Today's legend is about the orcs living in Urrug. As these warfaring creatures were pillaging around, plundering the riches of the worlds riding their fearsome worgs, it became more and more obvious they would be leading the world by the sword... one thing leading to another, the few cultures around became scared of them and slowly, the myth of an invincible horde would spread. This being true or false wasn't the matter... as long as people would believe it, the morale impact would make it true nonetheless... terror is a weapon on it's own.

As for the creatures? They are surely happy to be considered the greatest threat on this side of the ocean!

Meanwhile, humans discovered the heart of their new capital... the Moon reactor, a sphere of pure mana, flowing both from light and darkness... and succesfully started it with the instructions spread in the city! Soon, magic would be a convenient power source to help in everyday's life in Selenia...

Nzrqnr has claimed the subterranean sun, this troubled Grogar; What would he do with such a powerful force?
To the south in the jungles and swamps of the world an alliance was born, sealed by a golden fruit. In the desert at the foot of a great volcanoe the Orcs created a mighty army, not out need but out of sheer bloodlust. Grogar knew that war was coming soon. Besides a few groups of warriors the world was otherwise undefended...

However the Saken had other things to worry about. Some Saken grew tired of their enviorment, the unforgiving glaciers they lived on beared little food. Rumours spread of a great isalnd to the north: a warm island full of food and resources!
Some Saken journeyed to this new land. They settled in an abandoned city.

From there the pilgrims were changed, they became smaller and less tough. Quicker and more clever than their ancestors. They named themselves "humans"

In societey the humans and the Saken don't get along well despite being of the same bloodline. The humans have no quarrels with the Saken, however the Saken find the humans to be weak-willed and otherwise cowardly warriors. However they donot dare attack, knowing that Grogar, their God would not approve of such acts of senseless violence. It wasn't long infact until the humans started exporting wood to Pantheon, this improved the relations between the two races. With this wood the Saken could build better ships and house themselves better.

Wooden houses were now the norm in Pantheon.

One day a Saken villager was exploring the glacier, he came across a huge mountain with odd symbols carved into the sides. He studied these letters and brung them back to Pantheon. They were studied and, with time, were found to bring mens words to life. However the order of the Sacred Sword forbid such magic, telling them it was evil and unpure.

And so did the Saken swore to never use magic. However that wouldn't stop them from using the symbols. From these symbols runes were born, special stones with magic symbols carved in them. It was later realized that one could use these runes to imbue weapons with magic. And so enchantment was now practiced among the city.

Grogar knew that war was coming to his lands, and knew that he had to act soon.
"Thornak, my faithful avatar...Tell the people of Pantheon to create an army as soon as possible." And so he did.

He knew that this wasn't enough, however, and contacted the city council and told them to raise an army aswell.

He hoped this would be good enough for the time being.

Grogar inspected the Sakens armies, they were tall, strong, and faithful to their God. But a warrior needs the proper equipment, they wielded leather armor and rusty iron sword: not fit for a true warrior.

Grogar guided the black smiths of Pantheon. The weapons soon improved quickly as each smith taught the next how to properly craft a weapon.

Pantheon had become overpopulated, its houses were filled to the brim, and its streets crowded. A new city must be made, and so Grogar showed the path to a new city. Settlers moved to the new location and started building a new city. The city was named "Askar" after a famous Saken warrior.

The Gabu, with their new agricultural outlet, created great tracts of irrigated land within the great swamp. The fruit imported from the Naga took surprisingly well to the soil surrounding Xuhanuin, granting a sweet delicacy and prime sacrifice for the citizens. As the fruit became common-place, the magical essence of the world tree altered the Gabu who ate it continually.

It took a half of generation, but their teeth grew sharper and stayed more potent longer, their lives grew by a good decade, their strength swelled, and their minds grew sharper. Pleased, Bo'gash knew it was time for his Gabu to venture from their home in search of new "fruit".

Gathering his high priests at the temple Gashuni, he commanded them, saying: "You have all felt the growing strength of the Gabu, as revealed to you by your ancestors. Now, just as the fruit from the Great Tree has empowered your bodies, you must now go and empower your tools, for even the bee cannot survive without a deadly stinger."

