Posted this just b4 last thread ended, wanted some feedback.

Since humanity is gathered so close, the collected spiritual essence has changed something in the Emperor's physiology. The EKG is registering faint beats, barely more than artifacts, and through the impossibly weathered and thin skin, his blood is turning to the blue-white shade of the soul.

One day, a Custodes thinks he sees a twitch, but dismisses it while cleaning the holy fire alarm.

The Emperor bides his time as he always had, waiting for his body to adapt to the new source of life.

Basically, the Emperor's body is changing to run off of liquid soul, and sufficient human sacrifice will revive him entirely. He'll be a true God, feasting on souls to exist, but he'll still be human, giving him no end of moral dilemma.

    good?

    Okay, time for a RECAP

The Emperor briefly woke up sometime in the 42nd Millennium to issue one command: the building of the greatest ship ever to exist.

The Great Ship was to incorporate the entire material and human wealth of the Imperium into a single vessel of astronomic proportions.

The Ship took 9,000 years to build, during which time every Imperial world and holding was utterly strip-mined to provide the raw materials for what would become Mankind's greatest achievement.
    >> Anonymous 01/25/10(Mon)01:37 No.7765755
    >>7765728

It is the ONLY ship anon. All others that venture nearby crash into the ship due to GRIMDARK gravity well.
    >> Anonymous 01/25/10(Mon)01:38 No.7765775
    >>7765749

The Ship is over one AU in length: that's almost 100 million miles. It's powered by a dozen captive stars and generates a gravitational field rivaling that of a black hole.

The entire population of the Imperium of Man was indentured in the construction and crewing of the Great Ship. Upon its completion, the Imperium was no more: now, in its place, the ISS Imperium would sail the stars.

So what are the largest threads to the Ship?
It seems like we've decided on Necrons, Orks and Nids, in that order-- all of them are inside the Ship and thus capable of doing massive damage. Since they've infiltrated the AdMech, the Necrons are the most sinister of all three races.
Chaos has been reduced to a nightmare that swarms outside the Ship, but remains pretty much kept at bay by the power of the Emperor's light. Heretics and Chaos Space Marines are more of a disturbance than an actual life-threatening terror.
Dark/Neo-Eldar pirates continue to harass the Crew, as do renegade humans, rogue mutants (there would be a LOT), and traitorous Eldar, Tau, Kroot and other beneficiaries of the Captain's hospitality.

Can we think of any other major threats to the Great Voyage?

We, the Ship's Eyes, see you, child. We, the Ship's ears, hear your plea. Our network, our machine spirits, are one with the God-Captain... his wisdom guides all.

You are chosen. Your quest is as follows.

    1. Blown by the unceasing wind of Ventilator 423957 XA, sail thou across the bilge-sea for a year and a day, ever into the west, and the blue light of plasmalamp Delta Porphyrion. Fear not thirst and starvation, for the bilge-nomads will aid you.

    2. Trek thou northwest across the rust-flake desert until you reach the oasis Mallan. It's people have for generations forgotten the Truth. Tell them of the God-Captain, the Ship, and the Voyage. There is in their neglected temple a sealed chest. Recite the Litany of the Task, and it will open. Retrieve the holy Fuse.

    3. Venture North. The years will age you. Be stalwart in your duty, bear your holy task and burden. Through the passage of Samphael you will go, to the Dark Lands.

    4. For two centuries, since their Lamp failed them, the Dark Lands have languished, the people starving and blind. They feed on fungus, and the refuse that washes from the worlddecks above. They click, with their tongues, and by the echoes know their surroundings. They fight the greenskins, armed only with spears and knives. There in the dark, they make beautiful sculptures, and they sing hymns in praise of the God-Captian, who will bring them Light. They no longer know what light is.

    5. Lead them in crusade against the greenskins. Seize the holy maintenance-temple of Sigma-Sigma-Epsilon from their heathen clutches. Install thou, in the hollow beneath the altar, the holy Fuse. Repair the plasma-lamp. Bring the faithful the God-Captain's light.

