254 KB The Case Files of Castus "30 Meter" Murphy Pt. 2 30 Meter Murphy 01/27/11(Thu)15:01 No.13680077
    Greetings heretics!

Some of you will remember the storytime from 2 weeks ago of a plucky band of Dark Heresy acolytes. For those that don't here's the link: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/13510539/

Anyway, more was promised at the end of the thread. My modem went derp last week, so here it is now.

I actually missed one of the weekly sessions, so the GM ran what was supposed to be a two session mission to the feudal world of Acreage. There, they discovered a Thantan infiltration. The dirty xenos were apparently setting up a beachhead to conquer the planet and the team got involved. They were also apparently taken by a shyster of a boat captain that charged them five times as much as they should’ve paid to get across a lake. Long story short, they beat the mini-campaign in one session and the Moritat, Mar, died fighting the xenos (the player was kind of getting bored of him) and Flair the psyker picked up a Thantan gun that could punch serious holes in walls.

On the team’s return from Acreage, they rendezvous with a ship from the Adeptus Mechanicus. Castus Murphy rejoins them after serving several months as a bodyguard for Magus Burr, a high ranking tech-priest who rolls around on squeaky little wheels. In return, Murphy was given a… (dramatic pause) Spectre-Pattern Autogun with red dot because he wanted to be useful at ranges outside of 30 meters. And it has a fire selector for shotgun setting, so his buckshot fixation could remain intact. He resolved to name the gun after its first combat engagement.

Also along the way, Flair was reassigned to “resanctioning” (as a way of explaining that he couldn’t be there) and the ship returns to Scintilla.

On the Gorgon, Murphy, Roth (the crazy pants 50 year old psyker) and a Metallican Gunslinger Dorn (Mar’s new character) meet with Inquisitor Globus Vaarick. It’s new mission time. Inquisitor Vaarick has an old friend on Scintilla, Fleet Admiral Laurent Strophes. It seems Strophes’ daughter, Julia, has gone missing for a few days and he’s requested a team to help find her. There’s a new cult on the world that she’s been involved with called the Joyous Choir, which hasn’t been approved by the proper authorities. They have odd (and likely heretical) notions that everyone has a right to be Happy and Joyous. As such, its quite popular with the younger members of the aristocracy. We are to go undercover as members of Strophes’ household, investigate and report back. Subtlety is key, Vaarick stresses.

The details are that we will go to Hive Sibellus and pose as noble family members. Roth, being the oldest, will pose as a noble from Mycene. Dorn & Murphy will be his bodyguards/personal retinue. We get an advance of 7500 Thrones for expenses and Roth gets a fancy pants coat with a constantly glowing, swirling galaxy pattern on it. Emperor knows what kind of effect it has on his addled mind.

The team takes a shuttle down to one of the nicer parts of the hive. The architecture features a lot of marble, gold and typically enormous statues. Its no difficulty getting to Strophes’ estate and the team is introduced to our contact.

Laurent Strophes is dressed in an old Battlefleet Scarus uniform. Murphy, having been born on a warship, salutes the old soldier smartly. Strophes has an extremely nice mechanical arm, a plasma pistol at his hip and a best quality augmented eye. After some basic introductions and pleasantries, the old warhorse fills us in on the next part. He’s hired a bounty hunter named Harlon Nayl to investigate things and it might be a good idea to meet up with him. We could also go to the Joyous Temple itself in the upper hive and take a look around. Then he goes on about how much he misses his daughter and how much she means to him. He works himself up into a rage and emphatically smashes his mechanical arm through an expensive table, reducing it to splinters. “Woodhouse!” he screams. “Fetch me another table!” From another room, an elderly servant answers with a feeble “Yes sir.”

We decide to find Nayl at the Barking Saint pub in the Middle Hive. The pub is built out of the head of a giant dog statue. Quaint.

At the door, a street urchin stops us and explains the rules of Equal Draw. What that means is any fight in the bar has to be on equal terms. For example, if somebody pulls a knife on you, its poor etiquette to pull a melta on him. Poor etiquette that will get everybody else in the bar opening up on you with whatever they’ve got. Quaint.
    >> 30 Meter Murphy 01/27/11(Thu)15:25 No.13680327
    >>13680292
We go up to the bar and ask for Nayl. We’re told to go to Lucy. Lucy leads us into the back room. Sitting behind a table, smoking a pipe is a bald, tough old bastard with a leather coat, bolt pistol, sword, a facial scar and a medium quality augmented eye. “Strophes sent you?” he asks.

