    40 KB Harlem Quest - VI Ellington !!UwPj376bY/f 02/21/11(Mon)16:03 No.13986169
    It's 1927.

You're an enforcer called Duke, you're a midlevel guy in one of the three black gangs trying to control the illicit side of things in Harlem, the Outfit, though recently the Dutch and the Jews have been trying to muscle in on the action. You've got two underlings and a whole bunch of people above you.

As well as being a black man, you're a black magician, which just means you've got a certain understanding with the Other Side and don't hesitate to use certain kinds of energy to help yourself and your people, always in that order. Necromancer is a dirty word used by white folks to try to keep down you down and maintain their power base.. Anyone uses the N word around you finds themselves dead and their ghost enslaved.

It's the height of the swinging twenties, money is flowing, deals are being made, position and power are gained and lost every day, and all that life and all that energy means that magic is abundant.

    Welcome to Harlem.

    Part V: http://archive.easymodo.net/cgi-board.pl/tg/thread/13928333

I HIGHLY SUGGEST you read them all if you're a newcomer because a shitload of things have happened and although I'll try to summarise shortly I won't be able to get down all the details.

    Skills:
Guns - all guns, rifles, semis etc
Bartering - The bluffing, the negotiating, the double dealing, it all comes naturally to you.
Intimidation (basic) - You can scare civilians if you give them the evil eyes.
    >> Ellington !!UwPj376bY/f 02/21/11(Mon)16:05 No.13986193
    Spells:
Summoning (Level Four) - you can now summon people up to 3 years dead, faster and with less energy than you used to.
Bind (Level Four) - You've used Bind often enough that you've gained a new level of mastery. You can now bind a ghost to your cause for 30 days. You've also gained the ability to bind a ghost to items in a manner of ways. You can bind a ghost to a container, in order to imprison them, or you can bind a ghost to an item like a knife, dagger, amulet or what have you in order for the item to gain magical characteristics. For example, binding the spirit of a war veteran to a rifle will give you a sentient, bloody minded rifle with an offensive bonus that speaks to you and wants to attack all Germans on sight. And so on and so forth.
Life Leech (Level Two) - you now have the ability to heal minor wounds. If you're already healthy and use it you get stronger, quite a bit faster and gain some stamina. Your target feels like they've run a marathon unless you decide to only take a little. You still cannot leech from magicians.
Rip (Level One) - essentially ripping out the souls of living people from their bodies by summoning them. Makes them unconscious for about 30 seconds since their souls return to the bodies relatively quickly.
Ghost Whip (Level One) - you can now cause untold amounts of agony to the newly dead, up to three days. As you get more practice at this you can cause more damage to older ghosts.
    >> Ellington !!UwPj376bY/f 02/21/11(Mon)16:06 No.13986207
    Items of Note:
Magic Knuckleduster, with ONE charge left in it. Each charge that connects is a killing blow. The kid was quite clearly an amateur so he could only throw the energy a few inches forward of the knuckleduster. You're experienced so when you use it you can punch from several feet away and the knuckleduster's energy will take a man down, permanently. You noticed the two times you've used it so far that it wanted to be used.
Happy Magic Juice - a high quality concoction that mystics use to power their astral wanderings: some laudanum, a some rare chinese opium, and a dash of Ghost. You've got enough in the bottle to get a mind and soul high and keep it there for a whole weekend.
Medium Physical Protection Amulet - This can take killing blows and spread out the attack evenly on the shield so you don't get broken bones or incapacitated. It can only take 3 killing blows before having to be recharged.
Medium Astral Protection bracelet - This will protect you from attacks on the astral plane, whether you're a sleep or you're awake although it does require a ritual in the mornings to activate it for the rest of the day.
Distraction Charm - This will allow you to walk through white neighbourhoods without having the police called on you or get undue attention. You're part of the background but if you do something out of the ordinary you will get noticed.

