It is 1:00 a.m., January 1st, 2011. But yours was no light-hearted celebration. For you, the new year began with murder.

You are one of many guests at the mansion of Mr. Body, the famous billionaire. Mr. Body's annual new year's celebrations are famous, or perhaps infamous, for their raucous nature and influential attendees. Businessmen and celebrities vie for invitations, to mingle with the rich and influential, and for a chance at the apparently random prize. Every year, at 12:00 a.m. Mr. Body announces that one of the guests, chosen according to his whims, will be given $5,000,000.

This year, at 11:25 p.m., Mr. Body disappeared. At 12:01 a.m., the guests began to talk. And at 12:39, Mr. Body's body was found dead in his private study.

The more excitable and more drunk of the guests have all fled. A few more inquisitive souls remain, waiting for the police to arrive. You are one of them. You are certain one of the remaining guests is the murderer. Perhaps it is you.

You are Miss Vivian Scarlett, star of the silver screen. You got your start in televison before moving to Hollywood. A year ago, your agent Rufus was upset when a sex-tape you had made with Mr. Body himself leaked online, fearing your image would be ruined. Of course, your legion of loving fans only doubled.

Most recently, a film you were working on was canceled when the studio went bankrupt as the result of shady business practices, leaving everyone who worked on it just a little poorer. You were hoping to win Mr. Body's prize to recover some of your losses.

Your character selection grants you two special abilities:

-SEDUCTION: During a conversation, when you believe you have been lied to, you may use this ability to coax one true answer from your target.

-HEAD-TURNER: Use this ability when entering a room. All conversation in the room ceases, and no one can speak until you do.

The hallways are empty. Col. Mustard seems to have already passed by.

The lounge is empty, a large difference from the last time you were in this room. You spent half the evening here, making small talk and having men bring you more drinks.

Music is still playing. Apparently no one bothered to turn it off.

There are cabinets pulled open by thick, silken cords. You can't help but admire their ruby color, but they are too soft to make a good weapon.

"Oh my gosh," she asks, "are you both alright? This is terrible. Poor Mr. Boddy."

You recognize the woman as Mrs. Peacock, a socialite fond of parties such as these and attends them almost weekly. Her second husband recently passed away, under mysterious circumstances, and now she is richer than ever.

"Have you ever heard of anything so terrible?" she goes on. "I was waiting in the Hall for the police but they haven't come yet. I heard shouting down the west hall though, so I got nervous and left."

She means Col. Mustard, of course. Mustard was a friend of Mr. Boddy's parents, and has known Boddy since he was a child. Thus he's often at the mansion, and Boddy once referred to him affectionately as "Uncle Mustard." You, of course, have a lower opinion of him.

Miss Peach, if you don't mind, if you weren't invited, where've you been all this time? It IS unseemly that you should have to skulk about, I hope that it hasn't been too inconvenient?"

Well I didn't want to spoil it, but since it's come up: you'll note she wasn't invited to the party. The Master Detective characters exist in this universe from a fluff perspective, but the suspects were all at the party. Yes. While you were in the lounge, having a bit more playful time with the music and the drinking, the ballroom was where the majority of the guests stayed for proper mingling.

As you consider all this, Plum turns to Peach. "Well like I said, Georgia," he says, plainly ignoring you, "I'm going to find Mustard. Stay out of trouble." He leaves the room, ignoring you and sparing only a slight, distasteful glance for Peacock.

Georgia watches him leave and clears her throat softly. "Well, I'll just get out of your way," she says, stammering slightly. "I'm sorry you had to be here for this. Well, I'm sure the party was great, but after... just... oh. It's real, isn't it? Excuse me." She covers her mouth and moving towards the exit.

"You wanted to find Colonel Mustard, yes? I believe he was down the western foyer earlier?" Glance at Peacock for verification of this - assuming she nods/agrees/etc. Wish Miss Peach well, then ask Peacock if she still needs to rest for a bit. Whether she needs to rest or not, look about the room for anything interesting. Anything at all that might be out of place, even at a party - a note of some type, perhaps, or a missing object.

I'm going to bed after this post - I may be up long enough to jot down any "findings", but that's about it - good luck to any sleuths who get on this while I'm asleep/at work/etc.

Reminding Peacock of Mustard's shouting makes her shudder just a bit, but she nods. Peach leaves and closes the door behind her.

There are no chairs in the room, as they were moved out to make room for the guests, but the lush carpet is comfortable enough. Peacock sits down on the ground and leans against the wall. You examine the room, careful to notice anything and everything.

