Colonel Walker watched the screen as all the enemy combatants detonated. Cutting their losses, or was it that their purpose was never to actually capture the Hybrid? In any case, it was both good and troubling news, and something that ought to be reported to Fierstrom, Walker mused to himself, as he lit another cigar.

"Well Lovac, it looks like the threat is over, for now. I'm calling off my guns, however I'm still sending some men down to the surface to clear up the situation and take care of the locals until your people arrive."

The sun rose. And the beaches were awash with blood. Behind him he could see the boy being tended to. So much blood was spilled for the choices they made a month ago. They wanted to survive, nay- they wanted to save a life. And they wanted to make a way.

    And this was the effect.
Men with egos and guns, and lives to throw around crapshotted it all in an attempt to take them all into the night. Got a lot of people killed, theirs, his, civilians risked it all. But for what.

    A message ? A kidnapping attempt ?

The sands kicked up as drop ships came in to assess the damage. The tan of millitary police jumped down and pointed guns at people. They were green, like touching a girl for the first time, green.

The enemy wasn't soft. But they died too easy. These people were not afraid to lose their lives.

They were not afraid to take it.

That was what they taught you in in clone conscription.
End the enemy. Whatever the cost.

He threw his helmet into the sand. This time the sun was rising. A new day. Cold mechanical hands dug in the sand as he sat down and stared out the sea.

The yelling of the millitary police surrounded him. Hounding him with questions like they owned the damn turf. Ender got up and punched the loudest motherfucker in the chest. The man went ass deep into the sand foam forming in his mouth. The other 3 tans went ghostly white as Ender's eyes met with them.

"Good," Ender fumes. his vox scrambler still projecting a monstrous voice, "you're frakking soldiers now.. who wants to die for their planet next ? "
He sat indian style on the sand. The other 2 walked away and inspected the situation elsewhere.

Ender takes his helmet on the half buried tan, and fishes out a box of smokes from his chest pocket.

"Shoot to kill next time.... "

    >Obligatory post-RP block, away!

Walker sat in his seat, watching the various feeds on the screen. The flight of pelicans touching down onto the island, soldiers in tan fanning out as soon as the doors opened. A team of doctors strode from the doors, and quickly made their way to the makeshift hospital.

Local authorities already had the island cordoned off as clean-up crews arrived in HazMat suits from offshore carriers, jumping down from their helicrafts to begin the lengthy decontamination process to rid the island of the radiation.

Not like it mattered – this island, for all it’s worth, would most likely be closed down for at least a decade before anyone decided to set up business there once more. Already, Walker saw various officers getting into heated arguments with hotel and island staff over the damage this battle had cost their company. The only reason they left the members of Bravo who had fought alone was because they had defended the island and, up until a few moments ago, were customers.

It still didn’t stop a few angry civilians from trying to get into a yelling match with his men and try to send them into guilt trips.

Walker watched with an amused expression as Dragon decked a rather loud waiter. Apparently, this waiter was due for a promotion, and decided to berate the only soldier that wasn’t armed or built like a rock.

Typical. Oh, so typical. This was the only thing he hated about civilians – businessmen and corporations, for that matter. Unable to see the big picture, unable to even comprehend what just occurred, all they cared for was money and how the actions of others inconvenienced them. They didn’t care about what was right, or about honor, or dignity. No, all they cared for was the continuation of their little world, that they were always right and everyone who believed otherwise was wrong and ought to have their head smashed in for it.

Just like this rival Executioner Force. They couldn’t see past the fact that he had formed a “treaty” with the Xenoforms. They were still bitter and angry about the damage Humanity had suffered from the beasts. Walker suspected that Lovac was the same; however, confronting him on the issue would be worthless. He wouldn’t openly admit to his face his dissent – nobody would. And the people who would, would probably do it with guns, or simply refuse to step down, and it any attempt at discourse would be met with a shouting match.

Were they all so blind as to be unable to see just how much power had been gained? Did they all honestly believe that he and his men were “bug-lovers,” or traitors to Humanity? Even though they had risked life and limb to deliver this boon to her, so that she may continue to thrive and perhaps one day, blast the Exalted from existence?

Walker ground his teeth in disgust. If he ever met this unit, he would, without any hesitation, destroy them. Grind them into the dust, destroy everything they had and everyone associated with them, and –

He stopped himself. Wasn’t this what Fierstrom wanted, back when they met up a month ago, when she asked for the death of the Hive Queen? Wasn’t it he who slapped her, and berated her, and told her that this was all for the sake of the survival of the human race, and that their jobs did not permit them to entertain one’s ego?

Wasn’t he doing the same thing she had done, so long ago, when her mother was devoured by the Hive Queen?

“Damn it, this is going to make me a bloody hypocrite, ain’t it?” Walker muttered to himself as he lit another cigar.

