112 KB Black knight quest OP 01/06/12(Fri)22:30 No.17449009
    >"A mysterious stranger once sold me a magical set of armor. His price was my own flesh and blood. I graciously accepted, for I would sacrifice anything for king and country."

    >"I still remember my own horrid screams as I donned the armor, blood pooling at my feet as my flesh was consumed, and my soul bound."

The scenario had played over in your head counts amounts of times as you stalked through the ruins of the capital. It was almost as funny in an ironic sort of way. How you sacrificed everything to save your kingdom from the clutches of a crazed mage trying to gain dominion over each of the elements.

Your king and counsel had just started working out a proper elemental defense when a massive earthquake overtook the city. In the pandemonium that ensued, few failed to notice the jutting earth rising around the city, before clamping down over the top like an over sized pair of hands, hauling those still in the capital down unto their earthen tomb. Save for you, this was your prison.

You still remember how first the food ran out, and people started fighting their neighbor for even the smallest scrapes. How some people even resorted to cannibalism, only to be struck down by the royal guard.

It was not long before the water ran dry, and those that fought for food could no longer even support their own weight.

Throughout all this, you did nothing, for you were not beckoned to by your liege. He had not been the same since the walls of stone came crashing down upon the city, this became evident when reports of women and children going missing started piling in. It would have gone on unsolved had you not walked in on the red feast, in all its visceral glory. The orgy of flesh and gore did something to some piece of humanity left within your armored shell. The mad king and his bloodied nobility were the first to die by your hand. The Royal soon followed as they responded to the cries of the king.

Soon after the air started thinning, and you knew what must be done. The ones that weren't claimed by the lack of sustenance soon succumbed to the lack of air. Those that did not fell by your hand, lest they have the indignity of suffocating to death.

    Fuck it Hadrian it is.
You walked the familiar surroundings, never changed despite their age. This place truly was a tomb, YOUR tomb, and you had grown to accept that long ago.

Your thoughts drew back to the bastard mage that had done this, and the outside world. You wondered what had become of it after your imprisonment, and finally came to rest on your own family. After your bounding to the armor, they feared you as many did, but you still wondered what had become of them. A strange thought indeed.

Then you heard something, something a set of ears not amplified by the magics that bound you could not hope to hear. You heard scraping. Not even goblins or kobols came to this place, you check your weapon and head towards the noise.

Keeping grip on your trusty Glaive, you walk a brisk pace towards the scraping, growing audibly louder by the passing minute. It became quite obvious some THING was digging into the cavern.

If you still had a body, you would have been quivering in excitement. Finally, a chance to escape this place, after all these centuries. You neared the section of the wall that was now rumbling and shaking off dirt. Something was coming.

    You position yourself and wait.

The wall soon crumbled under the hammering of many creatures trying to get in.

Soon giving birth to its cursing and stinking children, they spilled out into the cavern, only to stop dead in their tracks as the angry red glare peered out from the slit of your helmet, made all the more imposing by the towering glaive at your side, easily large enough to cut a horse in two.

    Orcs.

You had wondered why goblins would be coming to this godforsaken place, as they feared the places were slumbering power waited. But Orcs? They were just a few roving bands barely able to properly dress themselves the last you had heard, they didn't have the ingrained sense of fear the other demihumans had in face of the gaping abyss. THESE orcs however were dressed in fine steel armor. Hmph, you suppose in time anything can flourish.

Its not long that the bigger, stronger orcs start inching their way towards you. You almost laugh at the situation when one straight out charges you. You realize you have never even fought an enemy before being entombed here, let along test out the armors strength.

The other orcs soon joined in, at least 40 of them, their battlecries echoing off the walls.

Well time to put yourself to the test.

Roll 1d100. First 3 rolls after this post add up to 50 to hold them back, 85 gets you a critical. Ignore the sword.

    HOLY SHIT YOU SAVED US

Picking the nearest orc, witch is still meters away and lash out, cleaving open his stomach and casting his entrails out. Using the momentum of the slash, you spin the glaive, bringing it down on the next one, cutting him cleanly in two.

The next was almost on top of you before you leap backwards, clear of his ax. This were going not as well as they could have been, had you been able to experience real combat after the fact. You still haven't quite gotten the hang of your strength, or you new towering height. Who knows what other things the armor has bestowed on it.

You may soon find out as one of the orcs in the back starts firing arrows at you. A clever move, had you actually contained flesh under your obsidian exterior, rather foolish now. Arrows ping off you as you dispatch three more of their number, which doesn't seem to be dwindling as much as you hoped.

Time to take it up a notch. You charge at the heaviest armored orc and ram the full length of your glaive through him and start charging towards the tunnel. You run faster than any mortal, swinging your burden left and right while it screams out in agony. Your morbid standard seems to unnerve your aggressors, and some of the smaller ones soon flee back the way they came. You were gaining the upper hand.