Duke, What did you think Of the Item Ideas I put forward at the end of the last quest? (I was tripless at the time)

    Your underlings are as follows:

    - Randy, an innocent sounding name for a dangerously cynical 16 year old kid. Loyal beyond death, really, because you helped him kill the judge that sentenced his father to death. You've taught him a bit of magical theory but he's not your kind, so for now he's a low level elemantal magician until he gets some real training. But boy can he set fire to shit. Special Items: 1 Elemental Booster stone. 1 Basic Physical Protection Amulet. (BONUS: Pyromaniac.)
    - Big Jim, a muscular behemoth with no magic whatsoever. He resents the fact that he is the same age as you and yet you give the orders. Nevertheless he obeys because you've got the juice and he don't. He ain't all that smart but he's good in a scrap. Special Items: 1 Medium Strenght Amplifier necklace. (CURRENTLY INCAPACITATED DUE TO NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE WITH A WEREWOLF)
    - Chandler Raymonds. A punk kid you killed that has agreed to work for you for a time as a ghost, to spy on your enemies for you on the understanding that you keep his brothers safe if he finds out they're in danger. Because he's a free ghost who you haven't bound he can show initiative and do things on his own away from you and for extended periods of time without having to constantly rebind and set the parameters of his mission to him. He's agreed to work with you on a long term basis now.
    - O'Leary, a cop you killed. You've got him Bound for 3 more days at which point he turns into a free ghost.
    - Patrick, the brother of O'Leary who you killed when he was trying to avenge his brother's death. Bound for 3 more days.
    - The Three Amigos, three nameless henchmen who've been with you through thick and thin. (BONUS: Loyalty Level Two - cannot be influenced mentally against you or each other).

Hey, I definitely wanted to address your posts before starting this new thread. First of all, great job on thinking them up, those are some real nice options you've got, and secondly they're all doable although they'll gain power over time and not be immediately as powerful as you'd hope they'll definitely do what you want though.

Please feel free to repost your ideas/posts now so people can see them and discuss them and vote on which ones they'd like to try out, some of that stuff might be useful in an assault on the Wessler building.
    >> Ellington !!UwPj376bY/f 02/21/11(Mon)16:15 No.13986322
    >>13986254
Also, I just wanted to add a few details on the binding process.

When you bind to imprison the ghost remains in tact and can be extracted at a later date and sent on its journey, etc, etc.

When you bind a ghost to an item in order for it to gain magical characteristics, you're basically squeezing the soul of the ghost dry and forcing it's essence into bonding with an item. The new item will be an amalgamation of the original item and the ghost, so there will be no extraction and it will be a completely new entity. You'll effectively have destroyed the soul of a human being.

Just wanted to make that clear.
    >> Ellington !!UwPj376bY/f 02/21/11(Mon)16:16 No.13986332
    Anywho
    ----
    DISADVANTAGES:
DEATH LEECH - if you're mortally wounded and you get knocked out you will drain until death whoever is standing closest to you in order to recover and wake up. This disadvantage will stay with you until you gain better control of leech life (i.e. Level Four).
    ---
    Summary:
You've just dropped off Big Jim at Doc Greens and then entered an alley nearby to summon Henderschmidt. After you summoned him he gave you some more information about the layout of Lord Pitt's Wessler building and what you can expect when you set up an assault on the place.

----Last Post From Me In Previous Thread---Contains Conversation with Werewolf Ghost----
"On the 18 floor is a small office vith library. Behind bookcase in the back is entrance to take you up into his sanctum. Or on the 19th floor, there is a similar office with a similar book case that you take to go down into it. There is also a balcony in the sanctum that overlooks the city. If you can fly you can entere through there."

"The wards are in the foundations. The wards are defensive and keep out ghosts, spirits, and astral meddlers. They also affect the minds of people hoping to attack the Wessler building. They find themselves turning on each other and attacking other, or if it is one man the man becomes so paranoid he attacks himself. It is not instantaneous but the effect builds up over a few minutes."

"The only way to disrupt the ward is to completely take out one of the walls that make up the StarWard in the basement. Once that gap is there, it is disrupted and useless."

"I know no weakness of Pitt himself. He is a strong and cruel man. A powerful man. There is a reason I follow him."

    ---

So you're still in the alley, facing a werewolf ghost and things are as they stand.

We'll start in about 15 minutes. I need to get me some tea!

    Good to know.

I'm also a bit wary of using the knuckleduster ourselves. Seeing as the two times it was used, it "wanted" to be used, maybe when the last charge is used something happens.

Maybe it's just good at killing stuff though. Whatevs.

