    105 KB Civ thread #3 Voice of Reason-ish !fTZ7nIUxd2 02/22/12(Wed)22:38 No.18062118
You are the Amazolli. A tribe of LizardFolk banished from your home city of Zetharn. Over a year has passed since your banishment and your people have thrived, away from their imperialistic rule. You made your home upon this river, and here your gods have treated you well. You have made allies with the Dwarven people of the mountain. They construct weapons and tools for your people, while you provide them with protection.
The Forest to the East is unexplored and many of your people say it is cursed. None dare to even enter the tree line.

Last time: It was discovered that your old kinsmen from Zetharn sent patrols to attack you. A plan was made and an attack was set. There were many casualties on your side, but those do not compare to those of your enemies. The survivors were few and all were captured.

The tyrants of Zetharn know your people exist. War is at hand. Your people need their council, they need you.

The Forest to the East is unexplored and many of your people say it is cursed.

Mayhaps we should look to further armoring ourselves, for though our scales are strong, many of our kin perished to the weapons of the once-kin. This one is thinking we can use the bones of the fast-horned ones in the woods as asecond set of scales.

It would be free to expand and grow without danger of enemy attack, it would be wise to make it our Capital, and focus on its growth once we are able to sustain it. We should upgrade Architecture until we have proper defensive structures, and then focus on weaponry to protect ourselves further. Then we can focus on expansion, and taking more land.
Let us take the island, I will venture with you, I have a small band of Elven Archers from my homeland still loyal to me, and they would gladly fight for our cause, since I have disassociated myself with them long ago.

The children shall be sacrificed first, their blood and organs will be as sweet meats to our goddess, The Mother Who Devours Our Own. Then shall come the womenfolk, their eyes plucked from their eyes so that they may never know her beauty, their ears filled with wax that they may never hear her voice, and their tongues removed that they may never speak her name in vain. They shall have their bellies split open, their unfertilized eggs, children to never be, removed, one eaten by each of we, Her most blessed daughters, and the remainder placed upon Her altar. After their younglings have died and their bodies been made barren, they shall be slain, one at a time, on our goddess's altar, their dying screams a beautiful melody to our great and terrible mother. And our great mother, Coatliuitl, The Feathered Serpent, She Who Dwells Within the Mountain, The Giver and Destroyer, She Who Slumbers With Dreams of Kinslaying, will give our tribe her blessing and their tribe her curse. Her taste for her offspring's blood will be set upon them, and her favor upon us. Praise Coatliuitl! Praise The Feathered Serpent!

If they are among our hated brethren, the Zetharn blasphemers and betrayers of the Old Ways, then their sacrifices will be welcomed. Our mother goddess hungers most for the young and womenfolk for they are closer to Her. If they are not made in her image, sacrifice to her is meaningless. Their blood lost in battle would be a better reverence to Eztliamiqui, the Great Father, He Who Thirsts, opposite to the Mother.

Through? you misunderstand, I mean UNDER.
(though now that I think of it, drill/wind driven ships could hypothetically sail across sand like a boat would, so exploration above the sands would work too, and it'd be painfully efficient for shipping once we "sail" to the deserts edge)

Also, I really had no gauge on what our level of industrialization was, since oil would be no use to us I guess its about pre-steam engine then? Also there are usually large deposits of fresh water and not to mention the high quality iron ore that is usually found under that.

Anyway how about a settlement/fortress right where the mountains meet the sea? It'd give us some room to trade better with the lizardfolk and also open us up to exploration!

    But of course.

A1, B5b (Who knows what is to the south-east), and C...3

I figure we need to improve our tech all around, since it's almost assured the enemy will be bringing superior numbers. We need superior tech to make superior weaponry. As I said, we need to explore the river to the south west to see, well, what's there. Could be a gold mine, could be a hoard of goblins. As for the forest, if our people say it's haunted then it's probably got SOMETHING in it. Probably elves or monsters.

We ship massive amounts of land into the lake, to the point that we create gardens, islands, homes... We would be the masters of the land, living where we desire, not where we must.

Alternatively, we could live harmoniously with the land, by creating large platforms. The platforms would be hollow, and anchored to the ground, or perhaps to each other. It would require much more effort though, and I'm not sure we have the proper materials to do such a thing. Dried mud or clay would surely fall apart if used to accomplish this method.

We could build a cave system under the island or build a tower on it and have that be the start of a city. We could also build a fleet of boats that just allows go around the lake and have that be a city or build what amounts to houses on stilts that are strung together with bridges. Another possibility is we develope the traits to live beneath the water and move down there, with a constant presence of our people on the island and surrounding shores to keep an eye on what's above and keep in contact with the dwarves.)

Hmm, we could create a series of wooden platforms and link them together like puzzle pieces, They would be floated out into the lake and anchored by wooden post hammered into the lake bed, perhaps? The wood would expand in the water so, even if we were able to fit them into the spaces they wouldn't be able to move around once linked. The wood would rot with time though, and we would need a method to make the structures permanent. There are also issues with stability. A boat can tip and so can a platform.

Question though, is the average span of 40 based purely on statistics (So, war deaths drag that down.) or is 40 the average for lizardfolks that live a healthy, un-massacred life?)

Starving the prisoners? That does not bode well.
He Who Thirsts enjoy sacrifices that still smell of battle. Feed the prisoners their final meal, and we shall sacrifice them on the 'morrow. Combat trials should precede it. Prisoners who wish it shall be permitted to fight for their freedom.

That concession is not the norm, but we have let them rot for too long.

If we still need information from them, we can keep one or two locked away, but those left behind are lost as sacrifices to Him.

My vote was for A1, C3, and then I couldn't decide on what to do about exploring.

Our sea going vessels are not sufficient. There is no way we could transmit large amounts of food and supplies across the lake. It limits our ability to grow and destroy as well. This should be our priority going forward. We also should not forget our obligation to the lizardfolk. There have been rumors that the forest to the west is haunted. While I do not believe the superstitions, I do believe that something lies there in. It deserves at the least a scouting party.

That'd actually be a good idea, allowing the honored dead to give counsel.

Maybe not giant tombs, maybe they just reside in their bones. Their advice is always useful, though not always relevant.

Future councils could sit at a table of sage advice. Generals could wear the skull-fashioned helm of the heroes of yesterday. And every green warrior would feel safer knowing he goes into battle with an expert in his hands.
