You stand up, and Soth's gaze follows you as he steadies himself, standing as well.
"Lieutenant, I have thought about it quite a bit." You say, folding your arms as you lock eyes with him. "Despite any misgivings others may have about your injury, I feel a man's best judge is himself. Should your condition worsen, don't push yourself to the point where it might be too much."
Soth nods, quietly.
"From this day forward, you will be part of a special task force, answering to myself and General Ghaon." You say, putting your hand on the table. "This organization will be kept secret to allow the handling of sensitive information. With your leadership qualities, I feel you can ensure we get the information we need to keep our community safe."
Soth seems a bit reinvigorated. "Sir, I will do my utmost to see this thing done." He gives you a quick salute, his hand over his heart.
You nod to him. "I should have the interviews completed by this afternoon. You may meet with the rest of the team after that time in the bunker at a location given to you by one of my messengers."
Soth grins. "May I say, it will be an honor working with you, sir."
You feel a bit of pride pass your chest as you acknowledge him with a nod. "Thank you. You are dismissed, lieutenant."
The remainder of the interviews go smoothly. You decide to keep a few on a watchlist, thinking they might be best suited for the team after they've accumulated a bit more experience. To the rest of the community, the men and women in the squad are working as evaluators in numerous areas throughout the caverns. One of the few occupations that seems to attract many different backgrounds, the society is overseen by the miners, and thus there is very little in the way of socialization between them and the other branches.
You crack your knuckles as the day ends, the metallic pop of ioun gas echoing in the quiet interview room. What will you do next?