We nod yes and he fills us in on what he knows so far. The girl went into the temple four days ago and never came back out. That kind of thing tends to happen there. “Lots of rich folk go in, some don’t come out. Apparently a lot go down to Ambulon Hive for “Instruction.” Nayl also informs us that the Temple is going to throw a party for newcomers soon. He tells Roth that he can get a fake invite from a crook named Snoozy or we could go to a lady named Miriam at the Joyous Choir temple two levels down and get an actual, legal invitation. Snoozy is supposed to be one hell of a good forger, but he ain’t cheap.

We thank him for the info and pledge to tell Strophes about what we’ve learned. As we leave, a bar fight breaks out because that’s what’s expected of these kinds of places. Someone punches Dorn in the head, but his helmet shrugs it off. Dorn gives the guy a dirty look and he backs off. The same thing happens to Murphy and the thug apologizes with a meek “Sorry buddy.”

Nayl fires two bolter shots into the ceiling to stop the fight. Large chunks of stone and a lighting fixture crash to the floor. “We got money’d gentlemen in the bar,” he barks. “Any of you assholes want to start some trouble, start it with me.”

The bar calms down and we leave unscathed. Its decided to try Miriam since, well, its cheaper. Two levels down, she’s preaching in a modest branch of the Joyous Choir. She seems honest and personable. We wait in the back of the church for her to finish. Roth rolls psyniscience and surprisingly fails, detecting nothing.
    >> 30 Meter Murphy 01/27/11(Thu)15:34 No.13680413
    >>13680371
Murphy steps outside and talks to a guy waiting outside about the place. His name is Joe, he’s a dock worker and he says the sect has turned his life around. Joe can’t say enough good things about Miriam and talks Murphy’s ear off about how great the cult is. Inside, the service winds down with a traditional benediction. Joe, eager to show off his connections to his new “friends” brings Miriam over. She’s dressed in modest lay clothing. “Greetings brothers,” she says.

Roth talks to her for a bit about how he’s curious about the new sect. Miriam crows over how great the sect is and if he’s interested in learning more, she can arrange for invitations to be sent to his residence for the party tomorrow night. It’ll be great to spread the word to another Strophes.
    >> 30 Meter Murphy 01/27/11(Thu)15:40 No.13680472
    >>13680413
Roth politely thanks her and we return to stately Strophes mansion. Invitations for “Roth Strophes” and 2 associates arrive. We report what we’ve learned to Strophes.

“Excellent work! I knew I could trust Vaarick’s men. By the Emperor, we’ll get to the bottom of this!” Strophes enthusiastically pounds his fist through another table. “Woodhouse!!” he screams.

“I’ll get another table from the closet, sir,” the servant replies.

At these kinds of parties, only pistols and primitive melee weapons are permitted, which means we won’t be able to bring our heavy guns along. This isn’t an issue for Dorn, who’s a pistolier and Roth has a handgun too, but Murphy isn’t trained in pistols. Quaint.

Strophes lends Murphy a shotgun pistol for the party. Murphy unslings his three weapons: the as-yet unnamed Spectre Autogun, the unreliable Sawed Off hatefully dubbed “Piece of Shit” and finally, Murphy carefully hands Strophes his beloved pump action Jezebel. “Take care of her while I’m gone,” Murphy says, trying not to get misty eyed.

The team also gets vox beads to stay in contact with Nayl who will be covering the party from outside in case we need support.
    >> 30 Meter Murphy 01/27/11(Thu)15:47 No.13680534
    >>13680501
The night of the party arrives and we arrive at the Joyous Choir building. It is a gilded, fancy, friendly building with a conspicuous absence of skulls in the artwork. This is incredibly suspicious to the acolytes. There are two armed guards at the door equipped with las carbines, hell pistols and durable (if ostentatious) armor. They are scanning each guest with a handheld device called a “Joy Meter” to determine how happy they are. We walk up. Murph & Dorn both register as blue. Roth is purple and dings three times.

“Congratulations, brother,” one of the guards says. “You are true!”

    “Wow, that’s awesome,” Roth answers.

