Most of the early hours of the day, you maniple spends learning from Blackbird. His class, one in effectively marching without giving away your position, using the grass shields he had built yesterday. It is a slow process, as it is not so much of a march, as a loosely organized crouching walk. Such a lack of order is rather difficult for the incredibly professional Gaius and Cornelius, as well as their men, to wrap their heads around. However, by the time Blackbird and his men must depart, he is confident that you will be able to make the trek on your own.

    -----CQ-----

By the time you reach the rear area of the enemy camp, it is nearly dusk. You position your men between the enemy camp, and their water source, where they wait in a rough formation, Cornelius and Gius battalions roughly to the center, the rest disorganized and spread out behind them. In the distance, you can feel the thousands of pounding, marching Degnarian feet approaching the enemy camp. The uursan must be able to feel it too, as their riders begin to sooth the suddenly stirring beasts, who, up until recently had been patiently napping since you arrived here.
    >> Maximus 08/14/11(Sun)21:39 No.15939714
Anyone approaching based on earth sense? Beyond that, I'm not sure what else we can do except wait at this point. People have their orders and know what to do I believe.
    >> GoldPanda 08/14/11(Sun)21:42 No.15939747
Tell the infantry and cavalry captains to get their men ready to form tighter formations. The archers should be fine in skirmish/loose formation.

Use earth elementalism to get a better sense of the tactical picture.

Do we have to roll for this?
    >> Maximus 08/14/11(Sun)21:43 No.15939764
    >>15939747
Not sure if we want tight formations just yet. In theory the enemy would be escaping from their camp to scatter, so we'd want our men more spread out.
    >> GoldPanda 08/14/11(Sun)21:45 No.15939781
    >>15939764
I agree. We'll stay spread out as long as the enemy are simply trying to flee. If they organize some kind of charge on our positions though, I want the legionaries ready to form phalanx, and the cavalry ready to form wedges.
    >> Pax !uGYNBMPzOs 08/14/11(Sun)22:10 No.15939986
You walk over to Sansa, who had been waiting beside you, and tell her, calmly "Have the legionaires and centurions ready to form phalanx, but loose enough to catch fleeing soldiers for now. The cavalry is to be in loose formations, but ready to form wedges, the rest in skirmish formation behind the line battalions. Calmly and quietly, love."

Sansa nods, and jogs off to the nearest captain to spread the word. About half an hour later, you can hear the battle being joined. The throaty, strained wail of screaming lacertan berserkers charging offset by the baritone howl of charging warlords. the clanking clatter of repeaters rattling off bolts, and the meaty sounds of those arcing bolts striking home, or the silence of them burring themselves into the dirt after doing naught but looking intimidating as they were silhouetted against the swiftly setting sun.

Shortly after that the taunting cries of legionaires plugging the exit behind the assault force. For a while, that is all they do, standing there, frightening the enemy, daring them to flee. Then, as the sun is nearly set, you hear Blackbirds unmistakeable voice bellowing "BREAK THEIR BACKS AND SHATTER THEIR SOULS!! BURN THEIR TENTS AND CLAIM ALL THEY HOLD DEAR FOR YOUR OWN. OVER THE WALLS!!!!" and at that, arcing ropes and swift footed figures can be seen moving over the massive earthen spikes that had served as walls. Shortly afterwards, through your stonesense, and what you can hear, you know that Malcius and his men are advancing into the enemy camp. As the sun sets, and a starry skys worth of glowing eyes begin to appear on the horizon as your allies begin to apply the moonseye paste. And, you can feel your foes breaking.
    >cont'd
    >> Pax !uGYNBMPzOs 08/14/11(Sun)22:11 No.15940002
For a while, the fleeing soldiers do not make it past Blackbirds traps, but eventually, those are spent. after that, your archers and cavalry easily scythe down the fleeing Uurlanthi soldiers. Eventually, you feel a solid three-hundred sets of feet rapidly approaching. Not in a wedge, nor in a line formation, , rather, half of an octagon, or at least a single face of it. they are tightly packed, and moving at speeds more appropriate for charging destriers than men or elves. Before them charge three massively heavy sets of feet. The entire force is perhaps fifteen minutes away at their current pace.

Behind them, in the enemy camp, you can feel the number of feet on the battlefield rapidly fluctuating, and bodies both falling dead... and rising. even worse, the cries of terror are not solely Uurlanthi any more.

Hmm. If they're headed in our direction, I say let's keep waiting for now and use our cover to try to surprise them. Also start ringing the bell. Only the necromancers will hear it so it should be fine. Hopefully that'll help out the folks in the camp.

Gah. Forgot to add - if they're not headed in our direction than we best send our infantry after them and have our cavalry move so that they're standing in the way this coming force is marching.

