    150 KB Drone Quest Shas'o Tau'quest !!oRzT9pO4Q3p 02/12/11(Sat)07:07 No.13873696
The older tau hobbles up behind you, leaning heavily on his cane as he profers a bundle of fresh clothing. His expression is unreadable as you turn to accept the clean jumpsuit - hot lab red and still sealed in a polymer sleeve - your reflection all you can see in the multifaceted lenses of his augmetic eyes. "It's not terribly fashionable, I'm afraid," Mu'roh explains as you take the package in hand, "but it will have to do."

Before you can form a response, he turns on his hoof and resumes his work, waving dismissively as he goes. "There's a lavatory, you may go freshen up."

Nonplussed, you quietly excuse yourself and as you lock the restroom door behind you and begin to disrobe, you're left to ponder your current predicament. It's hard to think about it in emotional terms, considering how extensively your companion is mitigating your brain chemistry; rather, it seems like a matter of simple math - the alien construct, like you, just wants to survive, although it seems to be subverting your body in order to do so.
    >> Shas'o Tau'quest !!oRzT9pO4Q3p 02/12/11(Sat)07:07 No.13873700
The dull ache, fading now, from the cuts and abrassions Mu'roh's regenerative healed reminds you that the older tau's research may offer you an alternative, albeit not one without risks. The laboratory is filled with failed experiments, hybridized cadavers pickled in brine and kept on display.

Incapable of an emotional appeal, the scarab simply crunches the numbers, presenting you with a series of probabilities - not the least of which is your violent death during removal, adverse reaction to the regenerative and/or possible contamination by tyranid genetic material. Strangely, the alien presence of the construct in your subconscious seems... reassuring. It won't allow you to die.

In any case, you realize that time is growing short as you struggle to dress yourself with only one arm. You still have to make it through the caverns beneath the facility if you hope to escape, at least according to your erstwhile benefactor.

You emerge from the lavatory, your companion concealed by the reinforced fabric of your new jumpsuit. Mu'roh is hunched over a worktop nearby, one of his menu optical lenses pressed against a microscope. "Ahh," he observes without looking up, "about time. Come over here, this may interest you."

The scientist takes two steps to the side, allowing you sufficient room to lean down over the microscope and observe the tray it's focused on. The image appears to be one of a cluster of cells, the cobalt pigment consistent with tau skin, with a nanomechanical armature poised at the edge of the scope. Mu'roh activates the device, a minute syringe extending from the armature and injecting an unfamiliar organism into the sample.

"Cultured from our guests," he explains, indicating the tyranid cell, its jagged shape spearing the membranes of its neighbors. "Watch what happens when it's introduced to this skin sample I took from you."

Even as Mu'roh speaks, you can see the adjoining cells quiver at the alien insinuation, changing in shape and configuration to interlock with the new addition. Then, the cells adjoining those do the same until the entire sample has taken on the appearance of the foreign contaminant. You're about to look up when Mu'roh directs your attention back to the lense. "Watch, now," he instructs, and before your eyes the sample begins to regenerate! New cells forming at its periphery before it finally runs out of raw material to fuel its growth.

    "Impressive, isn't it?"

"Unknown!" he exclaims, clapping his hands together. You're sure that if you could see his eyes right now, they'd have a manic gleam. "But it is exciting, isn't it? Given sufficient raw material, it's possible it could regenerate an entire organism! And look at the configuration of the cells, neither tau nor tyranid, but more akin to the former than the latter.

"The timing of this containment breach couldn't be more inopportune," he continues, removing the slide from the microscope and placing it in stasis. As he turns his back to you, you notice the ampule containing the tyranid genetic specimen sitting beside the micro-injector.

You surreptitiously pocket the vial while Mu'roh's back is turned, slipping it into the hip pouch of your jumpsuit. As if in response, the scarab's legs constrict around you in a physical manifestation of its distress.

"You can stay here until rescue arrives," Mu'roh states as he returns from the stasis vault. "The gue'la can be held off long enough for the system patrol to return and drive them off."

As he reassures you, however, a distant rumble causes the deck plate underhoof to shudder. Alarmed, Mu'roh raps on a communication panel. "Ra'moz," he demands indignantly, "what the blazes is going on up there?"

No response is forthcoming. Roll 1d100.

I would normally agree with you, but all of the cybernetic labs were on the upper levels, which are currently overrun by Imperium forces, Astartes, and Genestealers.

Mu'roh is a geneticist, and his lab is a bio-lab. If we're going to get another arm, I think it's going to have to be a taunid one.

So I'm for letting Mu'roh use us as a test subject, have Drone keep an eye on genetic assimilation, and grow a new arm.

The familiar staccato thud of bolter fire echoes outside the lab. It seems like the elder scientist spoke too soon and the Imperial space marines have broken through Shas'ui Ra'moz's strongpoint. "Blast!" Mu'roh exclaims, hobbling towards the door. "This is inexcusable!"