“That IS awesome!” the guard beams. “All the true go to a special party!”

“Um, great?” Roth says and we go inside. Indoors, it is darkly lit and a lot of rich people mill about in bright clothing. We also spot Miriam in the corner trying to fit in. We decide to mingle.

Murphy goes over and talks to one of the bodyguards. The guy’s name is Tom and he works for Lady Marta, a posh noblewoman who’s in high society. He finds out that Julia Strophes hung around with Lady Marta quite a bit before her disappearance. The rest of the conversation involves the usual bitching about employers.

Roth rolls psyniscience and notices a lack of things and feels the connection to the Warp dampened in this room. He also notices psy dampers built into the walls. Roth goes over to Miriam and thanks her for the tickets. He finds out that a man named Jonas Carol runs the sect and that “trues” get sent to Ambulon, a highly prestigious thing, since that’s where the sect started. Julia became true, so she’s probably on Ambulon. Small talk drifts to discussing other partygoers. There’s a high ranking fleet officer, an actor named Tanon, the aforementioned Lady Marta and a new member to the choir, the androgynous Spirit Daneen.

A bell goes off and someone announces “Time for the performances!”
    >> 30 Meter Murphy 01/27/11(Thu)15:53 No.13680604
    >>13680565
The crowd is shuttled down a hallway and Roth notices his psyker abilities greatly reduced. We check in with Nayl and fortunately, the micro beads still work. We enter an auditorium and the crowd shuffles around happily before settling down into their seats.

The actor from earlier goes up on stage and announces the performance of “The Lament of St. Eresine,” the dramatic tale of a saint who preached that you have to suffer for the Emperor. As he’s watching this performance, he realizes its not at all like the versions he’s seen on the vids before. This is a thinly veiled festival of carnal delights being done before a live audience. The play ends with the actor standing up and shouting joyously “The only true happiness is focused upon the self!”

As a few servitors come out to mop up the fluids and…other fluids on the stage, the team is pretty damn sure this is some serious heresy going on.

After the play, someone gets up and says “Let us serve the farcosia.” Side doors open up with servants bringing shot glasses. Older members abstain, but the younger ones eagerly take them. Psyniscience reveals to Roth that the stuff has a strong psychic resonance. Basically psyker roofies. Spirit looks at his/her/its glass and pours it in a plant then takes a puff off a long cigarette.

Roth talks to Lady Marta. “You must be the Strophes I’ve heard about,” she says. Then she tries to take him into the True Room. Roth backs away from the conversation and talks to Spirit.
    >> 30 Meter Murphy 01/27/11(Thu)15:59 No.13680664
    >>13680643
“They’re children playing an adult game,” Spirit says, taking another long puff. Spirit is a creepy, hedonistic “fellow.” It touches Roth on the arm, who immediately feels powerful psyker juju and is wracked with intense pleasure in the span of 6 seconds. In essence, he just came several times and collapsed to the floor in an ecstatic, albeit extremely confused, heap.

After getting up and promising never to let Spirit touch him again, Roth says its time to go. We get to one of the fire doors nearest the True Room and Roth has no psyker powers at all. We also note the door is alarmed. We vox up to Nayl to verify if he can see our location and ask for a diversion.

The diversion turns out to be a firebomb launched through the window. Naturally, panic breaks out along with a fire and we discreetly hustle out the fire door.

As we leave through the fire exit, we notice that Spirit is very unconcerned about the fire. Well, more accurately, the…thing seems to be enjoying it. We also noticed that as soon as the place got lit up, a chunky fellow in a gray robe left the True Room accompanied by a tall man in another gray robe and carrying an axe. They’re obviously looking for someone who happens to be us.

Nayl pops off a few shots to distract them and the big guy’s head snaps up in the merc’s direction and in one quick motion fires off a few shots from a las pistol. Roth picks up some definite psyker vibes from this witch.

As we run away trying to not look important or responsible, we vox up to Nayl. He’s more than a bit busy with the witch on his tail and has been hit a few times. He tells us to get back to Strophes and he’ll keep the witch occupied.

We return to Strophes’ mansion looking worse for wear. Laurent looks at us as we collapse onto his furniture from running and asks “What’s going on?”

Roth catches his breath and says “You’re gonna need a new table.”

