    Question time:
Do we know of the Khans approximate force strength?

Also, what does promoting a unit do?

No, the Gwiffons are out of move and it would take two turns or so with full more.

wait for wagons. See what we can do with their cargo. Then replace demon drivers with the cheap slashers and send it to the mine to pick up gems the sappers continue to dig.

Nope. Caster, Royal, Mount, Flyer, and Noble are not something a unit generally can be promoted to.

    They can be made:

-Knights: Triple unit cost upfront paid, triple upkeep

-Heavy: 2.5 Unit cost, double upkeep.

-Archer: Pay base unit cost, double upkeep.

Let me think if there's more...

The wagons pull into the gate, and the four bored looking Daemons join their comrades.

    Within are:

    -200 units of fine armor
    -200 fine shields
-100 mixed swords and other hand weapons
    -50 pikes and halberds
    -50 fine bows

    >>18101367

Archers ad rage, I guess, but what about the others, do they get more damage?

Like, lets say we promoted a bwisp to a knight?

Anyone can shoot a bow or use a ranged weapon in their own Hex, but they automatically get a massive penalty to any sort of accuracy without the Archer tag.

Knight boosts stats and allows the unit to ride a mount. Heavy prevents mounts from being ridden and is a bigger stat boost.

We could pop 100 stabbers, equip them with armor shields and swords, then have a bunch of awesome soldiers for cheap, it would only cost us 30 a turn for the lot of them.

Unless we should make 12 stacks consisting of a highlander and 7 stabbers, give the armor to them and have 4 sets left over for warlords. That would cost a bunch more and take more time.

Hmm The second one might be better in the long run.

Also, ruling regarding garrison forces: demoting a unit to garrison means it has zero move and reduces it's upkeep by one per turn. Being able to feed a unit from your larders halves it's income. Make of this what you will!!!!

The goal is a Highlander in every non archer stack with Pikers, and archers in rear. Wights around as ambushers. Demons all over the place.

We need to let the Khan come to us. Sending a force loses the swamp with is our biggest advantage. We should build an army yet, especially not one with supclass units just to have an army. We need the mining barbarian city to pay for our army, so that should be priority 1 if we are to survive Khan's onslaught.

Farms are limited by size, but combined can feed your entire force currently with quite a bit of surplus for your larder. Under siege you lose access to the five farms outside of your walls though, which is how besieging a place usually works.

Guys, I don't think you're looking at combat the right way. Erfworld combat is geometric: he who wins is he who stacks on the most bonuses to his units.

Look at our pikers and slashers: in stacks of eight the difference is thirteen to eleven in terms of combat rating. That isn't much of a difference comparatively.

You lack the move to really get going toward the city, but your slashers and the wagons take off for a few hexes distance until the wagons run out of move... and lack swamp-capable abilities.

They suck as scouts (hello bwisps!), they are bad for combat (even slashers are more cost-effective), their movement is worse than one of the flying units we can pay for, and we have a damned foolamancer for stealth ops and a lookamancer for spying!

Just forget about them already, pretend they don't exist until after we are well underway, and then we can see if they have a use en-mass.

You end the turn on this high note!

Morning comes, and you have the first turn, seemingly indicating no nearby units. You try out the mushroom and cwoc soup this morning, and discover that it is delicious.

Sometime during the walk down to the dungeons the Hobgobwin turned while the Daemons worked on him. However, Hobgobwins only have the reproductive function whenever they are a natural ally: forcibly shifting them to your side does not grant you a natural ally in the form of a new side split from the old one, only a new unit under your own side.

Sapper miners on their way back on foot it would seem, and may arrive this turn.

No, it's not to pop "something"

It's to pop a necessary defense. We are wide open right now. and we are about to try and recruit another city with less than 100 units on our side, in a game world where battle takes place on a scale with 1000's of units.

What kind of suicide is that?

Yes, they are level one cheep-ass throw away units. The purpose of said units to to use them before you are established. Lets just look at the facts.

    Fact: We aren't established
    Fact: We are severely understaffed.
Fact: They will garrison for free
Fact: That mine gives us a few grand every few turns. This will more than make up the down payment
Fact: We have weapons and armor and shields for them to make them really cost-effective.
Fact: we can reallocate any gear we give them now, to some better unit later.
Fact: There is a bloodthirsty Khan with 200+ units who is interested in what our swamp holds.

