Well then. The previous thread is autosaging. But the submissions keep on coming!

    Things we need:

    1) Some new art to fill in areas where the images in V2 served are poor placeholders

    2) Some fresh fluff pieces to add into the PDF and help reinforce both the style of the game and the richness of the setting [we have a lot of this already, now! Good job team!]

    3) GM Advice. As anyone who has played it can tell you, AdEva is a pretty GM-intensive game. Any help we can give them, either in terms of inspiration or lessons we have learned together the hard way, would be a great benefit.

See the previous thread for more details. Or just ask!

Some GM Advice: Talk to your players, before the game, about what sorts of mythology interest them. Babylonian, Scientological, Norse, Vietnamese, whatever. If there's a clear winner, include it as the main mythological point for your game. And don't be afraid to referance other mythologies! NGE, and by extension AdEva, thrive off of barely-understood mythological symbology.

For that matter, feel free to do the unthinkable and use no mythology at all. The Angels are basically just alien invaders from places where the universe is different, right down to the physical constants. And now that the stars are right, they've come to merge with their parent in the Angelic equivalent of a salmon returning to a stream to spawn.

GM Advice: Neon Genesis Evangelion is a serious anime.

Adeptus Evangelion does not have to be a serious game.

I know at least one guy on /tg/ ran a game he called Nascar Genesis Evangelion, and apparently it was amazing.

More GM Advice: Angels fights should be hard. Don't pull punches. Alot of GMs are adverse to player death. Don't be here.

More GM Advice: If it's broke, fix it. Not every rule or bit of fluff is perfect for every group! Say you have a character who wants to play a berserker, but fluffs it as his character flying into a wild, berserking rage and cowing his Evangelion into coming along for the ride. Berserker, in the normal fluff, happens when the pilot is unable to command the Evangelion or other things, and is the Eva going animalistic. But there's no harm in allowing the player to fluff his berserking like that.

When in doubt, custom angels. Failing that, custom angels made with the help of the players. See what kind of fights they want, then build Angels that both play to and change the rules of those encounters. They want a run-around battle? Go with a quick Angel or a towering fortress that forces the players to move around. Artillery battle? Give them a T-RIDEN-T macro-kill team or have a berzerk-melee Angel give them something to chew on. Play to your player's interests and they will do their share in making battles enjoyable.

Adverse weather and wasteland enviornments (Greenland, Major Desert, bottom of the ocean) are great for cutting off the need to describe things in detail, or to get players thinking tactically.

If players posit a theroy about the setting in charicter, consider implamenting it with a twist. (Yes and...) Players will speculate about things that intrest them.

Some players, and some GM's don't care for or enjoy that. Knowing what level of detail people want is a learning experience. I will admit that a flat plain with no cover is boring, but sometimes it either makes sense (NERV Groom Lake) is imposed, or makes for a change of scenery. Urban environments that are more then chest high boxes that you get in trouble for stepping on are hard to find for Eva's I admit. I simply provided it as advise for those who wanted it.

    >3) GM Advice Consistent tone helps players know what kind of plans to make. Gritty leads to plans like luring the Angel onto a dam because it will fall into it and be mired briefly More loose tone can lead to an armaments building being used as an improvised shield or the like. Any tone works, so long as its consistent.

I feel like the OD kind of got nerfed.

A military OD can't really have an army...or do much with CFs in general. They"ll just die fast and not do too much. Plus they have to limit themselves to spending actions when comming a CF to do anything. ODs need to be able to do more other than just commanding CFs, too. Like using INT, PER and war/tactic skills in combat.

Game seems to favor melee down to having melee being cheaper to research.

GM Advice: If every Angel fight inevitably turns into an all-out brawl in the city of your choice, try mixing it up some! Use an angel that's hard to just fight--maybe an infiltrator or similiar.

GM Advice: Roll up character sheets for your bridge bunnies or other important NPCs. YOu never know when you'll get into a situation where you'll need to hadn those out to players.

