    126 KB Girl Quest: Chapter 2 The Narrator !!fhyQBh9j3zK 05/20/11(Fri)00:56 No.14987470
You are in a hot air balloon. Below you, the land travels quickly, changing from one thing to the next as you pass. Soon, the forest where you have made your home is far behind you. You fly over a desert with bright purple sand, an icy wasteland, and a city on stilts built in a lake of lava.

In the the basket of the balloon, there is exactly enough space for Mallory, the one other passenger. Mallory was the first person you can remember encountering. When you first saw her, she was leading a small army of ghosts to drive you out of the forest. She lost the ensuing battle, and is now traveling with you in a search for other people, and maybe even answers to why you are in such a strange place to begin with.

    "Look, up ahead!"

Mallory sees the same thing you do. Off in the distance, there is distinct region that is much larger than any of the ones below you. On one side of it is a castle organized around a central tower, with progressively smaller towers and walls surrounding it. Winding between the walls are roads, neatly trimmed lawns, moats, and small ponds. On the other side is another castle, this one constructed of the same bare stone that forms the mountain below it. Roads lead in straight lines from the base of the mountain to the central tower, and you can see a few carts mounted on tracks as well.

Unlike everything else you've encountered, this region seems to be permanent. It stays in the same spot, and remains unchanged no matter how long you wait.

George is a polar bear, with slightly rounder edges than an ordinary one. He has spoken to you exactly once, to apologize for being banished by Mallory during your battle with her. Other than that, his willingness to obey you, and your ability to summon him (along with anything), he is a normal bear.

You stay on your current course, heading towards the border between the two castles. Once you are flying over the border, you bring the balloon lower for a better look. The two different styles of wall butt up against each other, sometimes pressed together, sometimes merging but always irregularly. In a few places, small misshapen wall offshoots trail off into empty space.

Mallory looks uncomfortable. When she sees that you notice this, she quickly hides her expression.

You steer your balloon to the right, quickly finding a large, flat grassy area free of obstacles to land on. Your balloon collapses to the ground as you and Mallory exit, vanishing by the time you look back at it. You can always make a new one, but for now you don't need it.

You take a brief walk along a cobblestone road crisscrossing the walled in area. After a short time, you find yourself at a small stone building guarded by a suit of armor. It moves slightly to stand at attention, and then remains perfectly still.

    "I do."

The voice comes from inside of the small building. The door opens. Inside, you can see a the edge of a workbench, some scattered tools and scrap wood, and a young girl who approaches and smiles, about to greet you. When she sees Mallory, her expression changes.

"You travel with HER? And you would bring her HERE, of all places?"

The stranger looks concerned. "Surely you can't want to defend her? She is a creature of pure destruction... you only survive because she is not powerful enough to defeat you."

There is one suit of armor. Now you can't quite focus your eyes on it. You look away. There are three suits of armor. The door of the workshop opens again. Two simple wooden mannikins walk out. One is in the process of attaching its leg to its body.

After summoning your fog wall, you heed your own advice, only to find that the landscape around you has changed. Walls have sprang up around you, and are still slowly rising, though they are grinding to a halt.

George appears in front of you, standing on his hind legs.

"You have to believe in George, he'll protect us!"
Mallory cries out "I will, but... I don't know if I can help!"

The fog swirls around the empty knights, but they swing their swords and trudge forward, clearing themselves a small area. The wooden men stumble about, limbs flopping unnaturally.

From the middle of the fog, the stranger calls out to you. "Surrender! I don't want to fight, but you leave me no choice!"

The fog wraps around the mannikins. The one to your right has its arm wrenched out of its socket by the fog's grasping tendrils, but it continues to wobble forward. The one to your left fares better, but it is still battered back and covered in scuff marks as it leaks wood chips.

Assumable all the 'little girls' in this setting have similar ability in the form of Imagination/Willpower and can create/alter reality.. as they know it.

Last episode, she attacked our peaceful forest, we defeated her, and now we're on an adventure.

I am assuming since we beat her and more or less have her captive, that she isn't regaining power like we are; so she doesn't rebel or try anything nasty... assuming she is actually evil, which she very well may be.. but as a good character I think we should defender her anyways.

You glance back. Mallory is fine, if terrified, in comparison to how she was when this battle started. Though she was as strong as you when she attacked you, her powers show know sign of recovering after her defeat at your hands.

The mannikins are having trouble, but the one on your left is managing to keep its balance and keep swinging its fist. Your wisp is having trouble holding itself together.

The stranger, seeing her knight about to blow away, stares at it intently, and it re-solidifies. This occupies her attention for the moment. The knight continues its painstakingly slow advance through the fog.

    The mannikins flail uselessly.

The empty knight manages to separate itself from George, swinging its sword at his midsection. It scores a solid hit, and the blow sends white fluff flying in the direction of the swing. George is still standing, but the gash in his stomach continues to leak fluff.

The stranger decides that this is the time for her to enter the fight herself. She moves forward, lifting her feet awkwardly as she enters the fog for the first time.

George is having trouble. Much of his mass has floated away in the wind, and the empty knight is having an easier time deflecting his bites, swipes, and body checks.

You sneak up on the mannikin that is occupied with the wisp and strike it as hard as you can. You knock it off balance, but it remains standing. Mallory is close behind you, apparently more scared of being left alone than she is of charging.

    File deleted.
Out of the corner of your eye, you see George slump to the ground, slowly deflating like an old, heavy balloon, the knight's sword protruding through his back.

The mannikin turns to you, its arms outstretched. When it is about to reach you, you cry out in fear. You can't help it. Of course, your wisp, connected to you as it is, responds, placing itself between you and the monster attacking you. Your wisp is gone.

Out of nowhere, the front empty knight is upon you as well. It floats toward you, much faster than it has ever been able to walk. You see the stranger in the background pointing at it with a look of concentration on her face. Again, you scream, and your final friend appears to absorb the blow. Try as you might, you can't get them back.

From then on, you are helpless. The knight and the mannikin quickly grab you, and you soon find the stranger's sword pointed at your chest.

    "Do you yield?"

    You pout.

    "Umm... Yes. Yes I do."

You pout some more, just to be sure.

You add, "Only an evil person would kill another, If you are righteous you will not hurt Mallory," as quickly as you can.

The stranger sighs. "I'm sorry, but I can't let her escape justice."

Mallory's feet have sank several inches into the cobblestone. She is unable to pull them out.

The stranger's sword shines once as it catches the sunlight. It is very sharp. She turns away from you, and wordlessly runs Mallory through with it. The sword is made of wood. Mallory and the stranger stare at each other. You blink. Mallory is gone.
