56 KB Chapter Master Quest (starting....) Anonymus 10/15/11(Sat)14:34 No.16633591
Well since last thread we mainly created the chapter now its time to start this.... finnaly...

Now we are Kaankas.... Or as in imperial records Crimson Spectres..... A Raven Guard successor chapter....

We control the Sub-Sector of Archais which consists of three planets

Tarren is an agriworld which provides food for the sub-sector and some more........
Pyrax is a fledling forge-world. Though it supplies our chapter and sub-sectors defense force it factories arent advanced yet.....
Rhanda is the final world in the sub-sector. She is our secret homeworld which's existence is known only to us..... She is a shadow planet. Her atmosphere surrounded by black gas clouds which absorb all light instead of reflecting it or letting it reach the surface thus making Rhanda invisible from outside. And by this reason, on Rhanda its always night...

Now as a fledling chapter we now field three companies... And under our command we have

    300 marines
    consisting of

    60 terminator
    120 assault marine(40 veteran)
    80 tactical marine(30 veteran)
    40 devastator marine(10 veteran)

    Also we have

1 land raider(we have yet to name)
    2 predator tanks
    2 land speeders
    12 bikes

Our chapters Master Librarian is Lucius Fenix

Epistolary Fenix is a psyker who has great potential. He can equal any master librarian if given enough training and time but his lack of restraint and arrogance made his mentors think of him as a threat more than a fellow battle brother. Because of this he was distrusted by his brothers except you and Chaplain Azakniel who trusted in him and counted him as brother. And for this reason Fenix is loyal to you and Azakniel..... And he is dedicated to prove himself to his new chapter at your side.
    >> Anonymus 10/15/11(Sat)15:15 No.16633909
Our chapters High Chaplain is Azakniel also known as The Great Teacher.

Azakniel is a chaplain who mends the damaged souls of his brother with not words of zealous priest but with the words of a wise warrior. Since he is 700 years old carrying experience of 600 years of active duty. His presence is something that inspires man and gives them confidence. His will is unshakable as his faith in his brothers. He is also respected for trainning most of the neophtyes to the chapter. He enjoys passing knowledge and wisdom to the young brothers and he is kind to those who needs guidance. His crozius arcanum is two handed resembles a force hammer more than a staff. He also makes us of jump packs in battles. But believing to the importance of adoptice battle tactics he carries with him a bolter and combat knife for his crozius may not be enough....
    >> Anonymus 10/15/11(Sat)15:22 No.16633974
Corwin Arkath is the chief techmarine of your chapter and also an old friend.

You were in same squad back then when you were both battle brothers. You Arkath and Kaleth were close friends. Arkath have always been a short tempered one. He was logical and pragmatic but also has great skill at crafting and understanding the workings of machinery. Thus he was sent to Mars to become a techmarine. Though he all techpriests complained about his disrespect for rituals and prayers needed to work the machines his mind was a quick and creative one thus making him a capable techmarine.
    >> Anonymus 10/15/11(Sat)15:28 No.16634019
    2nd Company Captain Kaleth

A fellow battle brother and a reliable comrade Kaleth was always a joker. He never let grim nature of his work get to him and always the one who cheered up his comrades. Though his superios complained much about his attitude this also made him loved by his fellow battle-brothers. He is cunning and resourcefull but as a captain his real value lies in his ability to keep his squad morale high, even under the worst circumstances.
    >> Anonymus 10/15/11(Sat)15:33 No.16634060
    1st Company Captain Adeon

Adeon was your second in command when you were sergeant. And after you became a captain he still continued to be a valuable friend and comrade still serving at your side. Sadly he lacks the cunning and creativness to be a good captain and mostly acts according to codex but he makes up these by being extremly loyal. His loyalty to you is compelete and he is ready to risk everything he knew just to serve you.
    >> Anonymus 10/15/11(Sat)15:39 No.16634106
    3rd Company Captain Ancharon

Ancharon is the youngest captain of your newly formed chapter but he is also a great tactical genius. Showing great skill and creativity at leading men he is an excellent leader. He always have a plan and never loses his calm. Though he is somewhat cold and distance himself form the rest of his brothers.
    >> Anonymus 10/15/11(Sat)15:43 No.16634147
    Chief Apothecary Valerion

Valerion have always been more interested in saving lives rather than taking them. Though he knows his responsibilities as a warrior he prefers to fight against maladies and wounds rather than more direct enemies. Knowing his grim duty he is always at the front lines in a battle saving lives of his brothers, for thoese he cant he gives them the emperors mercy...

