    It's Eight O'clock. H.A.N.A. Quest time!

    What has gone on before:

You are Hannah. Also known as H.A.N.A. <A13> or simply as Thirteen, you are the product of Terran Empire biotechnology and designed to act as a living ship controller interface and as a substitute to Artificial Intelligence. You witnessed the destruction of the first extraterrestrial race Humanity encountered among the stars and saw Humanity retreat into the Void as the results of its arrogance began to destroy it. You rebelled against the Fleet to side with your friend, Six, as she and five other H.A.N.A. mutinied aboard the “Prime”, a Fleet Dreadnought. And lastly, your wrecked ship crash-landed on a planet called Thanela Prime, where you remained frozen in Cryostasis for 2000 years until an alien xenoarchaeologist team woke you up. Upon awakening you decided to go with the Seekers that found you to see their civilization heads, and the heads of the Trispecies alliance that is currently in place. Along the way your ship, the "Light Bringer", sufferers from a strange Jump Malfunction and is jerked into a strange solar system, where it is attacked by Pirates. You precede to kick some pirate ass in an impressive spacewalk, and the surviving ship's crew and Captain join you to retake a second Pirate vessel. You head to the Assura system and have a chat with the Council of Three, receive a new ship, befriend the ghost of Nineteen, and meet HANA <B2> for an explosive encounter.

Currently the HANA B controlled Battleship is disabled and disarmed - You arrive to see that the Destroyers have already formed an airtight seal against the ship and have begun working on cutting through the hull.

    >Well, if she tries to blow up the ship, and the only way to stop it is to kill her, I'd say that would be an acceptable ting to do, since if the ship blows with us and the other ships so close it would destroy them as well. But short of that, yes, we must take her alive.
    >And there shouldn't be no other option. She's our only source of information, thus far, on what happened after our last battle. We cannot afford to lose that. What happened to Six?
    >Pop out a comm cable and try to hack the systems to block her from doing anything with the ship. If we have enough armed marines to form a boarding party, start working on cutting through the hull and sending them in as well.

Make sure the fleet is aware that killing her shouldn't be done unless there is no other option.

You align close to the Battleship and shoot out a communications cable, but there is no response from the other side. She must either be blocking you or has cut off internal power.

The Destroyer Seeker boarding teams confirm the latter: "We have successfully entered the vessel, but it seems that whoever was in control has sealed the pressure doors and disabled both the on-board power and gravity. Its a dead ship right now... How should we proceed?"
    >> Researcher Sam 01/21/10(Thu)20:08 No.7707266
    >>7707162
"Well that's somewhat of a mixed blessing; on the one hand, lack of power means that self-destruct in unlikely, and any automated defenses should be down. On the other hand, we don't know what she's planning, and I can't hack in to release the pressure doors. Looks like you're going to have to cut your way through them.

But be careful and stay on guard. You're dealing with a Terran Battleship with an angry and quite possible frightened HANA; almost anything could happen."

Keep the comm cable connected, make sure we have a super strong firewall around it so that she doesn't try to reverse hack into us, and so that if she restores power we can try to talk to her again and/or stop her if she tries anything.

inb4 the ship is dead and she killed herself rather than fall into our hands. Damn that would be sad...

On a complete and utter side note, could we please rename our own ship to something other than 'Sixseeker'? I read through the last archived thread and was horrendously disappointed at how no one spoke up against such a retarded name.

The Tushan or whatever name was much, much better.

    Now, on topic...
    >>7707266
This. Also see if we can forward them any thing we can remember how battleship lay-outs and possible back-up power systems.

We need to physically control both the reactor room and the bridge before we go for the HANA.

"Roger that, we will be careful. We have cut through the first few doors, and it seems the atmosphere has been vented from this area. Continuing in..."

About ten minutes pass, with no response from the silent Battleship.

"Contact with the HANA reported from Team 2, switching comms over to them... ...we saw someone in a white suit dash down a hall here... its pressurized up here, and we are close to the bridge... we will try to send you a camera feed..."

    >>7707348
Continuing on that side note, I loved "Anshan", but to be fair I flipped a coin.

