    Spider Quest time!

Sup/tg/ contains the earlier threads under the spider quest tag.

You are a little female jumping spider named Bibi currently living inside a hole in a tree, with your mate Dorpou, your eight young siblings, your newborn brood of spiderlings and your pet centipede Isaac.
In addition to your family, the hole also is a home for old spider named Ranou, who agreed to let you stay there, a honorable warrior ladybug named Andor and a light headed parasitic wasp you befriended and named Chyrsi "Bubbles" McTitty.

In the last session you continued your search for food and managed to catch two waterstriders with fishing net.
After bringing them home, you talked with your new wasp friend about any information about the surrounding wilderness, and then requested that she would fetch some seeds for you.

After sending her on her way, you consulted Ranou about web building, and asked for his help in your scarecrow project.
He agreed to help you with the best of his abilities, and he also provided useful tips for web making, thus reducing the protein cost of all your silk structures by 5 (stuff that costs 5 units normally will still consume 1 unit of proteins.).

Your peaceful existence was disrupted by the walking gods and their loud contraptions. It seems that the spider god favored you however, for the foul noisy beast was struck down, and the giant using it left in anger. You and Andor went to investigate the broken machine, and found 3 bits of metal.

On your way back, you saved Bubbles carrying the seeds you requested from a ravenous dragonfly in a daring interception mission, and you even managed to capture and bring it to your nest. After long negotiations, you finally managed to pressure the flier to work for you.

You are currently at the entrance to your nest inside the tree hole. Andor is feeding the aphids with leaves, the dragonfly is still passed out, Dorpou is watching over your brood, Ranou is chilling in his web and Bubbles is hovering above the water pit.

    >How this works.
Suggest an action and then depending how feasible it is, the spider will act.

You are just an ordinary spider in moder day earth. You have no special powers, other than your intellect.

Making silk costs proteins, which you can restore by eating. Your mate has his own protein reserves. You both have currently 95% if your reserves.

You can upgrade your nest with silk.Your nest currently has the following improvements:
    >Small rudimentary web nest:
    >Storage chamber
-40 units of food, 3 chitin plates, 3 metal shards.
    >8 slingshots.
    >Trap webs near the base of the tree.
    >Aphid pen.
    -5 aphids.
    >Warning web at the entrance to the tree hole and warning lines.

You also need to feed your family.
Your siblings, brood and Isaac combined require 15 units of food per day. They are fed for this day however. You and Dorpou require 4 units of food combined.

What do will you do next?

We still have the metal fragments from the lawn mower, correct? Maybe we can see if they are sharp enough to cut the chitin plates. If not, we should search for a rough stone to sharpen them with.

Also, do we recognize the fliers? As in what species they are? I want to know if our dragon fly had "friends" that might be looking for him.

Huh. I poked my head around the board and I see several other quest threads that have the suptg links in them made within the past few days. That is really odd that you were banned for it. Tell Bubbles, for the love of the great Spider Queen in the Sky, do not get close enough to aggro them. Just get in range for identification. If it looks like they will get angry and attack, bug out. If they start chasing her, try and loose them. If she can't loose them, fly by the tree opening so we can see she is in trouble and help, but DO NOT COME IN. We can't let them know this is our home base if they are hostile.

Actually, do we have flier nets set up yet? We could have Bubbles lead them into those for food/safety.

Yeah, but of the wrong discipline. If you wanted to, I don't know, use that battery to start a fire and heat a boiler and generate energy through the phase change of water to steam I might be of use. Other wise, the only thing I can think of for it (at our scale) is to make heat/fire whenever we want by shorting it with wire/metal. I mean, don't get me wrong. Burning shit is cool and all, but I feel that is a waste of its potential. If we had any Chem-Es on hand, there is alot of fun chemicals in there to work with.

Also, we need to set up some flyer traps around our base. Basically air nets we can lure enemy flying units into. Until we get our dragon fly mount up and operational, we are very weak against flying units.

Train our flying bros to dive towards them as if escaping and then change directions at the last second while the enemy goes straight into the web. We are probably going to need the elder spider's help with this.

Also, we have a couple shards of glass in there. They would make excellent cutting tools. We can just hit the edges with something hard and break off small slivers ala obsidian arrows. They should all be razor sharp to boot, if a bit fragile. The big sections would make excellent test beds if we are going to start playing with chemicals since it tends to be fairly inert.

You give your cryptic opinion to the council.

    Ranou:
"Your mind moves sharply, little one, yes, the way to combat this threat is one of cunning."