Anyway, call up Smokey, a Lt. working for one of Olukewele's peers, and see if he can set us up with a large supply of explosives.
    >> Anonymous 02/21/11(Mon)16:21 No.13986384
If he's already bound, keep him with us for now. I think the consensus was to get a truck filled with explosives and drive it into the foundation ward.

    >>13986388
Not official, since I'm just a player, but I don't think he'll tell us that, since we wouldn't know until we try.

If we're worried about Pitt's shit wrecking people when they go in, we could do a truck with a weight on the gas pedal.
    >> Anonymous 02/21/11(Mon)16:26 No.13986450
Ok, so here's the thing though. If we go in with a big truck and explosion on the ward, that's going to draw a TON of attention.

That's going to mean, even if we get into the building, there'll be who knows how many "soldiers" of Pitts looking for us. And if we manage to go in and ice Pitt, steal some shit, and get out, we're going to find ourselves face to face with a shitload of cops.
    >> Ellington !!UwPj376bY/f 02/21/11(Mon)16:31 No.13986504
    Alright. I'm ready to begin.

    >>13986504
I don't know man. Explosives seems the way to go, but that will draw major attention.

    >>13986536
Nothing could distract the cops from an act of terrorism. However, we DO need those wards down. Our only option is explosives, really, since we don't know anyone alive who's savvy enough to disarm the wards - and the wards will stop ghosts.

We could TRY giving a strength amplifier necklace to whichever of the Amigos is burliest, and having him break down a wall with a sledgehammer - but I honestly think that's a bad idea, because there WILL be people with guns and spells in the basement, and they WILL shoot him before he can knock down the wall.

    So, explosive a go go
    >> Ellington !!UwPj376bY/f 02/21/11(Mon)16:44 No.13986654
We can do several things at once. You guys discuss how you want to get away with all this and we'll begin gearing up for it.
    --
You take the bound ghost of Henderschmidt with you and drive into West Harlem to see Smokey.

You see him and his head before you see his face clearly, he's got his back to you and clearly he's doing his version of walking the rounds. Smokey is a short black man with very dark skin and a head of hair that's gone prematurely white. It's always odd seeing that white hair on such a relatively youthful face, he's a few years older than you, a peer. Smokey turns around, somehow sensing that you're nearby, and smiles as he sees you. He's got small lips, terribly pointed at the sides. When he smiles it doesn't look like he's being friendly, it looks like his cheeks are being cut up and he's in pain.

The thing about Smokey is his voice. It sounds gravelly and hoarse all the time, like he was smoking in the womb and never quit. He's got a crazy story about that, about how he was in space once and the air elemental he was travelling with betrayed him and left his throat to be destroyed by the cold vacuum, but Smokey's always full of crazy stories and nobody knows quite which of them are true. Most of them are though. Smokey never speaks above a whisper and asking him to speak up is taking your own life into your hands.

"Well, well, the conquering hero graces us" he cackles in his hissing voice, "why do I get the feeling it's only to cause someone somewhere some trouble?"

I need to take out part of a foundation for a high rise down in the financial district. I need something, big. You know what I mean?"

Also, we could try to enlist his help in this operation. "You heard anything about this Welshman Pitt?" See if he says yeah or no. He could be lying, trying to see if we talk. Which we should. We should tell him most of what's going on, but we should leave out the specifics about the crystals. He should just know that Pitt's up to shit and is gonna cause us all some serious trouble if we don't take care of him. Tell him about the warded basement, the secret floors, our plan to infiltrate the building, sic ghosts on his ass, and kill him as well as we can.

Life in the hood, brother. You know how it is. It's a good day if there ain't trouble with someone, somewhere.
Today, a powerful whitey magician is gon' cast a spell to turn ALL the booze in Manhattan to water. ((Note: Do not mention 'crystals' as that might trigger an astral attack)) We've found out where the fucker's hidin' - in a 30 story skyscraper warded against every kind o' magic known to me. "Man expects himself a left hook in the form of some magical attack and you hit him with the mother of all uppercuts. I gotta say, you're a stylish operator, Duke."

"I'm afraid I can't help you out personally, I got some business to run myself with some uppity Dutch boys trying shit on, you know how it is, but I can get some explosives if that's what you need. One of my guys is crazy about explosions. If I let him he'd probably blow up half of New York just to watch it happen. About this thing you got going in the Financial District," his tone changes into one of advice, one of warning, "don't get too fancy. You know how heavily entrenched we are here and no doubt that guy you're gunning for is just as entrenched there. You gotta be quick and decisivie, no hesitation once you get started. Good luck to you, brother. Kill a few whiteys in my name if you get the chance."

