    Just for this:

Shit a nWoD fanboy likes about oWoD:

    - The metaplot didn't interfere with games, because it was terribly easy to ignore. The core rulebooks never really changed as a result of it, it was largely a delivery system for new material to take or leave. oWoD storytellers in general didnt give a shit what was 'canon' unless it improved their game.

    - Actual, in practice games were generally angst-free. We all had *that* player, but in general groups are tight knit and in it for the laughs. Betrayal is taken well, combat isn't an impossiblity.

    - The core products have enough material to last a nuclear war and bigger than life archetypes which makes introducing new players a lot easier, imo, than nWoD.

    No they aren't.

Daeva are Succubi, but that's because they're seductive and manipulative.
Except that they don't necessarily need to have the Vice of Pride or Lust.

If a Daeva has the Vice of Wrath, then that means they're going to just beat the everloving shit out of everyone who pisses them off.

nWoD is crap compared to the first one. It doesn't have nearly the same charm. It doesn't have a good, intriguing plot like the first. Sure it allows "more liberties and freedom to create a character", but in the process it just destroyed the unique and fascinating atmosphere of fear, paranoia and ambition which could be found on oWoD.

If nothing else, the new clans, "daeva" and such, SUCK SHIT, almost as much as the exclusion of the original, fascinating old clans.

I loved oWoD, but I could see past the obvious jokes of the Toreador. Sure, they were played frequently as trainwrecks of vapid, one-way love affairs, stalker-esque romances and the inevitable "But, I love her!" confrontations with the other PCs when they'd show up with a random 13-year old they kidnapped from a bus station... beyond that, they were also really, really fast.
Celerity in a sparkly-fruity Clan as a natural Discipline?
That has Win written all over it.

A real Clan: Tzimisce. Yes, they can love, learn and 'live' like all the other Clans can, but they can make their lover into a portion of their spinal column, so they'll never be apart.

That's the difference between a Toreador's "waah, she's a mortal and I'm gonna live forever without her" and a real Vampire's "death is only the beginning" lifestyle.

    tl;dr: Tzimisce > Toreador.
    Toreador = so ronery.

Spud lay in his ceramic coffin, surrounded by the most opulent artifacts of his generation. Perhaps, he mused, someone would find him and his museum. They could become enlightened. They would have the wit and spirit to awaken him, and learn about the Golden Age. What was once great about the world would become history, legend.

It was the foolish musings of a vampire tired of his surroundings, and he knew it. There was nothing left of this value in era, and he relied in that bold future to hold some interest, not to ask him endless questions of beauty that will never return.

Spud entered the deep, timeless sleep of death, clutching close to his chest Bradford Exchange's finest Dale Earnhardt collector's clock.

Definitely. Thinking Am Hard for the rank-and-file, but Evil Be Easy for the remainder. After reading their sourcebook, I ceased running all Camarilla-friendly games and stuck with the fun and excitement. Strangely, during their PCs introspective moments, I saw better roleplay then than out of every other Cam campaign I'd run. Either my technique improved or their roleplaying styles did; in any case, I was pleased.

Actually, the OP's troll pic is completely correct. Not because of the setting, but because of the players who are attracted to WoD, specifically V:tM/V:tR. After playing Vampire with a couple of groups, and hearing character stories from werewolf players, I have sworn off playing WoD in general. Players seem to take the stuff that should be fucking terrifying in their stride, and instead they play a game of Queer Eye For The Vampire Guy. I may make an exception for Hunter (either edition) because it's a bit less prone to feeling like I'm helping write really bad slash fiction.

tl:dr there is truth to the trolling, but it's not the fault of the game.

Aye, I think it's less obvious that the Camarilla are just as much "the bad guys" as the Sabbat, they just happen to be shit-scared of humanity so tend not to fuck them over as blatently - as opposed to the Sabbat who are shit-scared of a bunch of mad vampire-gods waking up and destroying the world, so really don't give a shit about humans.

I'd say Sabbat gets more introspection because they actually expect you to be a vampire and do monstrous shit that goes against everything you used to believe, while the Camarilla leans more towards politics and currying favour.

That said, I can imagine newfag players rapidly turning a Sabbat game into LOL I RAPE THE PRINCESS - FUCK THE MORALFAGS!!! xD.

I think the primary difference between Cam and Sabbat leadership is their thoughts on the use of flamethrowers; Camarilla would be opposed, unless it was during active combat with a strong supernatural element, whereas the Sabbat would be opposed to using them at bowling alleys.

My players routinely ran into "office politics" while doing the anti-Antedulivian good deeds of the day. The power struggle dynamics were awesome, if a bit baffling at times. It worked out to be "an hour of backstabbing a friend so I can spend ten minutes stabbing an enemy's face".