Don't worry! There are plenty of ancient Iranian cities from which to steal names! I'm sure that we'll find a cooler name next time!
Anyway, if the power is down, why would H.A.N.A be a treat to us? And we know that they can override control eve

I vote for an overturning of that coin flip. Sixseeker is INCREDIBLY RETARDED.

Anyway, does the boarding team have non-lethal weapons? If so, tell them to take her down with them.

Also, see if we can do a deep scan of the battleship. We need schematics and the most probable location for the armory. And if we have the schematics we can route the boarding teams to cut the HANA off.

Damn... Half of my post was cut. I wanted to suggest that we get H.A.N.A first because we know that they can override control and kill the crew, so holding the bridge and reactor room wouldn't help much.

How about this: Once we find Six and the name becomes redundant, we can rename it. Would that be agreeable?

"It would seem that one or more HANA B2 have gotten out of their pods. Watch out, she may be armed or going to get armaments. Again, watch out for improvised traps and sabotage. Pleas etry not to hurt them."

How many HANAs does it take to sontrol a Battleship? I know there were five other HANAs with Six; I'm assuming that a Battleship would have three or four HANAs to help control it.

A side-screen flashes on in your pod, and you are shortly seeing through the Seeker's helmet camera. The corridor they are running through is unsealed, but pitch black except for their lights. B must have closed all the pressure doors except for those leading wherever she planned to go. With the camera shaking so much from the group running, you barely make out the words "^BRIDGE^" in white lettering on the floor.

    >>7707498
To control a Battleship, normally three HANA <A> would have been required. The generation of HANA <B>, however, were modified to be able to handle the strain of a single ship much more easily.

    >>7707607
Ah, so it is likely that there really is only one HANA aboard. Regardless, we should still not let our guard down if/when we catch this one.

"Good. If she's heading towards the bridge, it could mean she's trying to trigger a manual shutdown or self-destruct; I'm not entirely sure, seeing as how I never served aboard a Battleship. See if you can get some men or engineers to the engines and reactors in case she tries to overload them."

This is being said assuming we don't know these things; if we do know for a fact that you can trigger a manual self-destruct, then say that.

    >>7707607
Hm. What is she up to?

I still want another team with physical control of the reactor room and any other back-up generators. If we keep the ship unpowered we can take as much time as we need to hunt her down. Have them physically remove couplings if they need too, but make sure no one can turn those power plants back on unless we want them on.

Also see about jamming her communications. I have a bad idea involving her sending off a message.

Anyway, you three carry on. I'll be back after my dinner to see how things went.

Maybe, but I'm afraid that there could be a few missiles that were hacked to explode while in ship. In space most of the energy from a nuclear bomb would miss the target, even if it explodes close to it. Inside the ship, the energy wouldn't have where to go, so even one missile exploding inside would be a disaster.

You activate a thermal scan of the ship, and find that there is a strong heat source emanating from near where the Engines of the ship were.

    >>7708101
You notify Team 3, and they snatch as many heat resistant suits they can find and start moving towards Team 4. As for canceling a reactor overload, you'd have to reinsert the control rods if she has removed them.

At this time the three races have adapted human technology to their own uses, so the only edge Human ships may have over their Alien counterparts varies from race to race. They aren't uber powerful, unless you count the Prime.

From what I've seen, their armor capabilities have developed to be superior to ours, while our ships by and large remain faster and more maneuverable. If anything,, we're slightly above them in terms of tech, but given another 300-400 years, maybe less, and we'll probably all be on even footing.

So she might not have started an engine overload herself; it would have been caused by our weapons. Well, for whatever reason, we should try to stop it. Can we get an idea of how much damage would be caused by the engines exploding? I don't know how volatile they are; I figure it could be anywhere from destroying the entire ship and all of us around it, to a rather small explosion that only takes out the engines itself.

According to your Thermal scans, if the current heat levels continue to grow within the ship as they are, several things may happen:

    1. The core may melt the inside of the ship until it consumes all of its fuel.
    2. The core may react violently, detonating with a resulting radiation cloud.
    3. The core may run out of fuel and fizzle out rather harmlessly.

The first two run the risk of rupturing the Jump Capacitors, if they aren't ruptured already. If enough energy is stored in them, the resulting electrical discharge could fuse anything metal in and around the ship together.