He opens the box and what you see inside is a red ruby.

"This is a little something I've been working on."

"I made a deal with a djinn so he'd store an explosion for me in this ruby," he smiles like a master jeweller showing off his best piece, "I've got two keywords for you to use. First, you stand about 5 or 6 feet back from the wall you need to break up, and then throw it while shouting TAKBIR. That activates a kinetic boost to the ruby which propels it forward and makes it penetrate the wall, it will get about 3 or 4 feet in depending on the strength of the concrete. After that you shout ALLAHUAKBAR, and then you have 30 seconds to run the fuck out of there before the explosion takes place."

Let's buy 2 shotguns and some shells to spread through our ranks.

    Arming:
Duke - Thompson + ammo. Revolver + ammo. Some dynamite and a lighter.
Randy - Thompson + ammo. Revolver + ammo. No dynamite.
Amigos - One with a new Thompson. Two with shotguns. All with pistols (1911's would be nice), and dynamite.

Let's go to Hell's Kitchen, pick up the extra (1 Thompson, 2 Shotguns, 4 1911's [one for Duke to use later], and ammunition.

On the drive south to get to the Financial District, you pass through Hells Kitchen and have a quick stop at Winters' shop of horrors.

All three amigos are equipped with Tommy Guns at this point, and one of them has both of Jim's power ups (the strength amplifier and the basic protection amulet)

    ---Order----costing 400 dollars-----
    - 5 shotguns with over the shoulder straps.
    - 100 Shells for the shotguns.
    - Gangster Vests for the Three Amigos.
    -----------------------------------------------

You're not going to be able to carry anything else just so you know. Just on yourself you've got a BAR, a shotgun, two revolvers, two knives, an explosive ruby and 5 sticks of explosives (the other 5 you handed to Randy).

Alright, what do you want to do now?

Randy can have a pistol and half the Dynamite, 'cause Randy fucking loves fire.
Duke, of course, keeps a pair of pistols and the other half of the Dynamite. Duke will probably be making use of rip and life leech most of the time.

You drive into the Financial District and as you approach the Wessler building from the north, you see that it's just as ugly as your city planner friend previously said. Your ghosts keep an eye out and so do you.

The building itself seems to be dead, all the people who work in it seem to be long gone and you can't tell anything of what's going on inside. Driving past Frelling, you see that the road is empty and it shouldn't be difficult for you to enter from the side.

    No overt traps are visible.

    >WELL NOW.

Come up with an entry strategy, tell me how you're going to deploy your forces, and then we'll get this party started.

You explain to Randy that you want him to stay behind you and you venture in yourself.

It seems you spent just a little too long examining the entrance because you can already feel yourself getting a little dizzy. You don't have a torch or a lantern but what you do have is a lighter.

    And it illuminates...a little.

You feel the gradient of the ground you're walking on get steeper as you head deeper into the underground.

At one point it turns into some steps, a narrow hallway of steps, before becoming flat ground once again. The darkness around you expands suddenly and you realise the narrowness is gone, the light of the fire is being absorbed by a large cavernous space.

You don't know what it is that's in the room with you but you feel it out there, not with your eyes or your natural senses but with your magical ones.

You leech immediately and you feel a new burst of speed and strength. However you don't know what effect that had on your leechtarget.

"....interesssting..." you hear from the darkness, unable to tell where that's coming from because of the echoes. By the perky tone of the voice, female? male?, it clearly has more energy to spare than you could possibly leech.

You realise that your source of light is not doing much to help you see what it is you're sharing the room with, but it is making it very easy to pinpoint your exact location.

You're becoming increasingly disoriented. You know that you've come far away from the exit but you don't know how close you are to one of the walls you have to break.

You feel the snake monster(?) wrapping your legs together with it's hugely muscled tail as you pull out your revolver and try to position yourself so you can get off a clean shot at the head biting down on your shoulder.