"The Bell!" you order, as loudly as you can without giving away your position. then you turn to the line infantry, the enemy formation rapidly approaching your loose lines "Prepare to receive enemy charge." you order, motioning to where the enemy force will pass. as you position the two battalions to receive equal portions of the enemy force. as a trio of hulking flesh golems break the horizon, each built for speed and killing power, the bell is sounded. They fall apart in spectacular showers of blood, bone, gristle, rotted, and arcane energy, leveling grass around them, and sending forth a noxious, putrid stench that you would think strong enough to raise more dead. In the distance, you see many corpses fall, and fail to rise, as well as the line of glowing eyes begin to advance towards you again.

Closer, you see the enemy formation barreling towards you. at its head, is a man, perhaps your age, clad in full scalemail, around him a force of what you can only assume are his personal guard and unhorsed knights, and behind them a ragtag assortment of uurlanthi soldiers belonging to other lords and lordlings. the leader mellows out "TRETZ!! SHOW YOURSELF COWARD, SO THAT WE MAY SETTLE THIS AS MEN!!" a a variation on the House Vistyek banner flows beside him. His armor glints in the light his body seems to be throwing off, his eyes glowing lightly, clearly, this man is a life elementalist, you realize, as his force passes the point of no return. Whether you answer the lordlings call or not, his man cannot avoid your own.

Let's just crush them as quick as possible. Get the men moving in to engage and have Jayne's cavalry move around to flank them. Smirking, you shout to your men "NOW They want a fair fight! UNLEASH HELL!!!!" and at that your entire maniple springs from the grasses, the legionaires in phalanx formations, the archers already firing, Lena and your elementalists adding to the slaughter. You drop a pit directly below the leading lordling, who merely launches himself over it. the onrushing Uurlanthi continue to barrel forward, dodging and blocking as many attacks as they can. Despite the massive swaths your salvo cut through their ranks, the men and elves determinedly throw themselves into your formation. Like a brick wall they strike, all of them enhanced by the few life elementalists in the center of the formation, their morale kept high by the encouraging cries of their leader. The ones that are disarmed or wounded simply throwing themselves bodily against your phalanx, pushing for all their might until they are cut down. Whether by sheer impact, determination, desperation, or stupidity, they are actually shifting your formation backwards, and indenting the center of it, as they attempt to split the two line battalions.

You signal for flanking charges, and for Lena to see to slaying any enemy elementalists. As you ride into the enemy formation, you see Colin in combat with the lordling, the former grinning from ear to ear, the latter simply focused on fighting past the dwarf to continue leading his charge. Just before your charge, you try to tear into the enemy formation with earthen spikes, however, the angle at which you begin the spike chain is rather upsetting to Spite, and despite its average results, sends you flying from the Uursan as he maneuvers around a spike you erected. As you come to your feet, and the noose closes around the enemy force, the man who held the lordlings banner charges at you. After a few blows are traded, you realize why the lordling chose this man as his right hand and banner bearer.

"You will not reach lord Raul. I will see to it myself." the man promises, as he catches one of your thrusts on his shield, and counter-strikes high.

You block the strike easily, and as you sweep at his feet, you contemptuously reply "I do not need to reach your pathetic lordling, my best swordsdwarf, a master of the Seven Stances, is subduing him."

Unnable to see the gridlock the aforementioned pair behind him are in, the bodyguard replies "Your dwarf may be skilled, but can he outlast a man who does not tire?" Your reply is a trio of strikes with the tip of the blade Vi grew for you, as you begin to step into a distance more appropriate for the Wolf stance, though you are a master of neither, the latter is a stance that you are far more comfortable with.

the man laughs as he dodges past one of your sweeping strikes, and lashes out at you with an angled slash. As soon as you move to block the blow, the angle reverses, and his blade burries itself deep into the elbowjoint of your right arms armor. the blade slides up into your bicep, burning like fire as you continue to shout specific orders to your men, pointing out weak spots in the enemy formation even as the enemy knight pulls his blade free along with bits of your flesh. You do your best to block his next blow, though your attention is more dominated by screaming for Gaius and Cornelius to condense and combine their ranks to stop their battalions from splitting.

Your determination to get that order accross earns your left leg a nasty kick, and forces you to plant the leg in place as you feel the knee pop out of its place. Finally, you bellow for the rest of your cavalry to ride ahead to finish off what few stragglers are still flowing from the enemy camp, as your foes dances to your side, and opens up a gash that severs your short ribs from long ribs cleanly and deeply. You pivot to face the man, grinning "Now that that has been seen to, shall we finish our fight?" you ask, as Collin disarms the lordling, kicks him to the ground, and shatters his sword arm with a trio of well placed stomps.

The man before you eyes your damaged body in terror "What... what sort of demon are you?" he stammers as you drop into your fighting stance as best you can.

"Demon?" you quip, before spittiong out blood "I'm the Midnight Dragon."