GM Advice; Rulings first, rules later. If there's a rule dispute, rule on it then, then look it up afterwards. If the book disagrees, talk with your players about which ruling they'd prefer.

GM ADvice: Unless it suits your plot better, always try to have at least one session of on-foot goings-on between Giant Angel Fights. It helps break the tension... or build it, if you don't tell yoru players when the next Angel is going to attack.

GM Advice: Do not be afraid to design Angels that break rules of the game. In fact, you can make an Angel who's sole mechanic is breaking every rule of the game.

OD/GM Advice: Whichever of you designs the Base of Operations, spread out launch ports and umbilical ports as they both give a distance of cable. Try your best to leave no area in your base of operations out of range of power.

GM Advice: Angels are generally seen as being extremely powerful, but completely "derp". An Angel that has a tactical mind is generally expected to completely destroy an Eva team. Personally, when I have an Angel attack, I give it a small, simple plan of attack and do not have it deviate from its plan, unless it decides to flee. Generally I the plans are either "Smash open the geofront." or "Kill all the EVAs." but the Angels come up with different ways to do this.

GM Advice: If an Angel ever gets locked down by a certain strategy (Grapple spam, for example) have the next couple Angels (if not all Angels afterward) completely immune to the strategy.

Due to the lack of a cap on weapon upgrades, and with the right research bonuses, it's theoretically possible to get 40,960 shots with a maser weapon with 1000xp spent on it.

GM Advice: If playing with AdEva or NGE-savvy players, don't be afraid to get...creative with your Angels. I had one GM who used a memetic virus as one of his Angels, and I myself deployed an endless Matryoshka Angel. Sometimes the Angels don't even need to be combat monsters- a simple virus or, more rarely, a Kaworu-style Messiah with their own P-Scale Cult, can be just as fuh and a refreshing change of pace.

Heh, our GM just stopped calculating Collateral Damage, since the players were raping the angels due to a combination of mismatched power levels and player insanity.

Hell, Ramiel tried to retreat, but we chased it using a series of floats, and the berserker (Who didn't have any real AT ability) being launched towards it in the air, giving no fucks about falling damage.

On the bright side, although we weren't getting any more Research points, with tech being given out via PLOT from then on, one of our PC's blowing up Boston with a ill-thought-out opening of a Dirac Cache with one of those space-bomber angel's bombs didn't cause too much issue.

My character in an Ad Eva game is an AT Tactician, and among other things a bit of a glory seeker (not enough that it's his flaw, but close to.) Of course, in character creation, I got his SR up to the mid 70s, so he's all kinds of in tune with the world. His Eva randomly got the Shoulder Mounted Markerlight Array.

First angel, nobody knows to raise their AT fields immediately. My guy is the first up, so Sachiel hits him with a Rising Cross, moderate damage, SR fluctuation, increase, damn near maximum. When Marshal Samson first raises his AT field, it's actually stronger than the Angel's.

The Berserker rushes in, giving not a fuck, his SR is in the 30s, He doesn't even know Neutralize... And hits Sachiel's field like a cat hitting a glass door.

My turn, guy rushes in, completely Neutralizes the field, shouts "Let's see what this shoulder cannon can do!" No damage, marks the Core.

    "The fuck is this!?"

That's when the Skirmisher and a half dozen VTOLS lit the core up in a glorious combined-arms display of fury. Killed the bastard inside out and diagonally.

Angel 1: Satchiel: Lasted less than one full round of combat. The Pointman didn't even get a shot off before it was dead.

Our GM is promising something more challenging next time... How fucked are we?

So I've got this one player who always wants to play Ritusko style "Head of R&D" or "Chief of Project E" characters. I usually get around that by taking the OD career, stripping out most of the command skills and talents, and putting in some Lore skills, some SCIENCE Talents, and a particularly notable "Mcguyver" Talent, which she's used to kill at least a half dozen angelspawn in the past. Generally dicks around with the MAGI and comes up with wacky plans with the OD during battle. Is 3.0 going to have a official career to support this kind of stuff?