Eventually you fire, and in the moment that the bullet passes through the brain of your partner-in-the-dark, you see for the first time what it was. A huge snake with the upper body of a scaled woman, horrific with a hugely distended jaw and pincer like teeth, claw like hands trying to cut into your suit and failing. Her slitted eyes don't even react as you kill her.

You stand up quickly as the snake bitch begins to gather herself up again. It's hard to tell in the dark but it looks like the wound in her head is beginning to heal itself.

You rip the spirit out of her body and she falls over again. Her spirit looks around disinterestedly examining her new surroundings. Once again though her body is already summoning the spirit back to it. You begin to leech and feel yourself getting stronger but something of the inhuman nature of your foe means that she has limitless physical energy, you can leech from it all day long at your level but it'll do very little to her stamina or her will to kill.

You have 2 moves before she wakes up again.

In those two moves you can 1) Use the knuckleduster, or gun again, to try and kill her, or 2) use the ruby to set an explosion and then run.

You stick a dynamite deep into her throat and set it a light.

You run as far as you can to the other side and the explosion seems to rock the cavernous space, illuminating it fully for the moment that the explosion occurs. You take advantage of that moment and map the room as the snake woman's body is blown up into tiny giblets and pieces.

It's clear to see. The wall that you've got your back to is perfect for what you need and the exit is almost directly behind you.

You turn around, take six or seven steps back and then pull out the ruby.

Your Jewish Ghost Army have been on this plane long enough to learn a trick or two, especially manifesting on this plane, and they descend on Pitt's Henchmen like invisible piranhas, ripping bodies and limbs apart leaving screaming torsos and blood drenched floors. It's a gruesome sight.

You, Randy, and the 3 Amigos head up the staircases going up one floor at a time, and every time that some foolish white boy looks to be getting in your way to kill you, your favourite Jews rip them to pieces and wail in yiddish to claim the victory.

The way to the top is clear.

You come out on the floor above Pitt's sanctum.

    What's the plan here?

Crank up our magical detection gear to maximum. We have no idea what kind of magic bullshit Pitt is capable of.

It's almost certain that Pitt can detect ghosts and defend himself against them somehow, but we don't know how effective that might be.

Send in O'Leary to scope things out and maybe get a glimpse of Pitt.

Additionally, can any of the Jews hold something? Like a lit bundle of dynamite? Even if they can only repeatedly throw it, that's fine.

Basically, we should have the ghosts juggle a dynamite surprise directly into Pitt's lap.

Then we roll around the corner guns blazing with our henchies, and throw out some knuckleduster shit if he's still standing.

He grins and laughs with the glee of an old man who's rediscovered the joy in life and goes along with it. You arrive inside with your BAR, ready to kick ass when you see the scene in front of you.

First of all the room is huge and is definitely two floors long and wide.

The ghost are attacking Pitt in the middle of it, and Pitt is somehow managing to kill them one by one. You think for a moment that you're seeing double but you're not, Pitt is a normal man, a tall man, and yet at the same time the exact space he's in seems to contain an enraged dragon.

You open fire, the Three Amigos open fire, Randy quite literally opens the fire from inside him while shooting his Tommy gun, and nothing is happening.

Maybe one day, when you've lived for over a hundred years and gained the magical experience to have that much fine control you'll be able to do the same, but for now you're awed that Pitt is somehow singlehandedly holding off 50 or so ghosts, 1 necromancer, 1 elementalists and 3 mortals armed to the teeth. You glare at him and see no unnecessary expenditure of energy. A dodge leads to a ferocious attack that takes out two ghosts, he uses cold air and water to hold back the flames Randy throws at him, which makes steam appear that Pitt uses to launch an attack on a further three more ghosts.

    What's your plan, Duke?

You look around for a while as the attack goes on and don't see the kinds of things you're looking for. Until you look at a corner of the ceiling and notice your eye flicking by it just a little too quickly. You try to focus on that part and notice that things are being clearer, you're avoiding some kind of distraction charm.

You see the on the ceiling is chained a being in a circle. A child with wings. With the winged child in the circle is a pulpit of some sort with three crystals on it, and somehow they're not falling down. In fact the winged child sits like the ceiling is the floor. Strange.

    Which is a mistake.

Unlike many others Lord Pitt is not the kind of man who has hot, volcanic rages, but instead his rage is a thing of ice and patience, a focusing tool that makes his mind work faster and with a vicious turn he begins to kill ghosts in the way between you and him. He's killing them more efficiently now.