    6. Receive canonization. Await further instructions.

The ship is constantly being repaired and over-repaired by the tech-priests. They order too much stuff, as they traditionally do- and sometimes more than enough arrives. . . Techpriests with a surplus of materials, folks. That's a truly horrifying thought.

And the ship? The ship is alive, being linked to the God-Emperor of Mankind directly. He IS the ship, and is both the Omnissiah-literally- and the master of the Void Dragon. The ship builds itself. Where humans haven't been in centuries, where life hasn't ever existed, perhaps- the ship grows. . .

The Ship has a giant gravitational ramscoop up front that gathers all the mass in The Ship's path and feeds it to a fusion reactor.

A fusion reactor larger than most stars, but this one doesn't create energy. It's far more complex and subtle. It's purpose is to transmute the stream of particles sucked through the fire at the maw of the scoop into all the raw elements needed by the ship.

Haven't been following the thread, but presuming this massive ship is leaving the galaxy (exodus) I think the reason people don't like doing so is because the run out of warp to sail through (no people, no warp)

If this is large enough to create it's own warp presence, then it will be large enough to create it's own warp to move through.

The bad news is that that entire Section of Bilge Deck 1643 was jettisoned into space twelve years ago, due to a nearly complete infestation of fork-tongued bloodworms.

The only reason we can communicate at all is that even after all this time, that Section still hasn't cleared the length of the Ship. We estimate that it will go beyond sensor range in approximately twenty eight more years.

Its not terribly surprising you didn't know, there were several hives within that never received word.

Death by bloodworms is not pretty. I suggest facing them head on if you see them first. That way you die a nearly painless death.

Well, that's a lie. But you will die sooner.

I can see this actually happening, which is the funny part.

This is like a "Final Solution" to the chaos problem, and it's like an awesome concept. The Emperor awoke, and with his guidance, mankind became a Type 2+ on the Kardashev scale and decided...

    Let's go through SPAAAACE....

I mean, with the Emperor at the helm, and with his massive intellect and willpower and the amount of wards he personally wrote in the ship, and the ones his servant put in...it makes sense that chaos is like an insect problem, rather than the horrific shit it is in 40k.

I like the concept. It's an elegant concept for a civilization....although the scale of cannibalizing the resources of untold planets to build this monstrousity alone, ...

Imperium made craft worlds could be like frigates serving as an auxiliary fleet, docking with the ship once every 50-100 years in order to recharge from the ship's dyson spheres.

I think there should be a HUGE number of ships in the surrounding fleet, serving innumerable purposes. Whole planets were used in construction for the fleet as well. Even with this, the grand armada is >>.1% the size of the great ship.

This also gives an excuse to throw in some tau/eldar/whatever else we can't find a place for in the ship.

As for keeping chaos OUT and the Emps power AMPED?

    1) The Emps is inside hooked up to the ship. The Emps is his own Astronomicon, Gellar Field, calms the warp, and gives powers to his faithful like he's a chaos god- which he now is.
    2) Emps made the Void-Dragon his bitch and harnessed his power. Again.
    3) There are necrons welded into the hull. Lulz anti-warp technology.
    4) The Deceiver is tooling around somewhere inside the ship- and completely fucking chaos over wherever he goes, being a C'tan and chaos hates C'tan and Necrons and stuff. Just as Planned on the part of Emps? Maybe.
    5) All of humanity- ALL OF IT- all 2.5 octillion of them if I recall correctly, are on that ship, boosting the Emps power nigh-infinitely over and over again, because of their renewed faith in being both so close to him and seeing what his will can do.

A while back, I listened to an old sci-fi audiobook from way back, and it was all about these people that live in a giant ship, believing that it was the whole universe. Heretics who believed otherwise were killed or fled to the upper decks, which is also where the crew that had mutated lived. Heretics, criminals and the dead were fed into the furnace, where their souls would be recycled.