" İt was never meant to be strict set of rules for a how a space marine should live and fight, rather it was a guideline for those who needed advice and insight. High Chaplain Azakniel
    Chief Librarian Fenix
    Chief Apothecary Valerion
    Chief Teachmarine Arkath
1s,2n and 3rd company captain Adeon,Kaleth and Archaron

You nod at them and walk to your place at the head of the strategium table.

-İts good to see everyone assembled. But before we start this meeting. Archaron, Adeon. Tell me more about this voilation of codex you two were arguing about.

Archaros quickly nods but Adeon seems suprised.

-My lord. As you know we are only have three companies and we need to replenish our numbers. Though we dont have any assignments yet i think we will soon be called for war..... İt would be best for us to be at full strength.... So i suggest that we use scout squads from elite units and turn any initiate who manages to survive the process of recruiting and implantation into a full fledged battle-brother. By using experienced brothers as scouts we will have our scout squads more effective and we will lose less initiates to battle since they will be clad in power armour and heavly equipped.

Says Archaron in a soft voice.

-But thats against everything that codex says about induction system of new battle-brothers.

    Adeon objects.

-Though it may be against codex that Archaron suggestion has point. Now lets start the meeting. Arkath?

You say. Chief Techmarine turns to you and nods then opens the holo caster. A map of the sector comes to the screen.

-My lord we have 5 things to deal with.

First is Pyrax. İts efficeny is at minimum due to lack of manufactorums and resources... Also current adeptus mechanicus leader Magos Xarthon is reluctant the take orders from us. And of course there is some intel about a mechanicus inner struggle between Magos Xarthon and Magos Mylitha.....

Second is that sub-sector defense force is really ill-equipped. Discipline is near to non-existent. And they are untrained. They are not ready to stop a gang fight rather than a rebellion or full-scale invasion. Since we rule the sub-sector they serve to us and we should make something about them.

Thirdly We need more Librarians, Apothecaries, Chaplains and Techmarines. We have only three apothecaries, one techmarine, one chaplain and one librarian Valerion, Azakniel, Fenix and myself included.

Our next problem is that we have some reports about some strife between the native tribes of agriworld Terran. We should investigate it.

Lastly as Archaron mentioned before we need to replanish our numbers so we need to start recruiting as soon as possible. We are in need for numbers.

Now how should we deal with these my lord?

Maybe Adeon could be more of an inspirer, or morale booster, than a tactical commander.

He doesn't think of ways to beat the enemy easier, but what he does makes his warriors fight better and harder.

He got his position by stint of his experience and because of the loyalty he inspires in his men.
    >> Anonymous 10/15/11(Sat)21:50 No.16637367
    1. First of all, what reason does he have for being reluctant to listen to us? Is it something small and reasonable, or is it petty, maybe even downright rebellious? If it's the former, then we should stick with Xarthon. Better the devil you know. If it's the latter, then fuck Xarthon, and let's get to talking with this Mylitha lass. If push comes to shove, we could intervene, but it would have to be super damn covert and it might even be best to not even let the very horse we're betting on know.

    2. We have scout sergeants, and we have initiates who need to be trained. We also have a sub-sector of low discipline and poor training. I say we take down two birds with one stone. Send out our scouts and initiates to each world and begin training maneuvers. We will commence a series of wargames across the sub-sector pitting the defense forces against our own recruits. Our recruits will get the chance to practice their skills, and the mortals will learn from our example and their own failure. Use of lethal force is approved.

    3. Not sure what we can do for this, specifically. But I suppose we can give those we have more leeway amongst our recruits, but we need their recruiting to be parallel with the expansion of our Chapter's forces. We only need so many for a small force. Perhaps we can make it so that it's two to three recruits for each auxiliary role per company.
    >> Anonymous 10/15/11(Sat)21:51 No.16637373
    4. Send in a small scout force like those described in Problem #2, but with more stealth and less fanfare. Find out what's going on before making their presence known.