You have two moves before he is in close enough to attack you and kill you.

Like the expert summoner you are, you see what's holding the angelic child chained isn't anything physical but the circle it's surrounded in. You wish for a moment that you had the leisure to study that circle and it's glyphs so that you too could one day soon summon and use these beings in your own research but alas time does not permit such a study.

What time does permit is for you to use your mastery of guns to aim your BAR at the circle and begin to make a dent in their structure. Before you know it the angel child has noticed that it's free of its constraints and so it stands up and jumps up (down) and within a moment it disappears.

Lord Pitt has noticed this. He is now further incensed and would be only 1 move away from killing you if only you hadn't started to run.

You make your way around the room, all of you spread out into different corners as the ghost hold the center ground and keep attacking. Randy seems to be beginning to tire because he's done nothing but throw fire at Pitt which hasn't had much effect on the man.

Once again you have 2 moves and you're the target of Pitt's rage.

Have Henders and Brokovitz look around the room for something - anything - that might be useful in the fight.
Throw the knuckleduster to Randy and have Randy run in and punch the guy (because Pitt is trying to kill us, not him).
The 3 Amigos should run in and try to wrestle any magical shit off Pitt's body. It's likely that it won't work but it's worth a shot.
Finally, we should keep running and firing (our skill in guns will let us not hit our allies).

    18 JewGhosts left.

They have however had an effect on Pitt, he doesn't seem quite as relentless as he was before and he is in fact slowing down.

None of your bullets are getting through despite how you and the three Amigos are running around avoiding him and shooting him, but some of Randy's fire occasionally gets under his skin and takes him by surprise. Clearly fire is not the element that Pitt uses the most.

Henders and Brokowitz furiously try to think of something in the room they or you could use in the battle but nothing is immediately apparently.

As this goes on, you begin to wonder exactly why Olukwele had so much faith in you that you could handle a big player like Lord Pitt.

You throw the knuckleduster to the head of the Three Amigos, the one that has the basic protection amulet and the strength amplifier.

He puts it on, puts aside his Tommy gun and goes for it.

He runs through some ghosts and then strikes with the knuckleduster when he has the chance.

The Green Energy in the knuckleduster finally get their wish and spring forth from it, attacking Lord Pitt in a horrendously sharp arc that acts as a right hook, instantly breaking Lord Pitt's jaw.

Some of Lord Pitt's jaw intervene from the blow killing him in one go, but he's got a broken a jaw, has fallen to his knees and is very close to unconsciousness.

Now is your opportunity to strike at him, if ever.

While you think about this, you notice that the knuckleduster that the Head Amigo is wearing has begin to leech the life out of him. In fact within moments it's turned him into an old man. His hands are so skinny that the knuckleduster falls off, completely inert, a meaningless trinket, while he falls backwards unable to move himself.

It was quite cute how the knuckleduster just -happened- to fall into your hands after Chandler just -happened- to be ordered to kill you. Guys once again on an OOC note I just have to quickly say what a good job you've done.

I'm really fucking annoyed because once again I feel like this was too easy for you. Because you did all the background work in getting Lenny and his ghosts to join you, all those murderous henchmen became a joke when if you had to do that yourself, alone, it would've been much more protracted and more of your henchmen would've died and been used up before you even arrived to face Lord Pitt. And because you did serious background into the building and its wards, it didn't turn into a horror show where you and your underlings turned on each other.

Fuck. You guys did a great job and kicked ass, and made it look far too easy!

Get back to our sanctum and summon Pitt. We need to know his henchmen, his command structure, any magical items he's secreted away in the building, and how to summon demons and angels.

Our next move should be building renovations to Wessler, in order to prevent the same kind of power-grab we just pulled on Pitt. First order of business should be the reconstruction of the foundation wall, then the bricking over of the alleyway entrance. We're going to need heavy ghost sentries and shitload of manpower to turn Wessler into the fortress sanctum we need.

Once defense construction is under way, we should deliver the crystals to our Boss, or let him know Pitt is dead and we're running the Financial District. Reassure him of our loyalty; we're getting stronger, but not any dumber.

Get on the phone and make some calls. Olukewele may not be reachable by this, but some other lieutenants can be.