Stray crumbs of food dot the ground, showing that the guests enjoyed Ms. White's handiwork. You look up, examining the light fixtures in the room. One of them seems oddly loose, as though servants had rushed to refit it before the party and almost run out of time. Squinting up, it looks like some of the bolts are scratched from the overhasty application of some tool.

In the corner, hidden behind a table of food, you find that stray toolbox. Opening it, you find a set of wrenches of various sizes. There's an odd jump in the sizes though; you guess that a medium-sized one must be missing.

*yawns* okay, that was a decent enough sleep. Figure I should make a tripname to keep my personal "input" as mine, if only so I remember what the hell I said. Now, what damage can I do before I vanish for the afternoon...

Okay, Peacock is offering information here, so let's take it. We haven't used Seduction this conversation, so I say we use it now - and we can play it off as purely playful as opposed to using an accusing tone.

With a crooked, playful smirk, ask her "Searching for the next 'Mr. Peacock', hm? You -sure- you didn't wander off somewhere else, darling?" The Seduction skill will suss out the truth here - and if she WAS in the Ballroom the whole time, we can cross her off the list of suspects, since we know Ballroom is out.

Side notes: (1) How are we feeling? We were in a drunken stupor that was bad enough that we may have, in theory, killed someone. That much alcohol may mean we may need something to eat, even if just a few crackers to settle the stomach. If not, forget the food. Might have to just purge it later to keep the figure >.>

Also, this IS a game of Clue. What cards are WE holding that we can eliminate, if any. We found the rope rather easily, but that doesn't mean it was just dumped somewhere. Did we go into this -knowing- anything, or are we playing "without a hand" so to speak?

    Agree with this.

Let's try to get back on Peacock's good side, we know she's pissed about the slapping so we need to ingratiate her a bit. Asking her to make out is, I suspect, not the way to go about doing this.

Alright, might as well muse on motives while we wait.

It seems White might have the least reason to kill Boddy from what we know at the moment, fiscally speaking, as he is incredibly rich and she caters for him. This likely means she makes quite a bit of money thanks to Boddy.

Mustard, being an old friend, would seem to have the least reason to kill him personally speaking.

Not enough information on others to make even a basic judgement, really.

Food would probably be a good idea. Not much time has passed in-game, so mild adrenaline is keeping you going so far. Scarlett's genetics and experience with alcohol have staved off the more debilitating affects of a hang-over though, so even though your stomach isn't in great shape you don't have a headache.

For our purposes here, you are so-to-speak assembling your hand as you go on. For example, since the conservatory seemed undisturbed and the secret passage didn't seem to have been opened before you, you feel reasonably confident that the murder could not have been done in the conservatory. If new evidence makes you "lose the conservatory card" I will inform you.

    >>13373546

You examine the entrance of the secret passageway, ready to either come out and explain your presence or move farther into the passage as necessary. You're not sure where it leads, but based on the last passage you assume the Study is a safe bet. Whoever left the door open is probably there.

Peacock glances at the door to the kitchen nervously, waiting to see who else will arrive.
    >> Scarlet's Half-Sober Conscience 01/02/11(Sun)20:30 No.13377422
company has left, here for an hour before work to try to help...

Okay, Peacock is now in the kitchen - is the gun anywhere, or is anyone else (dead or alive)? I am assuming no... if yes, then that changes things drastically. Tell her "stay here, someone will come shortly", then we should investigate the passage. Peacock is our living alibi, and the scuffle is ahead, not behind. Noone's going to whack Peacock while witnesses are inbound, so she should be safe.

For verification, since I am just getting "back into it", the cards we have "in possession" as not-involved are as follows:

    Characters: Ms. Peacock
    Weapons: None
Rooms: Lounge, Conservatory, Ballroom (in order of "learning")

Telling Peacock to keep watch, you descend the steps into the passage. It is dimly light, with holes in the stonework cut letting light from the mansion come inside.

Suddenly, you hear the door to the passage close behind you. Peacock is coming down the stairs, wrench in hand. She raises the heavy iron tool, glaring at you. "This is for slapping me earlier, you bitch."
    >> Scarlet's Half-Sober Conscience 01/02/11(Sun)20:41 No.13377542
Ah, so clearly she is not to be trusted. We DO remember her in the lounge prior to blacking out though, you said, so she is "out of play", right? (still looking for hard verification on this, since I was "out of the loop" and just want to know where we all stand... particularly since I can see an argument for her not being out of play right now...)

Run! Run like a bitch that does not want hit with a wrench! We might survive, but that shit would ruin our career, and rope is insufficient for blocking blunt objects without shaolin training. I think also loud screaming is necessary while doing so. Make it clear how much fear is involved, so that when we tearass into the room past this passage, it's obvious it's NOT us that's the murderer.