    5. The codex might not be the end-all, be-all of all things war, but it is a damn good counselor to have. While a focus on veteran, experienced scouts (similar in aspect to the Space Wolves I suppose) could be a major asset for us, we should be wary of rushing the process for creating and introducing more battle-brothers. As a Raven Guard successor, we should be especially aware of the problems such haste can cause. While the idea has merit, in this case the Codex provides the more useful advise.

I want to ask the other good players if we want to develop a theme to our chapter?

Such As: space combat, physics, or heavy armor.

I think a good specialty is to focus on snipping and guerilla warfare; the general plan would be to infiltrate enemy lines, fuck up their supply lines and command, then let allied guard or other chapter (or even our own armor division) steamroll the weakened foes.

I like this plan as it's simple to set up, effective against nearly everything (necrons might be trouble), and a great way to collect soft (alliances, debts of honer) power.

PS, This tactic is also flexible enough to synergies well with nearly any other specialty we choose to devolve, keeping us from shooting ourselves in the foot.

That is similar to what we've already been talking about, though adding in additional forces is new. Not sure how often we'd need to do that, though. More than likely it'll be covert operations behind enemy lines with our own forces arrayed to take advantage of it rather than allied guard or another Chapter.

for the expansion of our reclusiam (chaplains) we should find the most arrogant, undevout and downright asshole recruit/brothers and send them on a duo mission (two brothers or scouts) to perform a task and learn about themselves and if they are found worthy (surviving) they'll have learned their faith

I believe snipping and guerilla warfare are rather...unmanly. However, it is an excellent proposition.

My counterproposal would be an emphasis on two things. Guerilla warfare-tactics, as you suggested (including resource gathering [recruiting troops from locals and giving training] and etc.) to the point that deploying a single squad to a relatively weak planet would be sufficient to negate its combat potential. Also, know thine enemy know thineself. Our marines would also known every trick for anti-guerilla warfare, so at some point we could teach our defense forces and they'd be able to effectively destroy any cultist uprisings we might get.

Also though, we're a goddamn space marine chapter and furthermore we're from the Raven Guard. While the guerilla warfare skillset should certainly exist, the emphasis should be upon being able to completely annihilate a foe stealthily and speedily. Lightning nighttime assaults upon unsuspecting foes. Sieges are our antithesis. This sort of emphasis would also allow for our forces to deal with more stuff than usual, as it'd take a matter of hours for a company to deal with a problem and move on.

I included that for two reasons:
    - To improve the survivability of our own marines.
If we have someone else attacking their face, then the enemy is less likely to devote their manpower to take down the disturbances behind his lines.
    - Further a very close relationship with the guard and our PDF, allows us to draw upon greater effective fighting force with out flagrantly breaking codex and drawing the inquisition on us.

    Good point.
I especially like the idea to training the PDF in our combat zones. Thereby creating a pool from which to draw allies for joint campaigns.

I argue that Shock and awe are not the most efficient use for our (likely to be always) limited resources.

In the spirit of compromise I suggest that create a vehicle company (or two or three) designed for sudden assault. As this allows us to do some campaigns on our own and preserves some tactual flexibility for unforeseen circumstances, but leaves our guerilla focus diluted.

I approve Archaron suggestion. Fuck the codex astartes man. Also i suggest something. Taking extra recruiting companies.

Recruiting among the PDF would be great, as you could discipline the army and take great numbers of recruits. But do we have enough geneseed right now for something like that?.

Also, i suggest picking the marines of the elite that don't fit as scouts, and sending them to the forgeworld to train under Corwin, at the same time they improve the industry and put the planet under our control.

    >Kiavahr Croaw (someone else seconded it)
    or

    Or
    Noctus Hidalgo (also been seconded)

Anyways, throwing my support to the actions from >>16637367 though I'm not sure about >Use of lethal force is approved.
I think that particular bit might not be a good idea. We're low enough on numbers as-is.

    Also:
    >>16642047
    >Recruiting among the PDF would be great, as you could discipline the army and take great numbers of recruits.
As great as this would be, this would probably reduce the already-poor performance of the army (taking the best soldiers), and
    >But do we have enough geneseed right now for something like that?
Unfortunately, most likely not, since Raven Guard successors.

