We sometimes have these world-building threads, where we basically design a whole new campaign setting. Those are fun and all, but let's try something different this time.

Instead of being a bunch of creative writers, let's be gods. Instead of designing a setting, let's bring a world into being. Smash some rock together, fill the oceans, paint the mountains, breathe life to all the living things... there'd be just a few of us at first, the first and the eldest gods, but more would probably show up if the thread gains interest, some even ascended from among the mortals later. And we'd all have our own domains and the like, and stuff. The whole thing.

So, with no further ado, I shall begin... "Let there be light."

    Pick it up from there.

...and also some dark, because otherwise that would get confusing...

Light poured out into the universe, and it was born of the stars. With the light came heat, and the warmth was known by the universe, but the warmth had no destination.

And so, let us forge worlds to house the warmth.

Let there be earth and stone.
    >> Anonymous 03/26/11(Sat)10:31 No.14372112
And upon the earth and stone a persistent harsh wind blew.
    >> Anonymous 03/26/11(Sat)10:31 No.14372117
And from the rocks borne from nothing seeped great torrents of water and magma.
    >> Anonymous 03/26/11(Sat)10:33 No.14372130
And so the molten core was formed, and great oceans of howling winds came to writhe upon the surface, twisting the stones into mountains and continents.
    >> Anonymous 03/26/11(Sat)10:33 No.14372133
And from the magma came forth the first living creatures of this new land, short and stocky and with an affinity to rock and earth. We shall call them dwarves.
    >> Anonymous 03/26/11(Sat)10:34 No.14372141
The greatest stars in the sky sought to explore this brave new land, and collided with the land and seas. These took root, and became the first plants.
    >> Anonymous 03/26/11(Sat)10:35 No.14372147
The earth and stone crash together, forming massive spheres and the warmth poured into them, baking them.

The stone cracks and the earth burns. The strength of the stars, the hot geysers and the magma is too great, the warmth is destroying the stone and earth. The harsh wind scatters the stone dust and the ashen earth. Let there be cold water and a chilling air.
    >> Anonymous 03/26/11(Sat)10:36 No.14372154

And the dwarves looked upon the bare rock and magma, and had an affinity unto it, and longed to remain close to it, for their flesh was born of stone and their hearts of molten iron.
    >> Anonymous 03/26/11(Sat)10:36 No.14372157
From the oceans, fish began to emerge. These became lizards and, in time, great dragons.

And so the dwarves found competition.

And the oceans spread to the earth in little streams, and some fish went with them: they shall be known as rivers.

As did the first land-dwelling reptilian races, the morbid Kobolds. From the other side of the same coin, the timid Cutebolds came to be.

As the first trees began to bud, early elves emerged from the flowers. They grew in size and number, and mastered the crafts of cloth and music. The came to dwell in the forests that bore them, revering the trees of their origins above all the others.

    So came the first fags.

The cold wind sweeps across the water and ice is formed. Great swaths of ice form where the stars' light doesn't fall.

From the ice, great beasts of fluid shape with cold, frozen skeletons marched forth. The demons of the land are of water and ice, and oppose the dwarves.

Many of the first gods who engineered the plane saw it was good. They cast off their divinity, to dwell beside the creatures of the plane in body and spirit. Their essence would come to imbue select individuals with great skill and power, becoming the first heroes.

These gods became the first Player Characters, and in hushed whispers, they referred to the world they had helped form as "Ti'gee".

The dwarves delighted in their creations, but were dismayed by the ice wastes and burgeoning flora, and dug deep caverns into the ground, and sought after the magma. There they found precious stones and metals, and were held in wonderment of them.

And so too did the elves create a menagerie of life. They created birds and deer, and other such camp woodland life. But the creature they most found pride in was the cat, for it's grace and aloofness.

And so it became traditional for elven high priests and priestesses to dress as the cat, in homage to their patron creature.

Kobolds, seeing the wondrous animals created by the dwarves and elves attempted to birth their own creations. They only managed to make the armadillo. Cutebolds managed to create puppies.

The Kobolds too tried to mimic the biological experimentation of the other races, but found no affinity for such things. They instead produced the first machinery, slowly producing the first vehicles and traps, among other such automations.

The cutebolds gave it a go, but decided they preferred baking.

So was the strength of the dwarf infused with the wisdom and intuitiveness of the elf, though failing to rival either species in both aspects. Man found his skill in propogation, building great cities and kingdoms of which to call his own.

So were the lands to the west claimed for the kingdoms of man.

So came the first That Guys. In the travels of the Player Characters, they saw these entities and saw they were bad. That Guys were born into the lesser species as were the Player Characters; so a sect of the Player Characters vowed to reveal and vanquish the demons wherever they were found.

So came the first moralfags. The name they carried with pride, for they were strong enough to bear it.

The Dwarves were found to gravitate away from the affairs of the other species, and found their homes in the great mountains of the world, where they deemed it best to STRIKE THE EARTH and build their collosal civilisations in the earth that bore them, away from the prying eyes of the other races.

So were the lands to the north claimed for the kingdoms of dwarves.

The kobolds saw the other races and were scared by them, and how they were all so large and with so much strength the small lizards did not have. They fled away from them into the underground caverns and deep jungles, and filled their homes with traps to dissuade others from following.

So were the lands to the south claimed for the kingdoms of kobolds.

But long had the stone beneath them been left to grow, and from depths of the world could be found species peculiar and unheard of.

So came the deep races- the Drow (who had shyed away from the light at the beginning of their mother-race), the Giants, and other such beings came to emerge from the soil- to peer curiously on the races of the surface; some with wonder, and some with a hunger.
    >> Anonymous 03/26/11(Sat)11:20 No.14372431
The men, in their vigour, made a great many wonderful spires and cities wrought from the metals bought from the dwarves, and decorated them all about with the artistry of the elves, and dedicated themselves to the aquirement of knowledge and learning, and built many libraries in their glittering cities in the west. But men, being forged with the breath of the lizards, had within them a mote of the darkness of the deep waters, and longed to voyage across the oceans. They built great navies, and set off to find new lands, for the wanderlust was in them.
    >> Anonymous 03/26/11(Sat)11:20 No.14372433
But there was disagreement between the twin-races of Kobolds and Cutebolds- for while the Kobolds thought it wise to retreat from the surface, the Cutebolds wished only to frolic in the sunlight, and enjoy the world above.

So most Kobolds retreated into stone, and most Cutebolds retained villages and camps on the surface. The Kobolds who retreated grew more paranoid and angry with the world which, in their eyes, cast them out- and came to despise the affairs of the other races.

So when the Dwarves encountered the Kobolds in their realm of stone, the Kobolds lashed out, leading to a lengthy distrust between the species.

Within the darkness of the waves, in places the light of the gods did not touch motes of primordial chaos gathered and coalesced into monsters of no rational shape, nor or size, nor of temperament. Though they shunned the light of the sun and stars in equal measure the movement of the new boats upon the old waters did piss them off, and the Lurkers did rise up as Great OldFags and pull many a sailor to their doom, making sea travel dangerous and the career of only the truly hardy.
