Good time of a day/night for you, elegan/tg/entlemen. It is a good time as any to create a Ghost Spaceship random generator.

Let us begin with the question: what kind of ghost spaceship the travellers encounter?

    1) a trader ship adrift a 15-20 lightyears off the nearest trade route
    2) a giant cargo transport that never reached his destination on the edge of a system
    3) a line battleship well-hidden in strategic position inside of the asteroid belt
    4) a "spaceforce number one" of a certain subsector whose on the last leg of the route to galactic capitol
    5) spaceship of unknown design and purpose, lying on the dark side of the moon
    >> Omegon 01/30/11(Sun)06:48 No.13714617
    6) Space station orbiting a black hole
    7) Luxury yacht lying on the bottom of the ocean
    8) Mining ship slowly falling down onto the broken planet it mined
    9) Ship-arc, still plummeting through the void but hopelessly off-course
    10) A military shipyard in the asteroir belt, where there isn't supposed to be one
    >> Anonymous 01/30/11(Sun)06:52 No.13714645
    rolled 9 = 9

I'm going to cheat a bit.
    >> Omegon 01/30/11(Sun)06:58 No.13714677
Erm... i was kinda hoping that collective will help me get the table at least to 20... but anyway

Next question as follows: when spacefaring explorers align their speed to that of a legendary ship-arc, that aeons ago set out to find a new home for the hundred of thousands of people aboard, what do they detect from the distance?
    >> Omegon 01/30/11(Sun)07:13 No.13714739
    1) Holes in the hull, obviously made by asteroid impacts
    2) Broken parts of the hull orbiting the ship
    3) Several figures in space suits, that are affixed by chains to the hull; scanners cannot detect any lifesigns inside
    4) parts of the ship's hull are reflective; that is certainly not how it was designed; scans reveal changed composure of the material
    5) Several asteroids are flying in formation with the ship; for some reason they are all connected together
    >> Omegon 01/30/11(Sun)07:35 No.13714842
    6) Several new, piramid-like structures have been added to the hull of the ship; some of them are clearly unfinished
    7) In th wake of the ship follows the rainbow luminescence; scans doesn't help to make any sens of it - at least, on this distance
    8) Electric discharges are seen on the hull of the ship
    9) For some reason, measuring the distance is proving to the difficult; instrumentation returns varying and conflicting data about position of the ship (conflicining - as in, different position in differet specteres etc)
    10) parts of the ship's structure are missing; as if someone carefully dismantled the ship and put it together without them

It seriously took you 22 minutes to write that?
I can't tell if you're trying to run a quest or trying to get people to make content for you. Either way, you'll get more attention with pictures. Preferably spaceships.

    Don't have good ones (

    11) holes in the hull, obviously made by impact detonations
    12) parts of hull are, for some reason, budged
    13) Hull is covered in giant sized arcane symbols/incantations; spectrum analisys shows they are made with organic components
    14) There are visibly signs of battel on hull, that were hastly repaired from the view of things
    15) Viewscreens of the ship are absolutely black; they do not radiate on any frequency., as far as the scanners can tell

    Please do

    16) around the ship, like an escort, fly in orderly fashion hundreds of caskets, each, as the scans reveal, outfitted with still working magnetic vectoring unit, that are correcting the formation
    17) there is a gieant figurehead, apparently constructed from material removed from other parts of the ship
    18) ship's hull is pierced in several place by boarding torpedoes; some of them are still there
    19) ship is transmitting a lullaby on all or some waves
    20) for no apparent reason ship shooks violently, and changes its course and rotation; it repeats with regular intervals, when observed for a long time
    >> Indonesian Gentleman 01/30/11(Sun)08:44 No.13715173
Oh, how I do love space derelict horrors. Let me expand the first ten:

    11) a piece of a gigantic space station, which also betray its alien origins
    12) an asteroid; but scans show that it's been hollowed out and used as a base or outpost
    13) a gigantic mazelike labyrinth beneath a planet's surface
    14) a mass of organic material surrounding an unidentified hull floating in a nebula
    15) an abandoned colony in a remote ice/desert/jungle planet
    16) a massive planet-killing kamikaze ship in the ancient debris fields
    17) a mass of anomalous space debris clumped together
    18) a chunk of planet crust transformed into an arkship slowly drifting across space
    19) a debris field containing several small ships of unknown design
    20) an abandoned naval ship in space (think of titanic, but somehow it's found in the asteroid belt)
    >> Omegon 01/30/11(Sun)08:53 No.13715218
    21) from all angles all surfaces of ships are lit evenly; there are no shadows at all
    22) scans reveal a substantial percentage of hull's surface is covered with organic material
    23) gravity readings provide inconsistent data about mass of the ship - as if it is changing, increasing and decreasing without accompanying changes of speed/momentum, which is clearly impossible
    24) there are lots of window frames or viewports on the ship, but no window glass; not even a shard - all of them lead directly into the open space
    24) there are giant scratch marks on the hull
    25) ship is detectable only in visible spectrum; as far as non-visual scanners are concerned, there is no ship

    26) First structural scans indicate that the ship is split along the middle, chopped into two parts, but the cut did not cause the parts to drift away from each other
    27) The ship transmits binary numbers. It is just counting upwards, but the current number is so huge that it's transmitting for 20 hours already.
    28) It appears to be a large ship from the outside, but it's just the hull - empty inside. It does not seem to be built this way.

    26) ship can only be approached at a single angle; speeding up or losing speed doesn't cause the ship to run forward or fall backwards; no matter how many attempts to circle around it are made, seen part of the ship doesn't changes; all probes sent to circle it are lost after launch
    27) scanning can't seem to resolve details of ship's surface; if data are to be believed, ship is a perfectly flat surfece limited by its outline
    28) there are several layers of paintjob on the ship, all partiallylost; different heraldycs are depicted on different layers
    29) ship's shields are up, but they switch off and then go up again in regular intervals
    30) ship's hull is in pristine condition; as if it left the port a couple of hours ago instead of a couple of millenias (centuries)

Space Station 13 near the end of a "bad" round can be rather creepy. Blood and hull breaches everywhere, no EVA suits left, not even any spare breath masks and oxygen tanks to find. Surprisingly few corpses, and there will be more bombs and syndicates with revolvers, god forbid you find some alien weeds amid the darkness.

Asmiovs on the chunkier side, like allot of book covers the actual image on the front doesn't really have anything much to do with the content of the books, I presume the publishers just nabbed sci-fi images for the book cover that had a robot of some sort.

    31. The vessels systems appear to be all operating at peak efficiency, though the crew is missing.
    32. Scanners determine that the interior of the ship has somehow scrambled, entire decks are warped beyond recognition, though this may be interference.
    33. Life scans detect one single, massive life form that spans the entire ship.
    34. the prow of the ship has split open, seemingly on it's own to form a grim visage of a jagged toothed mouth.
    35. Scanners detect messages written on the hull, nonsense like "Stay Away!" "Haunted!" "SOS!" "HELP!"
    36. According to scanners, the vessel has split into three sections, though visual observation shows this to be otherwise.
    37. Mass scanners show the ship to be 1/10th it's size, though it can be clearly seen to be a full sized vessel.
    38. according to scanners, the entire vessel has been hollowed out, and inside is a thriving zero-G biosphere.
    39. The vessel is in prime condition, though the crew is missing. Strange burn marks in the shape of people are burned into the corridors of the ship

    42. The vessel has been blasted to a hulk, impact holes and laser scarring are on a scale unlike you have ever seen.

    45. sections of the ship seem to push out or sink into the vessel in perfect square sections.
    46. The entire ship appears to have been re-purposed as a city in space, countless life forms are detected inside.
    47. Unstable fusion reactions can be detected in the interior of the vessel, far larger then normal. Optic scanners detect a message on the hull.. "SUCKER!"
    48. The ship appears to have it's center ripped open, revealing a glittering and gleaming portal to an unknown realm.
    49. Massive claw marks scar the vessel, several holes on the hull suggest teeth marks.
    50. Frozen in space is the view of the ship mid-combat. Explosions glow frozen in time, weapon systems flashing mid-fire... time appears to have stopped..

Although, i must note, it is better when items are themathically grouped more strongly. In context of generator-creating, our task is to make an "orthogonal" sets that can be combined in variety of ways.
In other words, "Strange burn marks in the shape of people are burned into the corridors of the ship" shouldn't be in section describing how the ship appears from outside to eye and scanners.

Keep them coming; i'm going to compile it into more neat form and maybe repost later

    Sure thing, 2 it is.
    Alien/mutated lifeforms responsible/encountered
Those are better done 1 by one, it think. Let's start.