The high priests, all agreeing with their creator, summoned a retinue of Gabu hunters and fishers. With a satchel of supplies and a single direction, they were instructed to search the long mysterious island for potential resources. The expedition left, crossing at the great river that separated the island from the swamp. After almost two months of gathering, evaluating, and marking, the group returned to Xuhanuin in triumph.

"Oh high priests, speakers of the Great Spirit, we have good news to report. Though the island is colder and drier than we are used to, it houses deep within its soil magnificent stones. We tried to carve it with our tools, but it was resilient! Surely, if we extract this stone, our warriors blades will sing with the blood of prey!"

The high priests, conferring with the elements, ordained that the island was a sacred place of great wealth and power for the Gabu. Though settlement was minimal, the high priests saw it as a future bead on the necklace of the great Gabu empire.

Though the stone was in limited supply, enough was gathered for the Gabu order of Still Water to patrol the swamp, even more assured of their deadliness.

Bo'gash knew that his people must first be strengthened, for in his prideful eyes, one Gabu hunter had no equal. Even the tall, hairless ones across the great sea with their frozen homes and green-skinned fanatics to the south would admire the Gabu hunting prowess.

Grogar looked upon the armies of the Saken, impressed by their power and strength. But above all, by their willingness to obey. "The strongest in all the lands," Grogar did declare and he commanded them to forge him a navy worth of his name so that their might could be shown to the rest of the world's creatures.

As the Saken trained more warriors, those who were too weak or docile to fight set to work building a shipyard at their great capital of Pantheon. The construction took years but eventually was complete.

Seeing the strength of the wooden vessels that the Saken planned (but did not yet build) at Pantheon, Grogar deemed them seaworthy but not yet worthy of his name. The Saken, as such, forged great ballistas which were mounted on their ships.

Bo'gash oversaw the expedition's initial travel, leaving his swamp for the first time in ages. His spirit flew over the strange tree line, observing the wildlife that had taken root outside of his bosom. They were nothing compared to his swamp's ferocity, but the docile nature of the island made it the perfect expansion for the Gabu.

Returning to his swamp in an instant, he once again summoned his high priests; the very same ones who dictated the exploration. In a swirl of green, Bo'gash painted pictures of the land beyond as he spoke:

"The island is a great asset to my children. If the Gabu are to thrive, they must claim this land for their own. Go forth, and command that a city be built."

"But Great Spirit, the island is so strange. How will we survive without our ancestors guidance?"

"Are you not descended from Caxuh, the greatest predator?"

The high priests stammered for words.

"Yes, but we must not send our people out without-"

Bo'gash's form grew furious. The high priests shielded themselves, scarred for their lives. However, Bo'gash quickly subsided, formulating a different approach with his priests.

"Tell the Gabu that this island is the newest prey. Go forth, and slay her. The killing blow will be when the Gabu may call the island their own."

The high priests, consulting with the ancestors, slowly agreed.

The next day, the proclamation went out to Xuhanuin and the outlying villages of the strange new creature that existed beyond the swamp. Within the month, many young Gabu, seeking new adventure outside their normal hunting grounds, clamored at the news. Traveling by raft, they made landfall along the major landmarks that the first expedition noted.

The climate was strange, the creatures more fleeting, and the floral unknown, but within two generations, the Gabu had begun the outlying ring of huts that would serve as the main city on the island. The settlers named it Xum, for it was their prey.

With the strange wildlife, there was also the same strange earth. The obsidian, a deep gray, was, to the Gabu, the best macuahuitl and spear material. Now within grasp, the Gabu immediately set about ritually mining the stone. The first obsidian samples, originally brought back in meal piece, were undeveloped and impure. However, with a lasting settlement, the Gabu were free to search for purer and sturdier supplies.

With a sudden influx of obsidian in the capital of Xuhanuin, the high priests saw a chance to flaunt their new-found wealth to (although seldom) visitors. The temple of Gashuni was remolded, sporting more intricate displays and moldings; a direct byproduct of the Gabu's newly advanced obsidian tools.

Torrmal observed the land and found it to his liking, for the people were not yet to comfortable and carefree to attract his attention. But that did not mean that he sat idle, no he knew that without taking action the world would eventually become a disgustingly carefree place where the weak and prideful sat in their homes without knowing of hardships nor the lessons they gave.

