What actually happened in the stories, was that some Norse guys, who had the settlement named Skeggi in Lustria,
after stealing some gold from a nearby lizardmen shrine,
suddenly had a HUGE FUCK TON of lizardmen standing around their village the next day.
after deciding to throw all the gold back over the walls, the lizardmen only picked up a plaque, before swiftly dissapearing in the jungles once more.

If the PCs somehow find an idol or some Slann-Gold, start giving subtle hints that something is wrong, water turning to blood, vermin crawling out of food just when PCs take a bite, every now and then they should hear a low drum sound in the distance (Jumanji style). Make the idol (if idol) change facing every now and then so it looks at specific PC (preferably the one who took it). Induce fevered dreams. At some important point of a session, have the idol start glowing and let the drums beat much higher than before, along with this, make a massive jungleswarm-attack that cannot be won, only escaped, we are talking WALL of fucking snakes/lizards/toads.

tracks and signs of life so they know they're being watched and followed, but never any concrete sightings of the lizardmen. Then, after a few days, maybe someone disappears without a sign of a struggle, either from the back of the line when they're marching or from a tent at night. Rachet up the tension slowly, and make the attacks become deadlier and deadlier.
    >> Anonymous 02/21/12(Tue)16:50 No.18043854
Have an NPC or two trudge along.

One night, they are keeping watch for the party camp. One of them gets abducted, the other, horribly scarred, goes on a deranged rant about lizard-people.

During a party-trek along the area, they encounter all the dangers of the jungle - huge fucking liches, bugs, spiders, reptiles, poisonous plants and getting shat on by some birds.

Then, they finally get to the temple grounds, where they are met by the shrivelled, severed head of that NPC. A head, carried by lizardmen on a pole. Lots of 'em.

What could also work, is that they find a huge lizardmen city, completely overrun by the jungle.
Suddenly they hear scratching coming from under their feet.
Suddenly skaven from everywhere, they just arrived in Quetza

Make a Slann pull some really crazy (as in, your wizard won't be able to do anything like this for at least another 500 levels sort of crazy) magic. Causing an eclipse perhaps, or raising an entire mountain to block off any escape.

So, party gets captured by Skaven raiding party, kept as rations for underway back to Quetza. Halfway there, boom, mountain. Skaven get fucked over royally by lizardmen, party gets a good shock without instantly ruining any chances for some lizard-diplomacy later on. How about that?

If you want to rp a lizardmen I'd say a skink is your only option. Kroxigors are dumber than even ogres, and while saurus are quite intelligent, all that intelligence is focused exclusively on killing things as efficiently as possible. Having a character that's literally incapable of any interaction with others beyond hitting them over the head with a club doesn't make for interesting rp. Slann...might be a bit unbalanced.

Skinks are the only lizardmen that are capable of things like trade and social interaction with other species, and thus are the only ones suited to be rpg pc's.

Plus, skinks have the added benefit of Sotek-worship. Fuck yeah.

Aww shit, I love it, but...

    >Who holds back Kislev's Czars?
    >Who makes Karl Franz, a star!

We should use something different, with one more syllable perhaps (I don`t know how you pronounce "Czars")

    >Who rigs every Chaos Storm?

I would have loved a "world campaign", but I can't find something good that rhymes with it...

    Again, amazing work Joyce.

Oh no, I understand. I haven't seen someone use a special character in god knows how long and, even then, they usually aren't worth their points to play in a game that isn't 3,000 or some other crazy amount. When the last time you saw someone pick Vect over an Archon or Eldrad over a farseer when it wasn't a pure fluff army.

I mean, the last time I've actually used a SC is things in the Daemon army like the Changeling (considering he's 5 effin' points). I just felt like pointing out that our SC are overpriced.

The Battalion is a pretty good place to start. Don't add to the Temple Guard at-fucking-all and just working getting another block of Saurus, some more Skinks (and by some more I mean a fucking ton of skinks), a Slann, and Salamanders.

