16 KB Crossover setting thread Anonymous 04/14/11(Thu)04:39 No.14589880
It's survey tiem, /tg/. What would be your favourite "crossover" setting? I'm talking about merging different genres, like for example fantasy/western, or steampunk/horror. Choose two from the following table. Posting a related picture is not mandatory but makes you awesome.
Don't wanna choose because you are lazy? Roll instead.

    1 - western
    2 - high fantasy
    3 - survival horror
    4 - sci-fi
    5 - dark fantasy
    6 - cyberpunk
    7 - steampunk
    8 - superhero
9 - small animals (rango, secret of nihm...)
    10 - noir
    11 - 30's pulp
    12 - post apocalyptic
    13 - space opera
    14 - warfare
    15 - present day
    16 - zombies
17 - classic horror (dracula, headless horseman...)
    18 - primitive/caveman
    19 - multiverse
    20 - present day

Let's see those settings go! I will gather the results and then post the results.

    Pic obviously related.

After the Great War, humanity struggled to rebuilt civilization. But even as technological progress reached Victorian-era levels, human greed stayed the same. An ancient artifact called the 'Onlommu' by the locals is found on another continent. But it had since fallen to the nefarious Bucksley & Montoya co., and through their corporate takeovers, your family's business as a steam mechanic is ruthlessly destroyed. You have escaped their death-squads with what few tools of the trade you managed to grab from your family's workshop.

The revived caveman, wandering the streets of Hong Kong, found shelter in the home of an old Kung Fu master. After learning Cantonese and Kung Fu from the old master, the Triad (who incidentally started the museum heist) killed the old master. Dark Fantasy / Noir is one of my favourite setting types of all time.

Zombie / Western is damned good fun.

Survival Horror / Post-Apocalyptic is great if you can keep the survival important and not make it too easy.

    Kung Fu Multiverse Post-apoc Western.
You are a Chinese immigrant in San Francisco, who knew Kung Fu by heart. By way of a freak accident involving a time traveler, the great San Francisco earthquake, and a posse of Mexican bandits, you, the bandits, and the time traveler ends up flying through alternate timelines. Are you a badass enough dude to teach them Kung Fu and return home to your timeline's San Francisco?

    Beware the dreaded doublezombie.

...Actually this would possibly be doable. Zombies vs zombies, I mean. Make it a game where there are two opposed zombie origins fighting each other, with the shreds of humanity left trapped in the middle. Like one side is infection from space zombies that came back with an astronaut (or is part of a pending alien invasion!) and the other side is either When Hell Is Full magical zombies, or bio-science style rage zombies / Resident Evil BoWs.

    Zombies vs Zombies! Totally doable.

    >small animals
    >30's pulp

Sounds pretty cool. All the animals can be western/desert species (rattlesnakes, jack rabbits, coyotes, scorpions), and the pulp-y western setting comes easily enough.

I'm running a dark fantasy/sci-fi game right now.

The players are loving that they can literally make anything and the setting can accommodate it.

Well, classic Horror, Noir and Dark Fantasy aren't that much of different if you stop to think about it. If i was to choose, i'd mix up present day with high fantasy. It surely was done before but i think it would be awesome.

    Steampunk noir.

Then again, I'll take any excuse to sit down at a table, roll some dice, and prove that I know way too much about steam engineering.

Never come to a session with plans that came out of a CAD program if you want to be taken seriously

    OP here.
I would like to thank all the elengan/tg/entelmen that have contributed with ideas and rolls. I will gather the results of the survey of the ones that expressed their preference, and I will soon post them.

And since you enjoyed the random roll game so much, I have something in mind that you will like...

    Stay classy /tg/

    Space Westerns are amazing.

Throw Knights of Cydonia in a blender with Firefly, and kimchi westerns, and you have the perfect genre ever.

present day earth, being fought over by two alien races outside of our detection, except a team of seti volunteers, who are now being hunted by human collaborators on both sides of the war, wanting to prevent the volunteers from revealing the war/aliens. Collaborator could also have alien tech, for volunteers to steal.