I don't know that we can feasibly get ourselves into the Financial District. From what we heard before, it's pretty locked down by some very nasty characters; Pitt was only able to stand in it because of his own sheer magical power (which was ridiculously impressive, as we saw) and even then he had to stay forted up all the time. Throw in the fact that we'd be a black boss in a white neighborhood... and I just don't see it happening.

I think our best bet is to strip out what loot we can, then 'sell' this building and the nightclub to one of the established financial district factions, establishing amicable relations and alliance which might let us work with another outfit against the others in the future.

Alright we've got a few different schools of thought here.

    1) Use the Wessler building as your toehold in the Financial District and try to expand slowly and carefully while using whatever information and/or backroom deals Pitt had in place once you've summoned him and squeezed everything out of him.
    2) Steal as much as you and your boys can, then sell everything that you can squeeze out of Pitt's ghost to the people he plundered and ruined.
    3) Inform Olukwele that the immediate mission has been accomplished, get him to come down here and begin planning whatever he wants done with this temporary advantage you have, because it's not going to be long before the cops and feds turn up and wonder why more than a hundred white men have been killed in a building while explosions were set off.

This is going to be one of those medium-strategy votes, so if anyone doesn't have anything else to add, please vote.

    Option 3.

We should inform Olukwele immediately of what just went down.

He has all the information we want to know, like whether we actually have a shot at holding territory out here or not.

Also, purely from a self-preservation angle; we just took down one tough motherfucker on smarts and planning alone.

We should reassure Olukwele we're still his man, and by going to him and letting him plan our next move, we're letting him know that. We don't need our immediate superiors thinking we're too dangerous to have around.

Summon Pitt, ask the same questions. Cross-reference with Henders to check whether Pitt is fucking us from beyond the grave. Also, ask Pitt about elemental magic, summoning demons, and all sorts of magical crap like that.
Summon Snake woman. Ask her if she has any valuable knowledge on magic or pitt's stuff or anything.

When we're done with the interrogation:
You said Binding destroys a ghost, yes? That'd prevent them from turning on us.
Bind Henders into a knife. A really big, sharp knife.
Bind Pitt into our favourite suit. Duke's gotta have a nice suit.
Bind the Snake woman into a pair of pants. Snake leather pants, ideally. Might see if they provide regeneration to the wearer.

The majority of votes went for two and three, which aren't mutually exclusive.

You find the nearest telephone and make a call to your allies in the Outfit, not the rivals who are tiring of seeing you succeed. You call Winston, and Doc Green, Smokey and some of his boys, and all your own underlings that aren't on critical duties.

You get them to pull up to the Wessler building with huge trucks through the back and begin to unload stores of heavy weaponry that Henders has informed are in the building, not to mentions at least 120,000 dollars in the form of gold, bonds and plain old cash. That you asked the trustworthy Winston to keep an eye.

Then you decided it's time to get in touch with your boss, and as you wondered some letter seemed to open up in your mind.

It seems the last time you met him, Olukwele left a bit of his magic inside you so you could quickly get to him once you were done.

You stand up and find a nearby closed door.

You look at the door and slowly turn the handle and pull it back. A light that shouldn't be there shines into your face.

You step in and find that you've walked into a formal dining room.

A small round table is in the center of it, and sitting across each other are Olukwele and a lady. A light brown, Indian possibly, woman with a sleek red dress on and completely serious face.

Olukwele looks at you and smiles. "Duke, excellent. I was just expecting you. I felt you would either come to tell me you were victorious or your shade would come to wish me farewell for a last time." He chuckles to himself. "Please, join us. This is a dear...dear friend of mine called Ghativa. She is a certain aspect of Kali."

Olukwele extends a seat to you on the round table.

"Tell us of your battles, my dear Duke. Make it glorious for Ghativa here has seen a lot in her millennia and she bores easily."

    Of note:
We beat Freeman, mostly by shooting him with bullets.
We beat the O'Leary brothers in a wave of fire, ghosts, and gunfire.
    We talked to a demon.
We won some fights with a Werewolf and a Succubus
We did some legwork - tracking down an entire jewish legacy of ghosts.
And finally, we had our showdown with Pitt.

