Your people treked many, many months to the South-east of your homeland, to escape slavery and oppression perpetrated against them. You are hardy bunch, intelligent and inventive, though not the strongest of races, and not gifted at all in the ways of the arcane.

Your village consist of a dozen or so caves in the side of a massive mountain, which itself is one of the smaller mountains in the mountain range. Snow falls day and night but never gets too thick, it snows purely because of the altitude.

Your government is tribal. You have a chief, and a circle of tribal councilors. Your chief is ready to pass his first judgement. What will it be?

    A. Scavenge for food.
    B. Try to improve caves.
    C. Try to improve weapons.
    D. Research new technology.
    E. Practice Magic.

A and B, together if possible. I'd like us to rely as little as possible on the outer world. Finding a way to grow food in the caves would benefit us greatly. If two options are not doable at once, food must come first.

If no, Scavenge for food. Survival comes first.

Your great chieftain has deemed food to be the top priority. Your people begin scavenging the mountains for anything edible.

Some of the top hunters bring back four garrish looking animals. They're easily as big as a man with huge horns protruding from their heads. Your people have never seen anything like them, and think them forces of evil. They're tasty though.

Some of your women return with several bushels of barries. They're terrible bitter, but strangely filling. Apparently there is a large outcrop of the bushes near the village on an outcrop.

    What is your next choice?

Like, hunting tools or crafting tools?
    >> King Alfonso !!J5X1luOwrrm 10/22/11(Sat)17:18 No.16707301
Your chief orders some of the men to try and dig further into the mountains.

At first progress is good. Using flat rocks, they dig past the soft soil layer and create a rudimentary cave system connecting the dozen caves together. It is not very long before they hit hard stone and they can go no further though. They would need some better tools to progress.

Because of now having much more room and privacy, population grows faster.

What is your Chieftain's next choice?

    *Special Event*
A delegation of extremely short creatures approach your tribe. There are ten of them, wielding pickaxes. They look like humans except short, hairy, and with elongated ears. They are offering you technology in exchange for becoming their semi-autonomous servants.
    A1. Try and kill them.
    B1. Accept their offer.
    C1. Politely decline.

Your chieftain accepts the deal and invites them to feast in the largest of your caves. Upon seeing your cave system they laugh whole heartedly. They explain they call themselves Dwarves and that they are a race that lives to the
South, they even provide a map showing us the entirety of the mountains with their settlements marked. When they leave, the Dwarves take twenty of your women with them.

After they leave, your chieftain and the circle agree it would be best to be ready to betray them when the time comes. The Dwarves provide you with thirty pickaxes, and explain what they're used for. (Mining discovered).

Your chief orders the caves to be expanded, with the new techniques of mining. Many months pass of your men laboriously expanding your cave systems. They dig deep into the mountain, creating side rooms and storage areas, even a dormitory. It is a vast improvement over your previous cave system. During the excavations, your people found a vein of shiny, grey, rock. They didn't know what to do with it, but it wasn't as brittle as the rock around it. They stored it in large baskets in the storage area. (Iron vein discovered).

The Dwarves returned shortly before the excavations ended and saw that your people had discovered a rich Iron vein. They had no use for such primitive metals as Iron, but they did show us how to make a furnace and how to smelt the Iron. (Smelting discovered). The Dwarves also returned our women. They were beaten, bruised, and broken. Not to mention, very pregnant. Their tongues had been cut out and their teeth removed. It also seems they're arms were just now healing from being broken. The Dwarves took twenty more women, threatening any who tried to stop them.

    What is your next choice?

Or, we bide our time, grit our teeth and steel our souls with thoughts of bloody vengeance. When the time comes, their world shall come tumbling down in a hail of fire and ruin. They will cry blood and weep through shattered lips for mercy as we grind their bones into fine dust before pitching them headlong into whatever Hell their diseased minds have fashioned for themselves.

    C and B1

Our Chief, infuriated but composed, orders our people to start practicing the smelting techniques the dwarves taught us. We quickly discover that blackening the berry bushes and then using them in the smelting process creates a stronger metal. (High-Carbon Iron discovered). Our people figure out easily how to smelt pickaxes and create molds to do it quicker, we also discover that the berry bushes can be cured and made sturdy, yet flexible. An Iron tipped stick can be fired from it once it is strung with fur from the great horned beast. (Bows discovered.)

