    82 KB Goblin Questan anyone? GoblinGM !!sCfPwF8cwEd 01/30/12(Mon)23:01 No.17743432
You are (insert name suggestion), Goblin. You have just become chieftain of your tiny tribe of 23. You stand over the smoking corpse of your previous leader and take in the horrified faces of your tribe.
Your previous Chief was an idiot. Humans drove you from your home and you have been on the move for weeks. Your people have become tired of running, and it is clear you are no longer being pursued. You, being an advisor, tried telling him this. He only became angry and slapped you, so you beat him to death with a torch.
True, you may have jumped the gun a bit, but what’s done is done and you have to think of what to do now.
There’s a road nearby, so you could try raiding a caravan if one even comes by you…
Or you can move deeper into the woods and try setting up a camp, possibly even a settlement…
Or you can always do something else…

Your tribe watches you with anticipation.

    Tribe population: 22 goblins
    5 fighters armed with slings
    10 fighters with improvised weapons
    5 fighters with stone spears
1 Shaman armed with a wooden club
Yourself, wearing a rawhide shirt and a short sword

    Supplies:
    1 day food and water

State an action, name yourself, and roll a 1d100.

You stare back at your tribe, thinking about what to do.

One of them opens their mouth, probably to ask you what you’ll do now, but you realize there is only one thing TO do.

    Dance.

You start poppin’n’lockin and proceed to dance your ass off to a tune only you can hear. You tribe looks around, confused, but this just fuels your dance. You drop onto the ground and begin doing one of those head-spin things. When you finally lose your momentum and slide to a stop you rest one hand under your head and the other on your hip.

After the complete confusion wears off your Shaman, Irontoe, approaches you and asks “If yer finished doing… that… wot we gon’ do now?”

You think both about moving deeper into the woods and about raiding a caravan. Perhaps you could raid a caravan first then try to find a place to camp? Decision making is pretty hard as it turns out. You respond to Irontoe after a few minutes and order him to start teaching the others magic.

“But none of them have the gift boss!” he tells you.

The rest of the tribe looks at you like you’re crazy.

    Now what?

(a side note on the shaman, Irontoe. His “magic” is fairly weak. He typically serves the tribe by acting as a doctor, but he can manifest some sparks to light a twig and a few other things, but most importantly, he is the only one know can read and speak the tongue of men.)

Well, first thing, raid a passing caravan. Lets see what our fighters can do.
Have our goblins lines up along the road, the 5 with slings and 5 with spears on one side, and the other ten on the other side. Have the shaman stay behind us. Wait for something vulnerable looking (traveler or caravan) to pass by. If we can take them on, have our slings fling rocks, and yell to have your men on both sides charge and overwhelm them.

“Irontoe,” you start, “I meant for you to teach them the words of man, we will need to know it to be strong. I have faith in you. Check everyone for the gift again, just to be sure, one day we will be powerful and with your help we can make that day come to us sooner.”

Irontoe looks at you in a strange fashion, perhaps a look of respect? He nods to you and turns to the tribe to search for potential in them. You look at the corpse at your feet and laugh. After a few minutes you order the tribe to get ready for a fight. All of you head to the road you passed not too long ago, and set up an ambush. 5 slingers and Speargobs on one side of the road, the rest of them on the other, you order them to wait to attack until you give the signal. Some of them don’t hide themselves well and you yell menacingly at them. After everyone is settled, you and Irontoe hide with the speargobs and wait.
    And wait.
    And wait.

Finally around midday, you hear whistling coming from the bend in the road. You tense up as a single cart, drawn by a horse turns the corner. The man riding the cart is dressed in fairly good quality clothes and has a sword on the bench next to him. He seems oblivious to your presence. You prepare to order the ambush when Irontoe whispers to you: “I smell magic boss!”

    Proceed with the attack anyway?

(note that this isn’t taking place in an established setting, mainly because I don’t wanna mess up something and have everyone call me out and laugh at me.)

You nod at Irontoe in acknowledgement and use the signal, which consists of just screaming bloody murder at the human. Stones start flying from the woods, but mostly soar over the cart. You hear a few yells. It seems some of the goblins on the other side of the road were hit.

But you aren’t worried because you’re charging at the cart.