The main character murdered some wise-woman/fortune teller for a reason I forget, and had to flee to the upper decks, where he was almost killed by a mutant (Who hate the pure-bloods with a passion) but the mutant's leader takes him in, and opens the bridge viewport to reveal the space outside. Turns out he's researching the books up in the upper decks and trying to build a crew to pilot the deck. In the end, the pure-bloods mount an expedition to kill muties/kill him and they murder the leader, the only man with the knowledge on how to pilot the ship and read the books.

I can't remember too much offhand, but take any campaign inspiration from that as you will.

I'm having fun seeing the back and forth between the necrons and Emps powering up yet more.

The Deceiver's inside, tooling about, fucking with the AdMech because it's fun. In my mind, the Emps may have very well manipulated him into coming here because all the life energy in the galaxy is now HERE- and yet its presence further denies chaos entry. What a web we weave, Emps. Replacing the evil of the warp with the C'tan. . .

Oh, and I laughed for a minute straight the first time I imagined an AdMech bent over a reading, his oculars bugging out over a console that says necron-sized holes in the armor, plating, floors, walls, and ceilings of the ship. Like cutouts, really. And mass is increasing too rapidly in certain areas, before teleporting off to other areas. . . And techpriests, touched by the Deceiver, have somehow managed to smuggle onto the ship Tomb World reconstruction chambers, which heal the necron bodies. And there's outrageous numbers of necrons on the ship now-

Only the ship's so big, and there's so many humans, a human can go their entire life without hearing even a single tale of a man made of metal.

    Let us ponder the Mysteries.

    What is the God-Captain?
    What is the Omnissiah?
    What is the Imperium?
    What are we, the people?
    What is the Ship?

The God-Captain is neurally networked to the trillion trillion cogitators and servitors that permeate the length and breadth of the ship. One with the machine spirits, He is the Omnissiah. They are the mind and soul, and the body is the very decking beneath our feet. He is the Ship.

We, the masses of humanity, souls more numerous than the fabled stars, are the Imperium. And the Imperium is the Ship.

And so, the God-Captain, the Omnissiah, the people, and the Imperium are one, and are the Ship.

    The Ship is all.

Make it like this: Emps has actually died after the ship left port. All hope was lost, but at the same time a young psyker rose from among the populace, and started preaching novel ideas, about progress and peace. Persecution follows, and he's caught and sacrificed to the corpse of Emps in a horribly gruesome way. It turns out he was emprah incarnate, trying to steer his people back into the light. So they killed him and imprisoned him again in his carcass to steer the Ship.

They could see things that way I guess... but they'd be wrong, according to established 50k canon.

Every meter of ship is filled with vast databanks, cogiators, and servitors, all of which are linked directly to the Emperor's psychic will-- that's how He steers the ship. Therefore, the Emperor is in fact the literal Machine-Spirit/Omnissiah of the ISS Imperium: He is the "spirit" of the ship, its central processing unit or mainframe, so to speak.
So a tech-faction that tried to maintain the old separation of Emperor and Omnissiah would be not only heretical but also very misled.

You notice a shadow over top you. Rapidly growing darker and smaller, it plummets through the sky, then, with a small "ting!" something bounces off your head. It is a servo-skull. With a note and a full canister of water, four times the size of the skull, which struggles to hover next to you. The note reads:

"Five days. Do not despair. The Ship has not abandoned you.

    The Ship is All.

A new shadow grows, darkens, and you look up. A flock of Servo-skulls flutter about above you, providing shade in the heat of the blistering plasma-nova above. It is a shifting cloud, one or two occassionally darting down to fly off miles away. After a brief flash of las-light or two, sometimes return to the swarm- if not, larger packs fly off, and more flashes are seen. These skulls do return. After you sit briefly, your personal servo-skull nudges you, and you look at it, which flies upward, drawing your attention to the cloud. It's in the shape of an arrow pointing towards an edge of the horizon.

Indeed, the ancient fracture is healed. The Emperor is no longer an aspect of the Omnissiah... he is the Omnissiah, whole and physical! He is the machine spirit of the Ship, and the Ship is the entire MASS of the Imperium converted into technology.