While our people experimented with the various metals, a delegation was sent to the dwarf Capital. It didn't look like much from the oustide, but inside it was wonder. The caverns were huge and ornately decorated. They had many different types of metal. They're king sat on a large throne, made of some yellow metal, with our women lined up next to him in chains, looking down at their feet. We asked him for more tech, stating we didn't know they would be taking our women. They agree and teach us how to smelt various defensive objects (gates, doors, and barricades discovered), and the best way to structure a cave system for maximum efficiency.

    What is your next choice?

The Half-Dwarven children are born. They are slightly taller than Dwarves, but shorter than humans, and less intelligent than both. It seems the Human and Dwarven races are not a good mix, as the children are deformed and mutated, with haunched backs and harlips common amongst them. There is no news on the women that were taken the last time the Dwarves visited. They have not been returned.

We have run out of room on our plateau for the berry bushes, which have prospered under our cultivation. In fact this year the bushes grew bigger and produced more than the last harvest. However, when planted in caves they quickly wither and die, and our population is growing quickly. The bushes and wild Hornbeast meat will only last so long.

Our people begin to practice magic. They are, at first, terribly at it. In fact many spells fail or have the opposite of the desired effect. However, after several months our people can do very basic healing magic. It doesn't go much farther than healing a shallow cut or a bruise though.

Also if the half dwarves are stupid, it could possibly mean they're suggestible/controllable. We could raise them harshly and train them as bezerkers for our eventual betrayal, where they would make ironic and devastating shock troops (hypothetically).

Also, if they ask for any more of our women, could we instead dress the settlement's homosexuals as traps and convince the dwarves to take these instead? This way our population doesn't suffer.

Because the Dwarves have a massive lead on us technologically but have yet to demonstrate any forms of magic. Humans are bad at magic, but if I've understood this correctly, not as bad as dwarves. So if we carry on researching magic we can level the playing feild earlier. Although it certainly wouldn't hurt to find out just how much the dwarves know of magic.

    >> King Alfonso !!J5X1luOwrrm 10/22/11(Sat)18:32 No.16708104
Because of how quickly we are growing, it is decided that we need a new settlement to prevent overcrowding. A new cave system is excavated to the south and 150 humans are sent to the south. Our Chief becomes King, while a chief is instated in the other cave system that answers to the King. It was also decided by some community minded individuals to institute some of the plans the Dwarves had given us for our cave system, innovating our caves and starting from scratch at the other. Fifty people from each settlement volunteer and become the Milita, residing in the newly constructed barracks.

We send a delegation to the Dwarven capital again, to ask for more technical advances. We witness their military drills. In the capital, their militia is probably around two hundred strong. They have what are called 'swords' constructed of some kind of white metal. They also have heavy looking armor constructed of the same metal. They explain the metal is found deep, deep underground. They also have large thins called axes. We catch the King of the Dwarves, it appears, just as he is finished beating one of our women around. When we walk in she is being dragged away, covered in various fluids. The King shows us the kinds of crops that grow underground and gives us a large supply of something called Plumb Mushrooms, which we plant in our caves in large plots. (underground farming discovered.)

We decide to expand further, creating a settlement on the highest peak we can find, as close to the edge of the mountain range as possible. We build it at the peak of this mountain, and the citizens sent there report seeing several of what looked like villages down in the desert that lie just on the edge of the mountain. They can't make out any figures clearly, but they're clearly inhabited. (Naga civilization discovered)

We also start quietly raiding the dwarves. We take out two of their smaller settlements that lie on the surface. They are wiped out without much resistance, they were apparently almost exclusively dedicated to smelting and mining. There were no survivors and we took a good supply of the white metal, as well as schematics for what looked like a giant deformed humanoid made of metal or maybe rock. We also take their tech that was there. (Coal discovered, Meteorite metal discovered, swords discovered, Metal Golems discovered [Don't have the right materials though]. Advanced underground mining discovered.) We sent 80 humans to raid, 30 came back.
