You shoulder your way to the rear of the autowagon "Lena, stay with the siege weapons." you command the girl. Her features are an order of magnitude past her usual demeanor in battle, reminding you more of a sabercat in plate armor than the gentle girl you know her to be, despite the fact that she is garbed in naught but robes. Lena opens her mouth to protest, but a single look from you silences her. She steps back from the lip of the wagon, and in the second it takes to switch places with her you see that predator melt away, a pained, terrified girl, who looks more likely to fall down and cry than anything else.

The wagon shudders to a halt and Jayne shoulders up next to you "I only dulled the pain, she wouldnt have made it off the wagon." hafting her morningstar, clearly ready to fill the gap Wulfs incapacitation left.

You nod to Collin as he falls into position with Laelith, Jayne and yourself. Seconds later the wagons trundle to a stop, only the screamed wrath of the onrushing cultists and utterly exhausted huffing of mounts audible for an instant, then you maniple deploys, mercenaries to the fore. Seconds later you are at the front of the Sunstorm, cultists still barreling towards you, the din of battle is accented by the Keranacs final death cry, your maniple eagerly awaiting your command.

Start whittling the oncoming hordes down with our ranged units I suppose. Perhaps the deadeyes try to hit their command group but I'm assuming that won't get much done based on previous attempts to snipe elementalists.

Can we have the Celtron and Neftius units break into two smaller units? One half of each unit takes up position on the flanks of the legionary units.

Legionary units take the enemy charge while the merc units descend upon the enemy flanks and move to envelope the enemy units.

In the center the warlords break into 3 groups, two taking the enemy's flanks and enveloping while the third group helps push the enemy unit's center to that Trentz and friends can break through to the enemy leader.

Our ranged units will fire at the enemy rabble until they hit our line, then focus fire on the enemy's command unit until it is either dead or Trentz reaches it to slay the beast himself

I have to agree. Back in our very first battle, the enemy warlords during our graduation test pulled a superfast charge on us and I don't want to risk that these raiders can do the same. Especially since they're god powered in theory. Better to let them take the charge in a ready position and have our maniple units be the ones to act as the hammer this time. Our valks should be able to do quite a bit of damage to their units as well so we might want to keep them on standby to hit any cultists that are doing well against our mercs.

You shout to the mercenaries to hold fast, and signal for ranged units to continue their barrage against the cultists. Seconds before contact is made you unleash a well ordered row of earthen spikes before the cultists, resulting in a decent number of them being impaled before the melee is joined. Seconds after you use your elementalism Laelith incinerates a group of cultists, though her eyes are focused on the leader of the band of fanatics. The elf launches herself forward into the raiders, spinning and slicing, burning and screaming bloody vengeance, nearly outdoing Collin with her wrath. You press forward with your spear and shield, Jayne keeping pace with you. Behind the command staff quartet lies a path of eviscerated, shattered and broken cultists behind you. To your left the Celtron Guard are struggling to maintain their formation, some of their number preferring to use their shields as knuckle dusters or charge headlong into the cultists rather than hold, not that they are inefficient in their fighting. To your right the Neftius spearmen calmly take their charge, and professionally fight back, well ordered thrusts, rotating and advancing their ranks as they do so.

Hooboy. We need to reign Laelith in. She might get herself too far ahead or walk into a trap that the enemy leader wants her to walk into. That or beat her there.

The center formation looks like it should go down with there only 30 men left. We should have our ranged units focus on the side units to support the mercs and have our unit move to support them once we've dealt with the units in the front. Legionnaires can move in to flank I suppose since there's no point just having them sit in the back. If they got those javelins we were thinking of giving them, they could also use those.

The last of the cultists falls to your spear, his entrails hanging from the serrated edges still after you pull it from his gut. You move to shake the spear clean as you sprint to catch up with the force you chose to strike at the leadership of this cult. Behind you the shriek of Valkeries can be heard, most likely they are about to sweep into the remaining mobs of cultists.

Before you stand the ten most grotesque Lacertans you have ever seen, all of them a dark seaweed green, slime oozing out from between their scales, and hiding the definition from one scale to another. Several have masses of vestigial tentacles hanging from their chins, others are in possession of massive, bulbous black eyes, or slimy, thin webbing between their fingers. the clear second in command has all of those traits, and towers a good head and a half above his comrades. All of the mutated lacerta have sigils to Karythria etched into their skin, the scars still fresh, though healed. All of them wield great cutlasses or hammers, and are waiting your onrushing group eagerly. Their leader is a tall woman, long black hair hanging wildly about her shoulders, seaweed tied into it at random, in her hands is a cruel looking trident, and light blue robes barely cover her generous form. At her neck is a large locket, blue-white water inside it. the Widow is stalking towards your onrushing elf, a predatory grin on her face, she pops the locket open and douses the ground around her with the arcane waters inside.

She's lost her sense at the moment. She's not going to hold up I imagine unless we make a really awesome command roll. Definitely need those mercs to move up so we can swarm them with numbers. Ranged units can just continue to whittle down the other cultists and have our maniple units move in to support them. Regardless, we cannot let Laelith fight the leader on her own at least. I rather have her focus on the lesser minions but I don't see her listening right now... Sigh.

