So I was playing best of 3 against some fag with a red army and he managed to beat me in the second round. So, I radio man rushed him in final round.

    He was PISSED.

Nice gambit, but it wouldn't have worked if he took more crouchers.
    >> Anonymous 03/28/11(Mon)21:37 No.14399661
I'm surprised he didn't because it looked like he was gonna turtle while flanking with reinforcements.

I hope you space them out more in the game. One crouching bazookaman shot and that radio party is over.

    This OP.
Artillery strikes mean nothing to people who can be given Always In A Foxhole for as little as 12 extra points per squad.
    >> Anonymous 03/28/11(Mon)21:40 No.14399717
S'okay, OP probably takes enough crawlers to deal with them.

Though that might leave him low on Machinegunners...
    >> Anonymous 03/28/11(Mon)21:42 No.14399749
not OP, but I fucking LOVE machine gunners. Honestly, the speed reduction is totally worth being able to suppress 3 squads of riflemen at once. Plus, they have enough range to take on crouchers.

    See OP pic.
Instead of artillery (Raining Thunder), get napalm (That Burning Smell). It's kind of expensive at 250 per radio man, but napalm has a chance to outright destroy forest cover, as well as kill anything it in.

they're ok in close urban combat as well, but they suck ass on open maps, keep them in cover, try to work your way towards the enemy. Basically, play them like you would crawlers, except assault instead of shoot. Bonus, it ties up their shooting as well, especially when you can position a combat to block their line of sight,

    >> Anonymous 03/28/11(Mon)21:52 No.14399901
No. They're only good on hard to difficult terrain. However, if you use Air Strikes via radio men, you can change the terrain in a small area, and dominate with your Overheads there.

However, if you start with overheads and radio men from the start, your opponent most likely know whats going on.

Anybody who use chutists as a serious unit is fucking retarded. Their only asset IS their Insertion ability. It's an instant action and does nothing more than provide your other units an opportunity to gain closure on an enemy battalion by providing a distraction. At least, that's what I use them for.

Does come in handy though. One time I was up against a T-Rex Saur unit and with Lord Lovat and Jack Churchill in my HQ/Elite squad, my infantry squads couldn't fail their courage rolls and were able to take down the T-Rex easily due to Lovat's "Freedom! or Die Anyway" ability.

Haha, it could be worse. Remember Company of Heroes? You reinforced your chutists one-by-one. Like a plane is going to fly over the battlefield to drop off just one regular GI Joe! That always got me about that game, anyway.

So guys, in my box of men, I have various tones of green, a good force of tan, one black ninja missing a forearm, and one blue sniper.

Just a prone blue sniper. I don't kjnow what to do with him. Any suggestions?

oh wow you are missing out. Try fielding some green airmen, you can deploy a mortar team ANYWHERE on the field if the insertion role doesn't get royally fucked. and for greens, they ignore dangerous terrain, so you can plant a mortar team right on top of a mountain. Lrn2strategize

I remember back before we found out there were actual rules for this game me and my friends would just set up our armies in my sandbox and use firecrackers to try and knock them over. We would build enormous walls and ramparts to prevent line of sight from being drawn on our guys while leaving them free to attack whoever they could see so if you wanted to kill anyone you would have to start destroying terrain. Shit got serious when we found some rubbing alcohol and decided to try out Napalm Strikes.

    >ooc: Everything I said up there is true, me and my buddies would have enormous army men firecracker fights complete with walls, water filled moats, air strikes, and throwing firecrackers at each other when we started loosing.

It was probably before your time if you're new. The BPC was an uber hax for the Blue Army that exploited a certain...well it's actually kind of technical, but suffice to say that picture was the result and perfectly legal at Tournament. They called it the Blue Power Creep, it was basically a hideous invulnerable monster that could only move 10 feet a turn and I don't think anyone has ever killed one.

CBT however was just an allusion to Cock and Ball Torture, because if you saw a BPC, you were fucked.

I've heard of a BPC being taken down outside of a tournament.

Was a Tan Special Forces army, decked out for avoidance. Sure, it couldn't hit for shit, but it was damn near impossible to touch.

To make it worse for the Blues fag, it was a rain forest map, with deep rivers, plus in the middle of a monsoon.

Since Blues don't have any good artillery, with the BPC approached the river with the Spec. Forces squad, it literally could not move due to Firefight rules. It couldn't hit the broadside of a barn if it was in it, thanks to the conditions and the tan squads, but they were getting in enough shots to bring it down.

After that, the blue army player wouldn't say anything, but the tan player's squads just emerged from the river Mud Men style, and swept across the map cleaning house.

LOL! Never at a Tourney, but my friends tried it once before we realized it would literally take hours (if not DAYS) for there to be a victory.

But I did see a Blue Power Creep fight a 'White' Power Creep after they used the Nauts 'Clone' technique on it. They rammed the thing with a Triceratops, got its DNA, then ran around the map on a dunebuggy for 90 WHOLE TURNS until the moderator said that their factories had had enough time.

Of course it was a stalemate after that, but the judge awarded the victory to the Naut team for creativity (Admittedly it wasn't exactly legal, but everyone fucking hated the Blue guy after using such a dick move so they let it slide).

I hate to admit it, but tan's armor and vehicle choices are, well, weak.

Sure, it's tougher than infantry, but Greens don't have to bother with anti-tank; a crawler squad specialized for sniping can disable it.

Maybe it's a little faster than infantry, but blues vehicles, while nothing more than paper weights, outrun mostly anything.