It was like nothing else. Colours grew wilder, more ambitious, spilled into eachother and fought. An offensive by red spilled the world into anger as blue flushed it into melancholy. A line of chests tightened like a great knotted rope, swaying as one to the motion of the spectacle in front of them.

Farkie agreed, this was definately the best tractor pull in the tri-county area.

Hunter games can be hellaciously fun, if you find a group of experienced players and one guy that knows fuck-all about the game.

At least, that's what I gather from it. I joined in a game of Hunter: The Reckoning about a week ago after having spent zero time playing any kind of RPG before.

Shit was excellent. At one point, I apparently ate enough damage to kill a normal person but left me alive due to Stamina. Vampire thought that a sucker punch backed with supernatural strength would kill me. I ended up taking his teeth out with a pair of pliers and the help of my associates.

Cristobel had seen this battle before, and every time, it was a fresh wound in his battered soul; Antietam, Gettysburg, New Orleans, all over again. Forever it would play out, time and time again, repeating the same mistakes as sons of the South met the youth of the North. Sweat, tears and pain would echo into the hallowed halls of eternity, with no real victor, or comparative losses, forevermore.

Yankees 5, Tampa Bay Rays 4, fourth inning.

Vera Mae stared at her kine date, appalled and stunned by his raucous behavior. After years of hard work and self-disciplined training, she could keep human food intake to a normal level without drawing the suspicious eyes of the innumerable Hunters. Her date seemed oblivious; he held in his hand the fork designed for the crab portion of the meal in his right hand, and a thick red wine in a beautiful, frosted glass snifter in the other. Glaring her disapproval, she chided him gently with her mental powers, guiding his actions until it was evidence enough of her disapproval.

She was so enraged at his social faux pas on this night of all nights, her 200th birthday, she barely held onto her handful of mashed potatoes.

Mages won't go were. The Awakening is incompatible with the Garou thing. In Mage terms, Garou all share a common avatar, kinda. oWoD werewolves are born that way - they just don't show it until puberty or so.

Vampires... Again, not compatible. Becoming a vamp replaces your living avatar with a shard of Caine's black essence. You can learn to do static magic like the Tremere, through blood sorcery/Thaumaturgy, but you'll never do Sphere magic again.

If even half of it is true, it is awesome.

I only have two real gripes with WW: The immense railroading of Trans Chronicles/Giovanni Chronicles, and the immense hardon for the Giovanni.
The final Giovanni book was focused on the Givanni neonates, which I think was awesome for letting players experiance existance in the clan. Hwoever, linking it to the events of the past books was a mistake because huge liberties were taken with the past characters. Anyone who has read the books knows about a certain tablet that has become central to the fight between the old PCs and the Giovanni. Anything that valuable would be chained to the PCs 24/7 so the Giovanni wouldn't get it, but in the final book, it was sent out in a truck with just a few ghoul guards just so it would fall into the Giovanni's hands. A massive WTF?! momment.

Samuel Haight, former Kinfolk, former ghoul, former Skin Dancer, former Mage, currently an ashtray somewhere in Stygia.

Samuel Haight was an early WoD character, Kinfolk to the Children of Gaia who was haunted by his failure to Change. Setting out on his own, Haight learned about the power of Kindred blood and became an independent ghoul. After some time, he advanced from piddling ghoul to piddling sorcerer, mastering enough Hedge Magic to create a ritual that, with the aid of five Garou skins, would turn him into a werewolf.

After becoming a powerfully Wyrm-tainted kinfolk-werewolf-independent-ghoul-hybrid, Haight acquired a magical artifact that provided him with an Arete rating.

Haight became, for all intents and purposes, a Mage. He attacked the Crombeys (branch of the Verbena) and stole a magic pumpkin branch, and then proceeded to Mexico City to take on the Baali Antediluvian.

Although, it wasn't an Antedeluvian, but only a Methuselah, Haight did not survive the encounter.

Haight found himself in the Shadowlands, and according to the Book of Legions, was soulforged into an ornamental ashtray on a minor Hierarchy functionary's desk, never to be seen again.

At least until Mage: Judgment Day, by Bruce Baugh. In one small scene in the book, one of the characters is buffeted by detritus from the Underworld. One of the items is — you guessed it — an ashtray.

Plus, the treatment of the old PCs, while it was suggested that the players take control of the 'Conspiracy of Issac' for RP, it is assumed that most or all of them die or take a certain stance regarding Cappidocious. This assumes a lot, since the players may very well of had the PCs agreeing with Cappidocious's plans.

-Proprietary bloodlines/clans never seen anywhere else? Check.
-Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR previously unheard of Antediluvians? Check.
-Supersecret headquarters in the Shadowlands, which is supposed to be Enoch? Check.
-Absofuckinglutely EVERYTHING retconned in short order, complete with NUCLEAR FUCKING EXPLOSIONS IN THE SHADOWLANDS to wipe out the "True Black Hand" canonically? MOTHERFUCKING CHECK.

