    Once again we gather, brothers...

Do you want a session today or should we wait for a better situation to strike again?

NEW PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME, if we have a session, that is.

And my greatest thanks for those brave brothers who fought at the rearguard yesterday and archived the thread while I had to retreat.

This is an ongoing collective game centered around a chapter of space marines. Skargan is the DM and everyone else throws in their opinion on what decisions the Chapter Master should make. It's somewhat inspired by, but ultimately unrelated to Chapter Master. This is the eighth session thus far. Previous sessions are here. >>17697066

The last thing we did last session was accept the Celestial Lions onto our ship after they defeated the Ork Waagh.

Right now the main questions are:

    1. How the Celestial Lions managed to defeat an entire Ork Waagh with just one frigate
    2. Whether Nixonia is a hive of scum and villainy like Jared said, or an innocent planet in good standing like the Celestial Lions said
    3. Where Moriarty is, if not on Nixonia, and whether he intends to attack us.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/12(Fri)14:55 No.17697253
After the congratulations, we need to tell them about the Moriarty situation on Nixonia.
    >> Anonymous 01/27/12(Fri)14:57 No.17697275
    >>17697240
    1. They're either REALLY good, really lucky, or both.
    2. It's probably a hive of scum and villainy, but Moriarty/the planet's ruler played the innocent victim to get the CL to come to their aid.
    3. Now that he knows we know, he won't stay on the planet long if he was there. If he's alive, he definitely intends to attack.

    1. Arrange a meeting with their Chapter Master and Captains and out own. (Appear to be purely congratulatory, but be suspicious.)
    2. With out the Lions knowledge, arrange for our best scouts to make planetfall on Nixonia. Have them keep constant communication updates.

Moriarty was a dick-ass RT ruling Heidrun. To say he was impolite is a massive understatement, and we engaged/defeated his fleet after one too many threats/insults. We recently learned from our pirate serf that he survived, and is gathering an army of traitorous criminals to get revenge.

Well then, inform the Scout captain that after the situation on Nixonia is assured. Have the location of Moriarty be top priority. (Also, inform him that he gains some...operational freedom for this task.)
    >> Strill 01/27/12(Fri)15:06 No.17697373
So an FYI on Moriarty for those who missed the first session: Since the first session was filled with nothing but idiots screaming PURGE!!! and DEATH TO THE HERETICS!!!, we went a bit psycho there. After first scouting Heidrun, our captain reported that its leader, Moriarty attempted to force our ships into his custody. We demanded reparations for the slight, but then decided to blow up his ships anyway. Then we decided to genocide half the population of the planet because there were so many heretics and also for the heck of it just because drugs are a weakness and Heidrun was full of druggies. We have now received word that Moriarty and the Black Guild, a pirate cartel, are gathering on Nixonia to attack us. We had originally planned to redirect an Ork Waagh to Nixonia, but a single frigate from the Celestial Lions chapter singlehandedly defeated the Waaagh while we sat back and tried to continue on our original plan. We have now accepted the Celestial Lions on our ship.

Wrongo. He insulted the honor of the chapter, and our following actions were completely justified in the sake of bringing the Emperor's Holy light to a drugged out den of scum and villainy. Out of it we got a city known as Salvation, which is what we brought to the suffering Heidrun.

    Good to see you Skargan!

Now, the cowards thing, is that warranted? We weren't being cowards, we were following our original plans when some gung-ho chapter that had no idea about the scope of the entire situation decided to balls out charge the center of the pack with no regard for the lives of their crew and the future of their chapter. We made the right choice, the only choice in not attacking. If 30 guys with malfunctioning pituary glands are standing there with baseballs bats, it's not cowardly to not run up and punch them in the face, its good sense. It's like not wearing Crip colors in a blood neighborhood, you just don't do it.

There was discussion on Chapter ideology last session, but nothing much came of it. Our head Chaplain, however, is a reasonable marine who believes that the emperor was a great man, and not a god, so make of that what you will. We've generally been fairly cautious and wary of traps, trying to keep casualties as low as possible, and succeeded pretty well thus far, even managing to defeat four obliterators without taking a scratch due to a lucky crit.

But did it cost us our honour? Who did we kill, drug fiends, heretics, and separatists. And I don't know about you guys, but what the Tyrians did was completely out of line, which is why we worked to set up Salvation, to protect those that were loyal to the Imperium from the barbarity of the marauding Tyrian death squads and ex-delirium addicts who hadn't succumbed to the withdrawal yet. I'm under the impression we saved those who needed saving, and killed those that necessitated an early demise. If I'm wrong about who we saved, then I will accept it.

Well they at least appear to be space marines from our communication, and they defeated the Waaagh so I don't think they're traitors or anything. I'd guess that Moriarty tricked them into thinking that Nixonia is a world in good standing and asked for their help. Other than that, the question is how they're so powerful. My best guess is that they're either really good, really lucky, or have some secret weapon they're not telling us about.

The suicidly flew into the biggest Rok, and had 4 thunderhawks drop off their marines on board, who preceded to eliminate the Warboss. Everything they owned except for 2 thunderhawks was destroyed in the process. It wasn't tactical genius, they just recognized that if they could somehow get their men onto the ship, they would have little trouble, because how the hell is a bunch of orks going to stop Space Marines in the confines of a ship.

You do not understand the Imperial morality. You're thinking of the Imperium as heroic (by modern, western standards), which it very decidedly isn't. It's fine if you think the chapter's morality should disagree with it, but don't think it would lose the chapter any honor in the wider Imperium if they trigger a genocide.

    No.

What your staying is that the imperium is as moronic and uncomplicated as 'purge purge purge', but that is at its most simplistic level made to entertain people who are new to 40k.