So Torrmal had to prepare so that he could save the world from this fate. He had to show the world his curses, and make them fear them. He had to move his gaze over the people and make sure they grew strong and wise from disaster and suffering.

He then went to the world tree and tore off a branch as big as a grown man, he smiled and took it with him, to the land of the Skaken. Once he got there he knew he had come to the right place. He took the branch and shaped it into an axe, changing the leafs into the blade and turned the bark into beautiful decorations. He then hardened the axe until it was nearly indestructible and looked at what he had made. It was the finest axe the would had ever seen, and most likely would ever see. Warriors would fight over the axe to become the owner of it, and perhaps that in itself could be considered a curse, but Torrmal was not done.

The world tree had been damaged, if only a little, to make the axe and thus a great prize must be paid to hold possession of it. Those who held the axe would live as long as the World Tree, but be rejected by all they meet as all who gazed upon them would feel animosity, fear, anger and mistrust towards the holder of the axe. Only by striking the axe into the earth with all the strength one can muster, could anyone break themselves free from the curse and rejoin their people.

Once he was done with the axe and its curse he threw the axe down into the middle of the large island that the Skaken called their home. He then whispered into the ears of those prideful that there was a treasure to be found that only the strongest could wield. Eventually a Skaken came to claim the axe, but as he pulled the axe from the ground his followers grew jealous, once they had been friends but as soon as the axe was pulled neither of them felt any friendship for the axe's owner. In the end all but one were dead in the snow as the wielder of Torrmal's first curse upon the land walked back home, unaware of the full extent of the price he had paid.

Grogar looked up the prosperous shipyards of the Saken and guided them to building the greatest warships and transport ships the world had ever seen. Their ballistas caused the trading vessels from other civilisations to tremble in fear and soon a vast fleet was at work patrolling the seas of Pantheon.

However, the Saken at Pantheon soon became enamoured with their newfound power. They made rivals out of their Askar brethren and their confidence soon evolved into overconfidence. Soon, they thirsted for a test for their power.

Seeing their bloodlust with fear, Grogar decided to create a powerful clan within the Pantheon-dwellers so that they could be kept under control. And as such, he created the Worshippers of Peace, a second order within Pantheon with vastly different goals to the first. They would seek to achieve pacifist aims and to avoid unnecessary conflict, started purely because of the strength of Saken arms.

With tooth, fang, fist, and fire the Orcs tore through Itza, relentlessly slaughtering its inhabitants. The city was reduced to ruins, and some escaped, but not all.

Not all were killed, either. No, the Orcs were clever enough to leave some of the Naga to roam the jungles. Torrmal watched the first wielder of the cursed axe fall and another pick it up and thus gain its curse. Things were as they should be and so Torrmal was pleased. He watched the Orcs surrounding Yggdrasil and wondered if perhaps their greed had made them a good target for a curse. But that would have to wait for now, first he had pressing business to attend to. His fellow gods had companions, but he was shaping the world alone. So he made a companion who would inspire despair through the hardships and suffering she would put people through, and he called her Captcha.

He was pleased at his new companion and showed him the axe bearer who had taken a ship to escape his homeland, foolishly hoping that it is only his own people who shun him for the axe. Torrmal told her about the purpose of curses, how they force people to grow strong. And once he was done teaching her what they needed to do, he gave a demonstration.

So he once more looked down upon the Orcs surrounding Yggdrasil and smiled. They had brought bloodshed to the sacred tree a thing worthy of punishment perhaps, but there were other things that attracted Norrtol's curses. He observed the Orcs, a warlike race once born from clay, now masters of the world tree, or so they thought. This would bring them pride and that would not do, pride and peace were the things that drew Norrtol's gaze and thus he placed a curse upon them.

For driving away the guardians they would be forced to become the guardians in turn. For bringing bloodshed to the great tree their hands would turn red marking them for all time. And to curb their pride, they will be forced to pay the tree their respects.

Once the curse was in place, they were forever unable to harm trees, be it to burn for heat or to build their homes. The only wood available to them would forever be that harvested by others or fallen branches taken from the ground. And in their hearts a feeling started growing, the world tree were their master, they had to protect it and keep it safe. In time this feeling would perhaps turn into worship, but Torrmal cared not, his work was done.