In oWoD Mage, you had your hardcore camps; Traditions, Nephandi, Discocracy.. now, its down to smaller and smaller fractional camps: Summer, Winter, Spring, Fall, late August-Around-Noon-or-So, whatever. I enjoy factional warfare, both overt and subtle. With the addition of the Fair Ones as the Uber Villains, one need not ever draw up a motivation; "Just Because" is now a legitimate reason and argument. No more need for the enforced camraderie of the old groups; now, its just one Freehold, barely holding on, linked up with another Freehold, also barely holding on.

No artistes. No fruity little song-and-dance routines. Just survivors and the former kapos, looking out over their shoulders, forever trapped in the Hedge, literally and figuratively.

in oMage, you had Etherites; in the SoE, you could find a half-dozen camps, each with their own agenda.
In the Order of Herpes, you could find a full dozen 'houses', with their own agenda.
    With the Euthanatos, even more.
Throw in the Destiny/Avatar/Mentor thing, and you've got up to a six-way gangbang going on in every Mages' head, and not everyone even wants to finish up.

The SoEs and the Vdepts were the best part of the Traditions. Not "best Traditions", but they illustrated exactly what was awesome, and what was wrong, about the faction. It was a big tent where everyone who opposed the Technocracy's banal plunge could get together... but it also offered absolutely no unified alternative to replace the scientific paradigm of the Technocracy. It was a bunch of selfish children trying to fight against the system with no idea how to build a system of their own, and the defectors made that point hit home better.

Also, it kept it from being pure "medieval magic against modern science".

It doesn't. Morality is a misnomer. It's more of an Empathy scale and fitted towards the average civilian perspective.

Dogs of War goes into this pretty heavily since by the normal morality heirarchy of sins most soldiers would swiftly degenerate to roughly 3 Morality and likely be riddled with psychoses. Which is why Dogs of War introduces triggers and trauma ands all that so you have something more realistic (IE, soldiers don't turn into gibbering monsters).

I've heard tell Mirrors has an entire chapter for alternate morality systems.

    >>or for combat-type PCs?

This. It's primarily for soldiers and military chronicles which can (and usually does) mean mortals.

However, it CAN also be for werewolves (or anything else) as whilst I've not finished reading the book I've heard others who have done so mention a Zero Company.

And Zero Company is full of monsters that show up in the military (such as a private undergoing his First Change when his squad gets slaughtered by insurgents or whatever)

Pretty hard. Many young Uratha who don't get picked up by either side (or a random pack of Ghost wolves) don't survive.

Of course, you get the few who make it as a lone wolf. Or who get picked up by *others*, such as Zero Company - or by the local mage Cabal or werewolf coterie.

You know, anyone who might have the muscle to forcibly recruit the young and confused - or have the knowledge to offer them answers in return for their strength.

Look, I'll give you some heartfelt advice.

#1) Stop being a colossal faggot. I don't know how you can achieve this, but the best bet is to stop acting like you're a character from a fucking game at all.

#2) Drop your trip. Completely. Never use that shitstained identifier again for the rest of your fucking life. Just using it is enough to remind people what a colossal faggot failure you have been up till now. If you post anonymously for a while, you might find people more receptive to things. Assuming you can rein in the faggotry enough not to be instantly identifiable.

Not actively, but when you run across a 'stray' so to speak, most will. Some out of the kindness of their hearts, others for personal gain.

Vampires can't steal essence though, they're completely ignore of the really hidden mysteries of the world. I don't think mages would both trying to do so since werewolves are not locii and thus do not generate essence (and even if they did there's still need to use a certain rote to convert the essence to mana since mages use mana instead of essence).

Mind you this all happens fairly rarely. Most find either the Pure or Forsaken find the werewolf *before* their Change has even hit them and mark them by biting them so they can track them and be the first on-sight when they change.

Of course, when *both* groups find one, it's typically safer to just grab them and wait out the time until the Change actually hits them or you risk the other group doing that.

A few insights from the new guy:
1.) Unplug for a few days. See the IRL MMO. They've got excellent expansions ready to install if you just download the "Open The Front Door" patch.
2.) Visit your local bar, drink a soda, listen to three songs and smile at something with a vagina. It'll do wonders for your lifestyle.
3.) If you have an urge to say something you are certain no one would say to you in real life, make it into an internal dialogue. If you feel the urge to post a snarky reply, refrain from it and accept that lurking is the first stage of learning. Fuck, I know that much.
4.) Lurk moar, again. Re-learn and shuffle your posting style, word choice and image file names.

Just suggestions. Salvage your life; it has value, even if only as a cautionary tale.
