    103 KB REBOOT: INFLUENCE THREAD 2 EGO !b0vpMZLBb6 02/05/12(Sun)14:24 No.17818018
    THREAD THE FIRST: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/17795386/

Summary: You are Westing, a supernaturally accurate musket. You are Patient, and the longer a person aims you, the more accurate you become for that specific target. You generate ammo and powder pre-loaded into your barrel when aimed and empty.

You have volunteered to help the Kingdom of Rust fight off the incursion from the Fae. Little is known of this foe. While the administration finds you a proper weilder, you in the care of a young scribe Ceran, who is relieved that you are not interested in her body, despite your light flirtation and offers of teaching so she may accompany you to the battlefield.

It is morning, and the young lady is presently snoring quietly in her bed. For now, what do you do?

You attempt movement. You only manage to fire, making Ceran leap out of bed with a knife in hand, only to stare at you.

    >>17818118
You now realize you were loaded, since you had been aimed last night.

    >Sup, baby, had a good night?

She stares for a moment, then laughs.
"Yes, I slept better than usual." she says, picking you up in her soft hands once more. "So, I've nothing to do today. Want to head to town?"

    >Yes. Do you have anywhere you'd like to go?

"I've a few ideas." she says, humming to herself as she works her hair into a bun. "I was thinking I'd give you a sort of tour of the city - show you around a bit." she says as she slides the hood up over her head, obscuring her face from view again. "And I need to buy a new robe - this hood's getting ratty." she adds, slinging you over her shoulders. "So, market, main square, or entertainment district first?" she asks.

You consider making a few jokes regarding phallic imagery and guns, but decide against it, finding it in poor taste.

    >Let us see to the market, first. I can wait on the more interesting parts of the city.

"I had a feeling you'd say that." she says, making her way through the halls. "Anything you want?"

    >Do you have everything needed to maintain a weapon of my caliber?

"We should." she comments, before checking a large, walk-in storage closet. She pulls down several tin containers, looking them over. "Yeah, this should do it." she says, picking up a few other cleaning devices. These she drops off in her room before making her way back towards the exit. She drops off the sheafe of papers she had written the last night, before making her way out.

The sun is bright, and low in the sky. The air is crisp and slightly chilly, and your holder smiles. "I love mornings like this." she comments, before moving along the cobbles. The city is clean, the first thing you note, and the humidity is at a comfortable level for you and her. The architecture is solid, if a bit fond of squares and right angles.

Time passes as you reach the market. A small crowd is here, and she mills among it looking for goods. A large statue of a young woman in leather holding a sword of rust, gauntlets on boh hands and a helmet on her head, stands over the market, holding the blade to point at the sky.

You note that not only is it a monument, it is an ingenious clock of sorts, the shadow moving the point at the hour.

    >>17819334
You are the one who chooses whether you fire or not. Misfires are impossible.

Your holder chooses an excellently dyed robe of very lustrous red, smiling to herself over an good bargain.

"Red is the uniform. It, uh... It's easier to clean up the testing chambers. When we use the convicts, you see." she says, nervously. "Argyle always did that himself, though. Something about preferring to clean up after himself." she says, letting out a quiet laugh tinged with nervousness. "Anyway. It's red or nothing." she says with a nod.

    >I see. I've been wondering - what is my status in the kingdom?

"Intelligent items are first-class citizens. I would put them on the same level as nobles - the Queen was adamant they be treated with kindness and respect, and we uphold that tenet." she says. "After all, it's not like they can move around or anything without help, with some exceptions. So we take care of them. After all, they helped defeat Sanguinus, the Orcs, and now the Fae. You might even say that they are the backbone of the kingdom."

    >Hrm. Is there any store that knows how to accessorize a weapon like me?

"I... no, not really. You're not exactly a common weapon. You're probably one of a hundred or so miniture cannons available. And you're the only magical one."

    >I see. May I see this place from above?

"Oh, sure. I know a place."

She ducks through the crowd, smiling to herself, until she reaches a tall watch-tower, clambering up a ladder inside with surprising ease despite her robe. At the top, you can see out, over the crowds. The size of the city is a little daunting, and a castle looms over it at its centre. High walls surround it, and the land outside it has been terraformed with trenches and other wartime constructions on one side. Still, it is a marvelous city.
"U-uhm, the view is nice, but it's a mite windy. Can we go down, now?" she asks, holding down her robe to keep the wind from flipping it up.

