    128 KB Professor X !Wz87.gYWh. 04/18/11(Mon)13:34 No.14635148
The year is 1995, and anti-mutant riots are sweeping the nation. Fearing what might happen to you if your true nature is discovered, your parents have enrolled you in Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, where you can learn to harness your amazing gifts, or at least be isolated from those who fear and hate you.

A few weeks ago you were simply Aino Virta, a fifteen year old girl living with a secret burden known only to your immediate family: your mutant power - until recently quite uncontrollable - to slow the fabric of time itself. You've been at the Mansion for less than a month, but in that short time you've seen things you wouldn't have believed to be true - your science teacher is a blue monster, your best friend can fly, and last week you were being chased across the Antarctic ice by a giant mutant-hunting robot! With everything else going on in your life it's a wonder you're able to keep up with your homework and practice your own power of temporal manipulation!

Luckily for you it's Friday... however, the weekend is still several hours away, and standing between you and lunchtime is Mr. Logan's short but daunting form as he surveys you and your classmates assembled in the open field between the Mansion and Breakstone Lake. After two days of nothing but rain, the warm weather has turned the field into a humid mess, and as you pull the foot of your UMF suit (the same kind of suit every one of your classmates is currently wearing) from the mud, you feel a little jealous that Sam can keep her feet off the ground.

    (continued on next page)
    >> Professor X !Wz87.gYWh. 04/18/11(Mon)13:35 No.14635155
As Mr. Logan gruffly doles out instructions, you survey the field ahead of you. Despite having access to the Danger Room and its seemingly infinite amount of solid-hologram locations, Mr. Logan has dragged enough equipment out here to give the field the look of a Marine training camp. "All right, half-pints. Listen up," he growls. "Course is simple. Start here, over the wall, through the tires, across those planks, and then under the fence. Got a couple robots on lone from Chu- from the Professor to slow ya down, so watch out fer 'em."

"Any questions?" Mr. Logan asks, looking around. "Powers're fine," he says in answer to Sam's raised hand, "but you ain't just gonna fly past the whole thing. See those painted signs? You gotta tag each one of 'em fer it ta count." Sam's cocky expression fades as she realizes that the signs are positioned in such a way that she'll have to go through most of the course on foot like everyone else.

As your physical fitness teacher checks his clipboard and readies his whistle, you take stock of your fellow students, all poised at the ready in one large splash page!

    * Sam (your best friend at this place, whose singular power is her ability to fly!)
    * Ricardo (a hotheaded young man with the power of kinetic manipulation!)
    * Clarissa (a chatty tomboy who can speak the secret language of machines!)
    * Luke and Mary Ann (two inseperable young telepaths who share a common mind!)
    * Caleb (a brooding young man whose powers are yet a mystery!)
    * Noah (Caleb's older brother, whose touch transforms him into a duplicate of anyone!)

*FWEEET!* Mr. Logan blows his whistle and the students scramble forward!

Roll a d100 to see how well you start things off, Aino! To roll, put noko dice 1d100 in the email field.

Around you the explosion of superpowered teenagers hangs in the air like a three-dimensional snapshot, intent faces all staring forward unseeing.

"Oh geez," Sam says, looking around at her frozen classmates and realizing what you just did. "I guess we don't have to worry about coming in last, huh?" she asks, grinning at you before pointing up to the top of the wall to where the first painted sign is affixed.

"But you still gotta get up there. I don't think I'm strong enough to carry you up..."

"Oh, hey!" Sam says, flying back just to the edge of Mr. Logan's immobilized form, to where a coil of rope left over from rigging up the course sits curled on the wet grass. With a smirk she carries it up to the top of the wall and ties it around a protruding beam nailed to the back of the wall and throws it down to you. With no hurry and Sam's shouts of encouragement you easily climb up the wall, and once you're on the other side Sam tosses the rope back down to Mr. Logan's feet.

"OK, ready," she says, positioning herself to spring forward as soon as you release the tachyon field around the two of you. Like Atlas shrugging off the weight of the world you relax your grip and time surges forward again, and with it your classmates come spilling over the wall!

Ahead of you is the familiar minefield of car tires seen in any B-movie training montage - you have just enough time before the other students overtake you to notice Mr. Logan glance down at the rope by his feet!

As Sam flits by ahead of you, a squat robot erupts from the ground at the edge of the tires and begins lobbing a volley of softball-sized projectiles at her!

Ricardo is almost at the end of the plank by the time you and Sam reach it, and Clarissa is in second place, trying as best as she can to stay on it as it bounces up and down! You thrust your last reserves outward, dragging time to a crawl over the entire course - but too late, for Caleb is inside your bubble along with Sam!

