    412 KB Fairy Warband Quest 8 - Entire Quest Recap Narrator !!0z97bVlxXCQ 11/19/11(Sat)22:31 No.16967193
You are Trixie Buttercup, fairy warband leader. Fairies are made of magic and immune to harm from all sources but magic and magnets. Upon their deaths, fairies burst into sparkles that other fairies can use to increase their own power.

Your warband has evicted an opposing group from their tree, which generates fairies. After moving in, you researched putting fairy sparkles into beetles, a queen bee, and a drone (rendering them magical and obedient, and causing minor physical changes). You also began to dig straight down, after suspecting that the source of the tree's magic was underground. Aside from certain setbacks (a giant, murderous worm being the primary one) the magic hole has led to some important resources (a medium sized magic mushroom farm and a great deal of magic giant worm leather).

Your best guess as to the actual source of magic is a shiny, brittle rock that your diggers recently uncovered. It is smooth, and irregularly shaped, but the bit you have managed to uncover suggests that it is at least three feet across. You have several samples of the shiny thing, one of which you have sparkled, rendering it less brittle and making it hum constantly.

You are at the tree and everything is currently going as well as it ever is.

Does the humming rock do anything when exposed to the non humming magic rock?

The OP is very nearly an exact repost of last week. As far as I'm concerned, last week (or Sunday/Thread 8, rather) didn't happen at all thanks to ddos based unplayability, so we're back here. Luckily not much happened. If I make a continuity error point it out, though.

As usual, chat is #fairyquest in irc.thisisnotatrueending.com. Wiki page is http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Fairy_Warband_Quest.

The wiki page really needs an index of terminology. If you're reading through and something doesn't make sense ("What the fuck are girlz") just ask.

Vote On These Things (and any other things you care about)
    Required for update:
You have one fairy pod, containing four new fairies, to deal with.

    Optional:
Currently you have two girlz on sentry duty in the tree, two more important fairies and four girlz guarding the ground floor entrance, and everyone else on standby, with the exception of your daily patrol with Wibble. This is a relaxed work schedule, and you can easily assign some fairies additional duties without conflicting with anyone's attention span. You can redistribute fairies or leave them alone.

Voting on other things is fine.

    >>16967295
Here. Don't think anything has changed. Caltrops are allowed, but when you try to make more than one at a time they melt or evaporate.

    >One of the girlz makes a funny noise when held upside down.
    >Flower hat.
    >Mushroom drum.
    >Two girlz can launch a third a short distance by standing her on a slack silk thread and pulling it tight suddenly.
    >Decorated stick.

The bees have built themselves a nice little house. They acknowledge your presence when you check on them. They have slightly over one hexagon of honey, and a second hexagon that is sealed off.

I suppose the tunnels can no longer be expanded?

Well if there's no tunneling to do then we should be training our fairies. How to fight with daggers, how to thrust a spear, etc. For when we upgrade to magical weaponry

    Also, bee flights?

    >flower hat
    >mushroom drum
    >decorated stick

this was the best contest ever. I vote flower hat for winner, how about you guys?

And, on more pressing issues, How fast can a fairy fall from a tree? it takes one turn?

If we ever find a route opposing fairies commonly take, we should station ambushers in the trees, and use a girl as bait.

but, since we have no idea where anyone is except some vague factions to the north two of three are hostile to us, we can't really do much military shit now.

And it would be unprudent to head to freeport before we have some excess bee-goods to sell with our wormshit. So, I guess we have to wait and scout until those things are done, and we have enough sparkles to pay for a small caravan.

Unless you guys don't want to go to the tradetown.

The slingshot only launches the fairy four inches at most, but you might be able to scale it up. The fairy who is going to get credit steps forward to identify herself, to the resigned frustration of the other two. You make a note of her for the next time you have a free sparkle.

Two girlz interrupt the ceremony. They were digging around the shiny thing when they were attacked by a "blob of blobs." It chased them down, but they managed, together, to drive it off. One fairy describes "popping" one of the blobs.

They figured that you might want to know.

You put the other fairies on yellow alert and lead Bloomstar, Wibble, Moonbubble, and a squad of the braver girlz head into the magic hole. You and the girlz have two knives, and your lieutenants have halberds.

You travel the length of both tunnels, twice, but you don't see a single blob, much less a group of them. On the last pass, Moonbubble claims that the crack in the shiny thing looks slightly bigger.

A few hours later, you hear a shout from below. You arrive moments later, fearing trouble.

You find two girlz fleeing from several of the blob blobs that the first pair described. Moonbubble is holding the line against the larger group. There are a few blobs that are flittering about on their own. They seem to be willing to join groups, and occasionally a blob will leave it's group to wander. On average, however, they are very focused on attacking Moonbubble and the girlz.

