Thank you, elegan/tg/entleman, i think my French and Spanish are slowly corrupting my latin. However, as it is High Gothic anyway, so no one really gives a fuck as long as it sounds right.

On other news - at the end of the last session Tactical Marine suggested some colour schemes for Rising Sons

Who was our progentitor chapter? When it comes to color schemes, I liked the middle one. The green and the gray seemed to clash in my opinion. The first was good too. But I think we
should incorpate maybe a sort of transition affect, like how at dawn the the lowest point of the sky is orange, changing into a more red, then finally regular blue. Kind of like orange legs, reddish torso, with grey arms?

    Also, great to see you!

I'd vote for improving Nordgrim. Salvation is good and all, but unless something changes, that neighborhood has some problems with us, namely how *accidently* started a genocide. Salvation is great, but Heidrun sort of won't ever be in our control unless we save it from some big bad marauding force of Orks or something.

Is subsector Cryptus (that's the one we're in, right) our assigned area, or is it Sector Deus as a whole? Because the only places that seem good for a Monastery are Lamenta and maybe Nordgrim, but Lamenta has the problem of not having people on it, and Nordgrim doesn't like technology. We might have to look at other subsectors, maybe when we've grown a bit.
    >> Anonymous 01/26/12(Thu)14:19 No.17683963
For our monastery, Lamenta V seems best.

    Pros:
    >right next to our allies
    >death world status would make for good initiates if we decide to colonize it
    >close to Onyx, makes purchasing new equipment fairly simple

    Cons:
    >close to Onyx, if they attack us openly we're right on their doorstep, though the inverse is also true

I am very much against using a deathworld atall. Its fine for colonisation, crusading or recruitment. But not HQ, that has to be something more interesting as the monastery has to be strategically placed, not just for this system but others too.

Because if the field neutralizes any corruption, I think it's a better idea to keep these heretical artifacts under our watchful eye, and also give the morale boost of having trophies of our successes and mementos of our defeats.

I think it just slows it down, to the point where we'd have to leave them sitting for a couple thousand years to get a day's worth of corruption. Still dangerous in the long term, but not "oh god daemons everywhere" dangerous.
    >> Nigel 01/26/12(Thu)14:56 No.17684352

The political argument is invalidated because Lamenta is just as barren as an asteroid. Planets would likely have more minerals as well. And a deathworld goes with the, I'm a space marine, I can kill you with my left foot while eating breakfast.

On a side note, I think we should try to colonize Lamenta. Not necessarily in preparation for a Monastery, but because have a planet loyal to us is a good thing. Also, because Salvation's initiate rate fell, we need a new place to recruit. Deathworlds are great recruiting grounds.

We should start to think more about economy too: we burn any income as fast as we get any. So I think we should invest our wealth in salvation on sth.
As for expanding our fleet: I think that te best way to do this is to concentrate on taking over ships of our enemies (I have some pirates in mind) if we have some adventage in battle.

We should probably try to contact an artificer on salvation.

Later we may need to train/promote some techmarines into artificers and station them in the manufactorum when we buld the monastery. That way we dont have to go so far to other worlds for some types of equipment.

We should also see what onyx has to sell.

I've been thinking about the characters and i'd suggest:

Chapter master: master crafted power sword, power fist?

New Chaplian: artificer armour, crozius achrynim, rosearus, and whatever other weapon they prefer. Melta bombs.

Librarian: combi-bolter (so he doesnt have to use his psychic powers so much). Rune weapon (whatever he prefers)

The planet's dislike for technology won't matter one jot if we base a fortress-monestry on the moon above them (see The savages of Baal and the Blood Angels above for details), and we'd still get ready access to any archeotech from the crash site/recruits/be right next to them to defend the planet if pirates turn up. Plus, they like us and don't have suspicion upon them, which is more then could be said for Onyx or Tyr. Heck, if we're ever in a real scrape we can always call on THEM for help to bulk our numbers out a bit.

You can upgrade both of them, but the simple problem with ship is that it's too small/not specialised for things such as:
    +Shipyards
    +Manufactorums
    +Industry
    +Temples
    +Barracks
(some of these things I mention can be built to a small degree, but not any further, like max lvl 1 Barracks, and only in Cruisers or heavier ships)
I have no prices at hand right now, but building something on ship will cost about 50% more because of logistics and need to rearrange inner workings in the ship.

so, Rising Sons, whom do you hate most, from all your travels so far, as a Chapter Master? Eldar who cut off your arm? Asmodeus who tricked you? Moriarty who laughed and insulted you? Borborygmos who killed your friend? cast your vote

    Asmodeus.