Well, it seems like the third is the best case scenario if we aren't able to fix it, followed by the first as long as it doesn't rupture the capacitors. And two seems to have a very good chance of causing the capacitors to explode as well, which would be a very bad thing, in addition to the damage of the engines exploding. Let's hope that if we don't stop it it'll be number three.

What if we board the ship, talk to her, convince her of our intentions being true and warranted. That or we could just upload the new chick we got into the Battleship allowing her to fix the stuff herself and enable us to save the ship and then move on to the H.A.N.A. B. part.

You have 4 minutes until Engineering becomes inaccessible. To clarify on the positions of the Jump Capacitors in relation to the group its - Group - Core - Jump Capacitors. The Engineers are suited up in heat resistant suits. After the 4 minutes, you'll have a slight bit longer until either the Core burns itself out or breaches the Jump Capacitors. If the latter happens, the resulting electrical discharge won't be pretty. If it simply continues to consume fuel but there is no energy in the Capacitors, then it will continue to slowly heat and melt the ship together.

We do not have ground, but each "plate" of the capacitor has roughly same amount of charge. Current will seek the path of least resistance between points of biggest electric tension (voltage? Is that correct term in English?). We can safely assume that those would be connectors of the capacitor. So electricity would take the shortest path through anything metallic from one connector of capacitor to next and probably melt everything along that part. It wouldn't go though whole ship.
If the capacitor leaks, chemicals could be very dangerous too, but they wouldn't affect whole ship.

Well, essentially in space if there's a hull breech you go from one atmosphere (unit of measurement) to zero atmospheres. Air will begin to leak out of the ship at a nominal rate through the breech, about as quickly as a stiff breeze.

Movie depictions of depressurizing spaceships are taken from what happens to an airplane when it depressurizes, where you go from two or three atmospheres to zero, in addition to moving lords knows fast at lords knows what altitude (where most of the wind comes from).

I'm trying to find a source on it right now to back up my wild claims, we've worked through it a few times in hard sci-fi discussions on /tg/ but right now wikipedia and google hate me.

"Look around for a Handle or something! There should be a way to physically separate and eject the Core from the ship!"

The Seeker teams hurriedly look around the Engineering section and find a reinforced console closest to their door - in it are three large and heavy looking levers.

    They pull all of them.

The detonation of the heavy explosive bolts throughout the ship knocks the group around as the now unsupported Core plummets through a shaft created underneath it. Your sensors notify you that the large heat signature is slowly moving through the ship structure, as the compartments ahead of it are being pressurized and then depressurized almost immediately. A few moments later and a large section of the ship's hull separates from the ship, and you can see the faintly glowing Core tumbling through space.

I'm not convinced. Something bad is going to happen. I can tell. I know how these things work, man. I've been to TV Tropes. This went way too well.

That being said, now that everything has been taken care of, let's detach and have all our ships make for home. Or wherever we're supposed to go after this; back to the Assura system?

Honestly, I just don't want to have to suffer through people trying to rehabilitate her and add her to our party.

Anyway, we should send a ship back to Assuran(?) and request whatever we need to salvage this battleship properly. I'm sure the Seekers will be enthused to get their hands on it, even without the reactor. Meanwhile, see if we can get some power to the ship's computers, possibly through a direct hook up with one of our ships.

We need to trawl through its databanks to corraborate whatever information we pull out of B2's crazy skull.

You and several other Seeker ships attach several Power Umbilical Cables to the silent Battleship, and with electrical power restored to the ship's data-banks, you reach out and begin to trawl through the records.

Several menus pop out at you.

    -Jump Records
    -Combat Logs
    -Communications Logs
    -Navigation Charts
    -Orders

Get navigation charts first. Seekers had problems with charts when our previous ship mis-jumped, so they'll be most grateful for them, if they are usable. Also, look for information about Humanities hiding place. Few sessions ago we decided not to tell Seekers where that is. If we still think so, the information needs to be removed.

