20 KB Doppelganger Bootleg IX (maybe) Tollymain !!ze5GOtMjMiN 05/14/11(Sat)22:08 No.14929409
This is Doppelganger Bootleg Quest. A tale of a freak, a monster; torn between ravening, mindless hunger and a newborn sense of self-awareness. This tale has yet to be told, and yet to be ended. Come to my table. Join the voices in this creature's head, urging it to either kill, consume, and survive; or to think, to grow, and to transcend its nature. In the end, your choices and decisions in conjunction with the roll of fortune's dice will determine this creature's fate.

    >Please refrain from posting until prompted.

    Last time on Doppelganger Bootleg:
    >Having escaped from prison, you sought sleep on top of a building. You woke from dreams of blood and fire in the bright morning light, and found your home after a short jaunt across the city. After checking to see if your belongings had been tampered with, you hit up the marketplace for some fuzzy food or something else useful. You picked up a new dagger, but found little else of value. Upon returning to your chambers, you discovered you owed some rent. You attempted to intimidate the landlord, but failed miserably at the attempt. Now you've got an hour to get your belongings out of the place before the guards come around, if you want to avoid trouble.
    What will you do?

Shape Memory: The current form you possess can be imprinted into your memory, allowing you to shift back to it after gaining a new form. This shapeshifting takes one minute. Only one extra form may be had at a time, imprinting a new form will overwrite the other one.

    Finally, Tolly's General Rules/Suggestions:
First choice of action to receive 3 votes, no matter how stupid or suicidal, will be undertaken. Especially retarded choices may receive a "Are you sure?", first.
Addendum: If there just aren't enough posts after about 10 minutes, first to two (or just plain first) decides.

This quest is being run using the Pathfinder system.

All consequences are decided in the end by my dice. If something attacks you, and the dice say it crits and nearly kills you, you better get ready to run. Especially since I've got plenty of other quest ideas.

Joke options may be given when I am tired and think they are hilarious. See: Death Blossom. These options are not actually on the table.

Please do not accuse me of railroading; I can quite honestly tell you I have no idea where this is going plot-wise. Just enjoy yourselves instead.

Shit, we're a shapeshifting, assimiliating, eternally-hungering monster and we're worried about our FUCKING LANDLORD?

Man, fuck the city. Grab what possessions we need and let's head out and hunt some animals or other wildlife to get some tasty stat boosts and whatnot. We can find a different city and do some hunting with a fresh start.

Take the glasses, lens, and the dagger.

If we're in the same form, we can probably check up with the elf and see if he needs any more help running jobs. If he's not around or doesn't have any other work for us, I vote for heading out of town and building up our stats/feats/whatever with different prey.

Attacking someone who usually sleeps in a state of readiness expecting a wild beast to be trying to eat their guts doesn't strike me as particularly clever.

    It is pretty risky.

It's just irritating that we need more skills to be able to take down our desired prey effectively, but the only way to get the skills that we need is to hunt and take down this prey. It's a catch-22 situation pretty much. So unless we just want to eat pigeons, rats and bums forever, eventually we're going to need to take a risk and go for bigger game.

I bet we can get some awesome stuff from animals in the desert though.

Oh, for fucks sake. Why is it that every time I am late for this quest I arrive to find people are doing something stupid?!

People seem to have forgotten that we actually have 2 forms and are capable of shifting between them.

People seem to have forgotten that we have 16 ranks in stealth and a +4 natural bonus (despite it being written in the second post)

People seem to have forgotten that we know of a stable where people keep pigs and that we still lack an important feat and some stats we were planning on going back for.

People seem to have forgotten that when we were arrested and tossed into that mining camp we were in our alternate replaceable form and thus are in no danger of being arrested or perused by the city guards, who probably believe we were eaten.

God damnit why are we leaving the city when we don't even know of anywhere else to go?!

    >A sudden thought strikes you. You slip off the gnome clothing, stripping down for the slaughter. You pull out your dagger, and carefully step into the boar's stall. You can smell the blood beating beneath its thick hairy hide.
You strike at it's neck, but the hide of the boar turns the blade awry. The creature squeals in pain and lunges into wakefulness attempting to slam you into the side of the stall. It succeeds, slamming you into the wooden slats. The sudden strike knocks the dagger from your fingers. The bird in the next stall begins to react with a weird honking sound, its vestigial wings fluttering.

Sorry guys, rolled poorly for the attack and a 20 for the boar's reaction.

    >You consider going back to the caravan, but if this one animal beat the shit out of you, you probably can't handle things that need a ballista. You slip back into your clothing, trying to avoid staining your garb. You mostly succeed.
Where do you want to go? Your stuff back at the dead gnome's lodgings probably been taken by now; no use in trying to retrieve any more of it.

I'd say find a nice roof, but I guess it's still super hot out, right?

Looks like everybody's faded away. I'm thinking of wrapping up now.

Quick poll. Is Saturday night 9-4ish EST a good time to run this quest? Is there a better time?