Sealing the ingress, he next turns his attention to a specimen control panel, tapping out a sequence on the screen which seems to unlock a number of high-security isolation units. Turning to you, he abruptly switches back to a calmer, more composed demeanor. "You should probably make yourself comfortable, we probably won't be able to leave for some time."

"Warning," the characteristically serene voice of the facility's computer intones, "hot lab isolation protocol has been overridden. Beginning specimen thaw cycle.

One wall of the laboratory gives way to a glassed off gallery overlooking the containment floor below. Enormous hydraulic lifters descend from the ceiling to extract the isolation units from their compartments in the deck, elevating the oversized containers and allowing their contents to disgorge - enormous, serpentine forms with slashing limbs and slavering mandibles, twice the height of an air caste and almost as broad across the shoulders as a broadside.

"Perhaps our guests will help to keep the gue'la occupied," Mu'roh suggests, preparing to release the next batch of tyranid specimens.

The scientist ponders your question for a moment, then shrugs, returning his attention to the containment console. "Only one navigable way, really, but wouldn't recommend taking a stroll right now."

The screeches from the containment level grow more numerous as more and more tyranids are released from their confines, smashing through the doors and out into the rest of the lab. From your vantage overhead you can see dozens of the serpent-like creatures slithering rapidly into the corridor, hunting for tau and gue'la alike.

2 guardsman can form a heavy weapons team and take a burst cannon for +10pts, smart missile system +20pts or a kroot gun +10pts or up to two gundrones for +10pts each, 1 sniper drone +10pts or 1 sniper +11pts. H-bolter +10pts, Mortar +6pts, H-Flamer +12pts. Autocannon +12pts.

The Sergeant has a laspistol & chainsword or a lasgun. He can upgrade it to a shotgun for +2pts, a pulse carbine and marker light for +8pts or he can upgrade the laspistol to a pulse pistol for +8pts. Bionics +30pts, Powerfist +20pts, Meltabomb +5pts. sensor-system (ld9) +10pts. 2 seeker missiles on a drone platform +25pts.

Pulse pistol (i can't find any rules)
    Range: 12, Str5 AP4 Type:Pistol

Each guardsman can be armed with:
    Krak Grenades. +1pts each
Frag Grenades. Photon Grenades. +1pts each.

1 guardsman can be upgraded with a banner of the tau for +40 pts. It can be revealed once per battle and ads 1 attack to any squad within 12"

All around you, you can hear signs of the battle turning, the whine of pulse rifles becoming intermittent, then few and far between as the rattle of bolters and the screech of tyranids struggle to drown each other out. The way to the maintenance shaft seems unimpeded and before long you find yourself ducking into a recessed alcove in the wall, tapping out an override on the door panel as you attempt to gain access to the restricted area.

The scarab takes a more direct roll, guiding your hand as it performs the complex programming involved in hacking the security system. Your fingertips fly across the screen, tapping out polynomial sequences that seem to blur together in intertwining strings of code. Finally, the door slides open with a hiss, allowing you admittance to your destination.

The ladder leading down into the heart of the facility awaits.

Steeling your resolve, you take the ampule in hand and run the cracked surface over your ruined shoulder. The fractured glass catches on the knot of scar tissue, drawing a line of blood as it cuts into your skin and introduces the mutagen to your system.

The scarab's legs tighten on your hips as as it registers the foreign contaminant, alien thoughts racing through your mind as the construct tracks the infection. Unrecognized sequence introduced, genetic damage registered! Despite its management of your body chemistry, the construct can't prevent your heart from racing or the feeling of heat building in your breast.

The ampule falls from your hand and shatters on the deck as the floor seems to fall away from your hooves, sending you tumbling. Darkness closes in around you as the chittering, mechanical thoughts of the scarab grow distant, replaced by the sensation of uncountable eyes upon you. Before you slip away completely, you can't help but scream.

    Drone Quest will continue.

Any idea about what we could both draw for the next thread?

Also, just a question: what is Anima supposed to be doing on that pic:>>13878153

Fuck if I know what to draw and man, I don't have a fucking clue what originally Anima was trying to do.

I'd be inserting drawings or some shit about now, but I'm in the middle of trying to get a better Drawing program since my SAI demo ran out of time.

I remember a lot of the same complaints about Xeno turning into a necron in Tau Quest. I'm sure you guys will be fine.

    Extenuating circumstances.
    Virus.
    Virus again.
    Bad times.
    Sad times.
    ADVENTURE NOW quest.
    Virus again (again).
    Hard drive melted.
    Bad Times.
    Sad Times.
    Started drawing for Xeno Quest.
Got distracted with nearly a game every single day of the week.
Needless to say. This has nothing related to Drone Quest, so I'm going to politely sage myself out of some sort of weird habit.

I got a new laptop recently. Hence my need for a good drawing program.

I'd say sharp metal edges and metal are comparable if not equal esthetically.

Unless you just prefer one over the other

Sharp blocky edges? No, more like smooth, shiny metal plates, and deep inside, all the mechanical bits, but anyway, nothing to please a trypophile.