You attempt to impale the man before you on stone spikes, which he dodges, unfortunately for him , that puts him well withing your striking range. You lash out with your shield, its battered, melted, dragons face soon weeping blood as you smash the mans face in. Ignoring the screaming pain, you advance on the mans prone form, and raise your sword arm. As the man begins to beg for mercy, through what is most likely a mad and feverish face, you reply "Mercy? Had you never taken up arms against Degnar, perhaps. As it is, your mere presence puts my wives, and those who I see as brothers and sisters in mortal peril. so long as you, and any of your countrymen dare war on my homeland, forcing myself, and those I count as mine no other choice but to defend our homes, there can be no mercy." You drive your shield into the mans sword-arm, shattering the shoulder, and preventing him from defending himself, as you impale his other arm on an earthen spike "And now, you, and all of your ilk, shall die, like the dogs you are." and at that, you plunge your blade into the mans gut. his body surges upwards, arcing from toes to back as it locks in pain. Seconds later, it falls limp to the ground, foam and blood seeping from his mouth, eyes ears, nose, and every other orifice still seeping blood.

All around you is perfect calm, as men, elves and dwarfs look on in awe. You flourish your blade, cleaning it of blood, as you look about, expectantly. Seconds after your foes begin to warily close in on you, Jayne on Stormcloud, with Spite galloping beside her, burst through the enemy soldiers. Your fiance lifts you up on to Spite one-armed and looks over to you, as she quips "Must I watch over you like your mother every time we take to the field?"

As you begin to cut down enemy soldiers, adrenalin and anger driving you onwards, you reply "Only when I have more important things to do than actively fighting."

she shakes her head as she smashes her polehammer into an Uurlanthi knights head "So, yes, I do have to watch you constantly."

    -----CQ-----

after finding Jayne, to properly wake you up, you look around the celebration, which dominates the space wehre the central command tent was, and all four of the training fields that had surrounded it. Near the food tent, Sansa is sitting across from Commander Gabriel, Uurist, and Collin, adn several soldiers are ferrying drinks to the table in preparation as the four stare each other down. At a nearby table, a crimson-faced Lena is standing on top of the table, shouting something you cant quite make out to an incredibly confused looking CAtalina, who is clutching a small, topaz-eyed furry creature as she shies away from your mage, several empty tankards near the fiery-haired ones feet, a single cup of what looks to be wine at the silver-haired ones side. Elsewhere, Gius, Cornelius, Blackbird, Finian and Malvius are drinking together. Aurelius and Bellatrix are nowhere to be seen, but Jayne and the Khaarynchek are as close to the stable tents as they can be without the food and drink tents being too far away from them.

She stumbles, slips, and falls, posterior first, back onto the bench Catalina is sitting on, sending slight tremors through the table.

Catalina looks to her, confused, as her little golem, most likely one of the lizzards that Blackbirds men had been fighting, though she looks to have grafted a rabbits fur to its body, along with some songbirds wings "But why, i just decided to... to, betray" she whispers the last word, clearly ahamed "Uurlanth. "It's quite alright. Wulf had to be sent away on, well, special business. An errand I could only trust him and one other with. Believe me when I say he is every bit deserving of Lena's affections. As for the communing, We'll do that tomorrow. Tonight is for celebrating."

Lift the girl's chin until she makes eye contact.
"Stop lowering your head and apologizing, it is unbecoming for one with your skills or anyone in this maniple, for that matter. As for your 'impatience', the question was perfectly reasonable. The truth is that I have no idea where Wulf currently is, nor what path he currently takes under Eago's watch."

We should be careful not to give too much away about where wolf is, just in case.

You lift the girls chin and look her in the eyes "YOu didnt do anything wrong, so why must you keep on looking away? Your question was perfectly reasonable, its simply that I do not know where Wulf is. His path is being guided by Eago, and all I know is that he will return alive, eventually."

Catalina nods "Oh... I hope I get to meet him soon then, Lena wont stop talking about him whenever I mention him."

As you return to the main celebration, you look to Catalina one more time "Lena didnt pressure you into joining us, did she?"

Catalina looks shocked "Oh no, of course not! She... she would never do something like that."

You smirk "Excellent" you look up to see Lena and one of the soldiers having a 'sword fight' with a pare of spare tentpoles, or, what is left of them. You have a sinking feeling that one of your tents is going to be much more difficult to put up in the future. "Now go, have fun, keep Lena out of trouble... adn tell me the name of that little, thing, that you have on your shoulder."

Catalina blushes, and pets the little golem, which makes a dry hissing noise as it moves air through its throat "Oh... I didnt name it yet. I'm actually surprised that... that it worked. Lena had mentioned that it was as shame that nothing I could make was cute, so... I, um, I was thinking about cute things when I was going through the... ritual, that Lena found, and..."

Kyria cuts her off "You should give it a name, but... I have no idea what to name it." she laughs.

Catalina looks away, but quickly looks back to the dwarf "I, erm... you could help me... I dont know what to call it either." Laughing, Kyria takes the girls arm and saunters over to Lena. Before long, and incredibly inebriated Lena, and a fairly drunk CAtalina and Kyria are sitting around a table spewing names for a confused looking flesh golem. Unfortuanately for all involved parties, every last proposed name is preposterous.

    >gah, I'm tired, so I'm gonna call it here. we can finish this shindig next time.