One more thing... the wrench was missing, but Peacock never took it while we were in the Ballroom. This means she had it with her the whole time. At that quick glance, does it happen to have a blood stain? That we notice before bolting?

Peacock is currently in play as a suspect. Her alibi for being in the ballroom "the whole time" doesn't hold up, and you don't remember seeing her leave the lounge. You lack probable motive for her killing Boddy, but as you see she can overreact violently, with little provocation.

That's a vote for running and a vote for fighting back. Any one else?

I'm going for playing the "helpless" card, even if we aren't. If, for example, we run screaming, we aren't nearly as suspect as if we got on a slugfest. The scared helpless woman is much more likely to garner sympathy than the feisty one who can put up a fight - especially if it ends up being any weapon that's NOT the revolver that killed Boddy, as those require strength and/or skill to use.

"We aren't helpless" is one of our cards in pocket. I say we hide it until we have to play it.

On a completely separate note, we need to go actually find the corpse at some point once we're not running for our life. He may have been relocated to "gentler quarters" or something, but if there's a blood trail, that may help us find where it happened. Similarly, we can investigate the corpse and try to find what happened to him - people die in vastly different ways when roped, bludgeoned, stabbed, or shot, so it can eliminate weapons.

If she stops to look back, we will as well. The surprise from this, coupled with her wielding a wrench and us cowering in the back of a passageway, will make us look all-the-more "helpless", make Peacock look like a psychopath, and quite frankly, if the new guy roaring his way in from the back decides to eat someone, Peacock is closer than us. Into the Study we go. Again we have a situation where White shouldn't be inclined to whack us - Peacock AND Mustard know about her with a gun, and if a gunshot goes off, who just killed who would be obvious, and White becomes Public Enemy #1.

"We heard a gunshot, so we came to the kitchen... when we went into the passage, she pulled out this... WRENCH... and said something about 'this is for slapping me'... I screamed and ran, then Mustard showed up at the kitchen entrance, then you showed up, thank God... You're okay, right? What happened in here?"

Look at her worried - genuine concern. Bianca has, at the very least, not been a bitch to us at this point.

In the Study, White closes the door to the passage and stops, breathing a sigh. Then she turns and hugs you, arms around your neck. "I'm glad you're safe," she says, giving you a squeeze before letting you go. She moves towards the real door of the study, opening it and looking out into the hall. "Where are the damn police," White asks frustrated, mostly to herself.

You look around the room. Blood spots are on the floor, leading a trail out the door and around the corner. White comes back toward you, avoiding stepping on the blood. "Mustard, hm? I thought he was the one attacking you. He attacked me, that's why you heard gunshots."

"Well, Mustard came in, but it was Peacock at first... I'm just glad it's you here and not them..." Take a moment to take a deep breath, collect ourselves, and straighten this dress out - because really, we're Ms. Scarlet. We have to look good.

Mustard grunts, giving an imperceptible nod. He pulls the lead pipe from his pocket and drops it on the ground.

"Woah again. Slow down. White, are you suggesting what I think you're suggesting?" Green holds his hands up, trying to calm her down.

"I didn't kill my friend's son, if that's what she's suggesting," Mustard says. "Even if I did, not with this. I just grabbed this in the kitchen when I heard the screaming." He shakes Peacock roughly. "This one was attacking the woman in red. She's our killer, I bet."

Adding on to this, it will keep us from being a threat in the mind of the others; this works to our advantage. If we're cowering in a corner scared while people run around with weapon, we have a low profile.

Move on ahead. Knowing where the weapons are now won't really help us in solving the murder, and while we might be unarmed White has a rather effective trump.

Speaking of which, this might be an opportune moment to ask what prompted her to fire earlier.

Together, you and White make your way towards the library. The blood leads there. On your way, though, you notice that the door to the billiard room is ajar, and you hear breathing coming from inside.

Look to White and nod towards the door, in a manner as to indicate that we should go inside.

I also agree that walking through the hallway might be a good time to ask her about the gunshots.

"Bianca, I must ask, was it you firing that gun earlier? Did anyone come after you, too? This mansion is proving to be /most/ alarming."

Then I ran into the big army guy in the dining room, and he almost beat the shit out of me. I found the passage and hid in the study, but then I heard others coming so I ran and hid in here. Following the blood, you move into the library. There's a large amount of fresher blood on the one of the tables, dripping on to the floor. The murder almost definitely happened here.

White moves around the room with her revolver ready, looking for possible hiding spots. You stay behind and continue examining the bloody table. The amount of blood seems to verify that the murder was done with the knife.