And yes, we should send someone to investigate those tribes, maybe something to get some of the battle brothers armoured as scouts to go do to test their capabilities?

Oh, another thing, can we put initiates as tactical marines? IIRC, they won't have the Black Carapace, so can't wear power armour. Bummer.

mentor type groups? akin to mentor chapter or what they did in the ultramarines book with the necrons im guessing.

could have a few marines put in charge of like 50 guardsmen each. or if not marines, then have some scouts act as leaders for them...assuming the scouts have the mental faculties for it already.
    >> Indonesian Gentleman 10/16/11(Sun)09:08 No.16642124
300 marines eh? We need to recruit more worlds. Maybe after we bulk up our forces, we need to go into a small skirmish and make a name for ourselves (in hopes that we get another world under our wing).

You can skip whole serving as scout part for intiates and slap black caraprace as soon as possible then use them as battle brothers and that was Archaron suggesting....

By doing that your initiates will have higher chances surviving while gaining experience and scout squads would be formed from experienced warriors....

    here's an alternative then.

we take the best regiment of pdf with us to a few battles to toughen them and show them what wars like. they can act as ground holders flank protectors or whatnot for us. in return whoever survives to go home will be very valuable teachers/backbone for the less experienced pdf who haven never been off-world.

    You turn to Argath.

-What can you tell me about this Xarthon?

Argath stands silent for a moment.

-He is overzealous and arrogant. He likes to be in charge of the things and he fears the loss of control.... He has been stalling our attempts at establishing supply schedules and preventing us from supllying our chapter effectively.... Though he is experienced i advice that we shouldnt trust him.

-So what can you tell me about this strife between tribes of Tarren....

-We dont know much though they seem to be bothering the planetary governor and also their fights damaging the income which comes from animal herding and farming....... İts not something big at the moment but we should intervene before it gets worse.

    -So any suggestions brothers?

-Well since i am the chief techmarine i volunteer to go to Pyrax and meet with Magos Xarthon and Magos Mylthia and get things right. İ also ask for a squad of terminators to accompany me if you decide to send me in........

    -Anything else?

    Azakniel stands up.

-İ may be usefull at solving the situation at Tarren since i was planning a recruitment sweep for Tarren....

Azakniel nods as Argath signals te holo caster. İt now shows the roosted of your forces.....

-My lord you can deal with any of these matters two personally..... And you i advice you to always assign some token forces to Brother-Chaplain Azakniel as well.....

    What now Chapter Masters?

    Maybe we could do that.

Ah, fuck, I was going to suggest "encouraging" whoever serves as governor for each planet to raise an actual regiment or two for defensive purposes, but between Agri-world, fledgling forge world that will need more workers, and secret world that we don't want on record, that seems like a bad idea.
I guess we should just stick to current pdf force size, expanding as we get spare population, and make sure they are drilled to very high standards, with plenty of experience in wargames and such, before starting them out in actions to increase their actual combat experience, preferably starting with small actions and working up to harder ones as they grow more proficient, in such a way as to minimise casualties.

Hopefully, we can get the forge world up and running reasonably soon, and keep good relations with the mechanicus, giving us good gear for us and the pdf forces, and decent skitarii forces to defend the forgeworld, meaning less of a worry for us. More techmarines wouldn't hurt, either.

Speaking of which, we should get our techmarine to mark out potential marines to go get some techmarine training, and the same for the apothecaries. Getting some closer bonds with the Mechanicus, including the biologis, would be great.

Azakniel to aid/train the PDF along with some of the brothers who show skill in stealth+a couple of terminator bodyguards, as he can't train the PDF alone and he's too valuable to risk alone.

Have them focus first on discipline and then on teaching them the honourable way of 'Asymmetrical Warfare'

Have him keep his eyes out for anyone with potential to maybe be a recruit.

Send Azakniel + Terminators to the mechanicus. They likely won't respect a non-tech marine.

Send Ancharon + some assault marines to deal with the tribes, work out why they are feuding, and if need be, beat some sense into their leaders.

