You guys were in the middle of chewing out Emanuel for trying to rat you out to Dispatch.

For the situation at the windmills, you get another skill.

    Athletics [Basic]
    Vehicles [Basic]
(Feel free to suggest another Basic Skill)
    or
    Any Basic Skill [Specialty]

You can upgrade a [Basic] skill with a [Specialty] in that skill, as per the following examples.

    + Mechanics [Automotive]
    + First Aid [Lacerations]
    + Athletics [Climbing]
    + Dinosaur Knowledge [Specific Species]
    etc.

[Basic] skills are not required to attempt actions (i.e. you can still drive a car under normal circumstances without Vehicles [Basic]), but it will make more difficult actions easier to attempt or lessen penalties or failures. [Specialty] skills further this.
    >> Fireaxe 03/04/11(Fri)17:08 No.14128383
    Athletics [Basic]

    >So recap: We're in the vehicle when they find our gun. Muldoon cuts in telling dispatch to F-Off and we can keep it. Also chewing out that lazy Emanuel.

So I want to know, do we have any fire fighting equipment besides a basic fire extinguisher?

Anyways, drive to the Geothermal plant.

If I got this right, we can improve our skills with specialities. Maybe we should give ourselves Firearms [Small-Arms] since we got a revolver and a shotgun we probably have to use.

I was thinking that too, but I really would like BASIC Athletics just in case.

And small arms I would think applies to the Tranq and Magnum, not the Shotgun.

Majority seems to be for Firearms [Small Arms].

    Now to business.

("Listen, Emanuel, I know you probably don't like me much, and might even blame me for what happened to your friend back there. I'm sorry things went down the way they did. This park is breaking down out there, in a big way. The rules aren't always gonna keep us safe. Dispatch isn't always gonna have our backs. I promise you, I am gonna do my best to keep you, me, Juan, and everyone else on this island alive as best I can."

"There's too much at stake for this bureaucratic bullshit right now. I need you to trust me out there, because if you don't it's gonna put a lot more people then just us on the line. You understand me? If the geothermal plant fails, the fences fail. If the fences fail, we are all fucked."

"We on the same page, or you gonna keep reporting me for stupid shit like bringing an extra gun in case the raptors show up again?")

    And:

("Emanuel, you've now fucked me twice ratting me out to dispatch. Dispatch is what got Juan's buddy back there killed.

Dispatch would have long since got me killed if I didn't bend the rules some.

If you insist on having that corporate stick up your ass, dispatch will get you killed.

And if you don't agree with me bending the rules to keep us safe, why, I'll just let you wander, wounded, into rooms filled with dozens of dinosaurs that are well known for finishing off and eating wounded animals.

You'd have died back there if it wasn't for me, and if you don't respect the choices I make, then you can fucking do this job with out me, understand? And you won't live to see tomorrow.

If nothing else, I'll make sure of it."

No, I recall the first option as :
"Emanuel, I hate you, and you hate me. Nothings going to change that. But one thing that Dispatch hasn't told you, is that the dinos started breeding.
"That's why Muldoon was back there. And let me tell you another thing: the DRT's and Security scans of the dino trackers showed nearly double the number of raptors than there should be, and they were outside of the pens.
"Now, you want to go into another building with just some tranq guns, or would you rather have a real weapon?"

Also, the last part of Option 2 was supposed to get stricken.

As somebody said in the last thread, Emanuel is probably just under-paid and scared of the dinos and thinks that reporting us and being a general kissass will make him safer somehow. Going with option one, looked like it had more support last thread.

He looks away from you, a quick glance shows his eyes filled with thought.

"Alright." He shrinks back into his seat. The drive to the geothermal plant is bumpy and rough. Jungle gives way to grass gives way to rock and you've reached the plant. "*static* Fire teams are picking up water, they'll get there soon. There should be hoses on the inside connected to the plant's water tanks, use those. Now get going!"

You drive up and hop out with the extinguisher, Emanuel and Juan follow.

You're walking on solid, if fractured, stone, there are no tracks. But you spot a fossilized plant. Cool.

Try to get to where dispatch says hoses would be, using fire extinguisher if necessary.

