23 KB Earth War Quest Part 2 OPs Chief 01/21/12(Sat)07:12 No.17617453
    Previously: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/17603202/

You are Eric "Dundee" Raifedo. Pilot of the Pan Asian Alliance and all around nut-case behind Mech controls.

At the end of the last session you had taken down a Fourteen-Strong Vehicular convoy and its Six Mech Escorts and only sustained moderate damage, enhanced your reputation of being a monster the moment you get in front of someone AND scored some sweet salvage. (Large amounts of parts and scrap metal, ammunition, two missile laden siege mechs - one needing its entire cockpit section replaced while the other was in mostly decent shape BUT most important of all booze and Naughty Nurse mags!)

Before continuing your patrol you proceed to liberate some of the more choice bits of rotgut to keep you warm in this horrific rainy weather. Your Australian alcohol instincts serve you true as you manage to get the best of the best. (Roll: 92)

The rest of your patrol goes without any hitches, at least that was what it seemed. You park the Salt-Water in its designated spot and exit with a hearty whoop, taking a swig of your appropriated beverage.

You don't notice a mechanic giving you an annoyed glare behind your back before getting things organized to fix up the damages your squad has taken.

Jack was equally enthused as you were, clapping his hands together before stretching.

"Well that was a real rage there mate! Got any more plans after that bit of fun?"

You should probably go inform your superiors about what you saw.

Or you could put it off to do something considerably more amusing.

Let me say, as an Australian. That Eric "Dundee" Raifedo is the best Quest PC ever.

    Keep up the Awesome work

Anyway. I say we go talk to our superiors. So far they've let us keep our previous stash of beer with out mates because we've been responsible enough to use it responsible. So let us not lose that Privilege.

Also, Eric needs to hate spiders. Like really, really fucking loathe spiders.

Yo. Good to see you back Chief.
I recommend a thorough debriefing. Also, we need to make sure to appropriate a tarp for our MAV. This is no time to come down with shorted equipment, especially since things seem to be getting hot round 'ere.

"Nothin too excitin' there Jack. Gotta go give the higher ups the word. Don't want the Amber Nectar to stop flowin if ya catch my drift."

At that Jack's expression is at its most serious. He gives you a firm nod as if he was wishing you luck.

You get moving to the Command and Control area of the base as fast as you can. On the way there however... you spot a spider.

Normally most people would just keep walking. But the eight-eyed buggers send an immense feeling of utterly primordial hate that you can never seem to muster against ANYONE or ANYTHING else no matter how foul their deeds.

This violent hate is pushed to greater heights at the fact that its just STARING at you.

D100 to resist the spider induced hate-frenzy...

or you could just let it take a hold of you.

"Next time you little eight eyed bastard... next time..."

    You continue on to C&C.

The room's lights are dim. Its not as large as most other bases. But so far its kept you alive.

    "Raifedo"

The voice sliced through the sounds of machinery and the voices of the people at their stations like a combat knife through baby-soft skin.

You see one of the more dilligent, if junior officers stationed here. Lieutenant Ryoko Nakamura. Not the first person you'd have wanted to talk to given how inflexible she tends to be compared to the other officers but she'd get the reports through.

"Well Ma'am. About a quarter way into our patrol my Squad and I bumped into an enemy unit carrying enough ordnance to light the entire base up like a barbecue back home."

She seemed to frown at this. No, frown is the wrong word to use. It was like she bit into a rotting lemon filled with maggots.

"And you didn't think to let us know?"

"They could have gotten their Siege Mechs up and running by the time we let you in the know Ma'am. We pretty acted within protocol and managed to n-.. procure some salvage, as well as some intelligence."

You stumble a little with your words, but you get the point across, barely managing to sound professional.

Lieutenant Nakamura was still looking as tense as she always was, with a little bit of disbelief at how a seemingly incompetent person like yourself could pull something like that off.

"We've had it sent to our decryption experts pilot. Inform the other members of your squad to report here as soon as possible so I can get a different perspective on this. Dismissed."

Your hand becomes a mighty fist, tearing through the air to crush the pathetic arachnid that all but taunted you with its mere presence.

What was left brought to mind the enemy infantryman Hong had stepped on for scorching the Red Mist. Only what was left of the spider had its skeleton (carapace, whatever it was) on the outside rather than on the in...

"You three probably shouldn't waste anymore time on this. Head down to C&C for a debrief."

Aarushi raised an eyebrow, looking somewhat confused - though it was still tinged with smoldering annoyance.

"But I thought that you had already been debriefed. Usually its just-"

    "The LT has the floor."

You shrug lightly as your squad gets the message. Jack was giving the Quartermaster a look as venomous as a box jellyfish. Hong was muttering curses at the Quartermaster that were common to both of them. Out of the three though Aarushi was making a commendable attempt to calm herself.

Now that the debriefing situation was taken care of, lets toss the most vilest insult we can at this guy before heading off to see the captain.

Wait. Wake him up? Sure a spat with a Requisitions officer is significant but I doubt it calls for us to wake up our superior officer to complain about it.

If he's asleep let him rest, we can talk about it in the morning. If he's awake then we can get down to business.

After looking over the papers you seem to note that it hammers out an agreement between the quartermaster and several independent contractors and arms dealers looking for military grade hardware.

Other papers generally seem to be records of sale. Given that its the quartermaster's supply shed you were probably going to have to hide them somewhere.

This strikes you as very suspicious because its all very clean and thought out. Its too obvious to be damning evidence for the quartermaster.