    *CHATHUNK*

    Something rammed into your kneejoint.

roll 1d40 to see if you fall flat on your face. Remember you were going quite fast.

Shooting your other leg forward and jabbing the butt of the glaive into the ground, you skid to a halt and glance at your knee. A strange thing protruded from it, almost like an arrow, but much smaller and thicker. Looking up at your now sneering sparring partner, you glare at him, well as close as a glare you can get with a visor for eyes, the slit just glows even more red then it already was. This seemed to make quite the impression on your friend, for he dropped the strange looking contraption and started backing away. Then you heard a very foreign noise.

It sounded wet, like a knife cutting through raw steak, and it seemed to echo around you, and into you. Looking down, for the first time in several centuries, you felt your non existent heart skip a beat.

Around your knee joints, the surface of the armor was writhing, almost as if in pain. The noise echoed through you like screams until you quickly hauled the wooden spike out, only to find the inky tendrils rush to the hole and seal over it.

    The armor lives.

With no time left to ponder, you heft the glaive and throw it at the offending orc, its wailing cargo in tow and impaled them into the "walls" of the city. Picking up a discarded sword, you turn to face the rest of the mob.

Your entire being a writhing mass of steel against their number of roughly 26.

    What do you do?
    >Try to draw SOMETHING out of your living case

    >try and dispatch the rest with your new sword

    >something else?

State what you want to do, and roll 1d100. Over 50 for success, 85 for crit.

You reach into yourself, into the dark writhing mass of black steel and look for something, anything. Anything that can let you taste sweet freedom again. You strain your very consciousnesses trying to find it.

    And there it was.

Reaching out you realize you can control whatever this armor was made of, shape it to your will, your not sure if you can do anything with a mind of its own, but maybe....THERE! placing a piece of your own mind into your creation, you will it out of yourself.

Something swelled on your back, hunching down in the pain an pressure, you let loose a metallic roar that shapes the very foundation of the ancient city. And your call is answered. Spilling out from the houses the souls of the very people you put down rush to your aid, surrounding you and your creation, filling it with the life you could only barely provide. Amid the raging torrent of malice and hate, you hear one voice call out. One earnest voice.

    >PICK ME, OH PLEASE ME MR. KNIGHT I DON'T WANT TO LIVE THIS WAY ANY LONGER

A flash of memory reminds you of a crying child begging for a swift death rather than being eaten by the cannibals or suffering the slow horrid alternative. Cont. next post

You rip the other souls out of your creation, and call forth the one person in the entire hell that you resided in, didn't curse you for the horrid act you did. And the kid embraced his new home, and again spoke to you causing another flash of memory.

    >THANK YOU AGAIN FOR SAVING ME

You are holding the childs again, and bring the dagger to his chest. "Thank you Mr. Knight, the others say that you have gone mad, but you are only doing us a kindness." He smiles.

    >YEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Your roar echoes out, surging with power

Forcing the remainder of the souls as fuel for your new companion, it explodes out your back like an swarm of black ants. Black as midnight and eyes as crimson as your own eye, it rears up and neighs.

Congratulations, you now have a horse fueled by the souls of the damned. What shall we call it? 1d100 GOGOGO

After your rather extraordinary feat, the Orcs did what any sensible thing would do; broke and ran the fuck back up the tunnel.

Pacing over to your spooked felsteed, you place a mailed gauntlet on it and soothingly call out a name.

    >"MERCY"

A fitting name for the populace of the sunken city, it was mercy the begged you for when you cut them down, and it was mercy a child just nearing adulthood had asked you for when he didn't want to live in this hell anymore. You've hand enough of this pit.

Mounting Mercy, you kick him into a quick trot over to your discarded glaive, and prepare yourself to leave this hellish place.

Grabbing the haft, you haul it effortlessly out of the rock. Focusing again, this time on a lesser extent, and it comes much easier. There is no torrent of souls this time, but the tendrils from your hand extend outward until it covers the entire massive weapon in the same black coloring that covers your entirety, the blade seems to glow a ghostly white.

With a free practice swings, you have concluded your glaive can now cut through solid stone, and can not break as long as the tendrils cover it.

Looking to the unremarkable blade in your hand, you think of doing the same, but instead try and do something different. Focusing inward, you pull the sword into yourself and find that something feels...feels so right about consuming it.

You have gain an upgrade! Consuming things gives you the option for 1 thing to upgrade or unlock for yourself. Of course this is just a normal sword, so don't expect to get anything out of these again. Sure maybe if you keep eating more and more swords every time, but thats just silly.