The situation is explained to Strophes, who duly punches through a fresh table that Woodhouse brings out. Then we vox up to Inquisitor Vaarak, who tells us it could be a Slaaneshi cult. It’s also decided that we need to get to Ambulon to figure out what’s going on. Laurent recommends we sleep on it.

Morning. At a rather nice brunch, we hear from Nayl. The guy’s still alive after spending the night having a running shootout with the witch. He’s also come into the possession of some information from inside the Choir’s burned out building. He wants to meet us in Tumble Market.
    >> 30 Meter Murphy 01/27/11(Thu)16:24 No.13680921
    >>13680916
We go there, fully armed this time, and see the merc by a statue of St. Eresine in the center of the market. Nayl looks a little worse for wear, but he’s holding a slightly scorched wooden case. Before we can talk to the guy, Dorn spots the witch from earlier up on a roof aiming a long las at us.

Roth weapon jinxes the witch and then blurs himself. Putting the gun down, the witch IGNITES Nayl.

    >>13680921
After spouting some appropriately shocked profanity, Murphy opens up with the Spectre, pinning the witch into cover.

Nayl, still on fire, identifies the witch as a rogue psyker named Theodosius. The witch tries to do…something bad to us and rolls a bunch of nines. Its off to the Bad Things Chart. We groan in anticipation because the last time that happened, one of our own psykers had to burn a fate point to prevent becoming a Daemonhost as he tried to heal Murphy.
    >> 30 Meter Murphy 01/27/11(Thu)16:34 No.13681010
    >>13680958
Lucky for us, the Bad Things Chart doesn’t kill us. Instead, it Soul Sears Theodosius, which is even luckier for us, since he can’t rape us with psyker abilities, and he knows it. The witch bugs out of there with Dorn firing a few shots after him.

We drag Nayl into a nearby alley. He is no longer on fire and pulls out a stimm injector, shoots up and starts to bandage himself up.

“You tell Strophes I want a ticket off this mudball. I’m moving on.” Nayl also wants to unload the box on us, but for a non-negotiable sum of 1200 Thrones, cash on the barrel, paid immediately.

We ask him what’s in it and find out its got some data slates with important files. We decide to fork over the 1200 and Nayl gets up because he’s a character from the novels and refuses to die in some dipshit’s DH game, and proceeds to stumble away and mumbling about how much he hates witches.
    >> 30 Meter Murphy 01/27/11(Thu)16:38 No.13681058
    >>13681010
We take the box into a little back room of an abandoned building and examine it. There is a sound from the entrance and we turn to see Spirit standing there with 6 goons. He/she/it demands the box. Roth rolls psyniscience and looks at Spirit. The Warp shows that Spirit is human, or at least partly so. About half of its body is wrapped up with an odd, clawed androgynous creature. Oh great, he/she’s possessed by a Daemonette.

    Well fuck.
    >> 30 Meter Murphy 01/27/11(Thu)16:45 No.13681130
    >>13681058
Spirit doesn’t order the goons to attack immediately, so we ask why it wants the data. Turns out Spirit was sent to investigate the Joyous Choir by its own superiors, as the cult sure sounded Slaaneshi, but didn’t actually have a Slaaneshi presence. Spirit also says that there’s no need for things to become violent, since we’re all after the same thing: Information about the Joyous Choir.

Cue Acolyte huddle. Dealing with something that is obviously daemonic is a bad thing. A very bad, dangerous, extra heretical thing to do. If anybody were to find out we were even CONSIDERING a deal with a daemonette, it would be a one-way ticket to BLAM-town.

On the other hand, there is no way we can take this thing on and survive. We don’t have the skills or the blessed ammunition to even hurt Spirit, so fighting would lead to a guaranteed painful death. We’d like to avoid death, especially since our job’s not done.

We make our decision and take the seven Corruption points and agree to look at the data together. Sure, it’s morally questionable, but we’re still alive.

Turns out the cult is definitely not Slaaneshi. Its run by a man named Jonas Carol, a con man who’s been running a bunch of other schemes. He happens to be backed by the Serrated Query crime syndicate. Oh, and there’s a note about farcosia. Yeah. It’s distilled psyker brains. Ew.

Spirit got what it wanted and with a flourish, it exited the building with its goons. It even had the politeness to leave the data slates for us.