There was no time for petty vengeance, no time to hunt this group of dissenters and quash them. Doing so would probably just make it worse, he silently mused to himself. He sighed. He would do as he told Fierstrom – he would put his personal grudge aside. If the trail went cold, then he would abandon it. If not, he would hand the evidence to Fierstrom. It would probably be better for them to be burned in the political arena as opposed to the battlefield by his hand

Walker puffed his cigar and stared at the screen. Huh. Geist and Lost sure were spending a great deal of time together.

A single lightbulb swung in the barren concrete room. The wire that it dangled from extended upwards endlessly to a ceiling some matter of miles away. Though the wire was set to be unbreakable in this reality, it can also stand to be endless for no matter how far up one climbed they would always give in to the strain and then fall down a short distance back to the ground at the immediate sign of faltering. This prison was familiar to the two MarineDestroyers held captive, and knew of its traps. In the etha of PSICOMM, one was dreaming , so sleep was already an impossibility. But they could wait it out. Even if time slowed down to a hundred years, they could wait it out. Perhaps they can even cash in all their years to becoming an Inquisitor. That was a thought.

As they sat corner to corner, one of them looked ahead and broke out of his trance as soon as he saw a black dot squirming on the ground. And then another, and another, falling from a great height and making the puddle bigger.

A young boy, attempting to read the minds of classmates during testing. A girl, freezing puddles of water after a rain. Or maybe, even one who could see the minds of machines?

The two men got up and looked up as a red light pulsated from the distance above. The pool of black had begun to form into a bloody mass where appendages came out and then sickly turned to a pair of twin girls equipped with a pair of safety scissors each. Seeing this, one of the men plunged forward to drive a fist down on one of them. His eyes and lips twisted with an expression of mad glee as he invented things to do to her mangled body once he was done. But his fists connected to the cold concrete floor and his target was already behind him. She moved so fast that when he finally heard the machinegun snips of her scissors, pain and tearing sensations travelled down the length of his skin as he burst in half. His skin stripped bare.

    This wasn't supposed to happen.

The room lit red as blood covered the lone light bulb. The two girls advanced on the man. Moving in still shots, and flickering about without a sense of motion. These were not human poses, nor human movements. Scattered giggles assured the man that they were going to get what they wanted.

"It is done," it muttered in an amused tone, flexing it's right hand.

"Good. I would have preferred it if we could have done it physically, but I suppose your method works just as well. So long as they suffered and you managed to pull something from their rotted minds, I can't complain."

    The avatar folded his arms.

"But still, Sigma Force... I've heard nasty things about them, about the things they're rumored to do. While my boys can be ruthless in a fight, these guys are brutal and batshit insane out of it. From what I've heard, these guys are worse than the Xenoforms!"

Walker paused, then turned to Abaddon.

"No offense to you or Domino or anything."

The AI simply nodded from his throne.

"Unfortunately, this may mean that we can't touch 'em. While it wouldn't be impossible to find them and club 'em all, there would be considerable backlash for doing so, even if we managed to declare them traitors..."

Okay, so from here, we have three choices for our next mission:

    1. Kick Off - counter offense, as Orbital described it, the "big kick off behind the Iron Line." So it would have been option 3 from before.

    2. Vengeance - we go and club Sigma, most likely. Not recommended without setting up the political situation so that we don't accidentally trigger a civil war.

    3. The Push - Kruss Mission. As it says.

Personally, I prefer option 3 for the moment, just because I'm going to be rather busy this week.

I'm all for option 2, if we can manage to wipe them out without the backlash. I'd rather not have a variable factor like that still active by the time we try to launch an offensive against the Exalted. For all we know these guys might go as far as to attack us in the middle of a battle.

I'm all for option 3, but only if we do it Thursday or Saturday since they'll be the only days I'd be available to CO for it. Unless someone else wants to CO for it. Which is fine too.

Otherwise, I think we need to do something about Sigma first. If we just ignore them they could sabotage us when we least expect it and get us all killed. Like Walker said, though, that will take setting up.
    >> [CO] Col. Walker !IMYfe1j54Y 01/24/11(Mon)15:02 No.13642497
Right, for those of you curious about the potential backlash with Sigma, I'll try to explain it to you.

As Orbital described earlier, Sigma is very covert ops, and they do a lot of dirty work, as described here >>13637571

This would mean that not only are they a valuable asset to the Federation in dealing with certain unwanted domestic elements "discretely," but they are, more than likely, some politician's favorite toy.

And as made obvious by their actions and what Lovac said, it appears as if not everyone in the Federation is able to get over their personal grudges or grief against the Xenoforms - hell, Walker had to slap Fierstrom from hers as well.

So destroying them as they are now would pose a significant problem in the near future. Ignoring the possibility that Bravo may be branded traitors for our actions, destroying Sigma would likely result in a loss of favor from High Command, as well as the ire of whichever politician/group was pulling their strings. Furthermore, it would be a blow to morale, would likely cement our reputation as being "bug-lovers" or "traitors to humanity," and would likely polarize the Federation's forces between those who hate the bugs, and those who hate the Exalted more than the bugs and therefore tolerate Bravo's actions.

