    71 KB Kobold Sorcerer Quest Pt. 6 VKO !qw2cdBTZAc 05/08/11(Sun)18:53 No.14859703
You are Mynthar, kobold magistrate of the Crystal Cavern people.

You have left the place you were sworn to protect, chasing someone who, by all rights, should not exist. But for now, you are fairly certain you can indeed save him.

The strange, snake-bodied creature who could be Tayn lies unconscious, the anesthesia having done its work nicely. Dalak's underlings wet the ground and sweep away dirt, to prevent it from getting in the wound he is about to create.

"Scalpel." Dalak says, almost in the next instant, his eyes hidden by a pair of thick magnification lenses. You are unsure if you should watch or not. Dalak could probably use a reduction in stress, but you don't know if he can even see you behind those things.

Even as you turn away for a moment, you can still hear Dalak's orders.

"Alright, we've already moved one of those ribs out of the way during a previous operation, so the heart should be immediately visible..." You can hear the sound of flesh smoothly parting under the scalpel blade.

"The exact nature of this creature's anatomy is not known. However, at this point, we have a bit to guess at it before we cut that implanted thing out of its body." Dalak says. "If anyone of you anatomists can tell me something I don't want to hear, the operation stops right here."

One of the kobolds whispers an incantation and is quiet for a moment. "Ioun crystals staying in small clusters. No spreading since last time." She says, confidently.

"Cardiovascular system looks familiar." A more rapid voice says. "Professor, if I may double-check my assumption."

"By all means." Dalak says, his voice even as the prior speaker walks past you out of the field. He is a smaller kobold, with the tatooes of an initiate of the sorcerous rites, and is clad in a clean white smock.

Clearly this is way beyond us.
We shouldn't get in the way.

How many entrances are to this room?

What is Six doing? What was her mission again? If this turns out to be Tayn, then our mission would be complete and we'll leave, what will she do?

Only one entrance to this room, it's why we picked it, though we should still be within the Magnificient Mansion we summoned last thread.

The younger kobold is soon back, clutching a book in his hands as he walks back into the circle. "As I thought! Lung has a dual-chamber, exceptionally large, bones are semi-hollow, but have a have a hard exterior coating, and finally, the distinctive heart palpations, able to reverse the flow and function of arteries and veins in case of a puncture." He points at an image in the book. The majority of the assistants are crowded around it, and Dalak seems taken aback.

"So what we're working on is..." He says, pausing.

"A dragon, for now, I think. Some kind of undiscovered species?" He says. "Naturally, we would have recognized it on sight if it was."

"Alright, a dragon." Dalak says, accepting the explanation. "So where's the, erm, elemental gland?"

"The rerum sac? Erm, should be adjacent to the lungs..." The younger kobold says, searching for it. "Clearly, it isn't."

"Well, be on the lookout for it, then. Don't want anybody getting killed while we try to save this creature's life." Dalak says.

We can't be of much use to this operation, and the farther away that Mynthar is from that implant, the less that it will pump pain into Tayne.

Let's ask Six what she's going to do if all of the Burning Web agents are dead. We've got what we came for, and will need to go back to the Crystal Cavern in order to prepare a large military force to come here and clean out this facility.

Wait ... maybe Tayn always had this form but he manifested as a Kobold in our dreams?

Or worse, maybe the drow brain-washed this creature to think that it is a kobold and a freak of a brother to us?

Six's mission was to follow the agents of the Burning Web. As most of them are dead, her mission is probably over.

You are inside of a large tent, which is inside of a magnificent mansion spell. There is one main entrance and exit.

You step outside for a breath of fresh air, leaving the surgeons and sorcerers to their work.

You see Six relaxing next to Felixhia in the dining area, the normally quiet kobold chatting with her about cuisine. He is still clad in the metal-studded bodysuit he wore in his mechanized armor.

"Usually we make, um, a roux..." He stammers, obviously a bit uncomfortable.

"What's that?" Six asks, smiling. This does nothing to eliminate the smaller kobold's tense behavior.

"Well, you take mushroom flour, mixed with water in a roughly even amount, and boil it down till it's, um cloudy." He tries to explain, obviously struggling.

Six notices you, and turns her attention to you. Felixhia visibly breathes a sigh of relief. "Mynthar, good to see you. I was just about to enjoy some kobold cuisine. Felixhia was just telling me about it."

"Um, yeah. I, uh, was doin that." Felixhia mumbles, looking away from both Six and you.