Borborygmos was delivered the Emperor's Justice, and it does no good to waste hatred on a foe already crushed. Moriarty was beneath us, and beneath even contempt. And the Eldar may have cost us an arm, but from that too we can recover.

But... Asmodeus. Asmodeus plotted against us with no reason aside from the warped visions of chaos, and tried to use us, the Master of the Rising Sons, to sow the seeds for our chapter's downfall. It is this warped being that deserves the most hatred, in the hope that bitter hatred can be converted into the Emperor's retributuion upon his feeble plots and schemes.

The Eldar will pay in time. Any daemon is a vile enemy, and should be hated regardless of their actions. Moriarty is either dead or deposed, he ate his arrogant words as his fleet burned. Borborygmos is dead, the death of our brother is avenged for every treacherous marine we kill.

Just like in most scenarios, high risk, hi reward. After we stop off at Nordgrim, lets find some danger to protect the sector from. We're at full strength, now's a great time to do it.

I agree with this: we're a military force, not an economic one. Besides, it sets a bad trend: Say we raise the posperity of one or two planets and it all goes good? What's next? Won't all the other planets in the sector expect similar treatment? That could get messy.

Also, the reason many brothers have spoken for using Nordgrim as a base is because the medieval level society will produce tough, durable marines...raising their society up will go against this. It's the harshest worlds we have to recruit from, not the most advanced.

My reasoning: We are a military force, and with the founded of these STC's it seems we have been blessed by the emperor to become an extremely fast mobile strike force. We build the S.breakers here on Salvation (maybe one for industry?) and then a bike manufactorum on Nordgrim. We let modified (for regular humans) bikes trickle down to the population and style it as "faster horses*" (*or equivalent to what they have on the planet) we still get our tough durable marines, except now they have experience with the mobility. This makes a dangerous combination brothers.

You misunderstood. Shadow HQ is just one of the ways of maintaining a spy network. You can actually 'bribe' spy networks at 1W = 1 %. Then roll d100 on that with modifier to see what you get, if you fail - you lose some of the spy network. But if you want to save your marines on Onyx, you can just send a drop pod with squad of stealth marines, because you can find the exact dungeon where they are being kept.

Agreed. Could that Hunting Field be repurposed into a ritual arena instead? Regular human aspirants could fight each other for the right to challenge a Marine in unarmed combat. Of course, no killing. This would probably give a lower rate of xp gain, but would increase standing.

Unfortunately, these bikes are space marine sized and designed specifically for combat. you can spread technology by building tech guilds on Nordgrim, they will slowly bring all kinds of widely available STC's to create progress.

1 Tech guild is stable progress
    2 = minor problems
    3 = serious problems
    4+ = civil war anyone?

    >>17687657
Copying STC is possible, but is a very hard thing to do and costs a shitload of money. Onyx would copy Common STCs for 25W, Rare for 50W and Legendary for 100W, ofcourse with a right to take one copy for themselves. copying STC machine-spirit takes years work, because these are very sophisticated technologies, not a spoon factory.

    exactly.

basically, 40k fluff has it so that SM ships(all but 1, last i checked) don't have lance batteries, in an effort to hamper any attempts at a second Horus Heresy. SM ships are still -very- deadly in space battles, but they lack range.
I believe the only SM ship, a tiny escort, with a lance has it mounted ventrally, like a Nova Cannon is mounted on larger IN ships.

this makes any standard Imperial Navy ships we get fairly important, as they give us access to lance batteries and possibly nova cannons.

Battle Cry: ON THIS DAY WE RISE!

Values: (I assumed this was what we value in our recruits.)
    1. Skill.
    2. Faith.
    3. Intelligence.

Symbols: A sun rising? Sort of obvious. We also need something to commemorate Brother Mistius. Also an arm, I believe, was something our marines were wearing to provide motivation.

Specialty: I think long range would be best, at least for our ships. That way we can take out enemies and bombard planets. I think, really, we should be a monastery-based chapter. I don't think we should be fleet-based.

We should retreat ONLY if the Chapter Master orders it. If the Chapter Master is dead, retreat if we lose 2/3rds of our force.