Get Emanuel to tell Juan to help him operate handle the nozzle while we get the hose uncoiled and the water flowing.

Careful of dinos along the way (even though, as terrestrial vertebrates, they should be afraid of fire).
    >> Emergency Chair Warmer 03/04/11(Fri)19:42 No.14129657
You find no evidence of dinos being in the area

You head inside the building to a storage room. Flames cover the walls, with jets of steam come from burst piping all over. A glass case containing a fire hose is on the far wall.

Do we still have our gas mask, or did we hand it back to the DRT that took care of the compy problem?

It might be useful if the smoke starts to get heavy, as that is a major danger in poorly insulated indoor fires.
    >> Emergency Chair Warmer 03/04/11(Fri)19:56 No.14129783
Dodging the blasts of steam makes you slow down, but you extinguish a way to the fire hose and smash the case open. Uncoiling the hose, you grab the nozzle and hold on to the lever controlling water flow.

    >> Emergency Chair Warmer 03/04/11(Fri)20:44 No.14130266
You leave Juan and Emanuel to see what they can do while you head to the storage room. You take off your mask and get your radio,

"*static* We got a Hypsy herd on the road the fire teams were taking. They diverted to the take the road on the Eastern end of the island. Their location is currently at the air strip."
    >> Anonymous 03/04/11(Fri)20:48 No.14130324
Note to self: this looks a bit like sabotage. The cut wires and overturned barrel are of special interest.

Guess we can't afford to wait on the fire team. Sparks mean the electricity is still running in the area; maybe the fire would be best dealt with in these rooms if the electricity were turned off, temporarily? Do Juan and Emanuel have an opinion on this?

Maybe tell dispatch that it's an electrical fire and ask for their diagnosis.

In the mean time, we should get a good look at this overturned barrel (the cut wires will be out of reach and too dangerous to approach). Do we smell gasoline, or any other sort of propellant, when we have our mask off?

Create an impromptu safety release, it'll punch a hole, letting out the pressure.

We'll need to get out of the way of the steam jet, and when the pressure has subsided, we can go back and put out the fire, or at least spray water on the bits of fire that aren't snuffed when the air in the room is evacuated by the steam.

If we stand in the room and shoot the valve, we'll be smothered and broiled by the superheated steam that will fill the room almost instantaneously, displacing the air.

.44 punches clean through unhardened steel. I use pressure tanks for targets, and anything much more powerful than .22 or 9mm will punch holes in it, and that's before the tank is pressurized (preventing deformation that will allow the steel to absorb the impact) or heated (making the steel weaker).

We don't need to be running around seeing sabotage everywhere and preaching it from the hilltops, but if we see something out of place, we need to tell someone, because otherwise it puts suspicion on us.

The thing is, we KNOW the Head of Security is in on the conspiracy, and he knows that someone in maintenance knows. He might even know our name. We don't want reports of sabotage getting back to him with our name on it.

The only authority figure we can trust is Muldoon. He's who needs to know, as soon as possible.

    He seems frightened.

We also know he's killed someone to keep it quiet.

There's a point in every conspiracy where the safest thing you can do is blow it all wide open, so that the conspirator isn't able to silence all the people who know.

Sure, he got away (so far) with one murder.

    What about 5, 10, or 15?

And I'd put even odds on Muldoon wasting his ass for even trying.

Look, keep it under your hat. If it WAS sabotage, we don't know who did it. What if the person we report it to is the person who did it? Dispatch won't believe us without proof anyway.

You enter the building. The wall separating the control room from the tank room seems to be gone, and pieces of metal and electronics litter the floor. You can see concrete when you look up.

Going into the tank room, you see many big holes in the tank, but it doesn't look like it burst. Not completely anyway. The fire crew attached a rope to the railing. Make an Athletics [Basic] check to go down.

Going down one at a time, the second person waits for the first to be on the ground, then the third person waits for the second person to be on the ground.

The floor circles the tank, and you can see the fail-safe valve on the piping leading from under the tank. Pieces of red, curved metal litter the floor. Some of them are pretty big. There are two doorways. One of them has no door and is completely charred, the other is in better condition with a hallway leading off. You can hear machinery from the hallway, probably leads to the turbines.