Anyways, pick an upgrade to something you already have, or something new. 1d40 GO

Fire sounds neat, could be modified to be able to be manifested at will to either defend yourself from poorly-crafted weapons (body), or to imbue your weapon with the fire itself at the cost of the defence (hands/weapon)

I.E: It moves all over your body as you will it to.

Could be red as well to fit with the visor color.

Just saying "Upgrade" doesn't help anything. Do you want Mercy to breath fire out his ass? Fly? Have a majestic rainbow follow him? What do you want upgraded?

This sounds good, but is it too overpowered? Wouldn't it have to be something like body OR weapon or whatever? Seems too much to be able to use it everywhere.

Rolling for it regardless, OP can decide on how overpowered it's allowed to be.
    >> Cegorach 01/07/12(Sat)01:39 No.17450819
I want Mercy to leave a trail of fire where he goes - his hoofprints catch alight in a red glow, his mane turns into cold fire when he's angry, his eyes come alight like our own, and his breath becomes sulphur smoke that makes our enemies choke.
Its mostly aesthetic, but I think we can't be a proper hellknight without a proper hellsteed.
Our bucefalus will be like us - a monster on the outside, human, on the inside.
For this horse has the Soul of a Child.

Going with this since the others wont specify.

Considering you just gave birth to a horse with the soul of an adolescent child, fire at will doesn't seem that overpowered.
    >>17450819
Since Mercy is technically a part of you, the effects CAN go join over for certain things. You you will only be able to have it for either defense or attack for the time being.

A chilling black fire overtakes you and your steed, it seems as though you are cloaked in shadows. Testing your control over the strange new power, you note that it can move anywhere you command it. Throwing the cloak on again, Mercy neighs and his own fire bursts into life around his legs. Its time.

You heft your glaive, and spur the horse onwards, charging up through the tunnel. Faster and Faster you go, up and up and up. Several side passes wizz by as you continue your ascent, and you could have sworn you saw trembling greenskins in one of them. No matter, you are almost free.

Mercy seems to smell something on the air and gallops faster, faster still burning towards the exit and sky you have so longed to see. Then you see it. LIGHT!

Pointing your glaive forward, incase this leads to some orc camp or something, you put on one final burst of speed when you finally come out to find the deep blue sky.

If you had eyes, you probably would have cried, the absolute majesty of the sight you see moves you in ways you have never before felt. You take continue to take in the sight, but not before you Mercy's "Huffs" finally get you to look down.

You now hang precariously on a very narrow ledge leading to a VERY long drop. In fact, its not even a cliff you are on, whatever arcane magic is floating around your vision allows you to see that we are on a giant hunk of rock floating over the ocean. Glancing around you see many other floating islands like around, off in the distance you see billowing black clouds.

    >"WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?"

You have only a moment to question before the rock you were standing on breaks under the weight of an armored rider and horse. You plummet into the deep blue ocean that awaits below.

Roll 1d40. 35+determines how you break your fall.

I'm going to end this session very soon, its 3:30am here.

We fall for a bit, then we reign Mercy in and laugh as his hellfire makes him able to run on water, boiling it at such a vast rate the air creates a temporary bridge for him.

This only lasts a moment before he sinks regardless, but at a full sprint we glide across the water with ease.

I'm just going for rule of cool now.

Superheat the rock we are standing on using our new fire power and ride it into the ocean with columns of steam rising as we fall, not practical but the ocean needs to know who's boss.

Alternately we spur mercy on and jump of her into a plate armoured dive, we don't need to breath right?

    BY YOUR POWERS COMBINED

Streaming downwards, spittle flying out of our mighty steeds mouth as we quickly gain speed downwards. Quickly regaining control of yourself, you focus all your heat from the fire on the rock you are still somehow standing perfectly in place on. It dawns on you that Mercy's hooves must have melted into the rock, meaning the rock was form-able! You start chuckling, which sounds more like soft grinding of metal.

You shape the rock into a more suitable shape while falling at a rather alarming rate, but you did not care. Fear was for mortals with weak limbs, Meatbags. Then you noticed a dot on the ocean, growing rapidly. A ship. You were plummeting towards it on horseback while your horse stood on a stone platform while surrounded in baleful black fire. You were some kind of horrible attempt at a rocket or something.

Oh well, nothing you can do about it you shrugged. As you tore through the deck at blazing speeds, you took comfort in the fact it seemed to be an Orc ship. before crashing into the water. Only to skip across the water several times before You spurred Mercy to hop of and keep galloping. He stumbled at first, but a quick increase to the flames at his feet let him regain his balance.

You ride away, in a random direction as the blazing inferno of a ship explodes in the background. And for the first time in centuries, you let out a laugh. A terrifying, unnatural laugh, but a laugh none the less. You are free.

    >"HAH HAH HAH HAH HAH"