I wonder what happens if you swallow one whole?

Also, what do you guys think? Should we just write off the magic source? Maybe the blobs are like bees, defending their hive.
Or maybe they're sponges that soak up magic around the tree and bring it back.

What happens if a blob is exposed to water?
    >> Narrator !!0z97bVlxXCQ 11/20/11(Sun)02:36 No.16968672
Not ignoring the other proposals, I'm just doing all of the information requesty ones first while you discuss and form a consensus.

    >>16968664
You hold a blob in a dewdrop. It continues to shake back and forth weakly in your hand, like it was before. When you take it out, the water drains off of it quickly.

She will be missed. Perhaps we can make a small marker composed of similar sticks to in the hive, to mark the gurlz passing?
Everyone can make their own version.

What does bloomstar think of this? Also, we should put bags over all the cracks, and replace them when they get full. Start harvesting these things.

No! For a smart fairy you sure can be stupid sometimes. I mean the bloby thing itself? What do you think it is? Is it magic? What's it made of? It's not made of slimy stuff or else it would melt in water.

    "Um, it's probably magic."

    Your nose confirms.

"And it isn't a plant or an animal or a rock or dirt or a mushroom or water. Maybe it isn't made out of anything? They go away when they die."

"It's gotta be made from something. It can't be made of nuthing! Or else we wouldn't be able to hold it." The boss fairy grits her teeth.

"We need...more...stuff." She says, after a moments of deliberation, grasping for the right words in her limited vocabulary. "We need more stuff to...talks about..stuff."

She hands the squirming globe to Bloomstar. "Can it feel hurts? Is it alive? If I poke it with a really thin shard, will other stuff leak out? I wants you to think about it and do...magicy stuff. Cause you're good at magicy stuff."

"I might need more than one if I'm going to test how to break them." in response to >>16968742, and to >>16968741, The blob is the right size, but it bounces off of your skin, and after a few tries you decide not to risk popping the thing.

You force a blob into your mouth with some difficulty. It is uncooperative. Using both hands, you shove it down your throat and eventually swallow.

It rams the inside of your stomach several times before you feel it go away. For the first time in your life you experience the word "sick."

Bloomstar walks off with the rest.

Is there anything you want to do while she works? There's the latest pod to deal with, if nothing else.

On hearing your standard proposal (All of you but one can join, and that one dies), two of the new hatchlings start to fight. When one of the fighters starts to win, the other two turn on her.

    Girlzcount: 19

Bloomstar returns, looking confused. "I think these things are broken. I took out two, stuck one on the sparkled rock and it died. The other one didn't try to get away when I brought it down on the sparkle rock. Then I let it go, and it just fell on the ground and started to spin."

"I can't chop small pieces off either. They're bouncy."

"Why does magic stuff do useless things?" Trixie asks with a hint of frustration. "Stupid rock hums, stupid blob spins. Maybe next magic thing will be...stupid...cause it also useless!" She scuffs the ground with her foot.

Your nose seems to be telling you that enough blobs could be a sparkle in some way or another.

Bloomstar thinks, hard. She dumps the contents of the bag, which wobble around aimlessly. Picking up the two closest, she mashes them together, a look of concentration on her face.

Two of the blobs on the ground crash into each other, and begin to stick together. A third one joins soon after, and they begin to unsteadily travel in a single direction. Bloomstar kicks one, and the other two fall away from each other.

Bloomstar shrugs. "Maybe we can just hit people WITH them?"

Speaking of which, you have a sparkle to do something with. Also, continuity edit, the prize of the contest was the worm hat and fun shroom access, not a sparkle.

    Hehe.

Well, lets have our mages try and pool resources. Do something creative with the sparkle. Not just an axe or a spear or anything, but maybe a magical device. Like, maybe a wheel that constantly spins

After an hour, Bloomstar comes out of her shop carrying a wooden disc.

"I made a wheel! And it works! At making me sticky and it doesn't spin." She taps you on the arm to demonstrate, and only manages to yank her hand away after a few tries. The sudden movement makes her drop the wheel. You'd think the stickiness would prevent that.

I have to be up early tomorrow, so I'm going to semi-wrap things up. I assume someone wants some kind of new magic hole policy, so here's your chance to vote on that (and anything else you think is important).

From chat: "well, I WANT to suggest we dam up or put a harvester on the crack"

I will go with this if nobody says no.

Do that, but also put some sentries on the tunnel entrance and set up some sticks and leaves so that they can block it off easy if there are too many blobs.
The sentries are to be on the safe said of the barricade. 3 sentries, 2 to hold it and 1 to run and get help if everything goes horribly wrong.
If the 2 can't hold it, they can run too. It is perfectly fine for them to scream for help.
