"So, what's the plan?" Fieldson says.
Brody shuffles nervously in the passenger seat of the Corvette. He notices the laminated card around his neck and reads it, looking at you, then back at the card. This seems to satisfy him.
You're in the garage of the Chicago Arkham facility, ready to hit the road, with the vaguely-defined objectives of establishing some peace in what is rapidly becoming a chaotic hellhole.

    >What's your plan? I'm sure someone's compiled a list of your equipment; if not, I'll post one presently.

I believe our plan was either to engage the Spider that ravaged that town or head down to collect 33. Maybe also look into heading to Atlanta so we can free up the agent resources as well as attempting to keep our other allies safe (those that have been reassigned to deal with Atlanta [forgot his name]).

    "We're exterminators?" Brody murmurs, quizzical.
    "You know anything we don't?"

"We're just, uh, keepin' people out," he says, scuffing his feet.
"Well keep it up, but first get this roadblock out of my way."

"Uh...Ma'am! Yes ma'am!" He grabs the rifle, inspecting and loading it with an expert hand.
"At least he remembers something," Garfield remarks. "I hope we find that spider soon; I'm getting hungry."

You pull off the highway, slowly descending into the city proper. Immediately you are struck with the degree to which it is deserted; the only people left here are corpses. Thick strands of cobwebs are strung between the buildings, between cars, powerlines; everywhere.
    "Stay sharp," Garfield warns.
"Don't worry so much," you rejoinder.

"Who walks? Who speaks? What morsels cross my threshold?" The voice sounds in your head; it's like Garfield, but the voice is completely different; there is a slight roll to the R's.

"Brody, shoot anything with more than two legs! And don't freak out by what's about to happen!" The last few words are almost cut off as your blood slinks over your flesh, tightening into place. You screech the car to a halt, not trusting the private to take the wheel, and dive out the door, extending your whips.
The spider that was indeed on your car's roof bares it's hideous fangs at you and leaps, while the others circle around you. One catches a bullet from Brody, stumbling sideways, its legs scrabbling on the pavement.

You lash out with a whip, catching the spider in mid-air as it leaps for you. You pull forward, swinging it past you, aided by its own momentum. It crashes into the side of a building on this narrow street. You jerk backwards, watching the arachnid wriggle and squeal as the whip of blood burns through its abdomen. Finally it lies still.

Brody has exited the car. Dashing forward, perhaps recklessly, he jams his bayonet into the spider he shot, screaming frantically as it writhes, its fangs wriggling at him as he holds it at bay.

    >hey, let's use the 70, why not

Drawing your handy handgun, you pull the trigger wildly, bullets riddling the remaining spider. Brody gets his foot on the abdomen of the other, kicking his bayonet free and firing another round through its bulbous midsection. It struggles briefly, then lies still.

"For aeons we grew our brood within us in the cold black. At last they have been roused, and you shall bear first witness to their tide."
Sure enough, more large purple spiders are making their way up the street, and the walls of the street's buildings; they're coming from the direction of the flaming gas station, so any number of them could be cracked out.

As you watch them approach, you see several of them get incinerated as the gas station finally caves to pressure and explodes. One of the front runners staggers as you hear a gunshot; Brody is following instructions.

The sky momentarily darkens overhead; when you look up, you can catch only the faintest shadow of movement moving away over the rooftops, but whatever it was, it was able to bridge the width of the street easily.

"So prepare, say a prayer, send the word send the word to beware," Brody sings out strongly to himself, firing his fourth and fifth shots into the advancing crowd. Over a dozen spiders remain, and you don't doubt there are more. You lash one to pieces when it scuttles too close, and the two of you fall back to the car as you pepper them with wild shots from the 9mm.

Slipping a fragmentation grenade into the launcher, you steady the car, then lean out the window, firing back into the crowd. Several of the spiders go flying, as well as bits and legs. You seem to be outrunning the main pack, though you get the feeling more could come pouring out from the sewers or the rooftops any second. This fire needs to spread faster.

"Where go your taunting words? Where is your olive branch and your lash? We can smell the fear on your bootlick, and we know the seed of terror is watered in you."

True. I remember Corp Quest as well. If something like that was attempted, maybe it would be needed to be done in IRC. I wonder what system it could be run on if someone used an rpg...

    >Damn, son

You burn rubber getting away from the flames licking at this gas station.
    >Precog: for once, SUCCESS
Time seems to slow, and in your minds eye you see a torrent of spiders frothing up from a manhole. Blinking to clear your head, you swerve the car down a side street, narrowly avoiding the very same manhole, which begins spouting spiders.
Chancing a look upwards, you can see them scuttling over the rooftops, a veritable arachnid flood fleeing the gathering flames.

"Sweet Jesus," comes a voice from the backseat. "I said smoke a god damn Bible page or something, what the hell is all this shit?"

    "Spider Lebron?"
"Who the hell is this doughboy-lookin' clown?" Lebron says, pointing a spindly leg at Brody.
"Ma'am who are you talking to?" Brody says.
Colors seem more vivid, but you don't think you got a real hit off the lighter, at least not as much as last time. The car radio is playing music box music.
"Don't...don't worry about it private, just keep shooting."
    "Ma'am."
"Oh, y'all are proper fucked, look at these ugly-ass goons."

    >I'm going to need to take a step back and plan where this is going, because you guys are knee deep in it at the moment. Thread's auto-saging as well, so we'll wrap up for tonight.
    >In brief: You angered the brood of an arachnid that can sail through the cold void of space and talk in your mind; you are now in the middle of both a)Louisville as it burns to the ground and b)A tide of spiderlings the size of cars, at least some of which are probably tripping balls. You yourself are mildly tripping balls, and you're accompanied by a Memento-esque WWI veteran. Great Success?

When a GM says he needs a bit of time, you give him that time, and you receive awesome.

    Trust me, I'm a long-time GM.

I know you guys do, but I think it's better for everyone if I structure this somewhat between now and tomorrow instead of just freestyling you to your dooms.

Also, on the subject of multiple PCs: No. This is Helen Tanner's story, and it will remain such until we complete it or she dies. I would be all for codifying this as an adventure or a campaign setting, maybe even using a homebrew system (as I can't think of one that would readily fit).

One thing's for sure, 96's getting much more of an entry than "A large spider"
What do you mean by "can sail through the void in space"

I approve of your decision on shooting down the multiple PCs. Don't want it to get too clustered in here. And it would deaden the impact of Helen's story.

Did you guys have fun tonight?
I had a shitload of good times writing all of 96's dialogue (did someone order a LARGE HAM??)

Sorry I disappeared for a while. If it's any consolation the mac and cheese was delicious >_>

As he/it/whatever said, it came here through the cold blackness of space; it can, at the very least, survive out there, if not somehow propel itself.
Also, if you haven't caught on, Arkham was a little short of the mark numbering 96. In general, Arkham's numberings are to be taken with a grain of salt.

I'll do my best. Though 96 is ancient and clever, and has a horde of younglings. Don't expect to be able to draw it out easily, if at all. You may have to deal with the brood and track it down later.

Was kind of expecting it, and that's cool. A recurring villain with whom we can banter is okay with me.
