    103 KB REBOOT: INFLUENCE THREAD 6 EGO !b0vpMZLBb6 02/19/12(Sun)14:56 No.18015463
    (( OLD THREADS: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Influence ))

    You are Patience.

You have come to admit that. You're not Westing, as you had been told before - Circumstances have revolved. You are the Fae of Patience, lobotomized of memory, and shoved haphazardly into a rifle. You attempted to find the Wrongness in the human Capital city, but it overwhelmed you - and the humans caught you. Your friends, Argyle and Ceran, were forced to either slay you... or use you.

So they used you. In order to keep Patience alive, they erased his memory, and dismantled his humanoid form.

As Patience, your shots become more precise over time when aimed at a target. You've several other abilities, inherited from Fae you have killed. Higher accuracy in darkness. A much denser wooden body. Humans, too, have made modifications to your current body. A bipod for stability, a scope for longer sight. You can shoot whenever you like, and ammo is replenished automatically in-barrel.

    ((Cont.))

Humanity and Fae are at war, but it is a shallow war. A wrongness that all Fae feel resides in the human Capital city. The Fae are driven to find it, and destroy it. Multiple communication failures, timely assassinations, circumstances... All have coalesced to keep humans and Fae at war.

Someone, or many someones, are pulling the strings.

Ceran sighs as she places the urn atop the bookshelf in Argyle's office. She no longer wears the red robes of a Scribe. Instead, a cloak of earthy colors with many leafy-green and yellow-green streamers falls from her shoulders. It's wide enough and long enough that if she squats, it hides her completely. The hood is down and the cloak behind her shoulders now. She picks up the book that Argyle had written in. That Argyle had written the truth in, even as the fire ate his body.

She picks you up, looking out the window. It's noon.

    What do you do?

At the risk of sounding incredibly cliched, we might want to see if we can find anyone else who's particularly knowledgeable about the the Archmagi or the Fae; either some sort of person who's had successful and nonlethal contact with the Fae hierarchy, and/or a person who's well-learned in the history surrounding the Archmages.

Right now, we know that something is out there manipulating the war between the Fae and Humans, either to draw attention away from the imperfect seals on the remaining Archmages, or for some other purpose. Right now, we need to come up with a good enough sales pitch to Fear so that he and the other Fae will be willing to consider that there are people out there who are inciting this war to their own ends and to everyone else's detriment. Of course, Fear may even be in on this, as the two voices we encountered earlier in the last thread said something about "not needing" us (Patience) or Fear anymore.

She jumps a little, at hearing your voice.
"P-patience. I thought..." she shakes her head. "Sorry. There might be someone. My instincts tell me we can trust him. There's just one problem..."

    >Yes?

"He's abroad right now. Orion. He's a Collector - an Agent who acquires magical items. Last I heard he was across the sea."

    >That does present an issue.

    >>18015826
You think to yourself, that perhaps there is someone among the Fae fitting that - the only human who could claim expert knowledge is dead, as far as you know.

    >Ceran, was there anyone who had the same level of knowledge as Argyle on the Archmagi or the Fae?

"...Not that I know of. He was the only one..."

I think Fear is as ignorant as anyone else. But he does matter, and truths can be gleamed from speaking with him. The manipulators on this side may be a mystery, but the one continuing war on the feys end is War itself. Such as his nature demands, of course... It may be important to meet with Fear before the assigned time, to avoid Wars further interference. Any idea on how to do that?

If there is anything we learned from Argyle we still haven't told her, we should share it with her now. Not like there is anyone else we can fully trust.

We need more allies than one guy who isn't here. Ceran, who would you trust to be on your side if not with our secrets? Damien and his sons, some of the people you worked with... anyone else?

On the other hand, 2 + 2 = Ceran loves us, old body specifically. Go in it, but I dont plan on staying. Also, we should ask Fear to collect it, he'd keep it safe and might have a way to hide it for later use. If not, at least the fae don't want to experiment on it.

    It wouldn't hurt to try.

That's what you think when your soul slides into the body like an old set of clothes. Comfortable. Snug. Perfect. Old memories rush to the fore.

    ---I'm sorry!--

-This is what must be done...-

----Remember! Six seals! Six cities! Six centuries!----

---Ever since we met, I haven't been able to stop staring into your eyes. It's so strange...---

-You can't be serious! That contradicts everything in our history.-

-----Brother. Are you certain they will listen?-----

    >What am I, if not Patient? They will hear my words.

    -This is insane!-

    ---No! I can't do it! I won't!---

...But it's all a mess. A wild storm. There's no way to sort what happened when. There's no way to know!

Your eyes open, and you jerk up a bit. Ceran had been watching you. A robe sits atop your body, a deep, deep earthy brown. You feel more... whole.

As a Fae, you realize that you cannot truly die - you will merely reform in your birthplace.

The exception is when you are killed by another Fae, and your essence is consumed. In this case, your power will add to theirs. Fae must not feast too liberally - to do so can drive one mad. Finally, your powers are different. Patience is overriding of all things - the further you deliberate and scheme, the more certain you are of the outcome, good or bad. The other powers - strength in darkness, and power over fury - also sit within you.

"H-how is it?" Ceran asks quietly.