    1. Mushroom-like lifeform that gains more sentience as its mycelium grows and spreads by spores. It can cause extreme addiction to itself (via re-configuring itself to meet target organism's needs) bordering on religios worship and eventually turn ones it has influence on in drones, that take care of it and feed it, until become the food themselves.
Also, its micelium can control bodies as a parasyte nervous system. Fortunately, its sentience is limited when not connected to main micelium network.

    Mind control 'shrooms. Nice.

I'm bad at this, but here goes:

    3. How about an alien that looks, smells, and sounds terrifying, but isn't physically there? Disregard standard cliches about it being a personalized fear, everyone sees the same floating shark made out of rotting meat, and they're all fucking scared of it, but it can't be shot, punched, or whatever, and it runs through them freely.

    So, hologram-projecting species? why not...
    4. omnivorous slugs, that can literally live on random rocks and a heat from sun. Usually slow, and not really dangerous; commonly used as waste disposals - their bodies with accumulated processed matter are somewhat easier to use.
When unchecked for a long time and/or subjected to certain radiations, grow to a much bigger size and sometimes change their eating habits and defensive capabilities.
    >> Omegon 01/30/11(Sun)13:00 No.13717145
    >>13717000
    5. Species living in metal as energy/quasy matter forms. The bigger metal is, the more comfortable they get, and more of them can fit in. Can manipulate metal's crystal matrix making it flow and move in process; feed by absorbing energy from outside; store part of it and dispose of the rest (too much can cause them to dissipate) in form of characteristic radiation
    >> Omegon 01/30/11(Sun)13:13 No.13717310
    >>13717145
    6. Warmongering and pirate species, that are only and always seen in shells of power armor, that vary in size and design; when strongly damaged, they usually self-destruct.
Their hunting habits involve dropping on the head of their prey from nowhere, appearing where they weren't a second ageo, as if phasing in. For some reason they, despite having very advanced weapons, usually restrict themselves to ones that are comparable to whatever the crew of boarded ship is using. It is hipothethised, that they aren't in fact a specie, but are conglomerate of individuals tied by cultural bounds.
    >> Omegon 01/30/11(Sun)13:40 No.13717580
    >>13717145
    7. Absolutely improbably and legendary species, that are never believed to exist by scientific community. They glide with their wings on solar winds, gather inter-stellar gas and, using their gravity-manipulating powers, compress it to produce thermonuclear fusion to power themselves, they crack asteroids open for materials to build their titanic bodies from...
Rarely ship which manages to catch their attention survives, but even if it does, and sail on with the marks of giant claws and teeth, usually parasytic organisms living on those almost-literal dragons finish the survivors of the crew off
    >> TomSwift !!spM4xvtPKYp 01/30/11(Sun)13:58 No.13717739
8: It looks like the ship's terrarium has gone berserk. Sentient flora has taken root in the ship, a massive tree growing over the main reactor with twisted roots siphoning energy and heat. The floors of the corridors have turned mossy and soft, eating through the metal and growing thin, razor-sharp blades of grass. Carnivorous plants lurk in nooks and crannies, hissing blindly as they snap their jaws at anything that passes by. All the while massive flowers take bloom in the high grass, their tendrils and roots trying to ensnare any wayward humans and turn them into a fresh source of fertilizer.

    50. Sensors detect that the crew are dead at their stations, but the systems of the ship are operating as if they were still manned.
    51. A communications signal is broadcasting, but appears to be static, until you do more detailed analysis...
    52. The vessel has suffered heavily in the thousands of years it has been left derelect. Rust coats the walls of it's atmosphere-less halls... wait..
    53. The vessel hangs in space in rubble, next to it is the corpse of something that may once have been living.
    54. blistered along it's hull are hive like structures... the sensors detect life signs exiting the blisters in ever increasing numbers..

    9. Species that, on the first look look like rocks, and on the second look like pretty awesome rocks. Possibly synthetic originally, they operate by subjugating another specie to do its bidding (often in form of religion or cult), the bidding bbeing to eventually create a physical form or several of its peers.
That get jumpstarted into living/sentience by absorbing psyche of said subjugated species or something.
In practice, the stones project an aura of admiration, dignity, respect and holyness; and almost any scan will reveal that their structure and properties are unique and interesting. More sensitive people may experience dreams and visions.