I've done this. Had a dozen of the Cherubim (Basically a 9 foot tall evangelion the Scientist character brewed up for the hell of it, intended to provide support against Angelspawn, since they're small enough to use human scale weapons, but still have AT fields, if weak ones) break containment when the pilots were in the Training bodies. So I hand out character sheets to everyone but the RD and the Scientist, and say "ohh by the way, you guys are now the Bridge Bunnies and the Commander. Have fun stopping the eldritch horrors from escaping onto the streets." Resulted in a couple of fun sessions, with some highlights like the Commander player beating the shit out of the last Cherubim with the butt of his assault rifle.

I have had a marvelous thought!

Evangelion Unit 07 is the only unit in the history of the Eva Program to have more than five pilots. Every pilot who has tested positive with 07 eventually falls into a catatonic stupor within the plug, usually within a few months of thier first synch connection. They register as dreaming to any machine that can read brainwaves, but are otherwise unresponsive. Most do not register pain at all.

After some time it's discovered that Unit 07 actually erodes the Pilot's mind on contact, and continued exposure through synch tests only worsens the process until eventually they're effectively braindead.

The Unit is not decomissioned, because of the threat of the Angels, and is otherwise functional and useful. It just ... goes through Pilots quickly.

    It's eventually dubbed The Lotus.

Subject Lambda has scored highly with all EVA units. But cannot pass as a human. Cannot speak properly, lacks emotions to pass as a normal English citizen. All mental testing show he is capable of use of AT-field outside of the EVA units but he is unable to follow real world orders.
Should socialize him and test later. Until then Prep Other children.

    Update:

SUbject Lambda has proven us wrong once he was introduced to the trio of neospartans that are the First, Second and Third children. He now is reacting normally to orders. Maybe the crossing of EVA and human is possible. only down side so far is his Hair. Genetics seem to have him grow it out fast. Leaving him looking older than he is...

Tragedy has befallen us. The children are dead. Subject Lambda is in a berserk's rage out on the field. Some one has sent Mass produced EVA to Wipe out Our facility.

The problem with Pilots of Steel is that it is, simply put, gross as hell.

There is no cleaner way to handle them in 2.5 than the career cannibalization that we tried in Version 2. Which was less than successful.

Worse yet, recent changes made to the way AT Deflection works means we have a major quandary on our hands:

Under Version 2's percentile deflection, an Evangelion's AT Field always had a chance of failing (unless their SR was so high they were taking Ego Damage every round, a problem that solves itself). Even a Synch Ratio 90 Eva still had a 10% chance of an attack getting through. Not good odds, but at least *possible*.

Under the new Breach based Deflection system, there are no rolls. There is the Breach of your attack, and the strength of their Field. It either can be done, or it cannot. As Tridents lack AT Fields, they are missing a major Breach Bonus, and have no means of neutralizing their opponent. In order to make them at all viable, they would need to receive some kind of special Anti-AT weaponry with a very high Breach Bonus to overcome their lack of an AT Field. Even the sort of bonus which would make them viable against a standard Eva would be an incredibly effective anti-angel weapon, as far as weapons go. And they would have to start with this magical advanced technology while everyone else is still using pallet guns.

In other words, there is no way to make Pilots of Steel work in 2.5 without being one of the following:

    1) totally useless

    2) Too damn good

And either way, it will be a gross hackjob to even try.

That is why Pilots of Steel are not planned for 2.5. V3 is a whole nother ball game, though.

I think she said she got the idea from a fanfic somewhere. Her idea was to create a support unit that could augment the Evas, since I'd just thrown a Angelspawn Angel at the group. And they certainly had enough scientific gear kicking around Terminal Dogma. She did eventually order the Technical division to weld human sized handgrips on the EVA's armor plating at the suggestion of one of the Pilot characters so the Cherubim could ride the Eva's into combat.