We sulk our way back to Strophes with the data and give him the bad news that her daughter was taken by the cult and her brain is likely filtering through some decadent noble’s kidneys as we speak. A few more tables get smashed, accompanied by a few manly tears.

A call is made up to Globus. We give our inquisitor the rundown (and omitting the deal with Spirit Daneen). Vaarak decides its time for serious action and we need to cut out the heart of this cult on Ambulon.

Unfortunately, Ambulon is also very important for Scintilla and Sector-Governor Hax would not take kindly to our suggestion that we glass the huge walking city from orbit. A support force will be sent down to Sibellus the following morning and we’re all getting some blessed ammunition to help deal with demonic threats and some other gear.

Now he finally feels like a proper member of the Adeptus Arbites.

Murphy has also carved the name “Clementine” into the stock of the Spectre-Pattern, since it acquitted itself nicely in pinning that damn witch.

We are then called up to the Inquisitor’s office for a mission briefing on the Ambulon operation. There’s no question, the cult must be purged. Our boss has also arranged for some help for us. In walks a woman wearing simple robes over power armour. She looks to be in her 50s (though is much older) and introduces herself as Reverend Mother Karen Murphy. 30 Meter shuffles uncomfortably in his seat and says “Hi aunt Karen.”

Inquisitor Globus Vaarak clears his throat awkwardly. We shut up. Sister Murphy and a squad of Battle Sisters will be accompanying us on our purge. The rest of the sisters are waiting at the

(NOTE, the GM chose Karen/Karrin Murphy as a SoB solely for the reason that he’s a huge fan of the Dresden Files. That it managed to give a little bit of character development to my character was totally secondary)

The briefing continues: Ambulon is a city that walks like a giant bronze beetle, wandering the deserts of Scintilla mining for ores. Everybody on Ambulon has a job. On the plus side, we don’t need to worry about cover stories, since we’re going in hot.

The chapter house of the Joyous Choir is a 3 story building in the upper hive portion. The inquisitor would prefer to keep the witch, Theodosius, alive for interrogation. He hands us a small cube with a dial on the top. It’s a Null Grenade that will stun any psyker that it hits for about 6 hours. Roth doesn’t like the look of it.

    >>13681463
We get to the shuttle, an Aquila Lander. There are three sororitas waiting with heavy bolters, bolt pistols and short, curved blades. Bitches are hardcore. Aunt Karen is wearing a more ornate set of power armour and has 1 bolt pistol, 1 inferno pistol, a jetpack and a 2 handed power axe. She’s a celestian.

We depart and discuss the firepower capabilities of the shuttle. It’s got some serious guns. We consider air striking the Joyous Choir, which, while funny, is not the course decided upon (we’d get WAY less XP)

It’s decided to find the building and case the joint. We land, disembark with the expendable sisters and aunt Karen will stay with the lander to provide air support should we need it.

Ambulon is a series of gangways and skywalks. The setup is somewhat communal, with habs opening into each other and the “streets” and the city moves around a lot on its legs, meaning we’re at a -10 to ALL dodge checks.

We find the building and start investigating. There are a lot of men in gray robes and occasional guards wearing carapace armour & carrying auto guns going in and out the front door. We spot 2 street urchins pushing a cleaning cart. We also spot Jonas Carol entering the building accompanied by heavy guard. There are some stained glass windows, but we can’t see inside the building. The main doors look heavy.

One of the sisters notices anti-breaching charges on the reinforced doors. It’s a reinforced bunker of a building. Roth rolls psyniscience and what seems like 3 stories to the blunts is much, much bigger in the warp with bad juju surrounding it. It appears as a big temple with warp harpies roosting in the many towers. This is a Nexus, a place where the Warp has been legitimately brought closer to reality. He also just knows that the building is going to be bigger on the inside than the outside, because the Warp fucks Euclidean Geometry.

The first floor is a big lobby, the second floor is a lot of little habs, the third floor is a big open room where the “drawings” are done and the fourth floor the urchins haven’t been up to, but a lot of stained clothes come from up there. There’s also a basement, where a big, scary guy who they describe as “like a space marine” often talks with his friend, the white-eyed witch Theodosius. Recently, they were arguing about money and the witch was apparently badly hurt by the other guy’s “arguments.”

