Your parents fled from a fishing village to the south, they carried you for what seemed weeks as you were sick.
you have regained your strength but they have died of the same illness that afflicted you.

***** nearby there is a forest to your immediate south east, also there is a large river.

***** your small shelter is made of reeds, it is very small and not of much comfort.

ITT : suggest one thing at a time and i will follow your instruction. Think of OP as the game engin.

The world we build will effect the larger world also. to our far south there is the previous village that awoke the daemon god SHABOTH THE FORTOLD.

The thing is that fire is probably associated with Shaboth worship, given that those cultists have burned the corpses and HE HAS A FUCKING FLAMING SWORD. Religious habits -

To cleanse ourselves ritually every morning. The wandering god requires no fixed shrine, but we must clean and refresh ourselves for every day's journeys.

First thing in the morning, communal prayer at the water's edge, then washing our faces and arms.
    >> Anonymous 04/20/10(Tue)14:26 No.9316236

It's not really primitive outright. You see, people worship something they find mysterious. Early tribes saw flame as something that kept them warm and safe by its grace, while later civilizations regarded fire as a tool, and though worship of it primitive.

Worshipping of rivers is primitive as well - but since our village is kept alive by it (compare first and the current picture) it makes more sense than worshipping fire.

    >> Anonymous 04/20/10(Tue)14:31 No.9316314

Judging by the picture, I'd say we live in a temperate environment. We never really see our guy lightning a fire, so we can assume it never really gets cold here - that's why fire isn't important for the people here.

River, on the other hand, brings fish, poison and money from the bridge toll. They fear that if they don't show it proper respect, all those things will somehow dissapear - it's not necessary, but to be on the safe side, let's make some rituals to keep it satisfied, shall we?

And that's how river worship is born.
    >> Anonymous 04/20/10(Tue)14:32 No.9316328

It's not really that different - if a tribe, for example, would have trouble keeping fire (but have a river nearby) and would not really need the river, they'd try to keep the fire satisfied. Worshipping earthly things IS more primitive than worshipping divine beings (such as true gods), but religion is LESS primitive than no religion.

It IS a tool. But it's a lot more immersive to see a village like that worshipping river than fire. It would be more awesome if they just traded with the other village for pitch and axes, dipped the axes in pitch, set them afire and start yelling and killing people like barbarians IN THE NAME OF FIRE, but that's not really immersive.

We should totally do this in a turn based base-building style. It'd be a little redundant if everyone participated in the construction of every village, and then crush all the others in a majority vote action. Can we split up the posters by the villages they support? This obviously won't affect anything now, but I'm just saying:

Oh, yeah, I guess that's right.

But still, why can't somebody with the persistence of Toady One (but actually a good coder), without aspergers, build a strategy game?

If we need good trading, roads must be constructed for the carts. I'm not talking cobblestone all of a sudden (although that'd be preferable), but something has to be done of the same effect.
And a marketplace/trading post, of course. Maybe a pier for some trading ships, too.
    >> Anonymous 04/20/10(Tue)18:24 No.9320268
Look, if we're being faced by a threat to the south... why don't we send our own people to the north? Scouts, maybe preachers.

Tell whoever we find in the north that a great evil has awakened; our village is a bulwark against this evil. Anyone who doesn't want to be made into a fire sacrifice to some devil should wash his/her face with the holy river, and swear devotion to Usulus.

For when the waters move, all things are made clean; and when the waters stand, all thoughts are made clear.
    >> Anonymous 04/20/10(Tue)18:25 No.9320284
Because you need aspergers to code a strategy game alone, mayhaps?

Expand elders to a sort of all-round clerical-type. Herbmage, Elemental master, councilor... Then expand the people who can train to be elders to 'anyone', and make a trade out of it. 7 years of apprenticeship, upon completing you learn the more powerful secrets.

Have a subclass of elders for orphans and the homeless - they would treat the wounded, gather herbs, to handiwork for the town/county they're working for, and in return they receive food and shelter, companionship, a fallback.

Basically allowing the homeless and unfortunate to avoid starvation and poverty while still contributing, and gaining life lessons for when they're well-off enough to learn an independant trade, or well learned enough to get a head start on their elder apprentice-ship.

I think we should find a way to make the riverwater that passes our village holy, and let it flow down to the south to counter the evil forces. We'll make them force their hand against our defenses.

Plant more crops now that we have irrigation, have priests bless them.
Build the infrastructure needed to make our own food - you know, the whole mill-bakery-storage, butcher-leatherworks-tanner-sausage maker production chains.

Yes this is important. Grains and beans. Then veg. That would also make for a healthier diet.

If we want to fish, though, we should make dried fish. Both to keep better, and to sell. The fish are the gift of our goddess, we should honour her by eating them.

To prepare for our next trading excursion, make some holy items: Small glass flasks that bear the mark of Usulus, fill them with the holy water from the well, sting these up in necklaces. Bowls that purify food, or can be used for washing. All that kinda good stuff.

Make little votive offerings to Usulus in the form of tiny boats made from leaves or woven straw, with gifts or candles inside. Set them to float down the river, and eventually they sink and pass into the goddess' hands. Do this regularly.

The shrine of the Great Goddess Usulus begins to rumble as a blinding light erupts from the tower.

The glorious figure of Ulusus shines into being , delivered to the world through our deeds.

All who look upon her are converted to the light of Ulusus. All who bear her symbol upon her arrival are blessed with everlasting life.

    This land is now hers.