The Skel'triy observed their world as their creator before them had, and they saw turmoil cropping up like weeds in a garden, they believed that the only way to counteract these acts of evil were with acts of good. They decided to introduce themselves to their neighbours to the east, these "humans" as they called themselves. Upon greeting them, they encountered their first dilemna, a language barrier as great as th ocean surrounding their island, but Rhondish saw this and granted them an ability that would overcome this obstacle, the power to read minds and absorb knowledge, soon, the "ash giants" as they were called were speaking the tongue of the humans as if they had been speaking it as long as the humans themselves had. Friendship quickly blossomed between the races.

Random Fluff- The Skel'triy appear as thin humanoids of about twice the hight of a regular man. When curious, they scuttle around on all fours like giant grey crabs, but when said curiosity has been sated, they will rise to their full height. The females of the race have longer legs and are very light in shade while the males have longer arms and are more gunmetal grey.

From the rocky peaks of the northern island rose a terrible tower bore from the strongest stone from the deepest of mines. It was built directly on top of the entrance the subterranean sun. It became known as the Grim Star Citadel.

At the deepest reaches of the cave to the sun, Nzrqnr stood overlooking the powerful fires below. Exerting a large amount of power, Nzrqnr split the core of the planet in two, leaving the vast majority of the star in its proper place. A smaller fraction rose from the pit, upward through the citadel. The god placed the fraction, though formidably powerful still, atop the Citadel. The energy from the star bled to the blight, strengthening its hold on the nearby land. Nzrqnr knew that he would have to corrupt the pure force of nature, should he wish to utilize its potential.

It was now that Nzrqnr looked at the Nameless. For too long their only purpose had been to build his walls and maintain the blighted land. Nzrqnr took from among them, the cruelest and strongest. Those became more than just merely keepers of land, but cunning forces of horror. The God gifted them with a hunger for mortal souls. They would become known as the Maertrikith.

    Create Subrace (Maertrikith)

Furthermore, due the widespread nature of the blighted land as it stood and what it was to become, Nzrqnr deemed the most favored Maertrikith leaders amongst the wretched nameless. These became known as the Lidless Eyes.

Grogar looked to the West and saw the dark lands of the Nameless spreading the blight across the world. He then turned his eye to the southwest and saw the Orc pillagers devastating the landscape. In one masterful move, Grogar decided to protect his own people, the Saken, from the horrors of the Nameless and to challenge them by directing them to the Orc homeland. Only the strongest would survive and he would feed off of the despair of the fallen. With this in mind, Grogar cast his hand over the seas between Pantheon and Nwraen, filling them with devastating whirlpools.

Ugroll was furious! Never to harm trees again? Clearly his children would have to find an alternative.

In his rage, the god sundered the high mountain of Urrog. Veins and clusters of dark metal ores were revealed at the heart of the mountain, and the Orcs of the Big Town were quick to unearth them. The Cyclops himself contributed to the effort, pulling huge boulders from the mountain for the Orcs to pick away at. Soon their growing armies would realize what a boon the metal would be.

Over the years, the world shifted due to races actions as it should, and the Skel'triy were no exeption, they used minerals from deep within the earth to construct a massive fortress which is in actuality the only entrance to their real homes, an endless series of tunnels and caverns beneath the mountains. The fortress would mainly be used in political and military matters but would otherwise remain mostly empty.

With everything in motion, Belnan didn't have muc more to do right now...

However, there were two things left for this age. Two guardians... and luckily, or perhaps according to a greater plan, the Book was lost... during one sea travel if was sent in the ocean's depth, only to be salvaged later by members of the Lidless Eyes.

The creatures not knowing at first the true power of the Book, could see it as a simple notebook about tales from the world around... a nice tool to scare children, but also a source of ideas for futures blights to cause. Decided to add one new chapter, they were surprised to see it become true as their words were put on paper. What they were doing? Writing a false story about a powerful set of guardian, eater of dreams made of subconscious shadows, living near the Subterannean sun, to scare anyone approaching. Now it is here, living among their creators, killing indistincly the weak minded.

As for the pearls, Belnan himself gave life to living shells, giant starfishes, mastodon crabs... wonderful creatures all dangerous for the sentients.

And the Humans? They were making progress understanding the dual nature of their magic and are now fully able to build upon it, mastering light as much as darkness. Soon, their number will be enough to spread across the continent.