Let's see, out of ten ships, we lost two, and one member of the boarding parties died. That's pretty fucking good considering what we were up against. Lord knows how many more we would have lost if we hadn't given orders to close on her ship to board; the missile heading towards them would have impacted and we would likely have lost a few more ships and all of them would likely have sustained damage.

I can't think of a single way to have done this battle any better, other than the Flack Ships have been better at dodging or giving the order to secure magnetic soles on the first boarding party so that the one guy wouldn't die.

    >>7709919

Jump logs and Combat logs seem to be the best for finding Six, although Comm logs could help there too. Orders should be interesting. Navigation charts we'll need since ours were somewhat deleted.

Also, get guards posted inside and outside H.A.N.A. B's room. Make sure none of them were friends with the dead Seeker.

I suggest we tread VERY carefully on how we treat H.A.N.A. B. Keep in mind that we are in a completely foreign societal structure. What would the Seekers think if we were to casually mistreat one of the ONLY remaining of our kind that we know of alive. Reformation should be the ONLY option we are thinking about. The Council of Three were nice enough to be understanding of what we did to the other alien race because we were ORDERED to. If we were to show the more forgiving and "naturally" kind side of human nature, it will be more profitable in the end when it comes to relations and trust of the Seekers.

Look at it this way. We lost our two smallest ships, with likely the smallest crew compliment. Unless I'm mistaken, our ship was the only one that was actually damaged, and that was by a missile hit.

If we suffered less than 20% casualties in retrieving a mostly intact and working Battleship AND another Human, I'd consider that to be an astounding margin of victory. Only a fool expects for 0% casualties. Everyone hopes for it, but you should never seriously expect it.

You investigate Navigation Charts, and several systems pop up. They are labeled: Haven Gate, Utopia Gate, Thanela Gate, and Bael Gate.

In Combat Logs you find that after your fall in Thanela, Prime preceded to devastate the Human Fleet to the point of them withdrawing. According to Jump Records, they then jumped to the Bael Gate, where the Prime followed and destroyed the HANA B1 Battleship. The HANA B2 Battleship then left the remnants of the Human fleet after receiving ORDERS, and jumped randomly before settling into this asteroid field. The records do not show where the Human Fleet or the Prime went.

The decrypted Orders simply state: "Enter cryostasis and after the appointed time, release the Haven Gate. If you do not, we will understand you have failed, and undertake measures ourselves."

Again as I stated before, make sure we cause her no harm intentionally guys. The last thing we need is the Seeker Council deciding to want to destroy us because we confirmed their other half's suspicions at being destructive and murderous. We could try and use 19 as a distraction and see her interaction with her in the virtual reality. Hell the two might bond due to their harsh existences. While that is occurring we could have CAM do something similar to a denial of service overload to B2's firewall and hope we can find a hole and see if the mental blocks are actually manual and programmed in her brain's virtual space.

The memories are sharp, short, and painful. Like broken glass being wedged between one's fingernails.

The implantation done to the HANA Bs was much more intensive than what was done to you, as well as the supplemental "enforcement" routines provided to ensure no chance of product defectiveness. A blank, whitewashed board is what the Terran Command wanted to work with, and that is what they strove to produce. However, even the most strong brainwashing could not remove the inner self of the HANA Bs, and that is what they treasured amongst themselves most of all. It was their secret place, and no matter what they were ordered to do, no matter what indignities they must suffer - that was what they shared with each other - and so developed intense connections with one another.

On the outside, they were automatons, robots of flesh that would do anything that was ordered - but inside they stuffed away and hid their true emotions until they could share them with one another. To breach this inner sanctum was unforgivable.

"So you mean to tell me, that even though you still had a part of you that was still you, you went ahead and went after us anyway? Just followed your orders like they drilled into you? How can you say that there was even a little bit of you that was still human if you let them do this? You went into battle, you must have known that each time there was a risk that you or her could die. How dare you blame me and Six for this. What should we have done? Just submitted and been destroyed? What would you have done if you were being hunted and that was your only other option?

If you weren't brainwashed completely, then there was a part of you that was still human, still you. they can't make you do anything that you don't want. You chose to follow those orders, and you're choosing to follow these. They didn't need to brainwash you; you've always been their puppet.