A goblin wielding a club gets there first and while the horse is still panicking he bites the horse’s rear right leg. It seems his teeth did some damage because the horse trips and collapses on the ground, still alive, but not for long as it is swarmed by goblins like bees swarming a bear. The human leaps off the cart, and cuts down one of the spear gobs as he lands. Another volley of stones fly overhead, this time mostly bouncing off the cart. You rush forward waving your sword in what you hope is a terrifying manner and he takes up a defensive stance, back to the cart. He screams something at you.

    Your move.

You become angry. “Back off! I’ll finish this!” you yell and charge.

He tries to attack you, but his sword got stuck in the goblin a fraction of a second too long. You run between his legs, whirl around, and impale him on your blade. He twists around, jerking the sword from your hands in one final act of defiance. He raises his arm to strike you down when another volley of stones impact him, this time actually making contact with their intended target. You immediately order Irontoe to tend to the wounded and in a moment of clarity tell him to have one of your smarter goblins watch him work. You tell the others to search the wagon as you approach the human’s corpse. His clothes ARE very nice, so you quickly cut them to fit you. You pick up his sword, immediately noting it’s quality is far above your own sword’s and also find an amulet hanging around his neck. You look around for the goblin that attacked the horse. Three-tooth! That’s the one! You call him over to you and give him your old sword, saying he earned it. He leaps with glees and thanks you, promising to never let you down.

The search of the cart reveals several dozen furs and a few bundles of wheat, as well as the human’s backpack. Inside the backpack you find another set of clothes, a few trail rations, and a strange book.

After a short rest you divide the loot among the tribe to carry and butcher the horse and human. Irontoe come up to you with a report. “I’ve done all I can for the wounded, but we lost three in the attack. Two killed by the human, and one struck down by a stone.” He stops, cocking his head quizzically at you. “I smell the magic most strongly in the amulet, though I smell some magic in the sword as well, though I don’t know their enchantments at this time. The book also seems to be some type of self-help book for learning magic.”

You decide that it is time to set up camp. Being new to the area however, forces you to send out a few scouts while you move deeper into the woods. About an hour later, your scouts have returned and you decide to set up camp in a small clearing located by a stream. While the horse meat is prepared you take a brief look around that area and find very little of interest besides a cave in a nearby cliff face.

When you return to camp the goblins are going wild in excitement, greedily gorging themselves on the horse meat. You start to become angry, but it seems Three-tooth has set aside a rather large portion of it. Another goblin tries to steal some from him, but Three-tooth smacks him with the flat of his new sword, loudly declaring that the meat belongs to the boss…

Irontoe stops you before you get a chance to eat and he explains to you that the book doesn’t contain any knowledge he didn’t already posses. He does note that it helped him improve his technique and he offers to try and discern the nature of your items enchantments.

While you chew on a chunk of the horse meat you tell him that you want him to take a party of himself and eight others to see what is in the nearby cave after he finishes eating. You look around for a suitable goblin for the amulet and zero in on Ryak. He’s the youngest of the bunch and just so happens to be the ugliest bastard that ever lived. He puts the amulet on when you ask him to and you almost instinctively flinch away from him. But nothing happens.

“I can smell the magic grow stronger when he wears it, but it will take time for me to learn what it truly does.”

You nod and allow him to study Ryak for the next couple of days. You also tell a few of the goblins that are trying to uproot the saplings to try and make some stone axes. One of them runs to the branch pile and starts looking for suitable handles, and the other runs towards the cliff-side to look for stones. Lastly, you order the goblins with the slings to set up a perimeter. The road is quite a long walk away, however if you want to send a goblin to watch it you can.

After about half an hour you spot Three-tooth returning. “That cave is a fair size. It could fit all of us if we squeezed in together. The good news is that whatever used to live in it was really messy. It’s filthy, dark, and damp. The floor of the cave is also dirt, so it would be a perfect place for a spawning pool boss.”

    You scratch your chin curiously…

A Spawning pool is the only way to make more goblin-kin. It has to be a filthy place tended by a magic user. It will make more goblins for you, and you have even heard stories of spawning pools used for making Orcs and Trolls, but that knowledge was lost to your tribe long ago…

If you guys enjoyed yourselves feel free to archive. Thanks for playing! Any comments, questions, or suggestions?)

I like where this is heading. It has potential, and ill be sure to check back in Thursday for this.

Curious question, how quickly does the spawning pool spew out goblins?

thats something ill have to work out mechanically but im thinking the flither the pool is and the more magic put into it the faster goblins will grow.