As you reach out to block him he swats your arm away and runs past, just as you lose your balance! Sam is helpless to grab you as you land on the bottom of the four-foot deep trench with just enough force to knock the wind out of you! The impact jars you and you lose concentration, letting the bubble pop and the timestream to flood forward again!

As you look up, Noah and Clarissa make their way onto the plank while Sam is struck by the narrow bridge's guardian once more!

Things look grim for our mutie protagonist!

With Sam holding the flagpole in her left hand and you holding it in your right, you grin at each other through sweaty, muddy hair, and Sam nods. "Let's do it."

Ricardo's face is a mask of exhilaration and pride as he leaps forward, clasping his fingers closed around - nothing?

He drops to the ground awkwardly, momentum carrying him a few inches through the wet grass to your feet, where you and Sam stand laughing, holding the flagpole between you! As Ricardo scrambles to get to it the two of you dodge back, shrieking with laughter as he slips again!

Clarissa is able to grab it before he can stand up, and from halfway back up the course Mr. Logan blows his whistle.

"Oh man, I am SO glad it's lunchtime," Sam says, wiping her brow with her arm.

"You look a little less dead," Sam remarks as the two of you walk into the drawing room to join Dr. McCoy and the others.

"Ah, there you two are. Aino, this book was already on the list of course books before you arrived, so perhaps this fortuitous coincidence will breach interesting topics," McCoy says, holding up a copy of a book titled 'Kindred'.

"The main character is a woman who travels through time, though quite against her will."

An interesting discussion to be sure, but toward the end of class the combination of exerting yourself to the point of breaking, lunch and a nap conspire to drag your eyelids closed!

You sit up with a start just as Dr. McCoy begins passing out copies of the book as the other students as they file out. "Have a good weekend, everyone," he says as you and Sam leave.

"Sooooooo..." she says. "I was thinking that maybe we could go someplace today? Someplace fun..."

"Maybe... New York City?" she says quietly.

Megan's conversation skills are a little lacking - you can't tell if she's just naturally shy or being isolated from everyone has that effect on her. Luckily for you Sam is there to keep the conversation going, even if she's the only one speaking. Eventually you touch on the subject of her enclosure, and she brings out her "diving suit" - a rather cumbersome full-body suit that encloses even her head.

"So this is it," she says, standing on the outside of her glass room for the first time in your presence. "I mean, if you two want to go do something else, I understand..."

Naturally you wouldn't have that happen, so you and Sam lead her out of the room and down to see the Professor about this idea.

    "I see..." he says.

"I'm sorry, girls, but if anything were to happen to the suit - a power failure, a malfunction of any kind - Megan's presence would put those nearby in jeopardy."

"That was exactly what we thought of, Aino," the Professor responds. "Unfortunately the Sentinel is designed to be largely tamper-proof - it will obey Clarissa's orders to a point, but it seems incapable of betraying its true masters, and like a cancer its original programming reasserts itself again and again."

"I think you should rest up a bit more before taking on the Danger Room," he says when you mention it. "Though Megan - if you care to try it out meet me there in five minutes. You girls may watch with me," he says, turning and floating in his hover-chair toward the door.

"A colleague of mine named Ms. Frost. She is headmaster of another school similar to this one in Massachusetts, but while her class is in Madagascar she is available," the Professor says as you all exit his office.

A few minutes later, you, Sam and the Professor look down from the Danger Room's window to Megan in her suit. On a pedestal next to her is a simple-looking bracelet. "All right, Megan," the Professor's voice echoes in your heads. "You may remove your containment suit."

Megan looks around, concerned for a moment, then hesitantly breaks the seals and removes it. Instantly arcs of lightning begin to leap from her body to the walls of the Danger Room, sending up blinding flashes of light! She grasps the bracelet and locks it closed around her wrist, and suddenly -

    Calmness.

"I'm sorry, I don't mean to be reading your mind, but I don't want to go to New York," Mary Ann says while Luke mouths the words along with her, trying his best to be silent and let her speak by herself. Having witnessed the successful test of Megan's new bracelet you've set about cornering all the other girls in the School to bring them with - and Mary Ann had the luck of being the first one you found!

"It's just that there are so many people, and their thoughts get really overwhelm-," the two of them say at once, before realizing that they're speaking in unison again.

Exhausted from your well-earned battles, you retire to your room early, flopping onto your bed and simply staring up at the ceiling until sleep overtakes you again. That evening you get up long enough to eat dinner and write a letter to your parents (omitting certain parts about supervillains!) before falling back asleep.

The next morning you, Sam, Megan and Clarissa all assemble downstairs near the Mansion's front doors with your overnight bags in tow, filling the room with nervous chatter. When the doorbell rings you all jump, and everyone else pushes you forward to answer it...

"Hello, child," she says to you. "Is Mr. Summers here?"