Damn right I am mad about this.

Smythe wordlessly points at a map of the nearby plains he has made (and one I could theoretically make in pain later). Five capital cities are marked, and something like twelve non-capital cities. Smythe says that their present color (they are drawn in livery to match their owners) changed this morning. Three cities, including one Side's capital have shifted to green and orange. The Khan is working fast.

Smythe indicates that more units are repositioning themselves for similar efforts against two more sides by their next turn, and that half the alliance should be done in another Turn. He is uncertain as to who will be their next target after the coalition is finished.

He draws something else on the map: a few blips flying away in the direction of the south. He says that this is the location of the fallen side's heir.

Allies are nice when they're in positions of strength, but with these we'd just be getting, at best, high level Barbarians. We'd need to have enough strength on our capital site at all times to make sure we could could kill any Barbarian ally that decided to try an assassination to take over our capital site for themselves.

OR we will need that other city site. The one that's populated by lost units. We could house our barbarians there relatively safely and keep the capital site's location a secret.

You can get a more complete and detailed report, yes: Smythe takes notes.

You know for certain though that:
-Most of the enemy is mounted
-The enemy is using casters, but cannot spawn them
-The enemy isn't carrying siege around, but makes runs at cities with units made by casters and disposable infantry popped nearby, as well as any siege they can assemble.

    >>18104239

    As you will then.

You end turn, and the lot of you sit around in mid-air on your mounts, uncertain of what to make of one another. A few of the more playful Skirmishers break ranks and fiddle with the other camp. Speaking of fiddling, one of the Daemons does play a jaunty tune for a bit, and the refugees seem to appreciate the music.

Start camouflage the city and mine, Obviously it won't help against close inspection but it should help verses air scouts. Any thing we can do to keep from being discovered

Also start building a seriose of hidden houses so we would be about to move units about in secrecy. My idea is that the hidden houses should be a type of fortification that can give the units manning the concealment ability.
These forts will allow us to launch raids with out leading the khans fouces back to our capitol.

A roll based on how well your Warlord dances and how well your troops can dance. It then provides a bonus based on what you rolled and those parameters.

Traps function however you build them to function, they are pretty varied.

Stacking warlords is mostly pointless: you get the bonus of whoever is leading the stack and nothing else. Having a chief warlord in the hex but not in the stack another warlord is leading means the stack gets a bonus from the leader and 50% of the chief's bonus from the chief being in the hex.

Trench warfare would be more useful if we were fighting a more even war, as it is our best bet is to fouce of guerilla and asymmetric war, attacking supply lines and such. Also it would be wonderful if we could get some solid allies to crush the softened Khan hobs.

A ton. Combat happens in real-time within the hex, meaning that tactics apply.

Pikers are best when in close formation and when the enemy is within reach of their long polearms but cannot reach them. Slashers do well up close and personal, especially in situations where no one can really get into formation: if a group of slashers closes with a group of pikers before they can form up they will kill quite handily. Stabbers are balanced between those two. Wight-Foots are very much capable of repeated hit and run attacks without needing 56+ move in order to avoid retaliation, they hit their target, disengage, and restack for stealth somewhere vaguely hidden until their turn comes up again, with a good chance of taking out whatever they hit.

    Recap coming later.

    >>18104663

Depends on their gear, but against enemies in other hexes they are limited to a "volley" because otherwise they could just shoot and shoot on their own turns until nothing was standing and there wouldn't be anything you could do about it. Within their own Hex they can shoot an infinite number of times, but can be reached by the enemy in melee range.
    >> The Titan's Mandate !6CrZ543I4I 02/26/12(Sun)05:03 No.18104771
    >>18104721

Building hidden remote outposts is viable, but they would only provide bonuses against anything attacking you there. The enemy seems to lack swamp capable units, so they would mostly give you something to hide in from enemy air. Magical effects on them are unlikely though, and this doesn't really hide your city.

I was thinking about how Guerrula wars were fought....
    Punji sticks, holes, etc etc.

Also: For the roads in, at about a quarter of the way in, we trap the roads, with about an eight of the total distance being trapped two hexes deep along the edges of the roads.

Why? They hit the trap hex, and deciede to go around, and run into more traps. They are forced to backtrack until they have to come in a certain distance, and by putting traps two or more hexes deep, we make them believe there are far more traps. Four hexes deep would be preferable, but maybe not possible within the time alloted.