The building was intense. The walls fucked with our heads, but we used a gem from a Djinni to ALLAHUACKBAR up one of the walls
Then these ghosts poured in like VOOSH and tore up, like everyone.
And we come into Pitt's chamber and we say to him "Your mother was nothing more than a whore, cast away when her cunt was filled. You were nothing. Refuse, tossed away by your father. Not forgotten. Not even cared about. Lord Pitt? Lord fucking Pitiful."
So he's really angry - and while he's fucking chasing us, tearing down ghosts by the fucking jewload, we try lookin' for ways past him - release a chained angel, go at him with magic, bullets, and cursed weapons - and we finally get the fucker down.

    So here we are. Hi!

You tell the whole story from beginning to end, weaving a story that was both darkly funny and just plain grim at times for the both of them. Olukwele listens appreciatively and so does Ghativa, who seems to enjoy the lurid details rather than the grandiose larger brush strokes that Olukwele finds fascinating. You find a nice balance of both and the tale pleases them.

"Your army of Yids," Olukwele says admiringly, "that was very masterful of you. It reminds me of this druid I knew once who a long time before had killed every single member of the Ninth Roman Legion, and then carried them with him everywhere he went as his personal legion. Your vision reminds me of his."

    Ghativa smiles silently.

Finally she says, "The Ormunggar you killed in the basement. I'm afraid it's not actually dead, despite that explosion. They're much harder to kill than you'd imagine though they're not much use. That Pitt would have trapped her there with his ward but when you destroyed it she was free to move on to whichever Heim she descended from. Ugly creature," she says disdainfully.

Her face loses its humanity and she once again returns to being an utterly serious manifestation of death.

"I must leave. There are worlds calling for me, whose every death I must see to." She stands up, and Olukwele stands with her (and you do too out of politeness). She walks up to Olukwele who embraces her and plants a soft kiss on her lips, which she returns willingly if not gladly. She looks at you and says "We will meet in the future again, I am sure. And not just on your final day." She promises.

"Isn't she wonderful?" Olukwele asks, once she steps away from him and disappears with the second step away.

Turn out it was all for the best, since the kid decided to help me get some revenge on Freeman. That's for later though. Because first, I get into a bit of a tussle with this cop. Irish fucker. Starts shaking my men down looking for those crystals. I use the dusters on him and take him down.

So then we go to bushwhack Freeman down at one of my boy's place, and when he comes through, I toss the dusters towards him, but blow away a mirage he'd set up. Ended up shooting his ass and cracking his skull. Fucker's a vegetable now.

Well shit, look at me. I've gotten rid of a pretty big rival here in the streets. Things are looking good. Except for that cop. See, he was looking for those crystals. And when his brothers from back in the old country hear about his death, they hop through some magic plane shit and end up here looking for me. They killed a good man. And we killed them all. Check. His cunt bitch, no offense, ma'am. But, check. Blow away the enormous ward he'd set up in his building? Big fucking check, a long with some scaly bitch down there. Watch an army of dead jews tear through mothafuckas like a knife? Big ass check. Building was a slaughter.

And then Pitt. God damn. Ghosts run in carrying dynamite, trying to blow his ass up. He knocks it all away, and before I know it, he's tearing through these jews like he was Roman. Course, once he lost his little pet Angel, and took the last hit from those dusters, which by the way, wilted the man who was carrying em'. Jeffrey's his name, old man now. But then again, when you look at some other stuff here on /tg/, it's not too hard to be subtle in comparison.

Depends how it's handled. Astral projection seems like a natural direction to take our powers, but if possible, I'd prefer to avoid the trippy/fever dream/psychedelic planeswalker routine. Those sequences always give me a colossal headache.

Actually, I would think that astral projection is the way that we would definitely NOT want to go. The logic being that if a necromancer leaves his body, he's putting himself on par with the ghosts he tries to command- exceedingly dangerous. Having a body to anchor the soul gives solidity and strength that we desperately need.
    >> Anonymous 02/21/11(Mon)23:52 No.13992081
    >>13991937
Salient point. I was thinking purely in terms of logical power progression, with no thought as to the practical considerations. I withdraw my vote for astral projection sequences. I'd also like to veto the zombi suggestion, though. Black magic or no, we don't seem to follow that style. They're nothing but meat puppets, while we tend to focus on skill, charm, and knowledge. There's just no subtlety to the zombi. Let's focus on spirits and the still-living for now.
