37 KB Zerg Quest XXXI Cerebrate Anon 02/16/11(Wed)20:59 No.13929039

In the space over the twin Core Worlds in the Tyrador system, where we had just finished destroying some kind of Confederate superweapon, the Confederate fleet from Shakuras is arriving. Gorn is in control of the flying units, as Warbrate loads our ground forces into overlords to attempt support through the orbital platforms. We estimate a victory for our forces, but at great cost.

Over an otherwise insignificant Terran agricultural planet, our four carriers (one of them, unfortunately, immobile) are faced with a large fleet of sleek metallic craft of unknown origin, carrying with it an impressive supply of nuclear missiles.

Finally, a damaged Terran dropship, confirmed to have 10 Terrans aboard, has just arrived at Shakuras. It is broadcasting a distress call, and the single Confederate battlecruiser left in the system is turning to intercept.

Many things are happening at once. How should we divide our attentions?

Broadcast a broad "What is your purpose here?" message. cease destruction and prep to run with all available units. Also prep the damaged carrier for a cleansing/self destruct.

Move to intercept it. disable the battlecruiser.

If I remember correctly, we snagged a scientist right before the Zerg ground & air assets steamrolled the superweapon.

If we haven't already, have the Overlord with the scientist loaded on it warp out to safety when possible.

What forces do we have that are within reach of Shakuras?
    >> Cerebrate Anon 02/16/11(Wed)21:05 No.13929116
(Yeah...all we have at Shakuras is a cloaked dropship we were testing as an observer. You could warp your Terran units in to do this, but that would mean all of our aerospace assets would be committed out of Zerg-controlled systems)
    >> Anonymous 02/16/11(Wed)21:06 No.13929125

Would it be possible to track where the new, metallic ships with nuclear ordinance warped in from?
    >> ceraBOT 02/16/11(Wed)21:06 No.13929129
here is an idea for future assaults.

Bring in our protoss guns, and have cloaked zerg move in in overlords to population centers. Evacuate the city while having our protoss burn it, and have a few mutalisks run interference on the protoss. We move our zerg units off planet and jump away to a "haven" planet. Then we infest the shit out of volunteers.
    >> ceraBOT 02/16/11(Wed)21:07 No.13929145
How about tracking, or landing on the battlecruiser? sort of as an infiltration unit?
    >> Cerebrate Anon 02/16/11(Wed)21:10 No.13929182
    Impossible, at present.

This is possible, but carries a pretty high chance of detection. Cloaking doesn't change the fact that we'll be physically attached to their hull, altering their weight distribution and warp drag.

    >Silver ships

Have our protoss assets ready to warp out. Have our damaged carrier ready to self-destruct in the most complete way possible. Attempt to hail the vessels.

    >Lone Dropship

Could possibly be a dropship that got lost in the warp to the battle at Shakuras. But it may be more likely that they're scouts of some sort. It might be worth nabbing it to see what intel they've acquired.

    >Incoming Terran Fleet

I'm leaning towards confronting the Terran fleet... although those silver ships have me worried that it might be a new Terran prototype ship.

    >> Anonymous 02/16/11(Wed)21:34 No.13929497

From the way Cerebrate Anon was telling it, it would seem that all of our air/space units are currently tied up (excluding our Terran stuff). We'd basically send in our Terran stuff to disable the Battlecruiser (or otherwise pre-occupy it) and then nab the Dropship with our other Terran vessels (boarding it or otherwise).

Our Zerg worlds will be undefended from Space attacks, however.
    >> ceraBOT 02/16/11(Wed)21:36 No.13929520
The simple answer would be to bring in a minimal amount of forces, and do a quick run on the dropship. Maybe attach a nuke or something to it. Then we can either catch it, or let it go and blow up the battlecruiser.

Have our cerebrates handle Tyrador, that's what they're there for, after all. If possible, route additional zerg forces to them.

Open a channel with the unknowns facing our toss.

Our dropship in the Shakuras system should attempt to snag any traffic between the dropship and battlecruiser for future decryption. Other than that, it should hold position.