Didn't work that way before, either we fully swap souls with someone, or they just become more patient. We're looking at a body without a soul, so unless we go fully in I doubt much is happening. And the soul in the gun seems important, we make the gun accurate, Ceran make explosive bullets. I think no soul = normal gun.

However, upon some testing, the power you gave it is gone. And injecting more of your self into it makes you own body feel sluggish, heavy - like your clothing is too heavy. And even with a distrubution of half and half, the power is less in both. You feel a frown draw your lips.

If you would note from the histories, the Fae pulled all of their diplomats from the human kingdoms.

We, Patience, were not here as an official diplomat of the Fae, we had no diplomatic credentials, our mission was NOT recognized by the other Fae, and by the sounds of it other Fae were vocally against any idea of negotiation with the humans.

So the High General's actions, while rash, are backed up by years of precedent. And not helped at all at the time with Patience babbling incoherently.

First, it seems the people here are designated uniforms by color. Scribes are red, researchers are white, and archivists are brown. You ponder whether your past self arranged this, or if it's a happy accident. Shrugging, you set yourself to work on researching seals.

Most seals work by turning natural magic against the one being sealed - this means that most humans are practically immune, but Fae and the like are especially weak. Most seals are powered by this inversion, as well - a self-feeding loop of energy that holds back the sealed one with torrents of energy. It's said to be quite painful.

More powerful seals are created by 'divine arrangement', that is, natural flows of power for the seal to feed on. Rivers are presented as an example, as are valleys and ocean trenches. Such 'divine arrangements' coat the planet - various things like lined up trees can produce similar, if much weaker effects, and even roads can as well. Circles work about as well as intersections for different sealing arrays.

    Something about this worries you.

The power is more powerful when it comes from major natural features, but the power needs an intersection to form the seal. So it's likely that the cities themselves are the seals' intersections, and that the surrounding areas of any seal cities have large lines of trees, roads, rivers, and the like coming into contact with them somehow.

Like an equator. That sounds like an amazing "divine arrangement" to power six cities serving as equatorial seals.

The equator isn't a real line, though. It isn't actually any kind of seal/ The purpose of that location is to be as far from the magical poles as possible.
    >> Anonymous 02/20/12(Mon)02:30 No.18023381
    You think for a moment.

The entire city is a circle. You know that there are six gates into the city, though four are closed at the moment. This means six roads. The Archmagi chambers sit in the center of the city and has six entry points as well. Further, the division of the town by the major roads are also further divided into rings by more roads.

Finally, you know that all human cities rest on the equator. But...

Wait, isn't the Breach on the equator as well? You recall that very well, it sits along that line some ways to East, you believe.

    You think a bit harder.

    >>18023055
    Of course.

If the Fae break the walls and tear apart the city, then the 'divine arrangements' would fall apart. It only makes sense. The humans can't sense the wrongness because they are not magical. But Fae can - and the closer you get to the center, the stronger the seal gets - and the worse the wrongness becomes.

    The only question now is....

What do you do with this information?
    >> Gray 02/20/12(Mon)02:31 No.18023395
We should do a quick survey of maps, and check which human cities have a similar geographical set-up to the city of rust.

Once Fear shows up, see if there is a Fae of Speed, or Travel or something, and have him check all cities matching the geographical pattern for their own "wrongness".

If there are 5 other cities that fit both of those, then bam, we've got our six cities. If not, well, it's a lead at least.

We need to find Ceran, let her know what we found.

And Fear needs to be told to stop this idiocy from continuing any further. The Fae would release the Archmagi because of their ignorance and stupidity.

Stupid fucking Fae, no wonder they couldn't appreciate Patience.

I do it all the time.

The wrongness is the seals. Makes sense. We need to see what cities were made around the same time as this one, and refer to magical theory for the significance of 6, it's becoming disturbingly common.
    >> Gray 02/20/12(Mon)02:59 No.18023730
Could we construct a less powerful but bigger counter seal, that radiated magic outward, surrounding the entirety of each seal pattern, thus eliminating the wrongness to the fae when outside of that city? Sure, they'll have to deal with it if they want to visit a human city, but that's like going to a city normally, you know you're going to have to put up with uncomfortable shit.
    >> EGO !b0vpMZLBb6 02/20/12(Mon)03:04 No.18023777
You snap the book shut and sigh. Ceran isn't anywhere to be found, yet, and Fear isn't actually due for a while. So there's nothing for you to do here.

You ask for a map of the other cities, and find that there are seven human cities. One is independant of the Rust Nation, the others all rest on the equator. It appears that this style of city - a large circle with tiers - is used throughout the empire. It's unnerving.

As you walk out of the library, you notice a prescense behind you. A black robe - you'd never seen that before.

A second one joins him. And a third. A fourth steps out of another. Their cloaks are all held in place with a blood-red rose pin.

Finally, a fifth appears, putting down his hood. It's Damien's youngest son, who holds up a small crossbow.

"We'd like you to come with us, sir." he says quietly.

We can't leave our body for long, but at least we can make it quick. Pretty handy, actually. We just have to wait until we can sit down

    >>18023972
While worrisome, there is the outside chance that these people are on our side. Or that we can convince them to help more than hinder. If neither of those, then at least we should wait for a while before taking action. Remember what we are, after all.