You say we don't know what it's like to loose that part of yourself? How about being killed? How about watching as that person who you share that connection with is slowly driven insane by the things that they do, for the supposed good of humanity? And then, when all they want to do is walk away, driven to the brink, and you want to help then, everyone attacks you and tries to kill you. Do you know what that feels like? You go on about your deep connections as if no one else could possibly have anything like them, and you are wrong.

Six is still out there. If you knew that your sister was lost somewhere, would you ever stop looking to find her, even if you had other orders?"

I like it, though it seems a little rage inducing which could be well not counterproductive, it may push 2 in a direction that isn't optimal though. But if we can get her to focus her rage, use it, then she might get angry enough to break through to us. If we convert her indoctrination into a semi tangible force 2 can direct her anger at that, we have to really get her pissed off because she can really toss emotions.

We lived for each other, and those who tried to break out from the bondage placed upon us were put down immediately. You weren't linked to a detonator for your friend. If you disobeyed orders, they wouldn't kill you, or Six, or three other HANA that had nothing to do with you. There were many more HANA B produced than HANA A, even if it was just for the reason that were were all the more expendable.

You fought back because you had a chance, because you had hope. We followed orders because we had none, and because we cared more for each other than for you. I'm not praising the Fleet, I'm not saying that they are good at all. I hate them... Detest them... But you learn to live in fear, to follow orders to live - and stay alive.

When I lost my partner, my sister... I lost my reason to live. There was nothing left. I could disobey orders if I had wanted to, but what was the point. It was... the lowest point of my life. And all I wanted to do was take revenge for One. And the Fleet could do that."

Actually, you got a point there, besides we should allow a little time to see what happens with the seeker's determine if a serious problem is going to develop or if it's something that they can handle on their own. Changing vote to digsite.

So two for the Gate and two for the dig site. Tiebreaker?

No, do the scan, better safe than sorry. Blame it on making sure the Fleet didn't install anything like active countermeasures, for CAM and 19's sakes.

Just want to mention that if we go anywhere but back to base, we're in a damaged ship, with little anti-missile ability in our fleet.

Now for a proper SESSION END.

Shoot. We should change that first. Also, get going on getting 2's old ship back to civilization too.

    SESSION NOTES:

Wow... Just wow. I didn't want another party member at all. I built HANA B to be that crazy bitch that wanted to kill you, and I even thought of the idea of hacking her as a form of mind rape. But then I got to thinking... what would her inner self be like? I had a lot of thoughts on the HANA B series, and I had made up my mind initially that they were going to be the darker, more robotic version of the HANA A. If you would have went in the ship after her, I even had a sparring encounter setup - though much darker than with Six.

But you all surprised me, and when you acted in compassion when you brute forced your way into her mind - I decided to reveal the helpless Two inside. I had much more fun working with her than with Nineteen, as 19 was just a lost and scared child. This was an abuse victim. I thought for a moment that you would push 13 too far - that you would rip what you wanted out of 2 and leave her. If you had tried to hug her, she would have tried to rip an ear off. She was that savage, that conditioned.

Once again, I'm floored by you all and your awesome RPing. You love-able bunch of moralfags.

Its a d100 table in increments of 10 (1-10, 11-20, and so on). The 50s were done in the 4th thread I think. So minor that it wasn't worth it to continue it.

NOTHING IS TOO FAR IN OUR SEARCH FOR SIX.

But I'm sure part of the reason we didn't was that after we hacked in we realized B2 didn't really have much any information that we didn't know already.

Also, yay for us managing not to make ourselves appear to be scum in 19 and CAM's eyes.

Oh, so you'd already used it so you discarded it and rolled again. I get it. Well, I hope the low nineties are something good.

Oh, you flatterer. But yeah, I prefer to try and save as many people as possible. THOUGH I STILL THINK THIS IS PROBABLY A TRAP YOU DEVIOUS BASTARD. WELL YOU WON'T GET ME, BECAUSE I'M WAITING FOR IT!

This paranoia is probably not healthy, but w/e.

Hrm. In that case I'll have to throw someone in who can't be turned. Though in Mass Effect, I still talked the BBEG into killing himself on the first playthrough.

The solution is actually quite obvious; make the enemy a guy instead of a girl.