We vox up to Karen to fill her in. She suggests that she goes with us and the 3 sisters go through the front with any goons we can hire while we acolytes go through the back door we convinced the urchins to leave unlocked. Figuring that’s a good plan, we go to a nearby tavern and haggle over some prices. We hire 10 decent goons to go with the 3 sisters through the front door.

Over the vox, Karen proposes she perform a “Crazy St. Katherine” in which she would use all the weapons on the lander, then ramming the front doors with it, using her jetpack to escape the explosion, presumably while wearing sunglasses.

We get into position and get ready for the fight. Roth rolls Sense Presence. There are 5 people in the lobby.

Around front, the Fodder level their autoguns and fire on the front door. A bunch of enemy minions move to reinforce the entrance, bringing the defenders to about 20 guys in carapace armour and autoguns.

While fire is being exchanged, we hear the lander scream out of the sky, guns blazing. Aunt Karen turns the lander around and fires the rockets at the door, killing a large number of enemies and about half of our goons in the process. She flies off, pulls a Crazy Ivan turn and rams the lander full speed into the front entrance. She herself lands safely by us and we enter the back door. As we do, she shouts “Sisters, begin the purge!” into the vox. Both arms advance into the lobby, which is all kinds of fucked. Filled with massive death, destruction and chunks of lander, the building is seriously damaged, but still stable enough to keep standing. The expendables cover the lobby as we enter the basement.

In the basement, we see Theodosius chained up and psi-blocked. Karen hits him with her gun to wake him up. After some interrogation, we find out that Karskin (aka “Jonas Carol”) is the guy in charge (and by his description, he matches that Chaos cleric who fled from us when we fought the Surgeon). Karskin is also working for/with a Thousand Sons Marine named Maddox. Karen kneels and begins to pray. Theo here works for the Query Syndicate to keep an eye on their interests.

We drag Theo up and leave him with the sisters to keep an eye on him (and preferably alive for our boss). The acolyte team moves to the 2nd floor. Roth senses 4 signatures on the floor. He rolls psyniscience and senses that he inside the belly of the beast, quite literally. He also sees 4 lights on the floor.

There’s a hallway leading down to a larger room that connects to the next stairway. Murphy tosses a frag grenade, fails a little bit at it and only manages to hit 1 guy for a lot of damage.

Karen goes next and clicks her bolt pistol to flamer mode and fills the room with hot promethium. 1 guy is set on fire and dies. Roth weapon jinxes 1 guy. Dorn moves up to Karen. 2 goons manage to get some shots off but miss. Murphy moves up and pops off a round at 1 guy and hits. Karen charges with her axe and hits 1 enemy, which is enough to wreck his day and splits him in two.

Roth pain wracks 1 enemy and shoots him with a hand cannon. Dorn kills another and the last man drops his gun and surrenders.

Murphy unslings Jezebel from his back and walks up, shaking his head. “Son, you’ve made some poor life decisions.” Boom. Red mist.

We move to the 3rd floor. Roth rolls for psyker flash bang, hits a 9, then a 73. Everybody in 3 meters is affected with Frenzy and the party each gains 1 corruption point. Murphy is stunned by the flash bang, but so are a bunch of minions. Karen guts one of them with her axe.

Roth shoots a guard behind cover, spending a fate point to hit with a hand cannon on a called shot to the head, but the guard remains standing.

We hear very loud, angry footsteps and OH SHIT, its Maddox’s turn. A massive space marine with a glowing force sword and a really tall helmet rounds the corner and charges Roth. Luckily, it’s a double, since Roth has made it a point to make illusory doubles for every situation. Dorn, frenzied, charges the Chaos Marine, firing 2 pistols, both of which miss.

Karen looks at the Thousand Son, looks at Murphy and says “Take your men and go to the fourth floor.” She then engages the marine in an epic melee duel. Not needing to be told twice, we high-tail it upstairs.

    >>13682034
As we rush upstairs, we vox down to the sisters to send 2 of them up to help Karen and leave 1 with the psyker.

On the 4th floor, we see a giant Chaos Altar and some henchmen. We also see the Chaos cleric Karskin holding a chainsword and bolt pistol, which is leveled at Spirit Daneen, who is holding a silvery sword and gun. Spirit says “You’ve stolen enough power. I’m here to stop you.” Looks like we’ve stumbled upon a Mexican Standoff.

