You and Caramel begin to move forward, a loud hiss suddenly emanating from your right. You feel a hand grab your arm and pull you back as Caramel yanks you to safety just as a massive tail cracked the ground where you had been only moments before.

A snake daemon rose up, its bioluminescent underbelly catching the steam around it, breaking apart its outline a bit.

"Exalted Martyr! Be cautious! We must strike with precision! Wasted effort could end in wasted life."

She fired up her jump pack and charged, hitting it with a blast from her sonic pistol, stunning it before following up with her sollex blade, shearing off some armor near its neck.

I'm new, but I guess I'll contribute

I raise my sword vertically over my head, saying a quick prayer before I strike.

"Blessed Emperor, steady my aim and give me strength. May my sword cleave my foe, and spawn of darkness fear your very name!"

I strike down vertically against the stunned daemon's head with the strength of my faith in the emperor!
>> His Divine Wrath 02/10/12(Fri)20:21 No.17890152
The snake daemon managed to recover a bit before the blade hit. It swerved hard, the blade missing it only chipping its thick, bony head armor.

Hissing in annoyance, it lashed back, trying to bite into your torso. You barely avoided it.

Praising the emperor, Caramel lashed out again with her blade, cutting off the end of its tail. The snake daemon turned from you, focusing its attention on the sister who injured it.
>> Anonymous 02/10/12(Fri)20:43 No.17890382
"Do not lose heart, the Emperor protects those that have faith in him! May his steel blind those that do not deserve sight!"

I charge forward pass the snake's head, clawing the snake's eye. Then I quickly turn around and stab the other eye with my sword!
>> His Divine Wrath 02/10/12(Fri)21:07 No.17890604
The snake turns to face you, but much too late. Your power claw hooks deeply into they eye socket. It screams and thrashes about as you attempt to stab its other eye but to no avail. It manages to throw you, black ichor streaming down its face.

Caramel takes the opportunity to blast it again with her sonic pistol, making it shrink back and slam into one of the pipes, increasing the amount of steam, making it harder to see.
>> Anonymous 02/10/12(Fri)21:43 No.17890951
taking the steam as an inspiration, I watch the snake flail a bit, waiting for the right opportunity. At the first opening, I charge forward with my sword to stab the reminding good eye.

I then think of fire. Burning, cleansing fire. Enough fire to cleanse any taint of chaos. Enough fire to enter through my sword, through the snake's eye and burn it from the inside out.

For this, because I know I'm rather tapped out on psyker power, I try to rely on my faith in the Emperor for this. I reach back into my memories, thinking back to when I was a child, praying at the alter with Tessa, thinking about how sweet the incense smelled, listening to my superior on how fire cleanses chaos from the unclean. Then I flashed to the day I discovered Tessa, with her eyes out. How I wish I could have made her feel clean again!

As I refocus into reality, time resuming, I channel my emotion into my faith. For my strength comes from not my Emperor-given psyker gifts, but from the Emperor himself! For this is no mere psyker fire, but cleansing fire of the Emperor himself.

I mutter only one word, filled with contempt of the unclean. "Burn"

Your sword strikes true, the snake screaming as you force the wide blade thorough bone and some armor into the eye socket. You weren't able to completely run the creature through, but it was enough.

The force blade crackled with holy light as divine power filled the snake, arcs of energy scattering across the walls.

When the light dimmed, all that remained of the snake was the smoking husk of its armor and a horrible acrid smell.

Caramel took a few seconds before putting her weapons away, hesitating once more before attempting to help you dislodge your sword as it was now quite stuck in what remained of the creature's skull.

"...That was spectacular... I truly am unworthy of your company Exalted one..."

Despite your best efforts otherwise, using that much power had worsened your headache, though it was not as bad as you expected.

You had just managed to retrieve it when you noticed some scratching coming from the vents.
>> Anonymous 02/10/12(Fri)22:19 No.17891372
oops, maybe I used a little too much zeal ;)
As I pant in exhaustion, I tap Caramel's shoulder to alert her to the vents. I also as her to join me as I softly sing the Hymn of Soothing and Regeneration, to quickly lessen my headache and quickly rebuild my strength. At the same time I reach for the Emperor's vision to see what's coming.
As a general trend, I'm trying to move away from psyker powers to faith based powers to limit tapping out on psyker powers and to prepare us for a probably faith-based boss fight
>> His Divine Wrath 02/10/12(Fri)22:46 No.17891714
>>17891372

Your hymn soothes your headache a bit... or at least distracts you from the pain.

Caramel turns toward the sound, one hand on her sollex blade.

You were just about to activate your witch sight when the cover of the vent popped off, the dead, thrashed remains of some sort of spikey, arachnid like daemon spilling out onto the floor, followed almost instantly by a familiar face.

"I got bored of waiting so I came to find you!"

It was Filigree. Caramel visibly relaxed. The daemonette didn't have her lightning claw and was wearing carapace armor instead of the power armor you had seen her in last.

"I was attacked by one of these vent things but when I tried to see where it came from my armor wouldn't fit so I left it upstairs and found some new armor."

She pulled herself out completely, clapping her hands.