WELP. For the Forge world, we should send Akarth, obviously, and I suggest we go ourself too (be useful to get some hands-on experience with the mechanicus and, quite frankly, if worst comes to worst he's more important to the chapters survival than us, being our only techmarine if I've interpreted things right). Take an honour guard with us to the planet itself, not small exactly but no more than protocol would dictate (I'm not sure how many this would be), but have enough marines standing by on the ship we take (I'd say just a strike cruiser) to come to a total of 50 marines when the honour guard are counted, with a 3:1:1 split of Tactical, Assualt and Devestator marines. Just in case this little kerfuffle is more than we thought, y'know?

For Tarren, we should send Azakniel, with say 2 squads of assualt marines, 2 squads of tacs, a squad of devestators, some guys on bikes (say, 5 of them), and our librarian to screen for potential in the prospective initiates, not to mention possible heresy in the populace. That should be more than enough to deal with anything short of a warp portal and CHAOS!, so we should be fine there. Have him deal with whatever the problem is, then conduct the recruitment sweep.

As for Ancharon, have him draw up a revised roster for the initiate/tactical marine switch, with the assistance of Kaleth who should know who will work well together and what-not, and then work on plans for training the pdf forces.

The Apothecaries need to suggest any brothers they think would be suitable for apothecary training, as do our chaplain and techmarine for their respective disciplines, which they can do on the way to the planets they are being sent to.

Also, get mr slow-but-loyal to have a look-out for anything of note happening in the surrounding regions, and leave him temporarily in command in our absence.

You give out your orders in confident tone. Argath nods as you use the control panel on your seat to assign forces for the missions.

You and Argath take 20 tactical marine, 8 terminator marine and reserve force of 10 devastator and 10 assault marine with you. Also another two terminator who you pick from your personal guard will be accompanying you.

You assign Azakniel another 20 tactical and 10 assault marine plus another couple of honor guard terminators. Also you attach Fenix to his command to help him.

-That will be all brothers. May Emperor watch over us all.

All concul members salute you then start leaving the strategium. Argath goes to docking platform to ready a shadowhawk for you and Azakniel and calls strike cruisers. Azakniel goes to inspect his battle-brothers and Fenix goes with him. Your Captains and Chief Apothecary goes back to their respectfull duties....

You are now alone in the strategium except the 4 honor guard terminators who are standing silent, their signature two handed black power swords in their hands. İt would have been pitch black everywhere if it hadnt been for lightsources you set up around. You then turn your attention to Argath who is waiting for you on the platform. You nod at Agath and walk up to the shadowhawk...

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

As shadowhawk touches the ground you get ready to disembark. At your back Argath and 10 terminators marines (2 veteran) stands ready. Also another shadowhawk will deliver 20 tactical marines after you but you dont think you will need them. As the hatch opens you march out and get the glimpse of Pyrax. İts really nothing impressive. Though you are at the inner circle of the capital city you know that the rest of the city is crumbling....... Living standards are untolarable....... Order is barely sustained by local troops and you know the current leaders are at their own political games rather than trying to improve the situation. What now Chapter Master?

Sweet, it's still going. I'll write up my responses in a moment.

Okay, so as far the Magos situation goes, I want to point out that the fembot was rather respectful. I'm going to assume it wasn't mocking or sarcastic, but she seemed like someone we could get along with.

Xarthon on the other hand, is openly disrespectful, and I say we call attention to that. But, we should still listen and try to talk civilly.

Here's my idea: Should the talks show signs of degenerating, offer to take a short recess while you, I'unno take a transmission or something. Make up an excuse. Find Myth . . . Myst . . . the fembot. Give her a what if scenario where she is in charge, asking her questions about the relations between her and the astartes should she be in charge, that sort of thing. Should that go favorably . . . Offer the job. She must have skitarii loyal to her and her alone. Have her wait for our signal. We will go for the skitarii while she and her forces take out Xarthon. I say it that way because it might be best if it isn't us who lands the killing blow, politically.

You have never been person who showed anger or fury openly. You anger ussualy manifested itself as cold and chilling. And it was a terrfying thing to behold. Cold aner burning in your eyes you look up to Magos.

-Your disobedience and incompetence is why i am here Xarthon. İ tolarated your actions so far. But not anymore. You either obey me or perish.

-YOU DONT COMMAND ME SPACE MARİNE!!!!!