Meditate upon the Mysteries, and you will understand.

Ok yeah, good point. Either way, I think the idea of the AdMech being completely evil is unrealistic, as they would probably be rooted out quite quickly. Unless the AdMech actually split into two distinct factions, like Eldar and dark Eldar, rather than it just being a Puritan vs. Radical type deal.

"...not a raider, not a bilge person, dying though..."

"...crazy man dying in the dunes has a note, it means nothing..."

"...somehow he'll live ask him tomorrow..."

When you awaken weakly you are in a rusy iron shack with three armed people looking at you. They are wearing the same dark, rust stained hoods you saw before you blacked out. One of them steps forward and speaks.

    "Why are you here stranger?"

Heretical fools! There is nothing "outside" the ship, any more than there is anything "outside" the sight and power of the God-Captain!

The Ship has no exterior! Lo, the holy scripture says that the Ship is ALL, there is NOTHING ELSE! In the darkness, before the age of Construction, true, there was void, there were portions of creation not shaped by and for men... but the Construction abolished all of that! PRAISE the GOD-CAPTAIN!

Seize the voidists! Strike them with wrenches, smite them with clubs! Tear them with your very fingers if you must, but SILENCE their LIES!

    THE SHIP IS ALL!

"Thank the God-Captain..." Anon mutters. His voice cracks before any more can be said.
*takes a swig of tinny water*
*trudges under the arrow shaped cloud*
As Anon walks bodies of raiders become apparent through the blistering haze. Odd little piles off bone and scrap indicate the demise of a skull. Anon wonders for the umpteenth time to himself why he hasn't given up yet. As a child he had been a weak stripling, as an adolescent he had been meek and cowardly. This was by far the most desolate place he had been and yet still he walked. The pain barely registered above the lethargy he now felt. But he had faith. Faith that the Ship would not abandon him, faith that the fate awaiting him could not be worse than starving in a bilge-deck control room.

    /tg/ 50k:
A custom setting, leaving the canon behind and spanning pages 1-10 of 4chans' waning neckbeard. Within the myriad threads, the Great Exodus sets course and begins its launch, traversing the dark Warp of "thin your paint" spamming and 4e trolling.

At the helm, humanity looks to the spirit of /tg/, ever dormant but in one brief spark--which briefly wrested itself to consciousness from it's aged throne amid half-sentient namefags. The words were thus:

    We shall move.

Entire boards were stripped of writefags, toiling ceaselessly for an internet millenia, building a new vessel which would fulfill the newly-conscripted /tg/'s great, barren neck. The manufactoriums of suptg and 1d4chan providing the framework, our efforts began to embody the greatest work of an era's decline.
From the twilight embers of the fantastic, the steampunk, and the far-flung future, a swath of homebrew creations were harnessed, distilled, and now light the unyielding drives of myriad engines. To where they launch the immense colony-ship, only the immortal spirit of /tg/ knows.

As /v/irgins pressed from all sides, summoning heresy and abomination from the psychic link shared by glorious traditional gaming and the heretical insurgence of videogames, still we built humanity's vessel. 'Ere the coming death of our beloved solidarity as the /b/ horde redoubled their insatiable warlust, we finished the flagship of our Exodus.

The Eye of /v/ knows only the wake of our derailment threads--their denizens turning against fellow rivals in failed DoW2 trolling and WoW stat queries. We tend the machine of our devices, as the ever-thrumming glow of engines press our remaining populace into the dark night. Where it leads, only the God-Emperor knows.

    And thus we sail
    fa/tg/uys and ca/tg/irls
    amongst the stars.

Haven't read through all of this...but I imagine that Chaos would be nil outside of the ship. Slaanesh would be the unmistaking dominant Chaos entity, and the other three would do what they can to overthrow it at whatever means necessary.

Maybe a few Eldar refugees on board, or xenos hiding. A couple of genestealer cults.