When playing tan, either go Horde Style, or go Black Ops style. Tan's strength lies in foot soldiers, one way or another.

    My list so far is

    4 Platoons of Veterans
    12 Napoleons
    1 light squadron
    Commander Hood

I know its small put the veterans really pack a punch and most blue armies are heavy on fodder and light on vets so they can chew up most of em. Anything they can't gets blown by my canons. For my drummers I took "Hold Formation" and "steady aim fire" along with that Stonewall gives them "Stand and fight!" so pretty much my veterans are unbreakable. The only way to beat em is to just fucking kill them all.

    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)08:20 No.14404512
Is it bad that this thread made me want to go find my old army men? and if that failed order these from Amazon...

    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)08:22 No.14404519
It really depends, but after not getting much of any power creep their way, its gonna be a tough battle. But any good man, cave or army, should know that doing nothing, gains nothing, carry on cave bro.

Tan jeepspammer here. it took me awhile to get used to the new edition but now i dominate the local FLGS.

Sure, jeepspamming is kinda dickish as tan but what's a guy gotta do when you face green grenade wave and gray panzerrush?

Love the situational weapon mount rule for the jeeps.
    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)09:17 No.14404802

Aren't jeeps effective only against infantry hordes? Laughable armour doesn't actually help against grenades and tanks.
That said, my obviously infantry-heavy Viking army had its humiliating losses against jeep armies.
    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)09:33 No.14404906
yeah they have cardboard armor but they are fast, maneuverable and can mount a TOW launcher to knock out tanks or a heavy machinegun for taking out infantry and grenadiers before they come close enough to fuck shit up..

Knights master race reporting in. Enjoy your people being crushed by my mighty cavalry and heavy infantry while your peasooters' shots bounce off my knights' awesome armor save.
    Having no shooters sucks though.

Newfag here with a question: Is it possible to modify these rules to work with 1/72nd scale soldiers?

Me and my friends want to play this, but all we got is the tiny soldiers, though we got plenty of deifferent groups. off the top of my head:
    Civil war
    Sengoku Age Japan
    Boer/Zulu wars
    Viking invasions
    Ancient greek/macedon/persian
    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)11:53 No.14405813
    Sniper rush.

    Is it still viable?

I mean, it seems good against saurus, knight and vikings, considering the fact that snips are perfect for killing of small units, but what about all the other armies?
    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)11:57 No.14405839
    Put it this way.

When you go up against a horde, they don't give 2 shits about casualties.

When you go up against a small elite force, they care very much about losses.

So it's roughly Horde>Snipers>small elite force

Okay, could someone please stoop so low as to give at least some basic info to us noobs? Since most of the posts are not about Combat Forces, which only has two factions, what is the exact name of the game? "American Civil War tabletop rules" does not give me one single set of rules in google but a huge number of different rulesets. What is the one you are talking about? Who is this Totem person? What is the scale of these soliders (the big or the small ones?)
    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)12:19 No.14405971
This thread has gradually shifted from talking about an actual game to randomness that sounds plausible.

As for Totam... they are making fun of what's-that-dick's-face who wrote the recent ultra smurfs codex.
    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)12:20 No.14405980
Isnt thera a couple of army men systems out there?
    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)12:25 No.14406013
But still, is Combat Storm the only sensible way to play with Army Men? Or was the one who mentioned American Civil War tabletop rules making sense? There seem to be a variety of rules out there.

On another note: Is Warmalego a similar transmogrification or are there actually people who have tried playing Warmahordes rules with lego figures? Although I am sure this would draw the wrath of many "serious" wargamers I would actually be up for that as I find lego to be very creative + nostalgic and the actual tactics of the game are not influenced at all.

/tg/ totally needs to make an actual homebrew game off this concept.

Might start working on this myself, actually

Thank you very much! I am always searching for the non-standard, low-budget, homebrew, garage-methlab type games. I sometimes work on ideas of my own, but I find playtesting to be tedious because my attention span is very short. I managed to convince a friend of mine to play my infamous Settlers of Catan / WoW-boardgame mashup, which seemed like it could actually be playable (though there still is loads to be done).

Apart from that I would love to play some skirmishy version of WHFB/40k, if possible with more RPG-elements, i.e. more specific items / character traits / XP, etc. Also, I once read rules on Dakka dakka for a cybot-centered skirmish game that sounded awesome, but I cannot find it anymore.

Awhile back I picked up a Viking force that came with a dragon and a black cage for it, plus a bunch of trees.

    Is that worth anything?

Homebrew a special character called Toothless.
    Go eat Tans.

The rules for Necromunda are, i believe, available for free on the internets. It was one of a number of side-games (now officially referred to as Specialist Games and sorely lacking in GW support) that had rules and models completely separate from the main WHF/WH40k lines. Necromunda takes place on a hive world and is basically skirmishes between the hive gangs.

My experience is more with Mordheim, the fantasy counterpart to Necromunda. Mordheim has XP and differentiates between Heroes (who can gain skills and be awesome) and Henchmen (who are cannon fodder, but sometimes get "Lad's got talent!" and become Heroes). Both are very small-scale and LOADS of fun.

Just don't go to the bathroom. Our group has an unspoken rule that everyone gangs up on the guy that goes to the bathroom.

You don't know about fucking Warmalego? It's the superior game to these fags with their green/white/red shit.

I mean, they got monochromatic armies, Warmalego figures have multiple colors AND are even more customizable.

can anyone tell me what the rules are on these guys? They're different colours but they seem to come in the same set? I'm confused, I haven't played in years.