-İ do actually. My authority as Ruler of sub-sector Archais is approved by Emperor and accepted by high lords of terra.

-BLASPHEMEY!!!! İ SERVE NO ONE BUT THE MACHİNE GOD! AND YOUR LİES MEAN NOTHİNG TO ME!!! NOW BEGONE FROM MY SİGHT YOU CHARLATAN!!!

-And that was your last mistake. AS THE RULER OF THİS SUB-SECTOR İ REMOVE YOU FROM YOUR SEAT AS MAGOS PRİMUS AND EXİLE YOU FROM MY SEB-SECTOR!!!

And just like that the chamber room was thrown into disarray. Logia were split into groups between themselves. Some siding with you. Other siding with Xarthon. Accusations flew across the room as you look the Xarthon in the eye.

-YOU DONT HAVE AUTHORİTY OVER ME SPACE MARİNE!!! İ ONLY TAKE ORDERS FROM ADEPTUS MECHANİCUS. İ.......

Then his eyes suddenly trail off to the Magos Mylthia who has been standing at your back.

-İ see now. That bitch convinced you, didnt she? What did she offer you? Maybe the secrets of our order... or maybe...

-Choose your next words wisely Magos for my patience is at its limit....

We won't lay a hand on him unless he strikes first. Keep our temper in control and let his overemotional display destroy him without our help.

İ thought maybe Xarthon is bit too khornate for a Magos but meeeh......

BTW i need to remind you....
Unless you do some serious anti-emperor shit your word is law in the sub-sector archais.

    Seconding this.

We give him the opportunity to simply go into exile. But let it be known that there is no way out of that exile. He can accept it, or he can fight it. If he chooses to fight it, then he'll let his true colors show.

I also want to say that, once this is all over, let the fembot know that such is the fate of all who would oppose us. Let's not outright threaten her to stay loyal, but let her know that if she chooses the same path, the same consequences will apply.

Thus i shall rename Magos Mylthia as FEMBOT!!!

Seriously since i dont have my tablet now can we have some drawfag come here and help us?

I wish I could. I would love if I could. I'm not even much of a writefag, since that Scout Varen piece was the first I ever did for /tg/.

And keep using fembot's real name. Maybe it'll finally get through my skull and I'll remember it.

'You will hardly help your position by impugning a fellow servant of the Emperor. Nor will you gain credit by denying that your incompetence has hampered our efforts to excel in His service.

'I am not here to participate in any struggle, but to pass judgement by virtue of my authority in this sub-sector. You will stand down and obey my orders, or force me to reveal what stands behind that authority. Have I made myself clear?'

Quick question, what timezone are you in?

If you want to call it quits for today, go on ahead. Myself, I'm going to be getting something to eat now anyways, but I intended to come back. Probably keep the thread up and refresh it every now and then. If someone else posts we can discuss plans of action until you get back
    >> Anonymous 10/16/11(Sun)15:22 No.16645102

Also, may I ask - what is the position of our forces right now? Just so we can give orders to make sure that if push comes to shove, we'll do what we do best.
    >> The Awesome Emprah 10/16/11(Sun)15:36 No.16645222

İ am living in turkey (dont which timezone that equals) but time on the posts suit me just one. And the reason i want to call quits for the day is lack of interest.

Well our 10 man termimator squad (2 veteran termi) is lined behind us and of course fembots own skitaari is close by. Also we can call upon tactical squads but assault and devas squads which we keep in reserve would not arrive in time if push comes to shove.
    >> The Awesome Emprah 10/16/11(Sun)16:36 No.16645707
Well guess its over for today.... Okay TG may work is done here for now. See you tomorrow at 14:00 by 4chan time.
    >> Anonymous 10/16/11(Sun)17:03 No.16645939
It might be too late for this since we've already progressed, but would you mind if we positioned our forces?

My thinking is that when we return from our recess we only bring a single 5 man squad of Terminators, tasked as our bodyguards.

The others we position outside waiting for a signal like the fembot's forces, only with the orders to teleport in. If a battle breaks out, I want them to be focusing on me and my bodyguard so that when the other half appears out of nowhere behind them it takes them by surprise.

Chapter Master and bodyguards is the anvil that the newly teleported terminators hammer the enemy onto.