From there, either Scar Veterans or Chamo Skinks.

The 40k Slann are pretty much just really good fighters with really good guns and just as cold-blooded. Tacticals/GHs are your saurus, scouts/BCs are skinks, terminators are your temple guard, that sort of thing.

You want my honest opinion? Kroxigors (the big guys) and cavalry are on the bad end of the spectrum in terms of units. Slann in a temple bunker, saurus blocks, and skirmishing skinks are all good. Some salamanders and a stegadon or two gives you a solid core.

I've never played them, but they do have a huge number of poisoned attacks. I've actually thought of converting up some lobotomized Chaos Marauders to run as them (yes, some Slann do this to invaders).

Stay with the generics. It isn't that the SCs have bad rules, it is that they are severely over-costed. Kroq-Gar is 50 points less than Archaeon, and Archaeon is worth a good 100+ more points than Kroq-Gar.

    a couple other things
    - how all out should i go with upgrading my slann
    - for saurus warriors should i go spears or hand weapons?
    - for skinks what tends to do better the skirmishers or the basic spear throwers

Give him Cupped Hands of the Old Ones, and the Loremaster and bonus power die with each casting powers, then whatever you want.
I've found that sword and board is more points efficient right now than spears.
Skirmishers are better. The skink brick is funny if you throw 3 kroxigors in there, but it needs some support and just doesn't perform that well, since it is really easy to lose combat by 4 with WS/T2, 6+/6++ dudes, and Insane Courage is still pretty tough to get even with Cold-Blooded.

You can't convert lizardmen to 40K fluff because their older fluff actually includes 40K fluff. 1st Ed Fantasy roleplay used to have you run into shit in lustria like Amazons with laspistols and conversion fields.

-Depends on how many points you have. Focus of Mystery and Focused Rumination are pretty much givens to take, Stone Soul and Becalming Cogitation are good to take, too. Slaan are effective with little to no actual magic items, so a Cupped Hands of the Old Ones to bounce a miscast at the enemy and you should be good. Avoid the Regen power, since wards don't stack anymore.

-Hand Weapons. Spears are nice, but Saurus hit hard enough without them already, and the when compared, spears really shouldn't cost an extra point when Parry is free.

-Skirmishers. Speed for your Skinks. And being able to March and Fire is good. Rank and File with a musician are a decent replacement if you really are worried about the points, but you'll find that extra 6" makes a difference.

    somewhere between 2000-3000
    lord
slann mage priest (need to look at codex for upgrade list)
    heroes
    2x oldbloods hand weapon shields
2x skink priests staff (some magical thing i recal seeing in the upgrades)
    core
4x saurus warriors regiments, 20 lizards each, banner and musicians
2-4x skink skirmishers 20 lizards each
    special units
    temple guard x10 lizards halberds
depending on whats left over stegadon, salamanders, or both

    >The Loxatl use unique weapons known as flechette blasters, carried along with ammunition bandoleers on their torsos, and mounted on mechanical armatures that fire the weapons through a mind impulse device. This leaves a Loxatl's limbs free for climbing. The blasters fire deadly shot-bursts filled with millions of razor-sharp filaments that shred armour and cause grievous wounds in their target's flesh.

Blah, running space lizardmen is a waste when the Space Slann were so awesome.

More psychic than the Eldar, as tough as orks, the height of gretchin, with AI skimmers and tanks. Their troops armoured with forcefields, their heavy weapons are Beamers and D-Cannons.

And you want to throw that away for spacemarine proxied with saurus warriors.

I face Lizardmen player quite often recently, and I suggest this:
    Take more Salamanders!
Really, those things are murderous with their template attack, cause panic, and are extra effective in 8th edition, because of all those big blocks of infantry.
Take as many as you can.

    Modern Slann? Yeah.

The original slann in both settings were much thinner, able to walk on their own.
It was only when the Slann were combined with the lizardmen (who up until that time were separate and were more like random marauding monsters in the Old World) that they became the bloated creatures we know and love.