First things first, can we see outside? If so make it so when can keep an eye on events outside.
Then search the room for semi-relevant files, and attempt to hide them somewhere where an investigation would turn them up. Hiding them under 'expenditures' would be too obvious, but hiding them in a pile of obsolete papers in a corner is no good either. Gotta find a happy medium, a place where you'd hide illegitimate paperwork you needed to keep track of.

Are you willing to reconsider your position in light of factual evidence or will you let my planes slip through your terribly outdated defenses?

Guns on tanks are for 2 things in modern times: Killing mans, and killing armored targets. They are good at doing the former because modern tanks are accurate up to 3 kilometers. They are good at 2 because you don't need to send your squishy mans into the man-squishing range of your opponents' tanks.

Because of the speeds and distances involved with modern aircraft, it requires not only incredibly fast missiles, but incredibly fast missiles launched from an also incredibly fast platform to stand a chance at taking them down. This is why predator drones and cruise missiles are used instead of flak guns.

Captain Lim grimaces and slowly lowers the gun. Letting it slowly slip from his fingers. Its on the floor.

The Lieutenant, caught off guard by the whole situation, backs off a little and draws her sidearm. Her hand is shaky as she keeps it on the Captain.

    >>17619838

The Captain snorts. There's a smirk on his face.

"Money. I spent the better part of my life fighting for the PAA and I get stuck out here. A couple of guys in the Middle East and their UEL buddies gave me a lot of money to make sure this place fell apart. Break the men, break the fort after all."

He was still smiling. Something's wrong here. Very wrong.

I guess she's in charge now. Suggest we get him the hell out of here...because it's likely something bad is about to happen.

    >>17619895

"Hey Lieutenant. Guess you get a promotion since this son of a bitch is a damn dirty traitor."

Nakamura nods. She was still clearly disturbed by the whole situation though.

"Listen, you're probably scared shitless that Mr. Friendly Superior Officer here tried to off you, but we've got a situation here. Think you can take charge once we get this shitpiece locked up?"

    "I'll try..."

"Oh you've got more than a situation here..."

There was an explosion outside. And it was accompanied by alarms. A few more explosions.

The Lieutenant had a panicked look on her face and stumbles as another explosion rocked the ground and rattled the contents of the room.

Lim uses this moment to grab his gun.

You were not prepared when Lim raised his gun at you. A shot rings out before the sound of yet another explosion drowns it. Pain.

Your pulse is hammering wildly. You look down and see blood.

There's a thump on the floor.

Lim is on the ground, bleeding and in pain.

The Lieutenant almost drops her gun before her grip tightens on it to the point her fingers are going pale.

The bullet that the turncoat fired skidded along your shoulder. It was not a pleasant feeling.

And you obviously know that being in a room full of military supplies while explosions were happening would not lead to pleasant feelings either.

It kind of stings when you move your injured arm to properly bind Lim. But its a lot better than what he's probably feeling.

"Lieutenant, you need ta get to the CnC and take control. I'll follow with this -You give Lim a kick right in the bullet wound, earning a scream- scum. We need to figure out what's going on"

She nods in understanding, but there was some very real fear on her face, as well as some concern. She tries to get professional.

"A...Alright. I'm counting on you Pilot."

Just kinda had this reaction to her words.

Anyways. Hoist Lim up, in a fireman's carry on our good shoulder. If we can, go past the staging area where we'd normally meet our squad. If they're there, tell em to armour up and we'll join them once we've dropped Lim off.

    The LT has the floor.

    >>17620282

As you get outside it gets clear that the explosions were not just explosive charges. You can see silhouettes of Siege Mechs in the distance as well as more of those Gatling-Mechs and Target Painters.

You have to move. NOW. You put Lim over your good shoulder and run like hell.

The route you take leads you towards the staging area your squad makes the most use of. You can see Jack and Aarushi rushing towards it.

You all get to cover as quickly as possible.

"Jesus Christ! Looks like the shitstorm out there didn't like us grabbing their stuff!"

    "Jack. Not now. Where's Hong?"

"He managed to get here ahead of us. He's with the boys from Third Squad right now."

Nakamura chooses this moment to make herself known to the squad.

"I need you two to power up your MAVs and get out there."

She looks quickly at the machines still present.

"Try and do something about the enemy bombardment."

Aarushi and Jack share a look, then look at you and Lim on your shoulder.

"Do what she says. This asshole on my shoulder has fuck-all authority now."

    They nod and get moving.

3d100 to get to C&C, the casualties Third Squad will take and if enemy forces will make your day worse.

You and the Lieutenant, along with your prisoner do your best to weave through the very literal firestorm that was ripping through the base.

Between the wreckage/debris, gunfire and explosions getting to the C&C building was a trial in patience.

Patience that was promptly tried when a quadrupedal machine that was so very clearly hostile stepped into view and proceeded to torch a trio of fleeing mechanics with its turret mounted flamethrowers.

The "Spider Tank" turns its sights to you, and was promptly hammered repeatedly by a storm of bullets before it crumpled to the ground, its fuel tanks exploding.

Red Mist stepped into view. Hong's machine turns to regard you and the Lieutenant for a moment in acknowledgement before getting back into the fight.

Unfortunately, as Hong went off - it seemed that he may have missed out the chance to gun down some enemy infantry. Which had now caught sight of you.

With the amount of wreckage and debris strewn about it wasn't difficult to find cover. The problem is the fact that they proceeded to pin the both of you down with suppressing fire.

Truly this was a tough situation.