    Andor:
"Honorless fight... against foe that outnumbers us. But one can't fight honorably against those without honor anyways. I agree, we must lay a trap for them, if they seek to blunder our domain."

Before we go diplomancing, we need to get our base set up. Here is a list of things that have been suggested and more or less agreed upon:

1). Bird Scarecrow (1 week plus to build)
    2). Flyer traps/nets
    3). Finish our plate armor

    Suggested, but no consensus

    3). Flying Lances
4). SCIENCE! with the fungal spores and electricity
5). Making knives from the glass chips

    I suggest we get multitasking.

The bird is a major project that will take massive resources to complete. I suggest we take sit down with Ranou and tell him what we need to have him work on for that. He can just do it in the background in between other tasks. Same with Andor and the others. Basically we will need leaves for feathers and sticks to help support the bones. If they see some on their travels, grab it and bring it back.

The traps should be a priority, but we need to keep them non-discript. I would recommend having a giant drop down net for the opening. We build it and keep it tied to the ceiling. If we are about to have flyers rush the nest, we can drop it and catch them before they get in. I would have Ranou and Dorpu start working on this with our oldest siblings immediately.

Take some time before we leave to finish our plate armor. Once we have that figured out, we need to make some for Dorpu and Bubbles (if she can handle flying with it). They both will need some extra padding given the situations we tend to get into.

Before the pow-wow ends, ask Andor if he would be alright with get a lance mount. We don't HAVE to do it this second, but I would recommend having it before we do any more scouting.

Glass shards can be done at any time, but I would put Dorpu on it as soon as he finishes the entrance net. Preferably with an older sibling. More hands = faster = more knives. If the armor needs more of a fine touch when cutting, we can stop and try making the glass knives at that point.

SCIENCE! with the battery can wait, I think. But that is just like my opnion man.

    What do you guys think?

    And that's all folks!

A little shorter than usual, but what can you do. I had other business to attend, so I couldn't start this up as early as I would have liked.

As usual, any feedback is appreciated.

The next session will be next Saturday, around 10-14.00 server time.

And someone requested that I'd draw Bibi helping Bubbles untangle her antennae earlier in this thread, so here it is.

See you, and thanks. It warms my cynical heart to know that this thing is appreciated.
Also, thanks to the anon who archived this thread!

I'd normally cry for moar in the form of 24/7 Spider Quest, but looking forward to these threads every week makes them extra special and so much more enjoyable.

I hope /tg/ never manages to scare you off. I really wish we had more people like you on the board.

I don't know how the other drawfaggs got scared of, but I doubt that you will be able to shoo me away.

These are the only threads I use some sort of title, in other threads I am always simple anon, so I really don't draw much attention to myself.

I was actively drawing in the mundus carnis/gieger verse threads before Christmas, and I did few pics to the post apocalyptic robot setting that occasionally pops up here.
I was also in those two Bionicle threads last week.

Overall, I really don't see how I could be driven out, as there is really nothing to even drive out. I have no trip, and my art isn't really recognizable enough, so I think that I can avoid the worst of those troglodytes that like to harass drawfags.

I am interested in what your art looks like (when you aren't having to rush to keep us entertained). I will have to go look these threads up. Anyway, enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Here is an example, from the Mundus Carnis threads.

Overall, it is simply more detailed. I suck at coloring stuff, and I can't say that I am very good at drawing people either.

Here is another one I did last summer, to one of those /tg/ factions of 40k. Enshrouded, was the name of the dark eldar group we were fluffing out.
This is one of the few pics I have actually colored.

AWWWWWWW, I missed the quest! I'm happy to see that Bibi is turning her nest into a Nexus to make spider zealots and observers.

What do you use to draw with?
    >> Spider Quest OP 02/18/12(Sat)21:13 No.18005521

That was done with artweaver, but I am currently mostly using Sai. It is somehow smoother.

Interesting style, I like it. Your work has a very energetic, sketchy feel to it, which is serves as a contrast to all the details you throw into it. I think it might help to add more contrast to your line art though. Things get a little hard to read in

    >>18005119

because the values are so close.

As a fellow anonymous drawfag, I find it fascinating to see other people's stuff. My own stuff tends to be very slow and often overdrawn. Thanks for sharing OP.

    My pleasure.
Thanks for the input, I really should learn how to use the lineart tools better. I know that my stuff gets often very unclear in the tiny detail mess.

But anyways, thanks again for all of you, but I really need to hit the bunk now, it is almost 4.30 am here in Finland, and I don't want to sleep the whole Sunday.