Favored Weapon: Bolter, but the hammer-bolter design is the weapon everyone wants. The Sternguard's weapon.

    Greatest Enemy: Chaos Worshipers.

Best Friend: The Silent marines, can't remember their chapter name.

Humanity: We should think of humanity as the people we're sworn to protect, and nothing less. I don't think we should be absolutely hostile to mutants and xenos though.

Cult: Not familiar enough with the lore to offer anything.

Values: Self-reliance, Justice (formed when he didn't allow Tyr to go nuts on H despite us being the ones to bring them there).
    Symbols: A lost/decapitated arm
Best Friend: The Silent Chapter of Marines (I guess)
View on Humanity: A flawed species that can rise above it's flaws through faith in the Emperor: We, Space Marines, are the hand of the Emperor who corrects the flaws of Humanity.

Our battle tactics should reflect our belief in self-reliance: Each battle group should have objectives it's expected to achieve without help from others unless absolutely needed. A burning desire to "get the job down on our own" should be the heart of all Rising Sons.

    I disagree with several things:

The specialization- We should go for close range and boarding to maximize the fact that we are space marines. We can't put our power sword through someones face if we are 3 kilometers away.

Retreat: When the chapter master says so. If we aren't there, retreat if the battle turns away from our favor. And always, when we retreat, it should be a tactical withdrawal, not a "Fuck this shit, lets GTFO"

No best friend yet, either SoB, or Silent Guardians. The silent Guardians haven't really done much with us though, they gave us a librarian and we play regicide with them. We spent 4 years with the SoB.

Cult: We should be like how Space Marines are supposed to be, unaffected by the cult of the Emperor. The space marines are the only people in the Imperium that remember that the Emperor of man didn't want to be worshiped as a god, but to be respected as the pinnacle of humanity, a man perfect in every way a human being could be.

retreat: At force commander's discretion. The marine in command of -any- force should know when an objective cannot be completed or when retreat is an inferior option to a last stand.

humanity: We surrendered it to better protect it.

You are now witnesses to a think that doesn't happen so often. You see how Waaagh starts spinning around and then, one by one, Roks split away from it, dispersing like dust in the wind. Then your scanners detect series of explosions, rocking the Rok. At that moment, vox goes live:
    'Brother, are you still watching?'

Holy actual fuck, they did it. They really did it. I don't know about you guys, but I'm almost disapointed. Looks like we have some Xenos to kill. I vote to move in and pick of the ships that come flying out one by one with concentrated fire.

Also, reply "Brother o' Celestial Lions, we congratulate you on your amazing vistory. We had doubts, but you pulled through. We are going to mop up those that flee, when the Ork fleet is small enough we shall move in for the pick up. Do you have any thunder hawks still alive?"

How bad would it be for us to have a"misfire" and accidently shoot those two thunder hawks. We would get some heresy, but we would get that anyway, (we stood idly by as Brother Marines flew into battle). Would there be any repercussions amongst the men? That is nothing short of treachery, and our inaction is nothing to be ashamed of, lets look at the possible outcomes.

    We engage the waaagh,
    >our ships are horribly damaged up even if we win
    >Moriarty/Onyx/Chaos pop in and finish us off, along with the celestial lions if they survived
    >CL die regardless of win/loss

    We hold back,
    >CL win: the waaagh is dispersed, Moriarty remains strong as ever, but we aren't any weaker
    >CL lose: the waaagh follows us and we proceed with the plan

They fucked this whole thing up, and now we're going to lose who knows how many brothers putting an end to Moriarty's plot of insurrection.

We shall bare our shame as it is ours to bare. We faltered in our time of duty. But we shall hold our heads high, and never again show weakness or fear. When next battle arises, we shall be first to head the call Let it never be said that the Rising Sons (or whatever the fuck we're gonna end up calling ourselves) are cowards who flee at the first sight of battle.

we welcome the Celestial Lions aboard our HQ ship and honor their fallen and their victory.

    In private to Captain Theseus:

"Brother, please forgive my hesitation. It is clear that I have much to learn about command and combat against the ork menace. If you could enlighten my brothers and I with your experience, we would be forever in your debt."

if he hesitates or remains silent, add:

We know that Moriarty intends to build up ships to attack us. We know that Onyx has captured our battle brothers. That means that no, we cannot repair our ships, and no we cannot retrain more marines because we'll have been completely wiped out by Moriarty if we were weak after engaging the Rok.