Roth rolls psyniscience and sees 2 big ol’ holes in the Warp. Great, 2 Warp portals. We remember we have a Null Grenade, which would likely do a number on a Warp Portal.

We also hear a victory roar from downstairs.

Taking advantage of still not being noticed, Dorn opens up on the henchmen, spending a fate point to hit 2 guys very hard. Then all hell breaks loose.

Spirit swings and misses Karskin. Murphy goes full auto with Clementine, wounding 2 more henchmen. Roth caps 1 goon with his pistol, and Karskin manages to hit Spirit with the chainsword, causing him/her/it to reel. 2 of the surviving goons flee into Warp portals.

The door to the stairway swings open and Maddox appears in the frame (it’s a big door). Before anyone can react, a kick sends the giant over, the armour clattering to the ground. Aunt Karen stands there, supported by 2 sisters. She is missing a leg. She is fuming with wild-eyed rage and lets loose another bellow of rage that matches the one we heard earlier. Girl’s got some pipes.

Dorn moves & shoots at Spirit, blowing out a leg. Spirit gives him a hurt look and says “I thought we were friends!” Spirit hops towards its portal and jumps in. It closes behind it.

Karskin dodges some blessed bullets from Clementine. Roth also misses.

Fortunately, the 2 sisters fire full auto on the cleric. Both hit and he goes down in a hurry. Nothing left but wet giblets.

Roth eyes up Maddox’s force sword and succeeds on a Warp Lore roll. It’s a Daemon Weapon and very bad for anyone’s health. He decides to “confiscate” it, eventually hoping to cleanse it through the proper Inquisitorial channels. What could possibly go wrong with this plan?

He looks up from Karskin at the remaining Warp Portal and flips it off.

The GM looks at me and asks if that’s what I do. I say yeah, it’s been a long day.

“Roll to dodge,” he says impassively.

I blink at him and go “Oh. Well shit.”

A voice booms “You have angered the Warp” and a very large, very eldritch tentacle pops out of the portal and makes a swipe at Murphy. Somehow he succeeds his dodge roll and jumps out of the way with a startled yelp.

The Sisters proceed to advance on the portal, firing everything they’ve got into it and ultimately smashing it.

30 Meter Murphy, shaking a little bit, looks down at Jezebel, kisses it like it was a Holy Relic, and realizes what he’s just done. He flipped off the Warp and lived to tell the tale. He pumps his fist in the air triumphantly.

    Overall a good day.

    Case Closed.

It should be noted that Jezebel has never missed, never jammed and always gotten at least some shifts of success. And it is a standard issue Pump-Action Shotgun.

Nothing else I've ever used in the game has been as reliable.

If I had failed on the dodge and been grabbed by the Warp, my dying act would've been to throw the shotgun to one of my team and tell them to keep it safe.

I wish I had more of Murphy & Co.'s exploits, but since that adventure ended, our gaming group hasn't had time to do anything.

On the other hand, people's schedules are freeing up now and the GM is trying to get a time for a bunch of us to start up a game of Rogue Trader.

And don't you worry. If & When Rogue Trader happens, I'm taking massive notes on it. As for Murphy himself, I think surviving to Rank 5 and essentially winning at DH has earned him a comfortable semi-retirement.
Besides, I've got a Seneschal rolled up for Rogue Trader.

Oh yeah, and if any drawfags out there want a crack at 30 Meter's crowning moment, it should be noted that he's a voidborn that stands almost 2 meters tall and weighs all of 75 kg. The guy's a stick

Ravenor. He's one of the main characters. A bounty hunter, no less. Dunno why he changed the name, Vorlin Orday always struck me as a fine name.

I did enjoy your GM's rendition of Laurent Strophes though. He was a fair bit more reserved in my game (until a mercenary kill team broke into his home and tried to kill everyone, eat least) and Julia was still alive and kicking, her cousin being the one that got nabbed for brain distilling. Julia ended up treating the whole mission like a game, helping the acolytes shop for finery and generally giggling, until she got hooked on farcosia, informed just WHAT she'd drunk and spent the rest of mission hiding away with a case of hysteria.

As for Strophes, yeah, he kinda became one of our favorite NPCs. The whole table-breaking thing was kind of a groupthink conclusion
