Moving through them one by one you plant the idea that convincing the First Freed to go to war is the only way to solve the famine. Most of them, however, are focused on attempting to get trade running smoothly again and the idea is quite difficult to set in place. In the end you leave over a quarter of his advisors dead or comatose, but in half of those that remain the push for war is strongly set.
Still... he has proven most distressing. So much so that, well, you think that another villain is needed. Eschewing new stock, you instead return to the city of Mardana-Fel. It provided you with a trio of excellent heroes, after all, so perhaps you can harvest darkness from it as well as light. The three individuals you left behind before remain, though the status of one has changed. Ral Myres, a Toric of House D’an, has been gravely wounded and lies fevered in in his room at the Last Refuge, Vassik’s in in the center of the darkened city.
Likewise Vassik the Red himself is there, minding guests and refreshing dark glyphs etched into key points of his establishment. Eventually he finishes his duties as proprietor and excuses himself, slipping unseen into a secret passage and descending far below. Striding down an ancient winding staircase, he moves deeper and deeper into the bowels of the earth, past powerful wards both ancient and undiminished by the passage of time... wards not even his dark goddess, you are sure, is able to pass. Arriving at last at the foot of the stair he opens a sealed door and passes into a vast chamber filled with all manner of potent magical apparati, ancient tomes, and in the center a bloodstained altar. |
