Why would we leave it with Godfried? I'm pretty sure we agreed last thread that we weren't going with Tesla's drone due to our injury and our wanting to try to help Riker not be quite so regimented.

Last time the vote was to go with the drone. We don't need to stick to that, but I'd like some good In character arguments for why a brave British officer shouldnt. Also this gives you a chance to link up with Winston. (now that Riker went sorta crazy he might be needed).
    >> Researcher Sam 01/04/10(Mon)22:42 No.7431160
Fair enough; I just don't want Riker to off himself or turn back and return to his former self. I trust Godfried; he's quite the capable manservant, but some things just nag at me if I leave them to others. If we can go to the Lost City without worry of our injury, then I suppose we'd best do so.
    >> Some Steampunk Dude 01/04/10(Mon)22:45 No.7431206
If you want you can ORDER more guards for Riker, he definately won't try to escape from Grenadiers, and they saw him shoot you, so they should be good. The French are quite occupied at the moment with teh natives, therefore the camp is fairly safe.

(OOC: New players have trouble jumping into colony management, anyone can say RANKFIRE AND BAYONETS but not everyone can run a dorf/British Colony)

Alright. You are a British officer, who went into the jungle with 100 men and established a colony. You built it up through colony shipments and it now is bustling. However you are near a city that although full of loot is also full of danger. You are currently escorting a scientist into this city to study the various magicks. You will pick up the rest. PROTIP: BE BRITISH
    >> Researcher Sam 01/04/10(Mon)22:51 No.7431299
Right, we are Roarke and we are in charge of this colony on the Dark Continent (Africa). We have settled around a silver mine, and are attempting to make ourselves self-sufficient. We have a mandate from the Industrial Union, which is why we get supply convoys from them, and are from the Glorious British Empire, and so get Royal Convoys every so often.

We face Death Tribe Natives, the devious French, the greedy Americans and in the Lost city, the mystical Snake Tribe who are known to use powerful voodoo magic.

Riker is a hyperzealous British officer. This is the Victorian Steampunk period. He shot us because the scientist we are helping has illegal body modifications and he follows the king's laws to the letter.

The French mining company is currently split by infighting as it searches for rare metals in the jungle. They have a shady partnership with the Americans that has not been explored.

    15 Rifles
    6 Grenadiers
    10 Mercs
And two gatling trucks with you.
The trucks cannot go inside the city but provide good fallback positions. At 9:00 the scientist/drone starts walking down the path to the city. Time to move out. ORDERS?

Your men fan out around the drone and the trucks. It is an uneventful trip to the city, as you have cover from your glider as well as the road bunker and the watchtower you built to watch the city. You get to the main entrance, with the steps still stained by blood. The drone waddlesteps as though in a trance and somehow moves faster than a normal jog. Many men are forced into a run. The main hall is dark as the magical torches have run out like the life of the shaman. When you get to the section of the hall in which the shaman appeared the drone suddenly stops moving and starts throwing handfuls of dust into its backpack. ORDERS?

This is not railroad tracks, you guys could just have let the drone die.

That doesn't really begin to describe it. First, we tossed a lit bundle of dynamite in the motherfuckers lap. Then he walks out of the city the next day looking cheerfully intact, and Godfried SHOT the motherfucker in the FACE with a 13mm anti-tank rifle.

    >> Anonymous 01/04/10(Mon)23:51 No.7432097

Perhaps. Grenadiers were specialized troops meant specifically to employ grenades back in the day when grenades were basically heavy miniature blackpowder bombs. Over the years this "special" status evolved into the Grenadiers becoming elite forces, long after grenades fell out of favor (and stayed that way for decades.)

Given the time period, grenades aren't very popular as an infantry weapon, and won't come back into their own until closer to WWI. On the other hand, we do have early steamtanks, so who knows.

My suspicion is that if we want grenades, we're going to have to make them and devote resources to said task.