On another note, I move we move to TOTAL war footing, and ramp up production to highest possible level if it isn't there already.

Also, retrofit our Siege Tanks and MK2's with the new armor.

Gorn raves gleefully at the slaughter as it tears ships apart on arrival. Surviving Terrans on both worlds watch in awe at the explosions overhead as the Confederate battlefleet warps into the middle of our invasion forces. Warbrate positions what troops it can on the orbital platforms to provide support fire, but their impact isn't particularly deep.

We prep our ships for a hasty retreat or self-destruct as we cease firing on the surface of the planet. We fire up the holoprojectors, and transmit a message, "This is Praetor Antikus of the Conclave. Identify yourselves."

A moment passes before a text response comes back:
    >Protoss ships identified
    >Political status: Unknown
    >This is the VoidGate AI. Terran extinction is underway. Vacate Terran space immediately.

The Battlecruiser takes the dropship into one of its landing bays. We move in closer, attempting to keep track of it. It's hard to be sure, but it appears that the dropship's passengers are being taken to the medical ward.

(Hard to have relations with a ball of molten glass)

We're not allies, really. Asking it to assist us in battle is a bad precedent.

We don't want it to know our combat potential, if possible. VoidGate might decide we're the next target after the Terrans are gone.
    >> Anonymous 02/16/11(Wed)22:19 No.13929986

Right now, we're tying up the Terran fleet with our zergy forces.

If VoidGate gets a chance to strike at Tarsonis or the other Terran major population centers with its SUPER HUEG nuclear ordinance, that will probably do a lot more to damage the Terrans in the long-term than forcing their main battle fleet to retreat. I think.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 02/16/11(Wed)22:22 No.13930010
Our Infested Terran diplomat stands up and tells VoidGate that the Protoss ships are ours as we reply similarly from the ships themselves. After a few moments, the interface reads:

    >Allied Zerg registered.
    >Warning: Terran extinction underway.
    >Extreme fallout likely.
    >Caution recommended.

The ships immediately turn away from ours and fire off enough missiles to destroy all remaining Terran life on the world. The larger ships which have expended their payloads begin landing as the others turn, preparing to leave.

We ask if VoidGate has any damaged dropship units, to which it replies that it has no Terran dropship units at all.

    The ships jump away.

Gorn is shouting rapaciously in our minds as it continues the fight in the Tyrador system. The most vicious fighting is happening in the very thin layer of space between the two planets' atmospheres, and so clouds of ichor and blood are forming in the upper atmospheres of both worlds.

It seems like more Terrans inside the ship are moving toward the medbay of the battlecruiser.

(Pretty much all of our Zerg space units are already there. We could send our Terran units, if we wanted. Or our Protoss ones, now that they're apparently free)

Repairs are once again underway. Meanwhile, the ships notice VoidGate's forces have already begun construction of several factories, and two or three large drills have been unloaded from landed ships.

Warbrate estimates that the battle is nearly over. It grumbles that Gorn's complete lack of tactical awareness has caused us a lot of harm, so our forces are much worse off than they should be, but we will still destroy the fleet soundly. We'll just have fewer surviving units afterward.

We are detecting a lot of movement in the battlecruiser. Pulling in closer, we are able to detect alarm lights through unsecured windows.
    >> TUCAMP 02/16/11(Wed)22:37 No.13930183
Good thing we need to repair a carrier, cause I'm curious about the drilling. We could send terran assets to Shakuras to investigate if things get anymore interesting there, have them ready to warp in on on moment notice.

Kingston already knows we can create Terran assets. I suggest warping in some wraiths to take down stragglers or any ships that are attempting to flee.

We could probably make ZergTV right now, but the point of it is becoming questionable as Kingston's fleet is gone and he's being attacked by VoidGate and, presumably, the Dark Templar. The Confederacy is not long for this sector. Which now has me worried about the UED again.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 02/16/11(Wed)23:07 No.13930524
Our five battlecruisers and numerous wraiths warp in at the edge of the battle, like a gleaming cavalry. Broken distress calls and "Thank God you're here" transmissions light up our comm circuit.