"There's this big squishy warm thing in the central air pump thingie! It would be so nifty if these things didn't keep crawling out of it and trying to claw my face off!"
>> Anonymous 02/10/12(Fri)22:53 No.17891792
I sigh in relief. "Thank the Emperor for a respite. Close the vent and give me a sitrep on the other team. I need to rest for a second," as I fly to a safe spot, lean against the wall and slide down to a sitting position.
>> His Divine Wrath 02/11/12(Sat)00:41 No.17893005
You take a few minutes to catch your breath, the steam quickly slicking your hair and wetting your armor. You aren't sure how much time has passed when you realize Caramel is shaking your shoulder.

"Exalted one. We should move on. It's not safe here..."

At least your headache is a little better.

Here you go.

The pump system is a fluid pump system. You havn't discovered the vent pumps yet.

Also because I forgot to mention, the air pumps are indeed already on. They're just on low. Otherwise it would be almost too warm to survive.

ok, so the first priority is to regroup with the rest of the team, since we were dangerously weak against the snake deamon we just beaten.

Second, we need to learn what they discovered.

so the first question is are we at the red star, and which direction did the second team go?

Also, can we contact the second team on vox?
>> Anonymous 02/11/12(Sat)17:08 No.17901036
>>17900606

we JUST split up and OP just gave us Filigree who is, if I recall, a very good evasive meatshield. Especially since these daemons, while well armored, don't seem to be *that* fast.

well at least not as fast as a daemonette.

I say we press on as is. The rest of the team will be fine. OP is good about ensuring that our allies are of good quality and don't "need" us or risk utter destruction. They can handle the machines on their own.

And yeah, we're the red star.

I dunno about the vox. We can try again. Last time though we couldn't get through because of the concrete. I would guess they would have to be one room over for communication to work.

>>17901036

If you say so. That snake was a bit well too armored and we used a bit too much psyker power for my tastes. Hopefully he was mini-boss of some kind.

We ask Filigree if there is anything else we need to know. We then reach out to our vox to the other team for their status. Then we open the door in the room.

>>17901248
Which room are we in currently?

Also, I recommend that we investigate the other side of that pit of death, with us carrying Filigree over to the other side.

Just so that way we know if there's anything important enough to warrant the bonesingers building us a bridge.

Yeah, checking out the room we are in would be the best to start with. Especially that fleshy growth thing, and the door we haven't opened yet.

Let's start there before we go anywhere else.

Also, that snake deamon- you think it's that thing we saw in the last thread?
>> His Divine Wrath 02/11/12(Sat)18:48 No.17902194
(i'm on the IRC now if you need me)

You take a deep breath, trying to relax a bit as you approach the door. The fleshy growth gave a little under your power armor, but there wasn't much special about it. It was, however, a bit slippery.

Filigree poked her head over your shoulder. "I bet this is what that hive thing is made of. By touching it we'll probably be giving our position away... Or at least giving the knowledge that there is SOMETHING here. As long as we don't actively damage it the god wont be able to tell us apart from a wandering remnant... maybe... probably..."

Caramel examined the door closely. "It seems like the substance has covered the door's opposite side. Pushing though shouldn't be too difficult, however. We will loose any element of surprise though."

You focus your witch sight through the door, but you couldn't see much. Mostly static.

You glance at Filigree, addressing her.

The Daemonette paused, looking thoughtful. "Well... Honestly Eden might be better to ask... But the realm itself is nothing like this. The PALACE though. Thats a different story. It doesn't look organic per say... well not most of it... But the structure..." She frowned, mumbling something in a language you couldn't even begin to comprehend.

"Your language is terrible! So inexpressive!" She thought for another moment. "The palace is its own entity... Its not alive but it... it..."

She crossed her arms. "Ugh... I can't explain it. But this realm is similar in a lot of ways as is this substance... Also aren't we going to have to cross into the hive anyway? I mean... That's where the chaos god is. Access to the hive is what we came down here for. Shouldn't we go for it?"

Just to let you guys know, since the Chaos God will know our presence after we kick the door down, I say we want to change our play style from subtle to more faster and firepower based.

My ideal team would be:
Elizabeth - for area-of-effect flamethrower
Farseer - for expertise in the warp
Techpriest - for technical knowledge
The Saint - least subtle form of firepower
Alessa - for multimelta armor-piercing goodness
>> Anonymous 02/11/12(Sat)22:30 No.17905238
Just more of my thoughts:

First get the tech priest to a console to see if he can pull up any useful information or advantages

Get the tech priest and farseer examine the door to see if we can open it without alerting the chaos god. If not (most likely), then we do standard breaching procedure. The saint kicks down the door while Elizabeth and Alessa stand in firing position to blast any potential threats (cloaked by either me or the farseer as a precautionary measure)

Afterward, we'll move efficiently in a reasonable marching order, with the Farseer and/or I with psyker vision on and the Techpriest on passive scan to avoid surprises as much as possible (we'll need to do this to avoid falling in ambush or traps because we're moving so fast). We also tell the techpriest to lookout for any useful tech or environmental advantages we can use.

The door opens with a well placed kick, the fleshy substance tearing.

The room is of a decent size. The floor is made of steel plate and grating. There is a large fleshy mass in one corner and slimy pods in two others.

The lighting is terrible, the organic growth having covered most of the ceiling and walls, though it didn't seem to cover much of the floor. Perhaps it couldn't find purchase.

The floor had several holes in it where some acidic substance may have eaten through. Or maybe they had decayed naturally from normal wear and tear.

The stench of rot was heavy in the air and the room was filled with a constant low clicking sound.

There were three doors. The one to the north was already covered in organic matter.

Caramel drew her weapon, looking around nervously. Filigree was staring at the pods nearest you.