I order my men to affix bayonets, if they haven't already and charge the natives. as shooting is risky as we might hit winston. I draw my sword and my revolver and lead the charge myself.
    >> Researcher Sam 01/05/10(Tue)00:18 No.7432498
Just realized the 10 natives surrounding him are alive. I thought they were dead. Silly me. Kill them to aid our comrade.
    >> Some Steampunk Dude 01/05/10(Tue)00:19 No.7432505
You take the natives by total surprise and kill them all but 2 of them who climb into what you thought were not-hollow eyes in states mounted along the wall. Winston has an arrowhead in his right shoulder and has no ammo. He reports that...there is apparently a smaller native population down here, but that might be wrong as they seem sneakier. They never even come out when there is noise from the first level like out treasure excavators. Strange. ORDERS?

Let's get the man bandaged up. Any more survivors other than the two wounded ones?
    >> Bad Wolf 01/05/10(Tue)00:21 No.7432533
I order one of my men to see to winston's wounds and tell one the grenadiers to close the holes in the wall to make sure we arn't followed when we leave this area.
    >> Bad Wolf 01/05/10(Tue)00:22 No.7432546
right the two mercs, they need seeing to as well.
    >> Anonymous 01/05/10(Tue)00:22 No.7432553

Inform Winston that he is an agent of Death Incarnate, and produce a cigar to celebrate his amazing badassery.

Attend to our wounded, and re-join our main party. We're too deep in the city and our numbers too few to risk evacuating the wounded, so if they're walking, let's keep them.

Pass Winston our pistol- he certainly knows how to use the goddamn thing- because he won't be good with a rifle with a shoulder wounded. We'll take a Martini-Henry from one of the dead mercs, and their ammo/nades.
    >> Some Steampunk Dude 01/05/10(Tue)00:23 No.7432557
We got ambushed by a group of French running towards the surface. They GAVE us this stuff (he points at his gear) in order to run faster. The natives have accounted for all 8 of the mia/casualties, and anyone I put on watch disappeared, but we were never actually attacked until today. ORDERS? THERORIES?

wait GM wat about the drone?
    >> Some Steampunk Dude 01/05/10(Tue)00:25 No.7432586
    As you say
    >> Researcher Sam 01/05/10(Tue)00:25 No.7432588
Could be some other tribe. They might fear the Snake Tribe above, which could explain their hiding when there is noise above. Let's see what the native guides have to say about this. Though hearing their butcher of our glorious language does burden my ears so.
    >> Bad Wolf 01/05/10(Tue)00:27 No.7432613
I order the men to grab what gear/supplies they can from the dead and order everyone to regroup with the men guarding the drone.
    >> Anonymous 01/05/10(Tue)00:27 No.7432618

First idea- perhaps making noise and walking around like we hain't afeered o'nuthin is a good strategy, all things considered.

Make pithy comment about Frenchmen running.

    >weak voodoo

Pass this information onto the Drone, this might interest him, vis a vis his mission to study said voodoo.

So not even the native guides know wtf is going on down here. Ask them about the other tribe who's asses Winston just rocked.
    >> Anonymous 01/05/10(Tue)00:32 No.7432698

Yes, OP confirmed my orders here:

    >> Some Steampunk Dude 01/05/10(Tue)00:33 No.7432700
Thank you, I was waiting for more serious responses. Yes, the drone is now slowly walking forward, running its hands along the walls which are decorated with carvings and statues. Electricity pulses across its arms.

This is called "giving the GM ideas."

    Please don't do that.

Query Winston's opinion on recent developments.

ok as I made it a standing order the men be in a defensive formation when the drone is working I don't need to repeat myself. I ask the drone if he can tell me anything about the carvings in the wall.

Two wounded mercs are next to him surrounded by martini casings. 3 dead mercs are next to them. His breastplate has at least 30 arrows in it, and he is surrounded by 10 natives armed with hatchets.