We pull our forces up beside a beleaguered battlecruiser. It appears to be trying to punch a hole in our battle lines for an escape, which is exactly what its captain orders us to assist it with. The Yamato gun blasts across its midsection silence those orders, tearing the ship in half.

Scattered transmissions continue to come in, though most of the remaining fleet knows what this means. "My God, what are you doing?" "Those were people! Friendlies!" "What is going on, here?" "STAND DOWN! I REPEAT, STAND DOWN!"

Gorn laughs even louder. It loves the sound of enemy despair.

ALRIGHTY! As of >>13930741 I believe we have an argument over how to use our pretty, shiny battlecruisers.

We have 5 of them, which are currently all blowing up stuff over Tyrador. Should they keep doing that, investigate Shakuras, or split up and do both?

    >> Anonymous 02/16/11(Wed)23:27 No.13930784

Tap into the Terran newschannels with our hijacked satellite. Let's get a feel for how the Terrans are feeling about this shift in momentum.

Also, if possible, assemble a boarding team at Tyrador and try to infest a few battlecruisers; they might have some intel on what we can expect next from Kingston.

    >> Cerebrate Anon 02/16/11(Wed)23:38 No.13930897
The Confederate news grid is partially overloaded. What networks are up and running are a mish-mash of claims of nuclear assaults on several fringe worlds, word of a massive Zerg assault on Tyrador, unconfirmed reports of a defeat (or victory, or ongoing battle) at Shakuras (though they don't have a name for the system at this time), and warnings are coming in that any ships from the Goryu system are to be destroyed on sight, though nobody seems to know why.
    >> Anonymous 02/16/11(Wed)23:40 No.13930914

    Wait, Goryu system?

What's there? Do we know anything about it?
    >> Techbrate 02/16/11(Wed)23:40 No.13930917

Can we get a ship with extreme high resolution imaging equipment to drop out of space about 5 light minutes away from Goryu to see what's going on there?
    >> Cerebrate Anon 02/16/11(Wed)23:46 No.13930974
Furthermore, reports are coming in of Protoss attacks on fringe worlds, and a Confederate officer swears that he was part of a secret invasion into Zerg space, to which our attacks are just a natural counterstroke. The interviewer obviously doesn't believe him, but that particular network's fact-checking department is known to operate in the Tyrador system.

We pull one of our cruisers and ten of our wraiths off from the battle. They set course for Shakuras, though it will take some time for them to arrive.

The rest of our fleet begins work to disable, but not destroy, the remainder of the Terran forces. Unfortunately, Gorn is not so restrained. Several ships are destroyed before Warbrate can organize a boarding party.

In Shakuras, we detect a lot of movement on the ship's Engine Room, but very little on its Bridge. Several compartments are vented to space, their occupants projected toward the planet's atmosphere.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 02/16/11(Wed)23:48 No.13930998

Great Overmind...I'm late for one session and everyone forgets that we have Kerrigan's Overlord in orbit over Xenta.

Send a psychic transmission through the Overlord to Kerrigan, asking if it's her taking over the Battlecruiser in the Shakuras system; if not, then our forces will board it with extreme prejudice.

Have Toaster, Saberhagen, Wormface, ColonyLord, and Citybrate watch VoidGate's factory operations via our damaged Protoss Carrier; if it was able to build such a massive fleet in so short a time, we need to learn how it was able to do it.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 02/16/11(Wed)23:53 No.13931054
Labbrate is very pleased to inform us that there is actually a small broadcast station mostly intact on Tyrador IX. With a little work, we could begin broadcasting whatever we liked.