Well, his role in the campaign was as the NPC in charge of the static defense phase, as the tanks, VTOL's et al were British Armed Forces, rather than NERV. So he did say a lot of things like that. Even if Challenger II's vs Angels wasn't a fair fight by any stretch of the imagination...

    ">Memo to: Maintenance Staff

    >In face of growing demand from the Eva pilots and members of the maintenance division, I have relented on my previous decision to ban kill markings on the Evangelion Units in order to promote morale amongst both the Pilots and the technicians.

    >However, I will NOT allow further application of markings depicting the amount of collateral damage caused by action against the Angels. We have enough of a public relations nightmare already without having to deal with the media fallout of seeing 6 skyscrapes, dozens of smaller buildings, hundreds of vehicles both military and civilian and by my count 8724 bicycles stenciled on the side of Evangelion Unit 02.

    >Said offending stencils are to be removed immediately and the cost of the paint used to apply them will be docked from the salaries of the maintainance division. Aside from the aforementioned issue with our desire to project a competent, professional image, it is an extreme waste of time and resources. Any further violations will result in the restoration of my previous order prohibiting kill markings.

ADDENDUM: When applying kill markings, technicians are reminded to use the approved marking depicting a simple winged stick-figure, not invent their own, creative as they may be. This is especially concerning the individual who painted Unit 03's kill markings. You are not a 10th century monk, whoever you are and we are not paying you to create illuminated manuscript.

okay, here are my angel ideas, tell how dumb they are:

Basic: These angels are on par with the first two from the series. Nothing complicated, just big monsters

'Luscious Lashes' Core surrounded by a ring which has two foil "arms" not unlike Zeruel's. Uses foil arms to grab and restrain EVA's limbs before launching a psychological encroachment attack.

'Big bird' Appears as a massive hawk with a fanged skull, skeletal wings and an extra set of talons. Flyby attacks EVAs, attempts to pick them up. Wings can be destroyed and/or used as a destructible weapon.
    >> Anonymous 12/13/11(Tue)15:35 No.17203989
    >>17203982
    cont.

Advanced: These angels aren't impossible to deal with, but have a gimmick which needs to be identified and addressed for them to be dealt with properly

'Boo-hoo Ninja' Appears as a massive humanoid with chalky skin wreathed in shadows and a blade in place of his right arm. His face is obscured by a mask with rivers of blood pouring from his eyes. Blind, but can 'see' AT fields. Teleports to powerful AT fields, attacks with arm blade.

'Conan's Leiliel' Illusiary core projected by ten alternating black and white mirrors. Looking at black mirrors causes a mirror-EVA to attack the EVA. Looking at white mirrors causes an encroachment attack. Each mirror must be destroyed to destroy the core.

'A.T.ronach' Initially appears as a core surrounded by a vaguely human shaped visual distortion not unlike a mirrage. Very powerful AT field, however its strength is inversely proportional to its size. Uses the enviornment to constitue its body (absorbs buildings/landscape/water/etc. to form itself).

'Iron filings' Appears as a vaguely humanoid creature comprised of interlocking metal fragments simmilar to the seventh angel in Rebuild. Absorbs heat, electricity and energy, increasing the power of its AT field and its ability to manipulate the interlocking metal fragments constituting its body.

    >>17203989
    cont.

Highly Unfortunate: These angels severly alter the nature of combat and can potentially devestate the campaign.

'Angie' Appears as a ring of light surrounding a rod of light. Hacks various systems from orbit (orbit too difficult? flying instead?), uses defense systems to attack EVAs.

'Girrugamuk' A giant steaming pile of grey-green ooze. Does not attack EVAs directly, rather weakens their armor and manipulates them into attacking each other. Once an EVA sustains a wound, it encroaches upon that EVA similarly to Bardiel.

'Sauce boss' Appears as a core the size of a softball which is perpetually leaking blood. Those that have direct contact with the blood mutate into angelspawn, who can further infect others as 'normal' zombies.