People started going missing, so we eventually were asked to take a look. We sent down a C-class - that stands for Convict - to go down. He, uh, didn't go back. So we asked the next to carry a simple pulsar -a magically greased stone that sent pulses we could read. The man went down four hundred flights, then vanished! We had a miner dig down and into the stairwell - but it was not even there! Argyle volunteered to look himself, but I convinced him, no, we need you for our country. We eventually sealed it off..."

You reach a building that is squat and square, near where you began. "Excellent, this looks like the place." she says, slipping inside, looking around. The building seems mostly committed to a clear area for target practice, one wall far off lined with targets, though it appears it's possible to move this low wall further and further back.

"Right." the woman says, taking aim. She circles slowly, along the range and the rooftops, taking careful, precise steps.

    Then stops dead.
"o-oh god." she manages. A creature stands on the roof, a small pillar of darkness. It looks humanoid, but too thin. "Oh god no." Five arms slide from its cloak of darkness, each weilding a wickedly curved knife. She aims at it, but her hands are shaky with fear as a sixth arm slides out, just as armed as the rest. She keeps losing aim on the creature, backing away in fear.

She takes aim, and you feel that ratcheting tightness again. The creature leans down and scuttles down to the range itself, Ceran maintaining the aim, and then finally, she pulls the trigger.

You fire, bullet flying forth and tearing through its veils as it rushes forth, three of its arms going limp as it swings with the other side. Ceran stumbles back, away from it, but it steps closer.

"Sorry!" she says, grasping your warm barrel in her hands, stock swinging around to slam satisfyingly into the creature's jaw. It screams, skittering away as she takes aim again. She doesn't take as long to aim this time, and the bullet glances away from the brain -but gouges out an eye as it skitters off to the roof. She aims again, but it vanishes from sight before she can fire again.

She drops to her knees in relief, holding you close, and breathing heavily. This has a profound effect on her chest that you feel against your barrel.

Why in hell do we need a scope or pod? Stability and focus dont matter to our accuracy, time is. If someone is visible, they are just as visible with a scope. And we correct our aim in flight, so no need to compensate for shaky hands. As long as we aim at someone, we get more accurate the longer we aim.

Remember how we had some issues getting a shot off at that Fae because Ceran's aim wobbled? We need to be held STEADY, the more the better, and I'm sure the importance of this increases vastly with range.

It sounds like we're loaded as soon as we're aimed. If so, we should be an exceedingly effective close-combat weapon as well; our accuracy will be limited by the skill of the user, instead of magically boosted, but that's not terribly important when we can fire as rapidly as our user can deliberately aim.

We could bet a chance to fire us a couple of times, but it's doubtful that if they win they'd want to try us, likely seeing us as an inferior weapon. But if we wager that and win, we can't exactly let them try us out, or the bet would've been useless.

Longbow just means it isn't a part of the recurve master race. You dont need to be considered 'top heavy' until you reach 175+ lbs of pull, and that is closer to a ballista.

Ceran ignores the multitude of squabbling and discussing tones as she takes to heart the singular advice you give. She aims carefully, stance slightly improved from before. As soon as Damien shouts the signal to fire, she pulls the trigger, and there is a sound like thunder.

"I... hit." she manages, as both the arrows find their mark near the centre, her own landing in the white space at the edge of the target.

Again they draw and again she aims, and again she fires - this time a little closer to the center. The five seconds simply aren't enough.
She takes aim for the final shot, and this time, her aim is true, her stance perfect, as she fires, a black dot appearing on the red centre of the target.

Ceran whoops as she jumps in the air - even the archers weren't able to manage that!
"So where we eating, boys~?" she asks playfully.

"Ceran, can I see that weapon of yours?" Damien asks, suddenly there.

I heard speaking about The Breaker before who was the only one to destroy magic weapons.
Maybe he is not breaking form, maybe he is breaking binds.

What if the magic weapons are made from the souls of convicts?
It might explain why there are so many who are lewd in nature (not that lewdness is bad in itself, but it might be due to poor self-control, which can lead to being a convict as well).