In actual fact, if you cause the destruction of too many humans it goes against the core purpose of the astarties, and would encourage people to think of them as heretics or renegades. Possibly using the souls of the dead for another purpose.

The only ones able to initate an exterminatus is the inquisition. Marines are used for assaults against key tactical points.

Kalemus will lead. Not only is he good at stealth, but Nimrod's troops may not even see battle if we don't locate Moriarty (if he left the planet for instance).

Squad size: 10, they need to be able to pull their own weight in case we can't deploy more.

Priority is the capture of Leyshan Moriarty, but killing him is acceptable if capture proves too difficult, or if he starts to escape. Harakim may be an enemy in the future but that's not why we're here.

Infiltrate capital. I doubt the RT would be hanging around the fleet unless it belonged to him.

Not sure about the last one.

Moriarty seems to be willing to agree, but he is torn on the 'serf' bit. He is a heir to dynasty of Rogue Traders and submitting to some other authority than the Golden Throne in the eyes of everyone will make him worse than the servitor who cleans Ogryns' toilets. Also he wants to live in luxury and to be IMPORTANT to your cause, if he is to take part in it..,

How do we reconcile this >>17700899

    with this: >>17700911

If we let Moriarty go, Waldorf will lose all respect for us.

We hand Moriarty to Theseus in good faith, in honour of the brotherhood between our chapters. For all we know, they might want him to answer for his crimes. But we add an aditional "But if this corrupted man escapes all justice for his multitude of crimes, I ask a boon of you. To end his life before he is allowed to resume spreading his poison amongst the echalons of Power."

Wait, *around*? As in encircling the planet? If that's the case, this warp storm may be the symptom of a much bigger problem.

Speaking of the warp, how long until our halberd is purified?

After Waaagh ork population probably is greatly weakened and it's greatest Warboss just left(both planet and life), so it means that they are slaughtering each other all day long.

There's the tricky part of Orks, you think they're harmless if they stick to killing each other. Then one gets big enough to unite them. Then the big one makes ships. Then they WAAAGH.

Moriarty is see your struggle, but the serfdom need not extend to your children so your dynasty can live on. You can live in luxury as long as it does not damage your fleet by extrem decadence. And your importance can not be doubted, we are risking a third of fleets power on you think on that if you fear. Also remember though we are a less exalted authority than the Golden Throne we are here and will protect our valed partner.

Theseus- Well that should be easy he is on this ship and we are talking to him. Also it looks unlikely that we will need to kill him even.

We give him a new name. To symbolize his new life in the chapter (if he agrees)

    Moriarty agrees on two conditions:
    1. You can keep a bolter at his head if you want, but he must be a free man on paper, not a serf
    2. He will do exploration/conquests/governing and everything else for you, but the money he will earn will go towards rebuilding his own fleet. After that he will remain your partner for at least 10 years and all his income during that time will be yours.

Define how many ships/how much wealth would your fleet be.

How about this; You may use a percentage (at most 50%) of the profit to build a new fleet after that you would be released for our serfdom?

500W or 1 Cruiser+3escorts or Planet, also possible combination. he agrees with.

    50% rule.

    is it a deal?

But we need you to be declared a servent of us nominally inorder to justify giving you use of our ship and some of our marine brothers (they will be there to make sure you don't betray us by the way)

Politics I hate it but it's the best I can think of, and unless you have any better Ideas.

He cannot accept servitude. On the other hand, he can be a permanent 'guest' on your ships 'share advice' with officers and so on how he would act and so on.

    To Moriarty
But if we just give you the ships then if would apear as if we folded onder what ever threats you made, this makes us look weak and we can't allow that. Perhaps if you pledged your dynasty to server us. Then we could clam that we are arming our servants and you can clame that you are only working for us for a time?

Why are you so adamant about not being called a serf? Is it outside presser or inside?

I think people are getting hasty. We still haven't dealt with the Celestial Lions. Do we tell them to screw off or do we give up our ships and then send Moriarty off with the Lions?

Just send Moriarty off with the Lions. No sense giving up ships just yet when we don't know if he'll live past where he gets to.

Nooooooo! I just got back from work and it's over!

Oh well. Just finished rereading and this is my 2 cents:

Negotiate to send Moriarty with the Lions, but after that business is done have him come back to us. His dynasaty would make a great partnership with our chapter if we can both put the Heidrun Fiasco behind us. Rogue Traders tend to know what the hell they're doing most of the time, and giving him command of a few escorts, plus a retinue of Marines to keep him on the straight and narrow, act as the muscle, represent the authority we give him in the name of the Rising Sons, and give some green troops some experience. Have 10 veterans and 20 2nd generations accompany him. Have him work for us with lucrative enough terms that after 10 years he'd want this business alliance to continue rather than bugger off and do his own thing. Farther down the line, someone from his line would make a great planetary governor for any planet we take under our control, *cough*Norgrim*cough*.

Let's drop Waldorf and his mistress, Statler, off at home and hopefully he's intimidated enough to for get this whole ordeal if we cover any damages to his property,, and tell him if he ever needs a certain heretic purged, just give us a call. That should keep him hushed up, no?

Lets jet off to Norgrim ASAP to try to save our techmarine. When we arrive, we'll have some stuff to deal with, hopefully before the warp storms set in.

Also, I'll see if I can archive this. I'll also save this post for the next thread if it gets ignored.

I think i'm the only one still around.

My only problem is most of our chapter could get lost in the warp storm. Guess it would be ok if we leave some escorts and marines behind to maintain our holdings if we do get trapped.

I'm around too. Would it really be that bad to let him wait out the warp storm? I mean it sounds harsh but I'd prefer to be in a position where we can start rescuing our brothers on Onyx.