'Monty' Initially appears as a giant snake with a bone stinger on its tail. Will attempt to impale and/or constrict an EVA before swalling them into a Dirac sea within its body (where its core is located). Once an EVA (or EVAs) is swallowed, the angel gains access to all their powers, abilities, memories and limbs.

"I've seen children go to war against monsters the size of sky scrapers; riding in the skulls of Mad Gods. I've been one of those children.
I've seen men face off against countless angelspawn, guarding convoys of refugees; and saw a man bludgeon an abomination to death with the butt of his rifle, while his other arm lay meters away; so his men had time to retreat.
I've seen entire cities disintergrated, as the civillians within the underground bunkers unanimously decided that they would go out in a way that would slow down the monster abouve them, even if just for a few minutes.
I've seen a boy reform, after his entire body collapsed into a puddle; through sheer force of willpower.
I've seen a woman we grew just for the purpose of ending this war, this world owed us nothing and had been treated like a tool charge to her death, hours after finding out there was more to life than the Evangelion, just so the man she loved wouldn't die, and then die with a smile on her face.

I've seen my friend, who was raised to war, cry and weep; as she held her first born in her hands; then climb in her evangelion and reach Synch Ratings and Ego rating unknown to science until that point. Then never pilot again, because she didn't want to die before her child grew up.
I've seen countless marks of the determination of humanity; lived through the end of the world. Twice; and once faced an angel who asked me the question Why we persist so against the inevitable.
To which I answered 'Because I am human; and because we are NERV; and NERV protects mankind from monsters like you. I have problems, I'm not perfect; I might not know who I am, or why I'm doing this, but uncertainty has never stopped the human race before. And this is how humanity will always face its end, never cowering; always fighting.'
In the war against the Cruel angels; against the universe; against God himself, Humanity did what even Lucifer and all the angels in the heavens couldn't do. We took the apples; we stood the torment of the world outside Paradise and found a reason to thrive in it; and when he sent his servants to teach us Humility for standing proud and to cleanse the earth in Judgement day; we stood, heads raised high in defiance of that Bastard father of all.
    And We won.'

And I pilot Evangelion 03. I know many of you have a problem with children piloting the Evangelion, you think we're too young, or such responsibility shouldn't be left in the hands of the young. I know there's a movement to have us replaced, with adults, or Dummy plugs, theres even a radical movement to kidnapp a few of us and 'Debrainwash' us so we can go back to being normal kids.
Let me share something with you.
I have a kill count of 6 Angels; 387 spawn, 2 rouge Evangelion; and 1 man who tried to assassinate me.
    I am not a child.
I grew up a Soldier, I am trained in 4 Martial arts, I know how to plant a Claymore, breech a wall, negotiate with terrorists in a hostage situation; drive a tank, drive a bomber Jet; I know how to waterboard someone because I looked it up on Google incase I ever needed to; and if any of you try to 'save' me from NERV or from myself; I will escape and I will kill as many of you as I have to, to return to my duties; because if you Kidnapp a member of NERV, then you are a terrorist; one of the worst terrorists who has ever lived, you risk killing more people than Hitler, the Black Plague and the Second Impact combined, no matter your intentions.
Because you're kidnapping someone who is one of a very small group of people that stands between the human race and total extinction. I do not have the time nor the inclination to feel sympathy for you or your cause, just because you 'mean well'. We're at war. Sacrafices must be made; and I gladly give myself so the human race can go on. Anyone who stands in the way of that is a traitor to all the world, guilty of a crime so big, there isn't even a name for it.
I'm a Pilot and wear that as a badge of Pride.

My DM treated him as a subordinate.

The OD was still a player, and only had the vaguest idea where the DM was going with the plot, but on multiple occasions he would help out to make things run smoother, and the pair bounced ideas off each other initially to get the campaign under way.

At one point, the DM lost his notes, and went on a crusade to recover them. During that time, the OD stepped up as a sub DM, and had us play through a full day at school.