(I reiterate my extreme dislike of all these dirty numbers. We've got more guns than the lone battlecruiser. Let's not get hung up on just how many more guns)
    >> Generic Overlord No. 31 02/16/11(Wed)23:55 No.13931084

I vote for calling in Artisanlord to come up with stuff to spam the confederate networks with. Contact Kerrigan and find out if its her on the battlecruiser(unlikely, in my eyes)

Anyone else think we should get a high-res imager a few light minutes out from goryu to see if there's anything there to be concerned with?
    >> Anonymous 02/16/11(Wed)23:59 No.13931125
Yes, but it would behoove us to check in with her to see if it's her forces on that battlecruiser before we board it.
Besides, it would be a nice thing to know, so that she doesn't panic when she finally wrests control of the battlecruiser from the Terrans, only to see a task force right outside the window.
    >> Anonymous 02/17/11(Thu)00:01 No.13931144
Well what happened in that battlecruiser sounds like our little sister's handiwork, so I guess we should just come to the system and destroy it, Kerrigan might be inside.
So I guess we should try to contact her or use Kingston's psychic compass and check if she is there.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 02/17/11(Thu)00:01 No.13931146
Kerrigan's voice enters our mind briefly to ask what we're talking about.

    Apparently, it's not hers.

(Sorry I didn't do this when it was suggested earlier. All sorts of stuff going on)

It appears that the factories are producing more of the flying units and weapons. Several of the large ships are flying runs over various parts of the planet, dropping small harvester units that immediately begin to cannibalize surface resources.

    >Anyone else think we should get a high-res imager a few light minutes out from goryu to see if there's anything there to be concerned with?
I'd rather send in one of our kludged together Terran Observers.
Actually, has Labbrate been able to get the thing to be able to maintain cloak through warp travel, like the Protoss Observers? Or will there be a few seconds where the thing will be visible before the cloak engages?
    >> Techbrate 02/17/11(Thu)00:05 No.13931200

That's why I said a few light-minutes out. Should be far enough that we won't be detected, and with a powerful enough imaging suite we should be able to get a rough picture of the system.
    >> Anonymous 02/17/11(Thu)00:07 No.13931224
So the nonhuman (unless I got wrong what you said earlier) signatures might be dark templar, IMHO it would be better to destroy the ship as soon as possible.
    >> Cerebrate Anon 02/17/11(Thu)00:07 No.13931227
(Actually, in order to make sense of things, observers come into a system decloaked, too. I know it's not exactly how Blizzard had things, but Blizzard doesn't always have things how Blizzard had things, so I'm ok with that)
    >> Cerebrate Anon 02/17/11(Thu)00:15 No.13931295
We aren't quite sure. The signatures from the dropship definitely appeared human, but several of the signatures on the battlecruiser are moving in ways that baseline humans should not be capable of.

    (On that note)

Our battlecruiser and wraiths arrive in the system. They are not met by any comm traffic right away.

Over Tyrador, the last Terran ships are burning. Gorn tore through most of the disabled ships, not allowing us enough time to actually board more than a single heavily damaged battlecruiser. We were thankfully able to kill the crew before they could initiate any self-destruct maneuvers. The skies over Tyrador are ours.

On another happy note, the engines of our wounded carrier are finally operational again. We can leave the agricultural planet's system whenever we choose.
    >> Anonymous 02/17/11(Thu)00:18 No.13931305

We didn't detect any nonhuman signatures onboard the Battlecruiser, if I remember correctly. Just that there were about 10 (injured?) terrans on a damaged dropship that got picked up by a battlecruiser near Shakuras. The 10 Terrans were rushed to the medical bay, then MORE terrans started flooding towards the medical bay.

We were able to observe warning lights flashing from some open windows on the battlecruiser. After a while, the terrans that went to the medical bay started fanning out, and many went to what we presume is the "engine room" for the battlecruiser, as well as the bridge. Some of them were moving significantly faster than baseline terrans.

So, probably not dark templar. But possibly something that we've played before in Zergquest.
    >> Anonymous 02/17/11(Thu)00:19 No.13931306
If it's Dark Templar, then it would be a great opportunity for us to capture them for study, specifically their psionic cloaking ability.

*psychic facepalm* Gorn, we appreciate that you're dedicated to your job. But destroying stuff we wanted intact is counter-productive to our overall war strategy.

Anyway, have Labbrate send in field teams to salvage whatever it can from the research facilities in the Tyrador system, while Warbrate finishes wiping out/infesting all remaining Terrans.
Gorn is to come back with his portion of the Swarm to provide defense of our core worlds.

Have our battlecruisers in the Shakuras system initiate intensive scanning of the disabled cruiser.