You catch up with your small group as Collin lays into the leftmost flank of the Widows command group, cleaving through the blade of one lacertan, through his overly taught skin and gut. the blade sails onwards and upwards, removing the arms from another before the brute can bring his hammer down on your blademaster. Two more lacertans rush in to take the dwarf as one, finally stopping his momentum. To your right Jayne sidesteps a downward strike, and catches a hammer-blow from a tentacle-chinned cultist on her shield, not sliding back an inch from the bruts attack. In fact, she pushes the huge lizard back, and smashes her mace into the other Lacertans gut, sending his body flying back and into the finally dead Keranac. Futher down the line Laelith generates a blinding flash, stunning the guard in front of her, before taking his head with her sickle.

You attention is dragged away however, as the leader of the Widows guard rushes at you, a pair of cutlasses in his hands, speckled with rust and holy sigils. His vambraces and shin guards obsidian, and wickedly bladed, you catch his leading blow on your shield, and the follow through with the haft of your spear. You step ahead and plant your elbow in the massive warriors tentacled chin, only to have it snugly seized by the superfluous appendages. You pull it free to reveal a defiled obsidian anvil and bloody hammer tattoo on the things neck. Both of you step back to evaluate your foe before the melee resumes.

You glance over to the white-hot cloud of mist to your far right, and catch a glimpse of Laelith dueling the Widow, arcane fire, water and ice arcing and jetting in loops and spheres, colliding and exploding in brilliant clouds of mist. Amongst the mist the two beaties spin about each other, slicing and stabbing, seemingly evenly matched, though you do notice Jayne focusing on the elf at every chance she gets.

You charge back towards the leader of the guards, and thrust your spear at him, he twists to the side, and your spear barely grazes his thigh. The brute grins a needly, feral smile at you as the cut seals itself over, then reaches over with his off handed blade and smashes it into your gauntleted hand, sending the spear flying from the hand. As you move to draw your sword the brute lands a blow on your shoulder, and sends you sprawling to the ground. YOu roll out of the way of the decapitating strike, and the following thrust to your heart. You are able to spy Collin shift through several stances, dancing between and around the lacertans accosting him, before releasing one of the guards heads from its possession. To your right you see Jayne ravage a second Lacerta, though she is noticable sweating as she finally gets around to caving the cultists head in.

Peering through the mists created by the arcane fire and water flying about your elfs battle you see both of the combatants are cut, though none of the blows went deep. With unbeleivable grace your elf parries a thrust from the trident, sidesteps a sharp shard of ice and spins around to attempt to hook her foes leg, and sever it. However, a gout of steam catches Laelith fully in the face, sending her stumbling back, stuttering and spluttering, barely avoiding a trio of thrusts from the woman in blue robes.

You scissor your armored legs into your foes, spilling him to the ground for long enough for you to push yourself to your feet. The two of you meet in a flurry of steel as the beast rises seconds after you. After a few incredibly loud seconds you manage to plunge your blade into the beasts arm "Regenerate this" you taunt, before tearing your ferreted blade back from his shoulder, spraying a thick, almost black blood into your face. You step back and wipe your eyes in time to see Collin setting up to finish his foe off, and Jayne stuck in a deadlock, her breaths coming in ragged gasps, her left arm now bereft of its shield.

Laeliths duel continues, the searing mists growing thiccker still, gouts of flame and shards of ice periodically flying from it, though you can discern none of the physical combat. Again you try to use your elementalism, though the mud and muck, combined with the fighting you are locked in cause it to be so grossly inaccurate as to seem more of a waste of energy than anything.

Your attention is pulled back to your foe as it lets out a mighty, wrathful, wholely unnatural wordless warcry, and charges you, its left arm now completely gone, the wound not even bleeding. You sidestep the bullrush, and nick the back of the divine warriors head as he passes. The brute whirls around, leading with his blade, you detly catch the blow on your sheild, allowing the beast to push you back a few steps before you move up and run your blade into his gut. The beast snarls as its blade drops from his hand, and rams the blades on the outside of his obsidian vambrace up and under your left arms pauldron, tearing at the shoulder as he falls back, dying. You drop your sheild from the weak arm,and decapitate the beast as you step over him, shaking the severed head free of your shin, though a few of his needle-like teeth remain in the armor.

Behind you Collin disembowels his last foe as you rush the lacerta Jayne is fighting, the noblewoman not even trying to maintain the illusion that her left arm is functional at this point. The Lacerta sees your approach and moves to step back, stumbling over Collins foot, terror flashing across the creatures face before the dwarf severs his head.

    "But.."

"Flesh wound." you reply, wiping the blood from your armor. You nod to Collin and wade into the cloud, the thin sheet of sweat on your body doubling in thickness within seconds of entering the cloud. A spike of ice whistles past your head, and a flash of blue shows you where your foe is, still dancing with a figure in orange. You haft your sword and charge after the shape highlighted in blue, she doesnt even notice your approach. An instant before your blade strikes true, you notice how impossibly tall the woman is... you barely re-direct your blade-arm in time, with the momentum behind it. You shake your head and move for the figure in orange, blue rather, now that the mists are no longer hindering your sight. Three traded blows with the Widow, one of them glancing off the vambrace of your left arm is all the more time Laelith needed. A blast of fire catches the womans legs, melting away flesh, and searing bone clean. The elf moves in before you can say anything, whispering something into the womans ear, before burying her sickle in the cultists gut, smiling viciously. You feel the elf stumble onto your armor through the dissipating mists, putting her full weight onto your recently injured shoulder. The field is a slaughter, you realize as you step clear of the obscuring mists, your maniple standing awestruck now that they are at the feet of the great beasts you felled.