The OD is more than just another player character--he's The Guy In Direct Charge. He's the commanding officer. He's got a position that, in many games, could be NPC'd. He knows things the pilots can't.

Here's part of how I handle ODs: I write up a big list of information for the setting, how I"m going to be running it. ANd I hand it to the OD. That is what he knows. It can all be released to the pilots on a need to know basis... and High Command will make sure it was need to know.

Worst: Another player destroying every single building in a ten-block radius of an Angel's death, because the Angel before that had caused a small-scale zombie apocalypse from the spawn it left after it's death. Said buildings included a hospital, an orphanage, and the building where most of our classmates had taken refuge. Including that character's NPC love interest.

    The eyes are not here
    There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
    In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms

In this last of meeting places
    We grope together
    And avoid speech
Gathered on this beach of the tumid river

    Sightless, unless
    The eyes reappear
    As the perpetual star
    Multifoliate rose
    Of death’s twilight kingdom
    The hope only
    Of empty men.

Johnston, stop painting "This is how the world ends" on Unit 07's armor. Not only does this violate regulations, but it actively hurts our ongoing PR efforts and morale in general.

Yes, I know it was you. You're the only one on the maintenance crew with an MFA degree. Consider this your first and only warning.

Early 21st century advances in the field of human cloning are perhaps most well known for the widespread cloning of the late Premier Vladimir Putin. After having been struck down by an assassin's bullet(s)* Putin was cloned no less than seven times. This has allowed him to serve not only as a political martyr, but also as both Premier and head of the KGB in addition to multiple smaller roles including oil tycoon and perhaps most famously hosting the top rated cooking series** on broadcast television.
-excerpted from 'The State of Cloning in The Late 20th and Early 21st Centuries'

*Accounts of Putin's death vary wildly some claim that he was shot by an American Special Forces Sniper, others tell that he engaged in a deadly gun kata duel with late President Medvedev, still others that it was the result of a volley of RPG or Katyusha fire, and extending on into more unbelievable accounts of his being dissolved into a pool of orange liquid or primordial ooze. The official Russian statement that he was killed in a three day firefight against a platoon of Chechen rebels supported by a pair of captured T-70 tanks has not helped deter such wild speculation, and most Russians believe he is not dead, merely waiting.

sorry, I may have been too drunk there. The only thing which I notice looking at it now is that the slider for Red on the Arms tab is shifted over. Also the fourth set of colour name tags being there for body parts that only have three colours bugs me, but whatever.

Mine ended with like... BARELY third impact. It was basically like all of humanity tripped balls for about 2 minutes, since the players managed to reduce it from a bang to a whimper.

Hell, they even convinced everyone not to start World War 3 and/or 4 and to disassemble their Eva scale armaments!

    I have!

The Good End of the campaign was my character (the norse neopagan berserker who ended up some conglomeration of Odin and Tyr) fighting his way to his Evangelion after the last Angel attacked in the middle of him getting tried for war crimes, getting in, fighting the Angel until it was just outside where we kept the Seed of Knowledge.

Then, to keep the Angel from getting it, I ate it.

Then I ate the Angel's core, which, as it turned out, was the Seed of Life.

I then proceeded to, using these awesome powers, merge with my Evangelion and initiate my own Third Impact. Over the campus of what was once MIT grew a great tree, taller than many buildings, reaching up to the edges of the Earth's atmosphere. This tree, this World Tree, Yggdrasil, was the manifestation of humanity's collective unconcious, and with it came immortality and wisdom for all who wished it. My Pilot, in human form, walked out, and created with the last bit of the power he got from the Seeds of Life and Knowledge the NORNS, biological computer systems to allow people to interface with the knowledge of the World Tree.

And, for a time, there was peace and prosperity on Earth.

Then the Angels returned, and we started a game that was basically Neon Genesis Battlestar Galactica, with the remnants of humanity fleeing from horrible Angelic monsters in a world-ship, carrying the seeds of life, knowledge, and the world tree with them. But that's another story alltogether.