So in short, killing them all, which appeals to me very much, would very likely result in a civil war scenario not unlike the rebellion of the Iron Line Veterans that happened in the past (fluff that Monday mentioned).

And this isn't even the worst case scenario that I've contemplated; merely the "most-likely" scenario based on the assumption that we WON'T be hung for slaughtering another Executioner Force.

Could we use the evidence of Sigma attacking us as political ammo? Maybe not destroy Sigma completely or something like that, but investigate them and discover who sent them after us. Then, BLACKMAIL! Or, we can decide what to do after we find out who sent Sigma.

So I guess I am voting for a variation of option 2. Not elimination, but find out enough information about who ordered the attack to get them to back off. Maybe even extort some funding from them.

You say that and all I can think is what happens if we ignore them? What happens if we find ourselves in another last stand situation holed up on some rock fighting a massive swarm of bugs and then these guys hit us too? They don't even have to be on the field to mess with us. These guys are covert ops, I wouldn't be surprised if they just hacked into PsiComm and started remote hacking our people.
These guys are too big a threat to just ignore, but that doesn't mean we have to kill them. We could get dirt on them or whoever is pulling their strings and get them to back off that way. We could bring up this attack against us with High Command without pointing fingers. If Sigma knows we know it was them that attacked it should put them on edge. Make them wonder why we wouldn't immediately turn them in. There's all kinds of things we can do to deal with Sigma without triggering a civil war.

    >And now for something completely different!

Eight in ten. That's how many naturally born children are inducted into CORE training when they turn five. The chance was slime, but it meant at least some children got to lead relatively peaceful lives. They could have a family if they wanted, raise children, grow old. Do all the things humans have wanted to do since they first crawled out of the mud. Even if the world around them was little more than ruins. Even if they had to labor day in and day out to fuel the war effort that kept them alive. These civilians could at least sleep soundly at night, secure in their underground bunkers. Safe from the ever present conflict on Kruss' surface.

Clones like Polaski, however, have no such chance. The men that had come to take him from the family unit he'd been given too were not unkind. They waited with relative patience as he said goodbye to the women that had raised him like a mother, as he said goodbye to the dozen other children that had been like brothers and sisters. Polaski would always remember the way the baby had cried when he'd finally had to pull his finger from her hand. She had been the only one to cry when he left. The only one that hadn't seen brothers and sisters leave before.

The elevator shuddered and groaned as it descended deeper into the planets surface. Polaski asked the men what was going to happen to him. Neither of them answered or showed any sign that they had even heard the question. It was the same answer he always got when he asked about the CORE training. People either didn't know, didn't care, or wouldn't tell him. It made Polaski nervous, not knowing, but there was nothing he could do. So he stared at the door and waited.

Eventually the elevator ground a halt, the whole thing shuddering as long worn out breaks stopped the decent. As he picked himself up off the floor, Polaski failed to notice how the two men pressed themselves against the sides of the elevator. The doors screeched as they opened, revealing what looked like a park. A park where someone had burnt all the grass, toppled and charred all the trees, gouged out large craters in the ground, broken half the rooms lighting, and scorched, dinged, and otherwise destroyed the normally pristine steel walls and ceiling. There was barely enough time to take it all in when the first bullet flew past the boys ear and pinged off the back of the elevator.

Polaski froze with fear as the bullets whizzed past him. He couldn't see who was shooting at him. Only the muzzle flash of a dozen different guns. “Run!” one of the men finally shouted, risking a limb to push Polaski out of the elevator. It was all the start the boy needed and he began to run forward, blind with fear. Ran, as the ground around him was peppered with weapons fire. He didn't make it far before he tripped over his own feet and tumbled to the ground. As he pushing himself back up, scrapped and bruised, Polaski noticed a ditch not far in front of him. Trembling, he crawled through the storm of bullets and rolled into the small depression. There, in relative safety, Polaski curled into a ball and cried.

    buuuuuuump.

Also Orbital, are we still following the rule where achieving a spec class also awards one additional life?

Another bump, because I want to get around to writing more stuff and/or getting some pretty pictures in.

Also, for those of you who want to know, we are currently sitting on 406 points - 203 for ground/naval, respectively.

And no, I didn't buy anyone a new meatsuit. That's the price you have to pay for going on a vacation without me.

after running some simulation rolls , Im changing the raptor's Cleave rating to a flat 7. So a long string of uninterrupted 7s yields the desireable amount of damage output.

this is temporary for now. As we will soon be retooling spec classes to balance with basic units.

    >>13667159

That's cool. Do the raptors also have a SMITE attack?

Also, do you think that it might be better to simply wait until all the spec classes are unlocked before retooling them, so we can get a feel for what works and what doesn't, or are you doing simulated rolls?

Oh yeah, bump, because I want to see this thread alive for a week.