Six shrugs. "If I told you our secrets, they'd stop being useful. Suffice to say, I will have to invent a new sign." She pauses, grinning. She draws a simple, jagged symbol in the air with one finger, using her right hand. "There, that should prove sufficient."

Herp derp new Ubuntu is retarded.

You all share a small meal, Six's metabolism being much faster than yours or Felixhia's.

You chat for a while longer before hearing a horrifying scream of pain from within the operation tent. You rise with a jolt, running over to the tent and seeing a huge lightning storm rising from the dragon's body, and Dalak on the ground, his hands smoking. The younger kobold who identified the creature appears to have pushed him to one side, and is caught in the blast, his small body convulsing horrifically as the violet electricity runs through him.

The words from your recent conversation ring in your head as you reach out for the kobold, words of protection almost screaming from another's mouth, the mouth of a madman, eyes wide with fear.

"Our position in regards to the other races has given us a...unique perspective."

Your metal fingers close around the kobold's arm, the current running into the electrical holster as you bestow him with similar protection. It will only hold so much. The young man has already been rendered unconscious by the energy, and you feel your muscles begin to tense as your rudimentary protection reaches its limits.

"Civility and professionalism are two things that are in short supply in the world. A state of affairs that is regrettable."

You reach in with your left hand, the surge of lightning dancing across your skin as you pull the boy's body out of the blast, the spell shattering into shards like glass as its protective abilities are spent.

"Though the brotherhood between our individuals is, I think, our greatest advantage. That's not the sort of thing you can make into a rule."

You feel electricity start to work through your muscles, the battery-like ore in your arm already having absorbed the most it can. You stagger towards the source of the energy, the dragon-like creature's body starting to shudder less and less, even as you feel every nerve in your body stab into your flesh like writhing needles.

"It's because we've been looked down on for so long that I think we can maintain that camaraderie, even when it means we face certain death."

You look into the wound for a moment, seeing the blackish-red blood start to fill up in the creature's body. You are in far too much pain to cast much of anything, the lightning anchored to you and coursing through you in seconds that feel like minutes.

You have little time to think. Rather, you have no time to think. Your hands are far too shaky to finish the operation, your body in too much pain as it is being baked by electricity, for you to get a spell off. Fortunately, you seem to be the sole recipient of the lightning bolt's ire.

It appears the implant has already been removed. Now, Tayn, if that is him, is rapidly bleeding to death.

You mentally order the servants to begin dragging people, and the phantasmal kobolds swiftly go to it. The one that touches you has the lightning spring to him and is instantly destroyed.

    >>14861338

In essence, your arm's implanted device works like a battery. It can absorb energy using a protection from energy spell, then keep the left-over electricity charged for a time. Rapidly re-charging it could cause serious damage however.

You can deplete the charge reflexively, but choosing to let it charge back up again would possibly start wrecking things in your arm.

You currently cannot cast anything because you are in too much pain.

    >>14861700

You command one of the servants to bring a metal object, and the first thing they bring you is a linegun. You take a step towards it, grabbing it and ramming it into the ground barrel-first and then falling backwards, the current now linked up to the very conductive weapon.

You breathe in and out for a while, the voices of those around you indistinct and muffled. You are just glad the pain is gone. No more of that nonsense.

You see the creature's body begin to shrink, changing back into the body of Tayn, a fresh new scar over his back as his scales return from a deep violet blue to a rusty red. He breathes, slowly, haltingly, but the valve seems to hold.

"Thanks to the ancestors." You hear one of the attendants say.

"I want a damage report on everyone besides me." You say to her, and she seems startled, slowly nodding.

Dalak's hands still retain some functionality, but the tendons and nerves were damaged. The younger kobold, Turen, shoved him out of the way and took serious damage. He is currently in a medically induced coma, with serious burns. Had it not been for you, he would have died. Chance of necrosis in a number of areas is very high, despite healing magic.

You look over at the tent where Tayn is recovering as your ships leave down the river, Six standing on the shore and watching you go. Was it worth it? You hope so. At any rate, your shedding for this season is going to be coming a few months early.

    End of Chapter 1.

He's really more of a twin brother, in my opinion.

Nice. We'll need to try to open up more trade with the surface world for magical healing, for both Dalak, who is a vital resource to our nation, and Turen, who deserves a commendation.

Also, thread has been archived, and has the proper tags.

Had he been a perfect clone of us I would a agree butclealy that not the case.
Also agree on the part that we need more trade with the surface in the future. To get better healing
