, but there is an assload of them. and every image that stark has ever posted is in there.

and then there are still ANOTHER 5 ASSLOADS OF IMAGES.

and, yes the link is safe, however, i did get 2 errors when unzipping the file, but they were probably just a few corrupt images. nothing to worry about.
